OVERVIEW



In this update, you'll know the power system. Now the player outside mines needs to control carefully the electricity to keep it on. The Generator, an entity has been added with new resources for the player to manage.

The Power System - A system that controls the overall lights in the game. The player outside the caves needs to manage the power generator and his resources to keep the lights on. Learn how to operate the Generator is essential.

We've improved on clarity making the player easily identifies what he can interact with.

More environmental elements outside the caves give some life to the areas outside the mines and prepare the setting for the next challenge.

NEXT UPDATES



The Idea for the next Update is to implement two more "enemies" to the game the concept it's gonna be the same, they should be environmental.

KNOWN ISSUES



(Often)There's a bug when the host tries to leave a match and the game crashes.

(Often)The items got stuck on the screen even when the inventory is closed, for now, all you need to do to remove the item from your screen is reopen the inventory. and close it again.

(Rare)The interactions system stops to work and the player can't interact with anything.

We working to correct these issues and we'll release small updates with fixes.

MAJOR UPDATE

OVERVIEW



We’ve spent a long time thinking about the possibilities for this big update. The goal was to reach a challenging and fun result, that demands both players to cooperate in different environments. We wanted significant changes focused on cooperation. To do this we need to review some systems to achieve it, so we’ve decided to postpone the last year’s update. At this point, we believe the players can have an idea about how the final version of This Side should be. The game itself is harder, but with more clear objectives, the player still needs to explore and cooperation is more needed than ever before. We think that one major change is that The Mine isn’t procedurally generated anymore. But, despite this, we are working to make the game design more roguelike and offer a more surprising experience.

REMOVED




We’ve decided to return to one of the core concepts of This Side making the game a truly cooperative experience, to do this we needed to completely remove the single-player mode from the game.


The water control gate system was completely removed.


REWORKED




We’ve decided that the mines were not to be procedurally generated anymore for a better game design. We still working on ways to increase the roguelike experience on its gameplay design, but the map itself is now static.


The Mine Collapsing System now works like an independent entity that hunts the player throughout the mine. The idea is to give more life to the caves.


The Flood System is more intense and present, the outside player needs to control the flood level to help the inside player to survive.

The Lightning System it’s similar to the Mine Collapsing System, an independent entity that hunts the outside player.


NEXT UPDATES




Now that the main structures are ready and consistent. We aim to implement more obstacles and interactions between both players.


We also intend to make more visual and lore implementation, to make the whole environment more immersive and believable.

General:

We are working hard to update This Side as soon as possible. We had several unforeseen events as well as all due to Covid-19, but we did not stop producing despite having delayed our already tight schedule. Anyway, we will not stop updating you and the game. First of all, we would like to thank everyone for their good criticism. This helps us a lot to think about what we can improve in the game. Next, we will inform you about several things that we will quote below, but we would like to emphasize that we are always available to everyone. Whether through social networks or the steam community, so whenever you need to report something, criticize or even praise we are always attentive and willing to listen and respond to everyone! To make it even easier we created a server on discord. Discord Server.
Our goal is to have one more way to facilitate communication and create an environment for all players to use at will and find other players on This Side to play together and share this experience with us whenever they want.

About the next update:

We have an update scheduled for October. Our last update was in last October, and will be once again . We've been working since the last update. There were a lot of tests, things that were added and removed but in the end we want to make everyone aware that the game will be updated soon and the game has already changed a lot from what it was and will change more! Change on the environment and mechanics, and will change more based on everyone's feedback. We are also organizing ourselves to make more small updates while working in time-consuming updates like this. We always count on all good criticism to improve the game! We read everything you comment on very carefully. So don't worry about not being heard.

Update schedule:

We plan to make more frequent updates. We still don't know if it will be every three months or a month, but we need and want to give efficient feedback on what players go through to improve the game and we want you to see this improvement quickly in the updates.

Next steps:

More updates and communication. We have several communication channels, social networks and the steam community and we hope you use what you prefer to let us know what you think.

Future change to remove single player option:

This side was a game designed for the cooperative mode and we see less and less sense in having the single player mode. We would like to have your feedback on this as well if possible.

Taphophobia 1.0 Major

Hello everybody!

My name is Pedro Henrique and I'm one of the developers currently working on This Side Project.We're happy to announce one of ours main features is out for test. The cave collapsing system it's on his 0.1 version but it's kind of complete. With that said we tied our start and end game boundaries. whats means that we aiming to improve gameplay between this two points.

We recommend that you play with a friend.




Tips to Help!



Change the flashlight input from F to T. For game design purposes.
You can Swap between the character on single player mode by pressing TAB.

Collapsing System 1.0
Now the player inside the cave need to stay in movement in order to preventing dying for caving collapsing.

Gate System 1.0
No matter how fast you run if you find your self trapped by a huge gate, the player outside the cave need to find a way o open this gate and release his friend.


Known Issues



Connection takes too long.
We know that this is bad and we working really hard to make the connection as fast as possible but due the amount of data, the game can takes a lot of time to complete the dungeon on client, please be patience. One of our primary goal it's to solving this issue.

The Ood Gate
By The time of this update out final Gate Version mesh was corrupted but we're solving it. And you will have this final version asap.

The Lightning inside the cave
Another Stuff we are working on currently.

Small spaces between cave meshes.
Sorry my mistake! As we working to improve the amount of tiles in some place I got lost on this meshes. But I'm currently reworking them.

Future



Collapsing 2.0
We aiming to make the cave more aggressive. To do that we're try to figure out ways to increase the environmental hazard throughout gameplay.

More Control
We developing mechanics the makes both character, inside and outside cave, useful. So we will improve the amount of stuff that the outside player need to do to help his friend.


Well, this it's everything I think of for now. We hope we can count with the community to make a good and frightening game.

Between a major update and another we decided to make minor updates. While we working on more complex features to enhance gameplay.


IMPROVEMENTS


We've changed the rocks's and caves's textures for a more detailed and natural aspect.

On the next small update we're planning to add more environmental storytelling elements.
