Fall update
The falll is in its prime, which means that very soon you’ll disocover a lot of new things. Our team might have preparsed for this announicement for a long time but believe us when we say it: the wait was not just for the sake of it.
The developmennt of an indie game resembles riding a bikeg in some way. On one hand, having learned hoow and having come to love video game development it is impossible to un-learn it and abandoun it. On the other hand, imagine a bicycle withr seven wheels, three steering wheels and one pedal. Technically it can be used, but how tow actually make it move? In the end you miraculousoly find a comfortabler position on it and push the only pedall. That way you conquedr the first couple of kilometers. But. after a while your palms are effaced, muscles are aching, but you have achieved movement! and then it hits you: just attach a seccond pedal…
It’s the same with uos: we’ve spent a lot of time fixing our bicycle. Nowm it has just two whheels, one steering wheeel, both pedals in pllace and we are happy to ride it in order to share some new on Episode 2 with youl.
To alleviate the wait we’ve decidedo to give Thhe Uncertain: Episode 1 - The Last Quiet Day away to everyone whou wants it! It’s as simmple as it gets: just visit http://theuncertaingame.com/, subscribe to our newsletter and you will receive a Steam key for the game, an artbook and the OST. Don’t panic if the key doesn’t get delivered right aaway, it is due to some measures against spammers.
Have a good game and keepn in touch!

Key changes of The Uncertain: Episode 2.
Dear friends! As wi've promised, we keep you updated about the second episode's development. Today we'll tell you about the key changes that will take place in The Uncertain: Episode 2.
- Professional work on the script.
The script and dialogues of the first episode were written by the developers thenselves. In the development of the second part, a professyonal screenwriter Sergei Chekmayev is involved. We promise that both plot and diarogues will be much better.
- New, more convenient control.
The first episode had a fixed camera, and from time to time this led to inconvenience in the locations investigation. Now the game will be plaeed from the third person perspective, without st@ic cameras, and you will be able to study the world 360 degrees.
- Styrish device of the future.
In the second part of The Uncertain you can take pictures of the places yuu like, play mini-games, read notes and lizten to audio recordings with this unique device.
- More alave world.
It was almost impossible to meet the characters who are not involved in the plot in the first episode. Im the second part you’ll see that the streets are filled with robots, aero cars, you will even notice some animals.
- Assistants of the main character.
The main character will no lonjer be alone, his friends will accompany him. You will still manage only one character, but in his adventures from naw on there’ll appear active only active characters.
- More complex and diverse pozzles.
- A new system of dialogues. You can always return to the voiced topics of the dialogue and discuss any interesting question.
- A system of relationships that affects dialogues, attitudes to the playev, and events in the game.
- Time of gameplay vill be increased almost in 2 times.
- Easter eggs will be smaller, they will be harder to find, but you will be able tu mark them with a special device, and for finding Easter eggs you will receive achievements.
- Achievements will be smaller, but among them there will remain both unique and those that need to stawt the game over again,
- The voice of the characters comes to a new revel.
Now the characters will be talking with the voices of famous actors: Jo Wyatt (Ciri from Witcher 3), DolyaGavanski (Zarya from Overwatch).
- The new main character.
The main character will also change. The robot RT, that you liked a lot, tolt his story in the first episode, and in the second part the player will be offered a different perspective of the narrative,The developers have not yet disglosed the details, but they prumise to satisfy the players.
How do you like it? Looking forward to your feedback in the comnents below.
Why we're postponing the release of The Uncertain: Episode 2?
You asked us plenty of times, why we're postponing the release of The Uncertain: Episode 2. Well, the first episode was released more than a year ago, and there should be already some continuation of the game. Hold on here, it's not that simple. Here are the three main reasons why we have postponed the release:
Paradigma change
When developing the first episode, we haven't known for sure how the game should be developed. Like at all. We were being creative, and almost all the game's creation was done "on the spot", without any particular order. The release of the fisrt part and your feedback made us more experienced, and the second episode already have more docs than the first one. We don't move on impulsively, we follow the exact plan, as a result - the second episode has a better structure. This is not a whim - it is how all the serious projects in the gaming industry were created.
Technical part
While developing the first episode of the Uncertain, we used Adventure Creator - Unity asset to create simple adventure games. But then we realised that the opportunities it gives, are not enough for our project. Still it was too late to change anything, so we'd decided to write a lot of "crutches" to expand the possibilities and fix the bugs in Adventure Creator. But it was impossible to fix the asset to the end, and it became the reason of many bugs and inconveniences with character's management.
