To Hell with Hell

Leaving Early Access with the Purgatory Update

The Purgatory Update is here for To Hell With Hell, expanding the games content and story with a new biome and a new massive boss which will hopefully make some players suffer in hell for some time.

The new boss was included into the main part and will definitely bring some further challenges into the hellfire bullet hell. Of course, to fight it, you'll need some new weapons to defeat this monster. Which is why a new load of guns have been added. And you'll find some fresh enemies in hell, too.

Sadly, over the last year, the team behind To Hell With Hell, did fell apart for multiple personal reasons. However we did not want to abandon the game and managed to prepare a big final update with quite a lot of bugfixes and fresh content. We hope you will enjoy the new things! And we hope to meet again one day.

What's cooking in Hell? #2

Greetings everyone!

We just realized we haven't posted too much recently and that we definitely need to change that. The important news is: Development hasn't stopped at all and we're quite busy working on new stuff. Right now we are working on a fresh update for November.

It is quite hard to predict when the update will launch, but November is set for the next update and will contain fresh content. It won't be too much about features this time (as we brought the shop early and twisted our own scheduele for that a bit) but more about fresh enemies and a new biome.

In the coming weeks we'll reveal a bit more on this.

Until then, keep killing some demons :)

To Hell with Hell: Greed Update released!

The time has come. Hell is back. The demons are back. Asmodius needs your help once again. Or, in other words: One of the circles of hell has been finished: Greed is done and now available. Wait, what are we talking about? Well: Since the release of To hell with Hell we’ve been super busy, working on the first major update for the game. And it’s ready now. And the update has the name “Greed”. For a reason. It is all about greed this time, cause you will need to become greedy to get enough currency to buy yourself some cool new stuff!

New Weapons

The most obvious change: Fresh weapons. Need a lipstick? Or want to bring on the cham-pain? Everything is possible and for those who already fell in love with the unicorn, let us tell you that To Hell with Hell became even more weird!

New enemies

Of course. No update can be released without some fresh targets for your new weapons, right? And trust us, these new enemies are kinda spooky this time.

Welcome. To. The. Mall!

Okay. It is no mall but a shop. And with that shop, a lot of new mechanics have been implemented into To Hell with Hell.

  • You can buy a chance that certain weapons will drop in the game
  • You can sell masks in the shop now
  • And you can of course sell weapons, too
  • You can also buy potions in the shop which influence the whole gameplay and are bound to certain new achievements. For a reason.
  • Enemies drop currency (souls) now which is persistent
  • Added a slotmachine for some… fun
  • New portal which directs you to the shop

New Perks & a new mask

We have added three new perks for your playthrough, allowing you to pick new strategies. And of course we have added a new mask. The Psych is now a thing for To Hell with Hell.

Some additional changes

  • Incrased Bullet speed
  • Increased enemies speed
  • Increased player speed
  • All meele weapon can reflect bullets now
  • Increased the time till drops disappear
  • Weapon ammo reduced by 20%
  • Nerfed Banana weapon
  • Items start blinking before they disappear
  • Various gamepad fixes
  • Added gamepad setup
  • Added new achievements based on the potions

Boss changes

  • Added new attacks for first boss on further playthroughs
  • Added new attacks for second boss on further playtghroughs

We’ve been working hard on improving the game and have implemented tons of small fixes as well. But the core feature for greed is of course the shop system. Let us know what you think, let us know how you like the potions. And let us know how you like all the new stuff we’ve been throwing into the new build.

To celebrate todays update, To Hell with Hell is 30% off for one week, also to convince some new players of course (to get some additional feedback from fresh meat so to speak).

Hell and its weapons

Greetings everybody!

As you know we are working hard on the first major update for To Hell with Hell. We're expecting to be ready later this month, hopefully. But so far it is looking good and most of the content is ready to be released soon. Right now we're tweaking, fixing and optimizing a lot.

