The Silent Kingdom

Steam Next Fest and The Silent Kingdom

Hello, everyone!

October's Steam Next Fest has arrived, and The Silent Kingdom is participating!

If you just discovered the game, you can play the demo which contains the whole prologue of the story, and leave a review in the demo page:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1832190/The_Silent_Kingdom_Demo/

The Silent Kingdom will be released as Early Access when chapter 1 is 100% done. After that, it'll be updated with chapter 2 and chapter 3 (final).

I estimate that Chapter 1 has two months of production left. After that, I'll have to take care of the English translation, as the game is originally written in European Spanish. The last step before release will be a closed beta for Kickstarter backers, whose feedback and bug reports will help the game come out in its best state.

I'm a single person working on this project, but I'm working on this everyday and doing my best.

Thank you for your interest and patience, and I hope you enjoy Steam Next Fest!

Small update based on feedback

Hello, everyone!

Since the 1.0 demo was released, I've been taking note of feedback. I'm happy that the demo has been so well received, and I've been working quickly on the changes that many players were asking for. I want it to be as good as possible for Next Fest!

Over the course of this week, the demo has received a couple of updates:

  • The rate of enemy encounters in the forest has been decreased.
  • The tutorial on the double attack mechanics of the princess is more explicit and clearer now.
  • Characters now show a new pose when blocking normal attacks. The sound is also more noticeable, making it easier to tell when you've successfully blocked.
  • The battle start effect has been changed to a more eye-catching broken glass effect.
  • Guards give twice as much experience as before.
  • Added a plugin to prevent screen freezing with >60Hz monitors.

Thank you all for testing the demo and for your feedback! Your comments give me a lot of encouragement to keep working, and also help me to improve the game.

1.0 demo has arrived!

Hello everyone!

I'm happy to announce that...the 1.0 demo is now a reality!

This version contains the new battle system, its own original OST (composed by Mikel Dale), improved graphics and dialogues, and other details like autosaving. I've put a lot of effort into making it as polished as possible.

I'm so glad that I can finally share this definitive version of what The Silent Kingdom will be. The old demo was outdated a long time ago, but I couldn't replace it because the battle system wasn't ready until now, and that was killing me inside a little bit hahaha.

If you play it, I'd love to hear your impressions!

IMPORTANT: Since 1.0 uses a different translation plugin, players who downloaded the alpha demo back in the day will get an Uncaught TypeError message when they open the game now.

To solve it, go to the folder where the game is installed. Then go into www>save, and delete all the files inside the save folder. That should solve the issue!

Demo 1.0 & New Trailer

Important announcement!

In preparation for October's Steam Next Fest, The Silent Kingdom's 1.0 demo will be released on September 27. This demo will be representative of the final game and will feature improved graphics and dialogue, as well as the new battle system.

The alpha demo and the old trailer have been removed from Steam because they were outdated. Now I'd like to show you the new trailer for version 1.0!

As for the development of chapter 1... Since the previous post, I've completed the battle animations for the armoured princess and the knight - now all the characters in the party have their own animation!

I also drew all the enemies, all the battle backgrounds, and programmed the knight's skills. I had to work on the trailer and some promotional videos, and I had time to complete 2 CGs.

Main tasks that I must still complete:

  • Draw the 11 remaining CGs.
  • Program the skills of the remaining enemies.

After that, the main things left will be the English translation and the music. As those tasks don't depend on me, I'll use the waiting time to add two secondary quests and polish some details. But one step at a time! For now, I'll focus on finishing the 11 CGs, which is a lot of work.

Thank you very much for your patience and see you soon!

The Silent Kingdom - New Battle System

Hello, everyone!

I'm in the final months of production on chapter 1. As I said in the previous post, I've been working on the prologue's battle system, and I can finally show a preview!

In the alpha demo I published back in the day, the combat system was very simple. It was like that because I spent 5 months working on that demo with hardly any rest, not knowing if anyone would be interested in the game or if it was going to be funded. I couldn't spend more time and energy on it, so I left the vanilla RPG Maker combat system and focused on the story, which was what mattered.

When the project was funded, I decided that the game deserved an eye-catching combat system, even though the story will remain the main element.

In this video you can see part of a fight in more detail.

