Weekly Dev Log for December 7th, 2020

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for December 7th, 2020, detailing all the changes that have happened since November 30th, 2020. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

Update 0.13.1.0 (Karaoke Rooms)


Work continues on the next update to Tower Unite, Update 0.13.1.0. Snow has fallen with this update, as the Winter Plaza and Holiday Events return. This update will also contain Karaoke Rooms, which are rent-able private nightclub rooms you can reserve for you and your friends. This update will also include bug fixes and new features, which you can read about here.

December 2020 Condo Contest Begins


This month, we're running a winter / festivity theme condo contest! This contest runs through the entire month of December, ending on December 31st. First place winner takes home 1,000,000 units, and participants may be rewarded 75,000 units! You can read more about the contests, as well as the rules here.

Miscellany



Johanna finished working on the player fade system, which will fade players from your view if they get too close to your camera, preventing griefing. She also finished up the Nightclub Karaoke Rooms, and updated the Arcade to include the Arcade Billiards.

Lifeless continued working on the Virus map, "Theme Park".

macdguy worked on implementing the Karaoke rooms, along with changes to the Snowball Battle minigame, and implementing the player fade system and fixes for various Billiards bugs.

Madmijk worked on trying to resolve Soundcloud sync issues with the Nightclub.

Sketchman continued working on crash fixes, adding a fix for a crash related to workshop icons, and another fix for a workshop related crash. He also added LODs to some lobby and character meshes, and recomposed the workshop code to further reduce hitching when loading a model.

Wheezwer started the condo contest, worked on concept for the rail shooting gallery tunnel, worked on concept art for a future feature, art for the Karaoke Rooms and dialogue for the Karaoke Room NPC. She also worked on finishing the Steam trading card stuff to get it wrapped up.

The Nightclub Update (0.13.0.0)


Last week, we released the long awaited Nightclub, which features a fully fledged visualizer with YouTube and Soundcloud support, along with Billiards.

Little Crusaders: Mystic Grove


In the Nightclub update (0.13.0.0), we also released the new Little Crusaders map, Mystic Grove.

Lifeless worked on getting the map ready for release.

Chris finished working on a new gun for Slaughterday Night Live.

Johanna continued working on the rail-based shooting gallery. She also started working on a fade system that will fade out other players from your view while playing a game, preventing players from blocking your view.

JJosh continued working on the new Plaza NPCs.

Lifeless continued working on the Virus map, "Theme Park".

macdguy worked on resolving bugs that occurred from the original Nightclub update.

Madmijk worked on trying to resolve Soundcloud sync issues with the Nightclub.

Sketchman continued working on crash fixes and issues with time synchronization, while also helping fix issues with Billiards.

Wheezwer worked on concept art for the building which will house the rail-based shooting gallery. She also worked on new designs for the Redbubble.

Will finished working on the music for the Lighthouse store.

Hot Fix 0.13.0.1

We're glad you're all enjoying the Nightclub! This hot fix addresses several issues you've reported. We got more fixes in the works as well.

Changes
  • Nightclub: Media that you request now will have a blue background and media your friends have requested will have a green background
  • Nightclub: Added warning before adding media informing users that YouTube videos don't work with the visualizer
  • Nightclub: Reduced voteskip percentage needed from 2/3 to 1/2
  • Nightclub: Media that is longer than 30 minutes can no longer be added to the queue
  • Nightclub: Stream media can no longer be added to the queue
  • Nightclub: Billiards area now hides player name tags
  • Billiards: If the a player leaves mid-game, the other player should automatically win
  • Billiards: Reduced friction a bit
  • Billiards: You can now cancel the shot you started adjusting power with right click
  • Billiards: Walking too far from the billiards table you are currently playing will now forfeit your game
  • Billiards: Added overview camera mode (space bar) that toggles the camera to an above shot of the table
  • Glowing Headphones now react to Soundcloud enabled visualizer data


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed mouse scrolling in media queue sometimes not working
  • Fixed memory leak issue related to media volume slider on the bottom left of the HUD, and thus the media volume slider is now back
  • Nightclub: Fixed some Soundcloud songs not having any audio due to a privacy setting set by the artist
  • Nightclub: Fixed missing collision on entrance stairwell ceiling
  • Billiards: Sometimes the wrong person is awarded the win
  • Billiards: Fixed an exploit
  • Billiards: Fixed a bug where the cue would hit if you have chat open or pause menu
  • Trivia: Fixed the trivia buttons not being properly clickable

The Nightclub Update (0.13.0.0)



The Nightclub is now open!


Yes, it's here! The Nightclub features a full fledged visualizer with YouTube and Soundcloud support. Order drinks at the bar, or play billiards in the pool hall. Soundcloud music is fully visualized and synced with the lights of the Nightclub.