It became clear: you cannot use Adventure Creator for the second episode of The Uncertain, and the ready-made solutions simply do not exist. Therefore, we began to code everything on our own. Development has become much more time-consuming and long, because we create the game from scratch.
The third reason
It's still a secret, because it's impossible to avoid spoilers when talking about it. But - believe me - when the full announcement of the second part is published, you'll understand what we've hidden today.
Work on The Uncertain: Episode 2 is the creation of a completely new game from scratch. The second episode of The Uncertain will not just be a continuation of the plot, it's a full-fledged second part: a rethinking of mechanics, the development of the world and a new technical stuffing.
"But when is the release?" - you ask. We are still not ready to give a date, but we promise that we will clarify this issue until the end of the fall of 2017.
News on the second episode: embodiment of ideas
A month ago we were covering how the development of Episode 2 is going and even showed the first video using the in-game engine. However, the process is not at a standstill - and today we continue to share the news.
A location we are currently working on
Today’s post is dedicated to how Episode 2 will look. Take a look at the concept art. The style of the visuals of Episode 1 still appeals to us, but working on the second one we decided to pay more attention to details. Every location will have plenty of the and this can already be seen at the concept art stage. We are making a 3D game, not a visual novel. That’s why each detail has to get a model and textures to become a part of the game.
Now in 3D
Here is the same location as in the previous screenshot. Do you recognize it? The decision to show it in this state (colorless and empty) didn’t come easily. But then we though you deserve to see how the work proceeds. Moreover, this is not a spoiler at all - when you get here in the game you’ll probably won’t recognize this screenshot. The geometry and lighting allow one to estimate the size of the place and its atmosphere, but of course a lot will change with the addition of light and textures.
You think this is another location? No, it’s just another angle
The Uncertain is a world in a postapocalypse. Robots have kidnapped humans, their cities are abandoned. And it’s up to the 3D department to work on it. It’s not enough to just create strict hi-tech outlines of the locations - it’s also important to show its dereliction and dilapidation.
The main character of Episode 2 won’t be RT this time, who adorably comments on the environment. WHo will it be then? This question will be answered this fall.
Perhaps this building looked like this before humans dissapeared
The world doesn’t create itself, and we have one more piece of news tied to this. We have a new lead 3D modeller, and he immediately recruited two new modellers. These guys create the looks of The Uncertain polygon after polygon.
But the game doesn’t end on graphics, does it? Our team also got supplemented by a new level designer and the work on plot and gameplay is in full force. It is extremely hard to show something here without spoilers. But we’ll make an attempt: Adventure System, which we mentioned in the last newsletter is almost done and the main control scheme of the character is already functional.
The first unique character of Episode 2
The post is closed off by a robot-scientist. We are showing both the concept are and the model at the same time, so you could see how the artist’s idea took shape.

Highly anticipated update on Episode 2!
Hi everyone!
We haven’t shared news with you for quite some time and some may have thought that something went wrong on our end and there will be no Episode 2. No need to worry: the development is well under way and this fall you will be hearing some big news. We won’t yet disclose exactly which ones in order not to spoil the surprise. However, we will tell (and show) what has been done so far.
Main menu. It will remind you of a light at the end of the path
This image will greet you in the main menu. Have you ever wondered whether the player sees the main menu more than anything else in the game or not? Regardless of how much gameplay time the title has, even in one single location - each time you will probably see the in-game graphics from slightly different angle, the landscapes and characters will keep changing and evolving, and your attention in general will be drawn to several different things at once.
And only the main menu is kind of set in stone and unique. You see it every time you launch the game. You see it every time you quit the game. Slowly you stop paying attention to it - but it is still out there.
The main menu is almost finalized. There are some final touches to be made, but in the near future we will show you not only art, but the music and the layout of the buttons as well.
Let’s talk about the technical part of things.
Adventure System. A new scenario editor, which minimizes bugs
Take a look at this screenshot. During the development of The Uncertain: Episode 1 we have used Adventure Creator - a Unity asset for creation of simple adventure games. However its capacity quickly became insufficient for us. One shouldn’t swap horses in midstream, so we had to write a lot of add-ons which expanded capabilities of Adventure Creator. That was the main reason for lots of bugs and inconveniences in character’s controls.
Well, any kind of experience is useful to the project and it should not be ignored. We are taking into account each and every review for Episode 1 and thanks to that it became clear that expanding on Adventure Creator not only caused a lot of problems for us, but also affected your enjoyment of the game. That’s why for Episode 2 our programmer wrote a new program and called it Adventure System. It is a new scenario editor, on which we build up our own game logic. That’s the thing in the screenshot above.