Next to the new shop system (which will also come with some... special offers) the new update will also contain quite a few weapons and today we'd like to give a small sneakpeak:

What's cooking in Hell? #1

Hello there, children of Asmodius!

It is time for a small update to keep you posted about what's cooking in hell. While we have been a bit silent recently, we have not stopped working on To Hell with Hell. And today we'd like to give you a first insight on what we've been working so hard.

We started on implementing a Hub-System which will be integrated into the game hopefully next month (we were actually a bit faster than originally expected). We won't reveal too much about what we have planned gameplaywise just yet. But as you can see, it will change the forumla a bit and we hope that you are just excited as we are right now.

In the coming days we'll post more details, so stay tuned and slay some demons ;)

Development Roadmap

Hello there, Strippers and Demons!

Our journey through the circles of hell has just begun. Your journey has just begun as well. We hope you are enjoying To Hell with Hell so far. We’ve been collecting feedback during the last weeks to adjust our plans already. Well, we’re adding more points to our lists actually. And we’d like to be as transparent as possible with you, our players.

It was our mission to deliver a good first playable build for the Early Access start. And it seems, according to the feedback we received so far, that we accomplished that mission. There is already quite a some content, the balancing is still a bit off here and there and there are, of course, a few bugs left. But overall we can already say that we’re quite proud of what we have achieved.

Having that said, today we’d like to talk about our roadmap. About our plans. About what is on our list. First of all: We plan to release Content Updates roughly every 8 weeks. We’ll most likely be a bit faster sometimes. And sometimes we’ll most likely be a bit slower (depending on what we’re working on). Also: We have that weird idea of giving the updates names of the 9 circles of hell. Hotfixes, balancing updates and smaller updates will hopefully be released on a more regular base.

Timing: Mid September - Mid October

In the first update we’ll focus on additional content. Why? Because that’s easier for us. We’re lazy. No. That’s actually a lie. But new gameplay features just take more time. And we’d love to release polished features only (as far as polishing is possible, we’ll adjust things on the way anyways as well).

Anyways: That means that the first update will include a new biome and a new boss fight. That also means new weapons and enemies will be added. New masks will be added as well. And maybe we can even include some other items which could be dropped by your enemies. The biome will most likely be an organic one. More details will follow soon.

Timing: Mid November - Mid December

This update depends on you. Most likely we can do both at the same time but we will still start a vote soon as we cannot guarantee it. The Lust-Update will either contain Local Co-Op or a Central Hub. We believe that both features are important milestones on our way through the Early Access but we’re not sure what you want to have first.

The Central Hub would be a zone between the levels where shops would offer specific items. This would also add meta-gameplay elements to the game. The Local Co-Op neesd no further explanation. It’d be Local Co-Op.

Alright. Let us talk about future ideas. We have quite a few. And we’d love to put them up for discussion. As of today, there is no specific order. We have not yet decided about which we’ll take on first. A few might not work hand in hand. Others are so complicated that it will take some time to get them working. This is just a list of ideas we currently have and where we’d love to discuss with you what we should do first:

--- Ideas & Planned Features ---

<*>Currency: This is directly related to the shop system from the Central Hub. In first place we’ll go with a usual currency but we also have a weird idea we’d like to discuss at some point: Making Savegames a currency. For example you’d start the game with 30 saves and could gain new ones but each item and mask at the shop would cost one save.
Timing & Prio: Rather low in terms of priority.

<*>Alechemist: A NPC which sells a variety of elixirs. Each one can modify certain rules of the game for one run. Some might make it easier (Add additional savegames to your run) or harder (only meele weapon, no masks but more perks etc.).
Timing & Prio: Rather high. Something we’d like to include quite fast but definitely after the Lust-Update.

<*>Arena: The Arena would be a survival mode. An enclosed area with waves and waves of enemies till the player is defeated. We could make use of the steam leaderboards here.
Timing & Prio: Maybe sooner than later but currently it is just an idea.

