Welcome to our first devlog that we announced on our Discord! (join if you haven't done it yet - https://discord.gg/HgNqCfY). Every week we will provide you with information on Thief Simulator VR during the Early Access phase.
The latest updates introduced new interactions to the game. This is just a foretaste of what we are going to introduce to the game. If something earlier in the game was not interactive - now maybe it is already. Almost all fridges are opening (we're still working on it!) and the player can feel like a chef. Of course... if you can cook money... We should definitely take some recipes from our friends from Cooking Simulator.
In the game settings, there is a new option for curtains. We are still marking it as experimental, but you can already try it out. Thanks to it, the curtains in the game have their own physics, which improves immersion (at least we hope so. As I said - we are experimenting). Soon they will be significantly improved.
In the GameBoom VR office, we often say sentences that are hardly heard in other dev studios. Even those involved in creating flat games. Sentence of the week in GameBoom VR:
"Guys, since when can you lift a toilet seat?!"
Fun fact: Did you know that there is an achievement for breaking 10 toilets?
See you next week! GameBoom VR devs
Patch v 1.1.2 is here!
Hello there,
another week, another update. This time a smaller one. We fixed a lot of bugs and added a partial support for Vive Cosmos (more details in full changelog). We plan to add official (full) support for Cosmos in next patch. If you have performance issue in Richies St. this will be fixed in next patch - we got it covered.
Happy playing!
Change log (changes from 1.1.1): - Fix anti-burglar blinds at house 107 (only late hour turned them on, now loud sound turn them on too like in other houses) - Fix crowbar attached to the belt on start when game profile is deleted and recreated - Removed auto-save after an item is attached to the belt - Fix falling under ground during tutorial near second window (house 111) - Added information at first game launch that playing on Very Low or Low graphics settings is recommended if there is less than 8 GB RAM or less than 4 GB VRAM on pc (this shows only if you have less than 8 GB RAM or 4 GB VRAM) - Fix duplicating crowbar when attaching it to the belt and putting it to the backpack at the same time - Fix policeman with zero alarm stars doesn’t stop chasing a player - Vive Cosmos part support* (probably the game can be played on Vive Cosmos but it’s not fully tested and it may not work as expected; a few things are known that needs to be fixed like there is no vibrations when player put an item to the backpack, fingers don’t move on items) - Fixed removing auto-save when an item is attached to a quickslot (before it was still saving sometimes, now it’s fully removed)
*full support for Vive Cosmos will come with the next patch
STEAM AWARDS NOMINATION in VR category
Thief Simulator VR was released in EA this year so we are qualified for the new Steam Awards format! You can support us in any category, but we think the most reasonable is VR. Especially that we have put a lot of work into making all VR interactions in the game as natural and fun as possible.
Is Thief Simulator VR your favourite VR game this year? Let's nominate it!
New patch (v 1.1.1) is finally here!
Hello there,
with a little delay, but we are finally ready to push new patch to public. In short: we fixed all urgent bugs, improved performance (~10% on GPU, on CPU - we removed big spikes during robbering and police chase) and made the game more forgiving in some aspects (it's easier to put smaller items in backpack and it's easier to carry the TV). Also we change quality settings, we admit that we overdid them - if you played above Very Low and want to keep the same quality - move one step higher e.g. if you played on Medium, set quality settings to High (more details in full change log). As promised, we continue our work on improving game in all aspects according to your feedback (which is great and very helpful!). We are also moving to the new game engine which should be a big step in terms of performance! Thanks for your great attitude and happy playing!
Here is the full change log:
Patch v1.1.1 (changes from v1.0.2):
Changes and new things: - Better performance on GPU - Quality Settings changed: Very low - the same Low - half texture size, the rest stays the same Medium - old Low High - old Medium Very High - Old High - GPS map in a car - People notice that you're using a flashlight on them - You can open some stoves (but not all currently!) - You can set fire on stoves (but not on all currently!) - You can set fire on barbecues - Interactable curtains (it's experimental, you can set it on in options) - Grass performance (less grass diversity) - Easier carrying old tv - Finger on drill moves when you use it - Tutorial: 'Hide your crowbar' changed to 'Put back your crowbar' - Player is now teleported to the 'start' position after falling down through the map
Fixed: - Walking and running is sometimes slower/faster - Getting stuck near bath - Items fall through backpack when trying to collect it - A drill doesn't show up when disassembling the second car - Gearbox and interceptor couldn't be taken off when disassembling a pickup - Anti-burglar blinds for windows don't lock the window (only when they fall down because of the late hour) - Cut window sets locked if the police were called when we grab the window - Manget hand showing when the player keeps grabbing after the item was taken from his hand - Fix NPC stacks (especially policeman) - Cars have different wheels during disassembling (than on neighborhoods) - Direction movement controller option, the controller that is responsible for walking now sets the direction of movement (previously controller responsible for rotation was doing this) - Radio colliders in our house - Gearstick moves too much - Car box's text can be seen when you open inventory - Windows at houses 113 and 108 - Disappearing candlestick in house 106 - Wrong scale of 'Jacket' - Furniture colliders - Doors' anchor points for lockpicks in houses 207 and 208 - Vines near house 208
New patch available on beta branch. Coming to main branch Monday evening.
