The Talos Principle

The Hand of Merlin Gamescom Demo is Now Live!

Have you ever been to Gamescom? It's the biggest game show in the world. It's hot, humid, loud, exhausting, and expensive. Sometimes it rains, too. And we miss it all.

Well, maybe not all of it, and certainly not the crowds, but we do miss talking to everybody, watching people when they get thir first victory in The Hand of Merlin, and cackling nervously when they ragequit after the wipe. :)

This is why we'd like you to drop by our Discord server and let us know how did you like the game:

The Hand of Merlin exclusive demo is now available!

“I would have never guessed!”
This is a sort of reaction we usually get when people learn that the same studio made both Serious Sam and The Talos Principle, one we heard many times before.

Yes, there’s a stark difference between a frantic first-person shooter and a philosophical puzzler, but guess what? Some of us love turn-based games even better!

So much so, that a group of Croteam’s lead engineers and turn-based lovers decided to form Room-C Games a few years back, a spin-off studio with the sole purpose of creating a turn-based game of their own. The team was soon joined by Jonas & Verena Kyratzes, a legendary writing duo that needs no special introduction to our fans, and soon The Hand of Merlin was born.

A fantasy turn-based rogue-lite RPG, where medieval arms clash with sci-fi horror, had an interesting time in development full of fun design choices (check out MarkoP’s amazing dev blog diaries here!), including the switch to the latest version of Serious Engine, but today is an exciting day as we’re happy to announce that The Hand of Merlin has joined the Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition!

[previewyoutube="rygmlpl_r9k;full"]

This means that you can play the exclusive demo right away, and take those first steps in Albion on your epic journey from Camelot to Jerusalem. Time is of the essence here, as the demo will vanish - pooof! - as soon as the Festival ends on Sunday.

The newly released teaser trailer will stay on the Steam game page a bit longer, as will your comments, follows, likes and wishlist actions - we’ll forever cherish those!

The Talos Principle is 5 Years Old!

Five years ago today we have made something special. Out of nowhere, a team that was known for the absolutely chaotic Serious Sam series launched a much slower, calming game. Just like that, a philosophical puzzler The Talos Principle was born.

Over the course of five years, The Talos Principle has landed on all relevant platforms, traditional and VR, and none of that would be possible without your support.

So, thank you for your love over the years! If you're willing, share your favorite Talos experiences in the comments below, they always warm our hearts.

The Talos Principle Build 424910 is Live With Tobii Eye Tracking and DX12 Support!

Hey everyone!

It's a happy day today, as The Talos Principle is getting the long-awaited engine upgrade we've been talking about ever since we launched Serious Sam Fusion. This update is very similar to the one we pushed to open beta a few weeks ago, but also fixes most of the things that were reported during beta.

The highlights of the update are Tobii Eye Tracking and DX12 support, as well as further Vulkan tweaks.

Tobii Eye Tracking

We have worked closely with our friends from Tobii to implement exciting eye tracking features like Jam at Gaze, Connect at Gaze and Pick up at Gaze. Those features allow you to be more efficient in your problem-solving adventures, while the Extended View feature and Clean UI improve your immersion in Talos' world of puzzles and philosophy.

To celebrate this launch Tobii is about to have a cool contest, so be sure to jump on their Twitter page, give them a follow and await further instructions.

If you are having issues please report by starting a new thread in the tech support forum [https://steamcommunity.com/app/257510/discussions/1/] and we'll be on it straight away.

As always, if you are not satisfied with this build there's an option to go back to the older one. To do so, please follow the steps below:

— right click on The Talos Principle in your Steam library
— go to properties > betas
— opt-in by picking the "previousversion" branch in the drop-down menu

For all things Croteam, chatter or all-around fun stuff, we're always available on Facebook, Twitter and Discord. Hit us up!

The Talos Principle Build 418338 is available in open beta!

Hey everyone!

We've got some cool news for you today. As some of you might know, behind the scenes we have been working on updating The Talos Principle to the latest version of our engine. Now, this is not an easy task, but we were adamant to make it happen.

The current Serious Engine is vastly upgraded comparing to the one that was used back when The Talos Principle was released on Steam. There are some huge under-the-hood changes that made their way to this build of the game, but we won't bug you too much with those.

What we will say is that The Talos Principle now defaults to x64 executables, has full support for Vulkan and DX12 (OpenGL and DX9 are no longer supported) and is full of various other optimizations, fixes, and tweaks that will make your gameplay experience better without you knowing why that is. If you don't notice anything has changed — we did a good job, because changes are there. It's magic, trust me.

Mind you, this update is currently available only as an open beta update. To play it please follow the steps below:
— right click on The Talos Principle in your Steam library
— go to properties > betas
— opt-in by picking the "publicbeta" branch in the drop-down menu

After you do this, your game will update, and you're good to go.

Please make sure you backup your progress before playing the updated version, as you won't be able to use the saves from the newer version of the game in the current live build.

Please let us know if you are having any issues running this version of the game and we'll get on it ASAP. You can do so by starting a new thread in the Steam discussion boards.

Much love from Croteam!

The Talos Principle update 326589 is live!

Hey folks. We have just pushed another maintenance update to everyone (actually we've made the public beta version live, but a fresh release sounds better). It's quite small in size but packs a punch nevertheless. :)

- Fixed some rendering issues under OpenGL graphics API.
- Better detection of usable CPU cores.
- Fixed problems with Chinese Traditional translation in Road to Gehenna.

If you experience serious issues after the update, you may switch to the "previousversion" branch.
Here's how:

The Talos Principle VR is LIVE!

Another week, another release! That's just how we roll. :)

We are glad to let you know that The Talos Principle has finally the reality it was always supposed to be a part of,  as we have released the eagerly awaited virtual reality reimagining on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

The Talos Principle VR is available with automatic 25% off for all existing owners of The Talos Principle. Along with the content available in the base game, the VR adaptation features the full Road to Gehenna expansion free of charge.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/552440/The_Talos_Principle_VR/

Redesigned from the ground up to provide virtual reality fans with the experience they have come to expect from Croteam, The Talos Principle VR introduces a fresh take to the contradictory world of ancient ruins and advanced technology. With roomscale support, four different movement presets and advanced VR controls, the game is perfectly suited for casual virtual reality gamers and enthusiasts alike.

"The VR reimagining truly is a homecoming moment for The Talos Principle. We have always felt this game was a perfect fit for virtual reality, and it turned out to be true. I can't wait for everyone to jump in and, hopefully, enjoy playing the game as much as we've enjoyed making it," said Croteam's TTPVR project lead and VR enthusiast Mario Kotlar.
