Version 1.2 brings lower league divisions to season mode (English only, for now) as well as enhancements to stadiums, supporters and stands, to enhance the match experience.
New English league divisions added to season mode
Added English lower league divisions and new teams. This allows players to select a lower division side and work up the division to the top division and european competition. Teams that do not perform well, will be relegated to lower divisions. Other country divisions will be added in a future update too, just added English for now.
Randomly generated stadiums
Stadiums will be randomly generated for lower division teams. For example, a division 3 side may just have a couple of standing stands and fenced sides. Division 2 sides will have a combination of seating and standing stands. Added new seating graphics too. Division 1 teams will have all seater stadiums, with the top teams having corner sections too. Makes each game against new opponents a little more varied.
Enhanced supporters
Each supporter is an individual character and will respond to what is happening on the park. When the home team scores, the home supporters will jump and shout whereas the away supporters will stand idle with the occasional protest toward their team.
Added proper team colours to supporters too
Friendly matches in season mode
Before each league campaign, teams will play a few friendly matches against foreign opposition. Fun for lower league teams who won’t get the chance to play in the top european competition (well, not until you get them promoted and qualified for it)
Numerous bug fixes/ minor enhancements
Thrown shirt remaining on park
Squad button not hidden when no human teams selected for tournament
Add goalie colours to goalies during squad selection
Cup round not being created thus crashing the game at the end of the season
Player too much on park for throw in
Remove strange characters in play names e.g. ¼ and |
Update notes for v1.1
Edit competition names in editor
All competition names can be changed to something new. E.g. Euro Club Cup -> Euro Champs League.
New blue slide banner for goals, fouls etc during match
This replaces the black ticker that was a feature on previous versions. Looks somewhat sleeker IMO.
Ball trail effect
Ball trail added to the path of the ball. Makes swerves and passing plays stand out more.
More money for progression in Euro Club Cup in season mode
Teams will now be rewarded with more spending money the following season for progressing in the Euro Club Cup. This includes a win during the group stages, qualifying for the following season’s tournament, bigger prizes for each knockout stage.
Award prize money for winning domestic trophies
Get money for winning the domestic league or cup in season mode
Line up players in view for penalties
Players will celebrate their team scoring or saving a penalty and when declared the winning team will run to the corner flag to celebrate.
Create next season on separate thread and loading progress bar
Displays a progress bar for status whilst players are being retired, created etc. Required when there is a delay between seasons to show the game has crashed!
Create more transfer bids at the start of a new season
Similar to a real season where clubs do most of their bidding during the summer when the transfer window is open. Let clubs spend their updated transfer budget.
Fix bug where random offers for players not happening
Small code typo meant that clubs weren’t bidding for players that weren’t transfer listed
Fix bug where players don’t retire quick enough
Players don’t retire quickly enough so that they just keep on ageing. After 20+ seasons players are in their 50s/60s. Also, player values were not displaying correctly - showing negative values for much older players. This has been fixed.
Fix bugs in player selection screen
Cursor wasn’t showing correctly. Also, sometimes player swap wasn’t working (swapping wrong player)
Update notes for v1.0
A little late with this update as had to go back to the code to fix some issues identified during testing. But this is 1.0 as intended. Mainly team squad updates, performance enhancements, bug fixes and tidy ups.
Update club and national squad players
A massive job for me to do this first time, a simple process in future. This updates all club/ national teams to their current squads as players move around etc. Ideally I want to be able to update this twice a year, so required a build process in place to make this an easier task - I hope to update the game at the end of each transfer window. At these times, players will have changed clubs and I want the game to reflect this changes. I have built a process to allow me to fetch all the updated squads for every team, then generate database migrations that I can ship out with each update. This way, it will update the game without having to delete saved tournaments, edited player names etc.
Process match fixtures on a separate thread
This is to enhance performance and speed up the lag experienced between fixtures screen and displaying results. Will build upon this in future updates to enhance performance further.
Process migrations on a separate thread
The game stalls when database migrations are running, this just ensures that the game is still responsive and I can do things like showing a progress bar whilst updates are running.
Fix bug where transfer list doesn't fill up after a few seasons
For some reason, the transfer market wasn't filling up after a couple of seasons - especially with defenders and goalies! I've re-written this section to ensure this works correctly now.
Add scrolling to text that spills out of boxes
Some team names and player names are just too long for my small boxes. I've added text scrolling so that they fit more neatly.
Add scrolling to news screen when there are many news items
Now the news screen will automatically scroll vertically when there are many news items to show -player transfers, players returning from injury/suspension etc
Update season transfer menu buttons/ team selection
Updated to newer style. Still have the editor menus to do next.
..and lots of additional refactoring and bug fixes, too many to mention them all, as always! :)
Early Access to Full Release v1.0, all features added to date
Tiny Football is reaching a significant milestone as it comes out of 6 months of Early Access into full release, version 1.0. This is a round up of all features that have been added to the game in that time. I'm very grateful to all those who have contributed feedback and taken an interest in the game. And the work doesn't stop now, I'll continue to put out updated versions with new features and fixes, as well as taking ideas from players.
Enhancements to gameplay
I improved the AI of the opposing team, making them more challenging to play against, less predictable and working more defensively using zonal marking.
Additionally, players will make attacking runs after passing. Visually this makes off the ball players appear less static than before but more importantly they are working together as a team whether defending or attacking.
Season enhancements
More countries have been added to the season mode in addition to English club teams. So far I've added German, French, Italian, Spanish and Scottish.
I also added a new feature that allows players to buy and sell players during the transfer window to enable squad building. Also, players now age and retire as well as new players coming up through the youth squads adding a slight managerial feel to the game, whilst keeping it fun and simple.
Improving the user interface (UI)
I wanted to make the game more visually appealing for players. I added a new main menu screen, which allows players to easily navigate through different game modes, such as quick match, season mode, and tournaments.
Team selection screens got a major face lift with animated carousel sliders to choose national and club teams from various countries. I also improved the layout of options screen prior to each match to allow users to set options there and then, as well as choose team colours.
An updated player selection screen allows better visualisation of formation on the pitch. A new squad selection screen during match fixtures has been added to allow changing of squad and tactics between matches.
Addition of female players and Women's World Cup
In addition to the existing Men's World Cup, I've added a Women's World Cup to allow players to compete in either of these prestigious events... just in time for the Women's World Cup 2023 kicking off in Australia and New Zealand.
Overall, I am excited to introduce these new features to Tiny Football and hope that players will enjoy them. I believe that the improvements to the UI, gameplay, and game modes will enhance the overall player experience and make Tiny Football even more fun to play. And with a long list of features yet to come, I'm looking forward to what new additions I can add over the next few months.
Continued support and additional features
Finally, I'd like to mention that I will continue to build upon the progress made so far. I've still a host of additions I'm keen to add. In fact, I already have the next update in beta testing and plan on following up with more. I still enjoy developing the game and watching it grow so watch this space for new and exciting features.

..and lots of refactoring and bug fixes, as always!
