Small update (v1.032)

There is now 1 item reroll after using metro, so player can now get some upgrades instantly. Still working on that bigger update, but since most important hint message wasn't showing up properly i had to make quick update.

-Added 1 reroll for shop after using metro
-Fixed "Did you know that melee attacks can deflect bullets?" not being fully displayed in speech bubble
-Reduced time for first picture of ending animation

Price permanently reduced!

Price of The Struggle of Combat is permanently reduced from $7.99 > $4.99

There had been price differential between Itch.io version and Steam version. This felt unfair for Steam users, so i have decided to reduce price of The Struggle of Combat. Also lot of other similar games have been selling for cheaper, so i thought this might be more fair price. Price might go up for some currencies, since recommended prices have also changed.


New update is still in progress, but i have done most of the work for new zones, so it shouldn't take too long. Currently working on new mini bosses.




Achievement update (v1.031)

I felt like there was huge gap between "mid tier" achievements and later achievements, so i added achievements for beating game with each character and completing arenas. If you have already completed these challenges, you should get these achievements just by walking out of prison area.


-16 new achievements added
-Some of the old achievement icons reworked
-Added new ability icon for super slash (Second part of grappling hook)
-Item drops that spawn inside side walls now move torwards center (Items would end up floating up the walls so players couldnt reach them)

*Hotfix:
-Fixed incorrect treasure chest description
-Fixed prison shop not having guaranteed weapon during loops
-Fixed mutants sometimes getting stuck jumping

Character update (v1.030)

Some of the character bonuses felt bit insignificant, so i decided to give small buff for most of them. This should make each character feel more unique. Also small changes for some of the abilities. Initially i only meant to fix few bugs, but i didn't feel like adding update without any gameplay changes.

Character changes:
-Increased police's coffee drop chance from 25% to 35%
-Increased sheriff's melee range from +15% to +20%
-Reduced miners's bomb cooldown from 15s to 13s
-Increased hunter's maximum focus damage from +15% to +20%
-Increased pirate's special weapon drop chance from +10% to +20% (Bosses no longer double chances)
-Increased ninja's movement speed from +10% to +15%
-Grappling hook's cooldown now starts after using super slash (Super slash now has to be used within 5 seconds)
-Increased soldier's bonus health from +20 to +25
-Reduced cyborg's barrier cooldown from 15s to 13s
-Barrier cooldown now starts after barrier effect ends
-Increased barrier duration from 3s to 4s (It already said 4 seconds in description, but that was mistake)

Other changes & bug fixes:
-Weapons are now more likely to appear in shops during loops (Often you would only get ammo packs. Now there is guaranteed to be at least 1 weapon)
-Added impact effect when deflecting melee attacks
-Fixed bombs sometimes glitching through walls
-Fixed potential freeze with bombs
-Fixed ninja's super slash not deflecting ninja bosses super slash
-Fixed some enemies getting stuck when far away from player
-Jumping enemies will no longer interrupt their jump attack when player gets far away
-Mechas will no longer attempt to jump over high walls unless player is far away
-Fixed rockman boss & vampyrusman not providing light when burning
-Fixed completion times missing 0 in front of seconds and minutes when they were below 10
-Fixed laser not having clash sound when hitting enemy barrier

Small update (v1.029)



Very shocking small update! Finally fixed some things that had been bothering me for a while.
Shocking laser and flamethrower felt bit underwhelming compared to other explosive weapons. Now their special effects are also applied with shocking effect.


-Shocking laser and ufo launcher now applies 50% of damage amplification to enemies hit by shocking effect
-Shocking flamethrower not applies full burn duration to enemies hit by shocking effect
-Fixed laser's damage amplification being applied to railgun
-Increased soldier boss grenade damage from 10 to 15
-All explosion effects now appear in front of enemies
-Added light to impact effect
-Added light to special weapons and cursed keys
-"Cursed key have been dropped!" is no longer displayed in speech bubble when curse mod is active
-Fixed shocking flamethrower briefly displayed as explosive flamethrower when exiting level
-Fixed 4th loop being briefly displayed as 5th when entering teleporter
-Some other small fixes

Small update (v1.028)

Turns out that mouse lock was causing problems with some accessibility softwares, so i added option to disable mouse lock.

-Added mouse lock option to graphics options
-Fixed Ninja's piercing slash extending further than intended (Super ability)

Small update (v1.027)

Figured that i should start using proper version numbers. (Counting all updates since releasing on itch.io)
After doing some further testing with gamepad, i found out that i often ended up accidentally turning while trying to aim up or down, so i slightly increased axis value required for turning.

-adjusted aiming with gamepad
-fixed "Press 'A' to reroll" text not being visible with some languages
-fixed possible freeze with rats (was really rare)
-fixed cyborg's shield amount

Controller Update

Controller support is finally here!



There is 2 aim modes available. Free aim mode that works similiar to mouse and locked mode where crosshair spins around player at fixed distance. Aim speed can be changed from control options to suit you preference. Selecting shop items will work sligly differently to keyboard controls. Instead of hovering with mouse, description will open soon as you stand under it.

Game wasn't originally planned for gamepad controls, so there are some things that might not work perfectly. Some things will require using free aim mode, such as selecting difficulty switches or opening weapon description.

-Added Keyboard & Gamepad tabs to control options
-Fixed incorrect information in bullet upgrade descriptions
-Fixed watergun having more ammo than intended in first clip
-Fixed "Language" text in language options not being visible with some languages selected


Note: If controller is not responding, you may have to disable controller from Steam's Big Picture Mode
Big Picture Mode > Controller Settings > disable configuration support for you controller

Localisation Update 3

Translations for Japanese, Korean & Chinese are now available! It might take slighty longer to load game since it has to create new fonts. There might be some graphical imperfections with some of line breaks, since there wasnt enough spaces in Japanese and Chinese texts. Should be fine for most part, but i might have missed few translations.

-Added translations for Japanese, Korean & Chinese (Simplified & Traditional)
-Reverted font changes from previous update (Now they will only apply for Russian translations)

Localisation Update 2

Translations for Portuguese, German, Italian & Russian are now available! There is going to be some minor graphical imperfections, since some of the translations didn't fit properly into menus.

-Added translation for Portuguese, German, Italian & Russian
-Changed some font styles
-Fixed there being extra selection in options menu (when using arrow keys)
-Fixed some translation mistakes


If anyone is interested improving translations, locale file is here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Struggle of Combat\locale
If you modify locale file, just remember to save it as CSV-file and use UTF-8 formatting or some of the letters might not work. Also remember to close locale file before opening the game.