New Multiplayer Game: 8-Ball Billiards


Featured in the Nightclub (and soon Arcade and Casino) is 8-ball Billiards. Play with a friend or by yourself. Chalk not included (not a joke, we haven't added chalk yet to the game).



New Little Crusaders Map: Mystic Grove


Mystic Grove takes place in a dark and foreboding forest that holds special power. Only those who are worthy enough can wield the sword and use it against the powerful dragon.

Sneak around and use your lanterns sparingly, for the Dragon is hungrier at night.




Changes
  • Nightclub is now open
  • Billiards is now available to play in the Nightclub
  • Nightclub bar is now open
  • Little Crusaders: Mystic Grove
  • Sync your dances to the music: You can now adjust the speed of your emotes by holding CTRL and using the mouse wheel to adjust the speed of your current emote
  • Plaza: Upped AFK timer from 60 seconds to 3 minutes in Plaza
  • AFK HUD now shows up in Plaza
  • AFK HUD now warns you when you are about to go AFK
  • Added media volume slider to the bottom left of the HUD when you have any media player being watched
  • LC: Added a dynamic light when knights are on fire
  • LC: Added depth shadow for dragon so you can see the dragon at all times as the dragon
  • Moved Haunted Painting item to DIY store
  • LC: Knights now have longer sprint durations, and higher rank knights get slightly longer sprint durations
  • LC: Increased dragon sprint speed by 10%
  • LC - Knightsend-by-Sea lighting pass


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed emote camera offsets not colliding with the floors, which allowed the camera to clip through the ground
  • When you view yourself, the camera now remembers where it was before and interps back to that position instead of rotating the player into a new rotation after finishing viewself
  • Plaza: Fixed Lighthouse lamp not always being on at night
  • Plaza optimizations and misc collision fixes
  • Plaza: Fixed interior atmospheric fog enabling when streaming from one interior to another interior
  • Fixed player action UI (the C menu) always recreating itself, which would cause bandwidth usage as it reloaded the workshop information each key press
  • Fixed Movie Theater Seat item being off center


Known Issues
  • Due to the visualization system, Soundcloud in the Nightclub currently does not sync when players enter late. We are working on resolving this

Hot Fix 0.12.2.2

Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's Halloween events! The events are now over and our next holiday events to look forward to are the Winter Holidays 2020!

Finished New Lighthouse and Sea Store Stores


The new location for the Sea Store is now complete with new music and atmosphere. The new lighthouse interior was also completed in this update. These were mostly complete during Halloween events, but now they are fully finished.

Pine Valley Track 2 Update 0.12.2.0 & Hotfix 0.12.2.1


Last week, we released Update 0.12.2.0 which included Track 2 of the Accelerate map, Pine Valley, along with several crash fixes for Workshop. You can view everything included with that update here.

We also released a Hotfix (Update 0.12.2.1), which included general balancing and bug fixes for issues identified with Update (0.12.2.0). You can read more about that hotfix here.

Halloween Event Ending (Update 0.12.2.2)


We're currently working on Update 0.12.2.2, which will bring an end to the Halloween Events, as well some crash fixes. We're hoping to get this update out tomorrow or Wednesday. You can read more about this update here.

November 2020 Condo Contest Begins

Hot Fix 0.12.2.1

This update focuses on fixing various issues in the game, along with balancing fixes.

Changes
  • Little Crusaders: Reduced sprint speed of knights & dragon just a tad
  • Accelerate: Reverted the hurry up timer change back to 60 seconds
  • Accelerate: Increased Pine Valley lap count from 3 to 4
  • Accelerate: Removed speed lines effects
  • Virus: Increased Flak Hand Cannon damage so that each flak bullet can land a kill (unless they are enraged)
  • Virus: New name tags, no longer get in the way of aiming like the current ones do
  • Virus: Increased range of the radar a tad
  • Trivia: Removed requirement to have other players for the Brainiac achievement to unlock
  • Added idle animation to Sea Store NPC
  • Finished Sea Store (seal) dialogue and sounds
  • New store UI setup. Camera is now set on the NPC you are interacting with (unless it's in pedestal mode)