The skills have been designed by my friend Chivs. I'm in charge of the rest. I've been trying my best to make the character animations look as good as possible, although I'm not an animator and it's been a bit difficult. I'm learning a lot of things while making this game hahaha.

Now that the prologue has finally been completed with the new combat system, the 1.0 demo is ready for October's Steam Next Fest, when it will be released.

Until then, I'm still working on the rest of chapter 1. I'm currently animating the party characters that appear after the prologue, namely the Knight and the Princess protagonist in full armour (in the prologue she only fights in her white dress). I also have to draw the new enemies you will encounter throughout the chapter, and program the new skills.

All this said, back to work I go. Thank you for your interest and see you soon!

The Silent Kingdom - Development News (July)

Hello, everyone!

This is Lucky Cat, the solo dev behind The Silent Kingdom. I'd like to talk about the current state of the game.

As you well know, my plan is to release an Early Access which will contain chapter 1, and will be updated with each chapter (3 in total). I've been working on chapter 1 all this time.

100% completed tasks:
-Script.
-Programming.
-Mapping.
-Chibi characters graphics / animations.
-Character portraits and avatars for dialogue.

Most of the needed work is done!

To be completed tasks:
-New battle system.
-Finish the remaining event CG illustrations.
-English translation.
-Add two secondary quests.

As for right now, I'm working on the battle system in order to release the 1.0 demo as soon as possible. Remember that the new system will be completely different and will show characters' animations!

Let's see some new features in 1.0.

Autosave system. You'll know the game is autosaving when you see a rose icon at the bottom right of the screen.

When entering some maps, a label will be briefly displayed in the top left corner.

EXTRA
During the story of chapter 1, the princess will have to attend a royal ball and take part in palace intrigues. Here are the designs of the outfits that she and her two companions will be wearing.

As you can see, chapter 1 is very close to completion. But I still have a few months of development left, so I have to keep working hard. If you want to follow the news more closely, you can visit my twitter account.

Thank you all for your patience and support!

The Silent Kingdom - Development News

Hello, everyone, and happy 2024!

Since The Silent Kingdom's Kickstarter campaign, I've been working on it day by day. Being a game made by a single person and having so much text and graphics, its development is not as fast as games made by a team, but it's still been steady,

I would like to comment on what's new, as well as the current status of the project.

First of all, the prologue (seen in the demo available on Steam) has been redone and improved, with noticeable graphical changes and some new dialogues and details. Here are some comparison screenshots.

Forest:

Gardens:

New text boxes. Blue choices offer extra dialogue without advancing the main conversation.

The new version of the demo will not be published until later, when the game's release is close.

My plan is to release the game on Steam as Early Access, in a version that will contain both the prologue and Chapter 1, and that will be updated as the development of each chapter is finished, being 3 chapters in total.

Chapter 1 is 70% complete!

The battle system will be reworked, and this time it will show character animations.

In addition, the game now has its own soundtrack, composed by Mikel Dale. You can find a demo of the main theme on his twitter.

Many thanks to all of you who have added The Silent Kingdom to your wishlist! I will continue to work diligently to get Chapter 1 out as soon as possible. If you'd like to follow news about the development more closely, don't hesitate to visit the official twitter account.

Important News.

Hello, everyone!

Many things have happened since the last time I made a post on Steam.

The Silent Kingdom's Kickstarter campaign went live and got fuinded in 9 hours and 14 minutes! After that, several stretch goals have been reached, like one that will turn the first person combat system into third person with battle sprites!

This means that The Silent Kingdom is going to become a full game, and will be released on Steam as an Early Access by the end of this year or the beginning of the next.

The Kickstarter campaign is still running. Grab the exclusive rewards and free DLC for backers now, before it's too late!

In preparation for making the full game, the demo has received a graphical update and some tweaks:

  • Changes in the backgrounds, which now look less pixelated and more fitting with the character sprites.

  • Corrected the distance between party members. No longer shall the princess feel the magician's breathing on her neck!

  • Added a function to hide the text box with the mouse's right click. Now you can enjoy the art whenever you'd like!

A first beta for backers is coming to Steam around June/July. You can find more information in the Kickstarter page.

As always, I want to thank everyone who is supporting this project. It's thanks to you that this game will become a reality ^^