Hi there,
we want give you heads up and tell what currently we are working on. There is a new patch available on beta branch so you can try it over the weekend. It will be available (after additional testing on our side) on Monday evening. We fixed all urgent bugs, improved performance (~10% on GPU, on CPU - we removed big spikes during robbering and police chase) and make the game more forgiving in some aspects (it's easier to put smaller items in backpack and it's easier to carry the TV). Expect full change log on Monday together with the patch going to main branch.
We also want to thank you again for warm welcome and your understanding. We continue working on all aspects of the game. We started the migration to the newest engine and we expect that it should help with performance a lot.
We don't have Vive Cosmos support yet. But, we will add it in coming weeks!
Hello there,
since there have been few users who did buy the game and couldn't play it because they have Vive Cosmos. I would like to make it clear - as it's stated on our Steam page - we support Valve Index (full finger tracking), HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and WMR. We will add support for Vive Cosmos as soon as it arrives in our office - probably in two weeks time.
Thanks for all kind words, playing our games and constant support - we keep working hard on the game!
Two first patches are here! Thanks for warm welcome.
To all sneaky thieves!
We are really happy you welcomed us here on Steam so friendly. Thanks for all reviews and feedback, we appreciate it! Big thanks to all streamers, youtubers, and generally all content creators - you're the best (just take a look at videos at the end of this news)!
Meanwhile, we are patching the game quietly but intensively to meet all your expectations as fast as possible. This week continues to be very productive for us. Later on, we'll go back to adding new content and features to the game. Today we release second patch, fixed issues you’ve reported (thanks!). In newest patch we improved performance while driving, on some rigs the performance boost should be huge. We see your feedback and continue working on all aspects of the game including performance!
We've got the information you're all waiting for! Your numerous messages show us that we are working on something special and we have great motivation to provide the best VR game possible. Thief Simulator VR has been created for almost the entire last year, and we put all our hearts into this project. We are looking forward to seeing our game in your hands. However, we all understand how business works - a wrong release date could cause other games to steal (pun intended) our visibility in digital stores. The current Steam Halloween Sale would take away our visibility, and we want our game to reach as many players as possible, which will convert into the resources needed for its further development (and Prison Simulator VR). For this reason, we decided with our publisher that Thief Simulator VR will appear on the market on November 12, 2019. Don't worry about changing the release date - our beta-testers can confirm that the title is ready for Early Access, can be completed and it's really fun. We will use the extra time to develop the game further. Mark the date on the calendar and add the game to your wishlist! IT’S HAPPENING! We would also like to take this opportunity to thank beta-testers. Your feedback was extremely needed. You made the game work really well! But! If you still want to test the game - you can keep doing it. We have recently released a new update, and there will be another one before the launch day! The latest update will add new languages to the game, so we will have fourteen language versions! Remember – your feedback is always welcome.
Thank you for your patience GameBoom VR Team
TL;DR: Thief Simulator VR - 12.11.2019
Thief Simulator VR Announcement Trailer
Hello there!
The official trailer is here! Enjoy!
[previewyoutube="grul1fC-6jE;full"] Thief Simulator VR is a game developed by the Polish studio GameBoom VR. Our goal was to port the entire Thief Simulator game to virtual reality headsets. The result of the work is a big VR game, which is characterized by:
- fully-immersive realistic mechanics in VR. Feel how it is to lock pick doors, smash everything in a house, steal cars, jump through windows and hide in a trash - follow a plot and pay off a debt to a mysterious family or choose by yourself which house you will rob next in this sandbox world - disassembly stolen cars, hack phones and tablets in your hideout; and sell all goods in a pawn shop or by online - buy new thief tools and gadgets that will allow you to rob richer people - drive cars with fully implemented VR-adapted driving model and play with a car interior
We plan to release the game in late October. We are still working on several patches and implementing solutions suggested on our Discord server. (https://discord.gg/q2sfNxE 😄 Join us!)
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them on Steam forum or discord!
We have recently changed the entire car driving model. That's why we decided that this time we will show you how to drive around the city and avoid the police. Before you ask - yes, there is a damage model in the game. The car bumpers bend from collisions and the lamps break.
You will also see one of the ways to hide from the police. The player can hide under the bed to avoid police officers. You can also hide in wardrobes or... dumpsters. Well... your choice.
EDIT: Beta registration closed.
Also, I am pleased to announce that we will be doing beta testing pretty soon (probably next week).
If you are interested in participating, please send us e-mail titled ‘Thief Simulator VR Beta Steam’ to beta@gameboomvr.com. We will send you some kind of NDA next week (no filming allowed yet :( ) and then build/steam key.