<*>Challenges: A NPC which gives you challenges or Arena Fights. Think of Mortal Kombat here. The challenges would have nothing to do with the actual campaign. While a death in this mode would not affect the overall progress, a success could give you additional currency.
Timing & Prio: We don’t know.

<*>The Master Merchant: A new NPC which can unlock new content. For example he'd provide you shortcuts to later parts of the game and he'd store all the infomration you find in hell.
Timing & Prio: We don’t know.

<*>Weapon & Mask Transmutators: Sacrifice two weapons (masks) and get one new killing machine (or one new mask). This way we could also introduce super rare weapons and masks with special effects for endgame content.
Timing & Prio: We don’t know.

<*>Quests: NPCs which give you sidequests and you get either items or currency as rewards.
Timing & Prio: We don’t know.

<*>Vending Machine: A tool which could be part of the Central Hub at some point. It can randomly generate a list of stuff which could be useful during the campaign. From masks to medkits to bullets. But it will cost currency for sure.
Timing & Prio: We don’t know. Probably a bit faster.

    <*>Additional biomes: Quite obvious, right?
Timing & Prio: Currently this has a medium priority as the first patch will already include new content.

<*>Abbaddon: A tricky demon which lets you sacrifice masks. If you sacrificed enough masks, all your future masks will be boosted.
Timing & Prio: We don’t know.

<*>Boss Intros: Bosses should get animated intros.
Timing & Prio: We know it is cool and in our hearts this has high priority but being realistic this has a very low priority right now. This is a cool gimmick and definitely adds coolness but we need to focus on other aspects first.

<*>Sets: Masks and certain weapons could become a weapon-set which gains additional boni.
Timing & Prio: It is on our list but currently with a very low priority. Somewhen in the future.

<*>Hellgates: At several levels players will be offered to jump into short, but higher difficulty level (for valuable reward)
Timing & Prio: Medium priority. We think this is a cool mechanic which should get some love soon.

<*>Sinner Rooms: By luck you can enter these rooms and free various Sinners. Sinners are basically characters from other games or references to persons of real life.
Timing & Prio: Low to medium. We love the idea but in the end it is more a gimmick.

<*>Secret Rooms: Well. Rooms where you can find special items. And masks. And weapons. These rooms are hidden. Because they are hidden.
Timing & Prio: Medium. We all love secret areas.

We have more ideas. Some are gameplay related. Some others are content related. But we’d also love to hear your ideas. And we’d like to hear your feedback on our ideas and we want to know what you want to see first. So feel free to let us know your thoughts. We’re here. We’re listening.

    Streamers gonna Stream

The release is getting closer everyday now. And we're currently sending out thousands of keys to Streamers and Youtubers. So it is likely that you can find someone showcasing To Hell with Hell on Twitch, Mixer or Youtube. Maybe even on Facebook.

Whenever we find the time, we gonna join Streams as well and answer questions. But keep in mind: We're also still working on the game and thanks to the feedback we got so far, we already started tweaking the game a bit (right now, it seems that especially later on the ammo gets a bit... well, non existant). Quite some work ahead.

But: Finally people are getting their hands on the game.

    The Road to Release

Phew. Just two weeks left. And we'd like to give you some insights. We're currently working on the last tweaks for the Early Access build. In fact, today is our official code freeze. From now on, only bugs will be fixed. Everything which is related to new features will still be done but hold back for the first major update.

Why? Well: We don't want to break things form here on. We are feature and content complete for the Early Access (which doesn't meant we're feature and content complete for the future). And adding new stuff could easily kill the balancing, influence the game code itself or just make everything unplayable. And we prefer to have a smooth launch.

Two weeks for finetuning are hopefully enough but we're quite optimistic here. We found one gamebraking bug today and some smaller issues. But overall we have had no crashes since quite some time now, which is good sign.

On the marketing side we're currently preparing press releases and will soon send out keys to press and streamers. That means you should soon start seeing To Hell with Hell on Twitch & Youtube to get a better impression of the gameplay :)
