You may have noticed that The Other 99 is currently 50% off. And that is for a reason we'd like to explain. We've been in Early Access now for about 6 months. We had a rough start but since then we've been updating the game continuously.
Having that said: We noticed a lot of traffic on our page and the wishlist for the game is growing and growing. Since we are currently looking for fresh feedback from new players we wanted to make the decision to give the game a try a bit easier.
This is a one time chance. The Other 99 won't be discounted at that level all too soon anymore. So feel free to give it a try now. And feel free to spam us with fresh feedback!

Hello all!
We know its not been long since our last patch, but we've managed to squeeze a couple more bits in as well as tackle some of the bugs that came from V0.5.
BUGS!
We've fixed some issues with the rock throwing not interacting properly with enemies as well as some crashes associatted with the inventory system. As usual full information on the things we've fixed is in the full patch notes.
In terms of new things for the game!
We have a new loading screen to override the blank screen that occured whilst you loaded. There is a bunch of new audio cues when you consume items in your inventory along with item descriptions in your inventory to tell you what your stuff does! The map has seen an update to deal with the new start area and the changes that we have made to the world for V0.5.
We have made some changes to the combat tutorial sections so that it should be more informative and less frustrating.
As usual we are on the forums everyday, so send us your feedback and bug reports so that we can continue to make The Other 99 a better game!
Cheers,
The Burning Arrow Team

