Roadmap to our Launch!

Greetings, dear Crew 👽

We are checking our engines for the big leap ahead. During the last months we’ve achieved several milestones to celebrate, but the important jump ahead in terms of development and effort is already here, in our ship!

We cannot address this more, we are tremendously grateful for all the amazing feedback you humans have poured over us during this process. As an independent development studio, we are still learning step by step. You all know the saying: A little step for a Sainen, A big one for the rest of the Universe!

And you know, there’s no possible step without a clear map for the missions ahead. And thus, here we have our new and polished Roadmap into Launching Those Who Came. RSVP your dates! We estimate Hermaion will be taking off revving its engines this Summer 2022!

As you can see, some new areas like Bineok’s Laboratory and The Seed map are being implemented in the game. Along with the possibility to gather your existing friends to a party and play the PVP mode we talked about in our previous guides, there’s a new approach on how the whole planet changes while you are restoring its life, as well as in our Art Direction.

We are just so glad we are approaching fearlessly to our destination, and we hope you can join us!

Remember, you can always join our Discord community to have a peak on the latest announcements!

Solaru’s Inhabitants: The Torek

Hello again fellow explorers, here we are with another chapter of your training as a Sainen pioneer amidst the thrilling lands of Solarus. In today’s masterclass we are going to discuss the nature of Solarus' fellow inhabitants, the Torek.

The Torek are descendants of what humans call “Lizards”, a common creature in the Universe. In this case though, they have evolved until they became a civilization type I in Kardashev’s Scale. They are a bit more advanced than our human neighbors, but a lot less than us, the Sainen. We belong to type III!

All Torek look very similar to each other, and while there is not much difference between them, they have completely different attitudes towards us! Let’s see:

Friendly Torek

You may bump into them from time to time. They sport a friendly attitude because deep down they know you come in peace and want to restore life in their home planet. As a consequence, they will try to bring you aid in the form of goods or information. Kolra, an important character among the Torek, or Commander Toan, in charge of Torek’s operations, fall into this category and will accompany you in your journey.

Vendors

They are inherently good and will exchange money or resources with you. In future versions of Those Who Came, they will be key for your missions since they have valuable information about the new planet you are exploring. You will be able to obtain new suits, technology or important items in your missions thanks to their help.

The Guardians of Solarus

These Torek have seen the worst in their homeland while being in touch with the corruption ravaging planet Solarus. As a result, they have suffered a lot and won’t hesitate attacking you when they consider you’ve approached an object, structure or important element they are guarding. They look at Sainen as another potential threat that could destroy them.

This group of Toreks are broad and some of them will throw different attacks towards you. Even though their attacks are usually defensive or indirect and will just sabotage your purpose, here are some hints to get your crew prepared:

  • Area Guarding
The Torek will create a round area in front of them. If they catch you inside this area your Suit Shield will get damaged and your life will be compromised! Please, check your life bar placed in the lower left corner of your screen if you are caught in this situation.

  • Dart Guarding
Some Torek have a bracelet equipped with darts that provoke our movements to be half time slower than originally, it would seem you had consumed one of those human beverages drunk at parties on Earth. We know you would not! Just avoid this situation, explorer!

  • Trap Guarding
Just beside the Dart Guardians, there are some Torek that like to persecute and catch you in their arms. They don’t want to kill you, they just try to avoid you entering places “you shouldn’t be in” by propelling you outside that zone once they’ve put their broad hands all over.

As you can see, Torek come in all forms and sizes, but their key to know what’s their deal is actually paying attention to their actions!

Which of these Torek guarding techniques will be more challenging to you? Tell us in the comment section, or join our Discord community today.

Dressed to Survive!

Greetings, fellow explorers!
You may have noticed; you are exploring Solarus with your crew and suddenly one of your teammates collapses after walking on boiling lava, or doesn't mind their step and falls into a rocky pit, or is smashed under the arms of an angry Torek. Either way, your poor colleague may be a bit low on life. Do not worry. There is a small piece of technology that will revive the most smashed of Sainen Explorers. And that piece is so easy to put on it’s even called E.C.A Suit.

But what does E.C.A stand for?

These letters mean: Experimental Connectivity Attire, an experimental suit especially designed to use your surroundings for your own benefit, easing survival amidst the inclement outdoors of Solarus. Its technology allows harvesting wild plants not available in normal conditions.

After the Energy of these plants is processed, the E.C.A Suit will be ready for you to use the
"Pulse Emitter", a skill bound to the suit that will transfer Vital Energy to nearby teammates. Just remember to click on your “R” button to rescue your crew. And right in the spot where they fell firsthand, they will be up and running lively in no time!

Where can you get the E.C.A Suit?

On Surface Expeditions watch out for a mission especially led to investigate a branch of exotic alien plants. Your purpose is to gather all information possible about the flora and bring the results of this investigation to Dr. Welsen. The almighty doctor will then talk to you and craft the E.C.A Suit for you.

Now you are ready to easen up your missions at Solarus! Remember to craft all the goods you need, or purchase them in our Colonial Market, serving your sensitive Sainen’s skin from Solarus and beyond.

Said that, we can’t wait to see you to rescue all your crew! Are you more into suits with Afterlife powers or you’d rather prefer the Technician Suit? Tell us in the comment section, or join our Discord community today.

Today is a big day for Those Who Came. We are proud to announce our biggest update to date, a work that comes with several fixed issues and the introduction of a New Tutorial System to guide you through your first steps as a Sainen, among other juicy perks.