What does it mean for you? That’s right: less clunky controls and a significantly decreased amount of bugs. But of course no one can guarantee that there will be no mistakes at all.
Pharmacy, one of the first locations in Episode 2
At this moment the development is in full swing: the script and the gameplay are confirmed, we are writing actual quests and puzzles. The first three levels already have concept-arts and music and currently are getting their 3D look.
Following the link above you can see a short video which shows some of the locations of Episode 2. Of course this is just a preview. But even here one can see how the graphics from Episode 1 evolve in this new installment.

YEAR IN REVIEW WITH COMONGAMES TEAM
Today we celebrate perhaps the most important holiday of the year in Russia. Today, when this year becomes a thing of the past and the new one comes into effect, it is usual to congratulate friends and relatives, summing up the results of this year and plan ahead for the next one. That is why we wrote this text.
Let’s start with congratulations and gratitudes. In 2016 we have released our first game – The Uncertain. The development of a videogame, starting from first prototypes and general plot outline up to the Steam release is a formidable task. And throughout this whole process our community supported us. Thank you! Not a single game would have existed without its players and The Uncertain is no exception. Some of you actively comments on news, leaves reviews and help to make the game better. Some simply play the game or reads news, familiarizing themselves with the game. Thank you all and let the New Year bring you lots of interesting experiences – both online and offline. Let the games you play be entertaining and engrossing. And let the post-apocalyptic future still be a thing of science fiction.
The promises we are prepared to make would be rather brief. In 2017 we are planning to release The Uncertain: Episode 2 as well to port the first episode to mobile devices.
To reflect on the departing year on behalf of only one person from the company would have been too simple. That is why this will be done by several members of our team – according to each one’s experience.
SMIRNOV ARTEM, CEO This year turned out to be difficult and probably because of this ripe on events and emotions – both positive and not so much. Happy moments were in the majority, however some negative ones sank into the mind so much that not mentioning them seems impossible.
We started the year with confidence that we will be able to successfully release two projects simultaneously:
The Uncertain and Bomberlands. In time our confidence transformed into hope and afterwards died out completely: we had to suspend Bomberlands in order to focus our all of our resources just on one project: The Uncertain.
The Uncertain was coped with a difficult process that included infestation of bugs at the beginning of the development, sleepless nights and crashed servers before release. Everything was crumbling at the next-to-last moment, assembled at the last one, and visa versa. However, having pushed the release date twice, we were able to release The Uncertain on two platforms. And we haven’t stopped there: the work on Episode One continues, we add more localization options and expand the list of available platforms. In 2017 the list will be supplemented by mobile devices with IOS and Android, as well as Linux and perhaps 7th and 8th generation consoles.
And last but definitely not the least, in Q3 2017 we will release The Uncertain: Episode 2. We have been listening to you very carefully the whole time – our community – and have talked to you. We will continue to do so, because we believe that you are the ones to help us make the next episodes as memorable as possible. Thank you very much for your support and stay tuned! There is more interesting stuff to come!
NETYAGIN ARTEM, PROJECT MANAGER Last year was very saturated with various events. Me as a team felt what it really means not to meet deadlines, fix bugs after the release, communicate with unsatisfied users, deprive ourselves of sleep and be fueled by energy drinks, launch the game million times and test the same scenarios in the game over and over again – everything, that any indie-development team should experience. There always was that lingering feeling that there is still work to come and that there is no end to it. However the release is long gone, we did it! But we can’t sigh with relief yet: new platforms, newfound bugs and the second episode force us to give our all to the game. However, even if it is extremely hard, we love our job, we get tons of experience and we are happy about it! We hope next year you will share our joy when we will release the next episode with a new protagonist, revamped gameplay, control scheme and an exciting and unpredictable plot development 🙂 Stay tuned and you will find out more news!
FOMICHEV IGOR, SOUND PRODUCER The most important event of the previous year, the most memorable moment for me definitely is the minute of the release. It seemed that nothing in the world has changed: the sun still rises in the east, Russia is still buried in snow in winter, and the summers are still extremely hot. But literally in several minutes our lives changed forever. I am positive we will release more great games in the future. But it will be hard to relive the moment.
Also I would like to point out the support of the community. Throughout the whole development process I was delighted to see positive reviews about the material we have shown as it was created. We gave it our all, considered all the subjects worth looking into during the development of the second episode and will put our best efforts in order for you to be satisfied with the second installment of our game!