V0.5 has arrived!
Hello All!
We have been working very hard on v0.5 implementing new gameplay features, new community feedback and a whole new facial animation system! So without further ado, here is the patch overview!
Facial animation and body paint
We have a brand new facial animation system that is driven by the actions that the AIs perform. AIs will be angry when you fight them, scared when they cower from you and will wince with pain when they are hit.
AIs will also camouflage themselves with mud around the island to make themselves less conspicuous. AIs that have been brutalised and attacked will carry the scars with them. Both of these will add variety to the enemies you encounter as you make your way through the island.
New start area
We have reworked the start area completely to make it a more engaging experience for new and returning players. The new area will walk players through some of the core gameplay features and introduce the people on the island in a much clearer way.
Alongside this we have an option to allow players who have completed the tutorial to skip it on subsequent play throughs so that you don't have to play through the start area every time you die!
Key remapping
This has been a requested feature from quite a few players on the forums and is something we are happy to bring to you in v0.5! We hope with the new flexibility, that players will be able to set up and customise their key bindings in line with their own personal preferences.
Collectables and new quest systems
These ancient Celtic warriors pendants are hidden in the darkened corners of the island. Players will have to use their exploration skills to collect all of these trinkets and unlock one of the new achievements.
We have also introduced a new quest system that will allow players to track the objectives of the notes they collect in a clearer way.
Other stuff
Another thing that we've improved is the load times by starting pre-load processes on the main menu to help reduce those pesky load times.
Elsewhere we've made a few changes to the survival system, including the ability to drink from water sources on the island, although watch out for contaminated water sources that'll do more harm than good. We've also done more with balancing the systems to make the "hide in the corner" option a little more viable and the fight for survival a little more interesting.
For more information on v0.5 check out the patch notes and we look forward to seeing the feedback and comments on the new patch!
Thanks for all the support we've received from the community to date as we push through early access.
V0.4 has landed! In this patch, we have made some significant gameplay changes on top of the usual bug hunting, and we’ve included some optimisations to improve the games performance.
So without further ado, here is our patch overview for V0.4.
Survival Gameplay Overhaul
We have spent a lot of time creating a better and more engaging survival system. You will no longer regenerate health as fast, which increases the threat of open combat against a better equipped enemy (jumping off cliffs might not be as good a tactic to get away anymore either). Regeneration of health is also completely separated from stamina now.
To balance slower health regeneration, we have introduced health-replenishing items. These can be found in the form of large medkits, medium medkits, and pills. Medkits are a valuable resource in your fight for survival on the island.
Hunger and thirst have also been altered - food and water items now have a longer effect after you consume them. This ties in with some subtle changes we have made to the way hunger and thirst affect your health and stamina.
We're sure these changes will make for a difficult, but more enjoyable survival experience.
Major Combat Improvements
We’ve spent a lot of time focusing on combat, and we’ve made a whole host of improvements for this patch. The AI you find will be much better at fighting, due to improvements in decision making and attack frequency. Combat will be much harder, and you have to utilise a wider range of mechanics, such as blocking and positioning, to give yourself an edge.
Better 'interrupt' actions performed by the AI will cause them to push you and dodge back to avoid your attacks - it is a lot harder to chain up your attacks and stun lock an enemy.
Weapons on the island have been balanced, with their stamina cost, durability, and damage values all changed to better reflect their individual effectiveness. Heavier weapons will cost more stamina to swing, lighter weapons will cost less etc.
Performance improvements
We always try and provide performance improvements with every patch. In V0.4 we’ve really tried to hone in on the issues that were causing the game to run poorly or stutter on certain systems. We’ve optimised our dynamic navigation system which allows AI to navigate the island. This has reduced the strain on the CPU significantly, meaning older processors should see big gains.
Elsewhere, we have made some changes to the dynamic lighting and light effects. These changes improve the games visuals in both the day and night phases, affording us more shadows in the world without a performance hit, especially around campfires.
Trading Cards
V0.4 introduces Steam trading cards to The Other 99! You can now collect 8 trading cards, 5 profile backgrounds, 7 emoticons, 5 level badges, and an awesome foil badge.
The 8 cards are based on locations around the island, each with its own character and secrets. We're sure you'll enjoy collecting the set!
Other Stuff worth mentioning
The AI have seen improvements in their behaviour, with survivors wandering the island with lit torches, or seeking out campfires to look for victims. This adds to the atmosphere and danger of the game, as AIs traverse the island with more purpose.
That’s all from us for the time being; full patch notes are available below. As always, we'll be on the forums to answer any questions and listen to any feedback.
V0.3 is here! We have all be very busy at Burning Arrow since our last patch; We’ve been squashing bugs, making improvements and implementing new features that we think you will enjoy.
Thanks to these community members for their suggestions now in V0.3: Rainer
So without further ado here is our patch overview for V0.3.
New Story Areas
Along with a new story line, the world has seen a number of improvements. The village, caves by the beach and earlier areas have all had upgrades to make them more interesting to explore and discover.
The new storyline follows a survivor trying to understand why they're there and his efforts to make contact with other survivors in order to stay alive. You must follow the clues he has left in order to find out all he knows. This storyline will continue when we expand out the island to new areas and will add to the overarching narrative.
New AI Behaviours
With each patch we really want to improve the AI and how it interacts with you. With this latest update we've included cowardly AIs that will cower and flee when you approach them.
Combat Improvements
Along with adding some better behaviours to how the AIs respond to combat, we've also balanced up and iterated the players movement capabilities. This means that the AIs now strafe and try to come at you from different angles and try to maintain a distance. With the improvements to the animation systems behind the scenes, the blending of animation states in the AI is now a lot better. AI will now run to keep up with you during combat, blending through animation states to give a smoother experience. On top of this, the player movement speed has been tweaked to give the combat a more grounded feeling. We hope this patch has laid the ground work for some awesome combat stuff we're planning to do in the future.
Benchmarking
We have decided to open up some of our benchmarking dev tools and make them accessible by anyone that wants to use them. You can find them located in the options menu in the main menu. They are primarily for testing out our new scalability and graphics settings that should be a little more extensive than the settings we've had in the past. This is to help people not playing on higher end PCs.
Other Stuff
We've also got lots of smaller things that we think will improve the experience of the game in general, like updated clothing sets, as well as some stuff requested by the community. These include the option to not delete your save file on death and the ability to disable the HUD to take screenshots. We're thinking we might roll these into a different game mode going forward but for the time being, they're accessible to all players.
That’s all from us for the time being, full patch notes are available below. As always, we'll be on the forums to answer any questions and listen to any feedback.
We've been working hard on our next patch, and wanted to show off a little bit of what we've been up to.
Firstly, we've been improving some old areas of the island with new content. The biggest of these changes is in the island caves and village.
Elsewhere, we have made some improvements to the scalability settings within the graphics menu, started overhauling our animation system, and have added a number of general bug fixes and improvements.
Keep an eye out for this update coming soon, but in the meantime check out these new screenshots from V0.3!

Update V0.2
Hey Everyone,
We’ve just released update V0.2 of The Other 99!
In this latest update we have created a brand new story line which will give you a glimpse into the island’s past.
Improvements to the combat system, such as AI enemies strafing, and interrupting incoming attacks with a push, will add to the challenge of trying to survive.
We have also implemented a beta version of the save system which stays true to our permadeath approach to the game – when you die, your save file gets deleted. While this system is still in beta, we cannot guarantee save files will always work across patches, but we will work to minimise any incompatibility.
AI Characters now have a uniform that better suits the games story and lore. Additionally, the island has newly refurbished zones, brand new environment models, texture updates and performance optimisations.
In response to feedback from content creators, we have implemented an audio menu which allows you to adjust various aspects of in game audio to suite your needs.
We can’t wait to continue working with you all to improve The Other 99. As always please post your feedback and bug reports in the forums and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks,
The Burning Arrow Team