Bug Fixes
  • Resolved more workshop crashes
  • Fixed Tower Addiction achievement not unlocking
  • Little Crusaders: Fixed the host not being able to press the dragon's button sometimes
  • Virus: Fixed a bug with the weapon system that caused the weapon traces to fail in certain cases
  • Virus: Fixed players becoming infected if they late join during pre-round state
  • Virus: Fixed infected being able to kill survivors before they have ignited (also fixes the white box in the kill feed)
  • Pine Valley - Track 2: Fixed tunnel railing collision
  • Pine Valley - Track 2: Fixed gap between boxes in tunnels
  • Pine Valley - Track 2: Fixed the ramp out of the waterfall section not giving enough boost
  • Pine Valley - Track 2: Fixed start line screen
  • Fixed Pine Valley Track 2 leaderboards in collection book still showing as "coming soon"
  • Accelerate: Fixed sun item hitting the same player multiple times within a second, thus spamming the kill feed
  • Accelerate: Fixed ready camera not working on track 2 for clients
  • Accelerate: Fixed timer, position, speedometer showing while you are finished & spectating
  • Fixed "waiting for players" UI colors being grey
  • Zombie Massacre - Village: Fixed boss getting stuck on the car
  • Condo: Fixed missing screen space reflections in the outside areas

Pine Valley Track 2 Update (0.12.2.0)



Pine Valley Track 2


Track 2 of Pine Valley is now ready to play! We've also balanced Accelerate gameplay in this update.

Keep your eyes peeled when you hit the road on Pine Valley’s second track. In this new addition to our forested raceway, rocky roads lead to sharp turns and ramps where timing is everything! A scenic river runs through the whole track with water from the many waterfalls that flow over the cliffsides.








Addressing Workshop Crashes


In this update we focused on crashes relating to Workshop player models. There were a few crashes that started to crop up relating to various user generated content.

Halloween 2020 Events End November 16th


We'll be concluding our Halloween 2020 events very soon! Make sure you grab as many Ghoul Coins as you can before the event ends!




Changes
  • Accelerate: Pine Valley Track 2
  • Condo: Added fish support to the Resort suite aquariums
  • Accelerate: Sun item will no longer be given to players if a sun item was just recently used
  • Accelerate: Reduced "hurry up" timer to 30 seconds (was 60 seconds)
  • Accelerate: Players who aren't racing no longer get items
  • Little Crusaders: Added use prompts to pickups and Birb
  • Media player UI now has an updated look


Bug Fixes
  • Several crash fixes for Workshop
  • Resolved issues relating to game timers being desynced
  • Adjusted Ball Race/Minigolf platform synchronization rate to reduce jitters
  • Fixed crash related to loading workshop items in the workshop editor
  • Fixed game world menu for 4:3 resolution. Now when it's in that aspect mode, it'll automatically hide the server list on the right and add a find server button so everything can fit
  • Made lots of little spacing adjustments for 4:3 resolutions
  • Adjusted scaling of create map list to fit for 4:3 resolutions
  • Fixed leaving Songbirds or Toy Stop leading to a soft lock
  • Fixed some big flat fish from getting stuck inside small pools
  • Fixed the fish drag slot in the Highrise pool not working
  • Fixed issues with purchases failing often in the Ghoulcery store
  • Accelerate: Fixed speed effects displaying after finishing a race
  • Accelerate: Fixed empty items in your inventory after finishing a race
  • Virus: Fixed TNT being able to kill survivors in some cases
  • Little Crusaders: Fixed an exploit

Weekly Dev Log for November 9th, 2020

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for November 9th, 2020, detailing all the changes that have happened since November 2nd, 2020. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

Pine Valley Track 2 Update 0.12.2.0


We're currently working on getting Update 0.12.2.0 ready for release. This update will contain Track 2 of the Accelerate map, Pine Valley, along with several crash fixes for Workshop and other bug fixes in general. You can view everything included with this update here.

November 2020 Condo Contest Begins


This month, we're running an autumn-themed Condo Contest! This contest ends on November 23rd, so make sure to get your submissions in ASAP! Winner takes home 1,000,000 units! You can read more about the contest, as well as rules for Co-op condo submissions here.

Miscellany



Caboose700 continued working on implementing various new items and finalizing the upgrades items.

Johanna worked on getting the Winter Plaza prepared and continued working on track 2 of the Accelerate map, Sunrise Isles.

Lifeless continued working on the Accelerate map, Wishy Washy Waterfall.

macdguy worked on getting the Pine Valley: Track 2 update ready for release, and also started working on Billiards and bug fixes/balancing for games worlds.

Madmijk fixed various bugs pertaining to fish, while also fixing other reported bugs.

Sketchman worked on several issues pertaining to Workshop crashes, worked on reducing hitching with loading Workshop models, worked on some fixes with the game timer system, created a fix for transaction issues pertaining to Sea Dollars and Ghoul Coins, and made general touch-ups to the advertisement artwork in the Plaza.

Wheezwer continued working on concept art for NPCs.

Will continued working on music for the Accelerate map, Wishy Washy Waterfall, as well as music for the Lighthouse store.

Something Around the Corner?



You may be wondering why this Dev Log was a bit smaller than usual. That's because we've been putting the final touches on something special in the background. We don't want to spoil the surprise, but don't worry we'll be showing it off very soon, so stay tuned!
