Here we are again; the end of another year and a moment to reflect.
Several letters ago I committed myself and the franchise to being more open and transparent (mixed success based on some feedback I see), and this is a chance for me to talk about both our successes, and failures.
Thank you so much for your support over the years be it through praise or criticism. We do read the feedback, take it to heart, sometimes beat ourselves up about how dumb we did a thing, and then plan how we make things better.
2025 has been a landmark year for the Total War franchise. We celebrated 25 incredible years of the franchise and marked the occasion by announcing three new projects Iāve been excited about since I came to CA. We also shared a first look at Warcore, the brand-new Total War game engine (to be fair itās built on top of the last one so a little Ship of Theseus here), and spoke about bringing our new games to console (I'll talk more about that later).
We revealed the worldsā worst kept secret, weāre making a game in one of my favorite universes, Warhammer 40,000. At the same time, we look to our past, both Total Warās and humanityās, to set our sights on the Middle Ages with MEDIEVAL III (now? Soon?). Iāll write more on why we made the call to announce it. And finally, we are not finished with Total War Warhammer III as we revealed Lords of the End Times. Itās my hope that we talked about at least one setting that you're excited for.
Our Anniversary Showcase was the first event like this weāve ever done; and a longstanding ambition for us.
We know we didnāt get everything perfect in this plan, but aligning three projects at very different stages in their development cycle is challenging. Thereās plenty of feedback weāll take on board for next time, and thatās exactly how it should be. In retrospect, I wish weād also spent time celebrating our players and the mods across all our games ā but thatās something weāll explore in the future.
For a first attempt, I couldnāt be happier for the teams who pulled this off and gave you a genuine glimpse into the projects weāve eagerly been building. Iām proud of what we did and happy for what we learned. Those in front of the camera are lifelong Total War fans, and while exciting, itās also incredibly nerve wracking talking publicly about the things youāre working on ā I'm hugely proud of them all. It was an enormously complex orchestration of presenting the showcase internationally, launching a DLC, and releasing Immortal Empires to WH1 and 2 players.
Over half a million people tuned in, and seeing that mix of familiar faces, players coming back after years away, and people discovering Total War for the very first time was awesome. It meant a lot to the team, and moments like that remind us why we choose to do this for a living.
In the future, we want to deliver more of these moments. Could a Total War-con work? Would you come? Regardless, future events might not all look the same, but each will show what Total War is up to across its many projects and where itās going.
Weāve just rolled out Hotfix 7.0.3 as an opt-in Beta for Total War: WARHAMMER III, giving you the chance to get an early look at the myriad tweaks and fixes weāve been working on in the wake of 7.0 and Hotfixes 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 before our teams sign off for a well-deserved festive break.
You can find full instructions on how to opt-in to a Beta on Steam here. The Beta you need to select from the dropdown menu is 'beta_hotfix_703 - BETA Hotfix 7.0.3'.
Once weāre back, fully stuffed and well-rested (hopefully), weāll be taking a look at any feedback raised from the Beta and set to work on getting 7.0.3 ready for a full release. Unlike in the past when weāve used the Beta branch to deliver Hotfixes, we are keen to ensure that we do take on board your feedback around the changes and fixes weāve implemented. This does mean that 7.0.3 will only release once weāre happy with its content, so please expect this to remain on the Beta branch until we reach that point.
Whilst our teams will be monitoring for any unexpected behaviours, we expect that this is our final release of 2025. We want to give our sincere thanks to everyone who has helped by giving feedback, pointing out errors and raising bug reports. All of this has helped us to provide the changes and improvements you wanted to see this year, and we hugely appreciate your passion and enthusiasm!
With that said, letās jump into the list of changes.[/p][p][/p][p]š READ FULL HOTFIX 7.0.3 BETA NOTES HERE š [/p][p][/p][p] ā Steve Coleman // Senior Community Manager [/p][p][/p]

Today, weāre releasing Hotfix 6.2.1, bringing new fixes and tweaks to Total War: WARHAMMER III including balance changes to Books of Khorne and some new quality of life improvements.
Without further ado, letās get into it.
