As of January 1, 2024, we officially ended our cooperation with our current publisher, Polyslash S. A.
We are grateful for the year of cooperation and all the marketing support that Polyslash provided us.
Starting from January 1, Act Zero becomes not only a developer, but also a publisher of "We. The Refugees: Ticket to Europe". We take full responsibility for the continued operation of this title and will try to correct any mistakes made previously. We are sad to inform that the declared amount of 5% support for charitable purposes - with the exception of profits from the first two months after launch - was not realized due to not receiving payments that we have been owed. However, good sales results in December and the fact that we regained control over money transfers from Steam will allow us to cover outstanding amounts due to charity at the turn of January and February 2024, and we commit to doing so.
Today we are starting a New Year and with it a new beginning in our business.
All the best for all our players and followers in 2024! Thank you for all your support so far. And if you want to help us on our new path, we encourage you to consider purchasing our game, taking advantage of the -33% reduced price (only for a few more days!) and the fact that this time the money will 100% go to us :)
Wish us luck! It's going to be an exciting year!
Sincerely, Act Zero team
PS: As a part of our renewed efforts to keep "We. The Refugees" alive, we are currently working on yet another patch - you can expect it in very near future!
Games for Good Award for "We. The Refugees"!
Our first award ever!
Last weekend, the finals of the IndieX festival took place in Lisbon, Portugal, and we are happy to announce that... we won the "Games for Good" category!
This is a historic moment for us, because for the first time ever Act Zero wins in a competition. Due to budget and distance reasons, we were unable to take part in the awards ceremony itself, but our writer appeared at the online event. Below is a short video presenting the moment of awarding us the award.
We are damn excited and proud that our work is important to someone. Thanks, IndieX!
Chances are small, but it's still worth a try...
The Steam Nomination Awards starts today and the competition is massive and our game is a really a niche one, but... It still it's worth a try, isn't it?
If you think it is worth appreciating our efforts:
five years of research and struggle to create this game without any budget
3 years of actual gamedevelopment
giving a voice to actual refugees and volunteers with whom we consulted the script
writing a 300,000-word script with thousands of dialogue choices and branching narratives...
...then we would be extremely grateful if you voted for "We. The Refugees: Ticket to Europe" in the category:
Outstanding Story-Rich Games
We realize that there is a 99.99% chance that we will not win, but your vote would not be wasted as it would mean a lot for us. It would be a sign that you appreciate our working methods, in which we try to present complicated and important subjects in an attractive and in-depth way. We do not take shortcuts and do not follow trends, but we simply try to present good, engaging stories on difficult and important topics without manipulating facts and without suggesting top-down conclusions, because we believe in the intelligence of our players and their ability to form their own opinions...
Every vote will be a encouragement for us and a sign that we are heading in the right direction and that for someone what we do is important and significant.
Thank you in advance, Act Zero team
PS Oh, BTW, on the occasion of the Awards, we have also prepared another discount of up to -20% for you!

We realize that there is a 99.99% chance that we will not win. There are a lot of much more popular, and often better than ours, games on Steam.
But maybe you appreciate our working methods, in which we try to present complicated and important subjects in an attractive and in-depth way. We do not take shortcuts and do not follow trends, but we simply try to present good, engaging stories on difficult and important topics without manipulating facts and without suggesting top-down conclusions, because we believe in the intelligence of our players and their ability to form their own opinions...

- 30% discount of We. The Refugees: Ticket to Europe
This Sunday, a referendum will be held in Poland regarding, among other things, refugee issues. The level of public debate - presented in the media and by politicians - is currently reaching rock bottom, which is intensified by the ongoing election campaign in Poland. It is difficult for potential voters to find reliable and trustworthy information about refugees, and the way the questions in the referendum are formulated is shamefully biased.
We do not intend to persuade anyone to make this or that decision, but we encourage you to research the topic yourself and form your own opinion on it before making a referendum decision. To make this easier, we have decided to reduce the price of our game by 30%.
"We. The Refugees: Ticket to Europe" is an in-depth portrait of the refugee phenomenon, based on several years of research, including a visit to the Moria refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos, consultations with volunteers from the Ocalenie Foundation and the Hope Project, as well as several dozen books of non-fiction literature.
Act Zero at BLON Animation and Games Festival in Lithuania
This weekend, from Friday to Sunday (8-10 of September 2023), we will take part in the BLON Animation and Games Festival in Klaipeda, Lithuania.
The organizers of the event invited us to represent "We. The Refugees: Ticket to Europe", which is taking part in the "Aware Game Awards". Keep fingers crossed!
On site you will have the opportunity to meet our strong representation, because our Game Designer (Maciej Stańczyk) and Lead Writer (Jędrzej Napiecek) are going to be there :)
Thanks to some random Twitter interaction, we met Brandon from Gamersky, who publishes games in China. Brandon offered to cooperate in this market and localize the game to Chinese. Indie studios receive hundreds of such messages and usually nothing comes of it. Also, our game had an inappropriately long script, so we didn't really believe that someone would undertake the translation only a few months before launch. But Gamersky took up this challenge. And not only did they manage to translate 300,000 words in several weeks, but they also became our ambassador among Chinese-speaking players. And in a very effective way, because after 3 months from the release, Chinese players are our largest percentage on Steam!
And now, in addition, Brandon has gone to China's biggest gaming festival known as ChinaJoy, where you can find a booth with We. The Refugees! The inscrutable power of the internet continues to amaze us.
Thanks, Gamersky, for everything! And we encourage all Chinese players to check out We. The Refugees at ChinaJoy! The festival starts today (28.07.2023) and runs until Monday (31.07.2023).
Hotfix number 1.224.1161 (11794003)
Thanks to keen eye and persistence of an user on our Steam forums, it has been noticed that one of the hidden achievements was inaccessible during the playthrough.
The issue has been addressed, so feel free to race and be the first person to unlock it!
Update number 1.223.1160 (11692752)
Hi everyone!
We continue to polish and update We. The Refugees. This time, the new patch includes:
Fixed an issue with the "new act" screen sometimes not registering button presses
Fixed an issue where main menu buttons would still register input while overlaid with "Credits" and "Memories" screens
Fixed issue with the paragraph text sometimes not breaking properly in the Chinese language version
Fixed an issue with the decision feedback icons not lining up properly with the text in the Chinese language version
Several typographical errors fixed in Chinese and English versions
Thank you all for your continued interest in the project!