Thanks to this much needed guidance, you will be learning to choose between Energies and know how to use them with the Shapers way faster and easier than in our previous update. Do not forget that the suit you wear is your battery and the source of your abilities. The Shapers will enable you to leverage your energy for maximum effectiveness.

Dressed to Hack!

Hell-oh, fellow explorers!

Have you noticed how fast February is approaching its end? We hope you are well rested and gathering all your energy for diving into our next news. Some weeks ago in this post(link) we told you about the marvelous perks of having a well crafted wardrobe in Those Who Came. Now it is time to introduce you to one of the most important suits early in the game and one that will amaze the techiest of friends among your crew: The Technician Suit.

Perks of dressing with the Technician Suit
This suit translates Torek’s technology into Sainen’s. In doing so, the technician is able to hack the Terminal and modify its original behaviour. This unlocks certain parts of the planet when completing missions gradually.

For example, a Sainen with Jointer Energy can empower one of the said Torek Terminals, but only if the Sainen is dressed up with the almighty Technician suit then they can interact with the Terminal itself.

Watch out! There are different types of Torek Technology Terminals that may be needed to interact with, like types of doors, structures or a particular type of generator. Play as you wish! And be technical about it ːsteamhappyː

Where can it be found?
First, it is crucial to be in “Solarus Expedition”. Once there, look for a Gearing Pod available on the surface. Put on your first dress: the Explorer Base Suit. Solarus doesn’t need to look at your undergarments. Complete the mission with your crew. Once you’ve survived, go to Dr. Welsen and request the Technician suit. He needs some materials that can be found on the surface. Do not worry, if you have looked for them well enough, he will be able to craft this shiny and new suit for you.

Once you have had this encounter with the Technician, you should be able to craft your hack-a-ton suit by yourself, now you know the way!

But hold your Energies! There is a third way to achieve the latest Alien fashion trend, and that is of course, purchasing it from the all time famous Colonial Market, serving your sensitive Sainen’s skin from Solarus and beyond.

Where should you use the Technician Suit?
Well, explorer, if this is a suit perfectly crafted for hacking Torek’s Technology then… whenever you see Torek’s devices! More specifically, you need this shiny piece of garment at the Torek Caves.

Said that, we can’t wait to see you hack away all things Torek. Are you more into suits with Mr Robot powers or you’d rather stay elegant and low key? Tell us in the comment section, or join our Discord community today.

The Stadium, a PvP Guide.

For some Sainen, overlapping expeditions may be hard. Not everything is about duty! And certainly, most of the crew need both a break from their missions and a training space built specifically to unravel their most recently acquired abilities.

This is why Sainen’s top pioneers have access to The Stadium, an area in which they can compete against each other by building two teams. The objective? Storing a huge amount of super valuable energy in your team’s battery before your competitors fill in theirs. The crew members that have stored the most energy win the match!

Of course, this comes with some fun challenges, like preventing your counterparts from gathering energy, preparing obstacles and overall sabotaging their objective in a hilarious manner, the Sainen style. Of course, all of this will happen quickly the more you have previously mastered your preferred abilities!

Here’s a brief guide on how to start your PvP match with your crew:

  • Both teams must be in the same region in order to play.
  • Teams can be set by couples against couples, 3vs3, and 4vs4.
  • Each member of your team and the opposite must have clicked on the PvP mode.

Remember! You can still receive damage from the threatening environment, but not directly from your counterparts, so do not get mistaken: these are not The Hunger Games! Or are they?

Said that, we can’t wait to see you play. Are you more into missions or this cute PvP mode? Tell us in the comment section, or join our Discord community today.

Happy gaming!

Suit-ed to save the planet!

Hi there!

We hope January is treating you well. As we detailed in our previous blog post, the Sainen are defined by their amazing ability to adapt to difficulties and continue to produce great technical and scientific innovations even under adverse circumstances. This is how they managed to become a type III civilization in the Kardashev scale. Today we're back on our dev blog to tell you a bit more about one of their greatest inventions: the Explorer Suit.

This piece of clothing protects the Sainen's body from getting hurt by extreme temperatures and contains several slots that improve its performance with special skills – try them in the game by pressing [R]! By using the modern technology of shapers, these suits also work as portable batteries where the Sainen explorers store energy for later use.

You’ll have to unlock them all to successfully complete the most complicated missions of Those Who Came. Regarding the enhancers already mentioned, you’ll unlock them through the online store located in your personal ship, or by crafting it from raw materials at your workshop.

There are four types of suits available in the game, and the Explorer Base Suit is the simplest of all them. Later, the Agile Explorer Suit will allow you to walk and run faster, your power reserve will increase with the Energy Explorer Suit, and the Heavy Explorer Suit will make you stronger. As we explained in our previous post, each one of these tools will focus you on a cooperation and survival strategy different from the others.

Said that, we can’t wait to discover which one is your favorite. Tell us in the comment section, or join our Discord community today.

See you in the next post!

The origin and binding of energies

A fundamental law of physics says that energy is never created out of nothing, nor can it be destroyed, it just takes on another form. It works not just on Earth, but for any phenomenon within our observable universe. Stars, nebulae, black holes... are pure energy. Even though we cannot perceive it with our current technology, those regions that seem empty and desolate seem to be full of what we call "dark matter". The passage of millennia only changes its distribution, but never the amount of existing energy.

Since the Sainen cannot use these energies on their own, they spent several decades perfecting a technology that allowed them to channel this powerful resource. Such a relevant invention as the shapers meant a great scientific breakthrough for the species, and also positioned the species as a type III civilization in the Kardashev scale. A good example of how they use energy are the elemental abilities they mastered for exploration and scouting missions, as the one they’re carrying out in Solarus to avoid a new cataclysm.