ā Anastasija DolgoÅ”ejeva // Senior Community Manager // Your friendly neighbourhood penguin [/p]
Quality of Life Highlights
[p] Implemented a āEnable Realms of Chaos Frontend Videoā (currently āSkip realms of Chaos videoā) option into Game settings in the main menu. Enabling this setting will ensure the Realms of Chaos video plays before the frontend. Disabling it will skip the video when launching the game. [/p]
[p] Single clicking on the icon for a reinforcement point on Domination Maps will no longer pan the camera to that location. Double clicking on the icon for a reinforcement point on Domination Maps will pan the camera to that location. [/p]
Campaign
Items
[p] We had one extra Unique tier item we planned to add that didnāt quite make it into 6.2: The Chalice of Malfleur. The Chalice is an arcane item that offers a huge trade-off to a caster - can you overcome its huge miscast penalties to benefit from its powerful rewards? [/p]
[p] Azhag's Crown of Sorcery no longer says it unlocks Lore of Death spells since Azhag has this innately. [/p]
[p] Fixed an issue where the next volumes of the Books of Khorne wouldn't drop for a Khornite faction. [/p]
Balance Changes
[p] Weāve changed Khorneās version of the Book of Khorne so that it no longer gives Spell intensity and instead Silenceās everyone in the region. A bit more fitting and useful for a Khorne faction. [/p]
[p] We originally made the decision that the permanent razing effect of the completed Book of Khorne would prevent even Khorne factions from settling ruins through their automatic ruin colonization feature - however on second thought and considering your early feedback weāve decided to re-enable ruin colonization via this feature for Khorne factions. Weāll continue to monitor feedback on this. [/p]
Skills
[p] Caskets of Souls aren't just for Christmas! They're affected by red line skills like other units :) [/p]
[p] Azhag's skill "Insane Visions" now provides factionwide hero recruit rank increase instead of provincewide. [/p]
[p] Paint da Beasts now affects Waaagh trophy units. [/p]
UI
[p] Moved "Minor Faction Potential" and "AI Strength & Threat Assessment" checkboxes from endgame settings to general campaign settings (this will not affect current campaigns). [/p]
[p] āImplemented a āEnable Realms of Chaos Frontend Videoā option into Game settings in the main menu. Enabling this setting (currently āSkip realms of Chaos videoā) will ensure the Realms of Chaos video plays before the frontend. Disabling it will skip the video.ā [/p]
[p] The Black Arkās Docked effect now uses an icon when in pre-battle screen. [/p]
[p] Fixed not restoring army selection after treasury, objectives or treasure maps panel has been closed. [/p]
[p] Volksgrad is a major settlement, the garrison buildings available now correctly reflect that. [/p]
[p] The Altdorf College of Forbidden Magic now correctly shows as a landmark in the building browser. [/p]
General Fixes
[p] Fixed a potential crash on AI turns. [/p]
[p] Fixed a crash when defeating a Malakai adventureās Wood Elf Force. [/p]
[p] When occupying Kislev settlements that contain Court or Orthodoxy buildings, those buildings now convert as expected. [/p]
[p] Shadow Realm stance no longer shows as a negative effect for Alith Anar. [/p]
[p] The cost of discovery buildings is now in the correct order for Bretonnia, Vampire Coast, Dark Elves, Empire, High Elves, Lizardmen, Norsca, Skaven, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Wood Elves, Warriors of Chaos, Grand Cathay, Daemons of Chaos, Khorne, Kislev, Ogre Kingdoms, Slaanesh and Tzeentch. [/p]
Battle
[p] Fixed a possible crash during battle that may occur on the map "Vampire Forest" and possibly other maps too. [/p]
[p] We've removed the expendable attribute from the Hobgoblin Bolt Thrower because Hobgoblins are not expendable. [/p]
[p] Blood Knights & Blood Knights (Lances) now have their own unit caps. [/p]
[p] Hobgoblin Bolt Thrower now has its own unit cap, matching that of other bolt throwers. [/p]
[p] The Grudge Settler Quarreller (Great Weapons) now has the correct class (and icon). [/p]
[p] The Emperor's Wrath (Steam Tank) no longer shows different stats in battle & campaign. [/p]
