Plaza Optimizations & Bug Fixes


This update is heavy on optimizations and bug fixes with a focus on the Plaza! We've fixed over a hundred Plaza related bugs in this update!


New Holiday Items!




Holiday 2024 Items are here! These include new placeable items, pets, and weapons. They also include a variety of new holiday profile backgrounds.

New Casino Exterior & Entrance




The Casino Exterior and Entrance have gotten some love this update! The entrance has been updated to add a new social area to the Plaza, and make the Casino interior and exterior more consistent with one another.

We’ve also added a fountain area around the back exterior of the Casino which will add yet another area for hanging out in the Plaza, and improve the overall appearance of the Plaza.

With these changes, the Casino has also been greatly optimized.




Boardwalk Ice Cream Shop Now Open!



As part of our continued work to finish under construction sections of Plaza, the ice cream shop on the boardwalk is now open!

This is another cozy area for players to hang out and buy items without entering the Arcade.

New Fishing Peninsula!



The Fishing Peninsula art pass is included in this update! This brings the Peninsula up to the quality of the rest of the Plaza.


Vroomspeed Is Now Open!




Vroomspeed is open! You can now buy stationary vehicles. There are currently two types of vehicles - Stationary (open the doors and sit inside) & Props (static for decoration). The sedan item has been moved to Vroomspeed from Rob’s Imports.


New Items!




On the Road to 1.0, we’ve also been working on adding more basic items to increase the catalogue. These include common household appliances, tools, lights, and more! The full list of new items is below.

Inventory: Quick Action Toolbar




New to condo builders is the Quick Action Toolbar, found at the bottom right of your inventory. This handy toolbar has various editing toggles such as showing/hiding volumes and surface editing. It's also the new location for the Item Finder.

    • VR: Updated VR bindings for Oculus and Vive. Default Steam Input bindings should now be setup properly for these controllers
    • Condo: Updated icons for Canvas Primitives
    • Condo: Updated Soda Fountain item to have one coloring slot (metal was replaced with plastic in the past) and added an emissive slider
    • Virus - Hospital: Adjusted ward room in Hospital to prevent camping as much particularly in Horde mode
    • Virus - Hospital: Made quite a few changes to the waiting room to prevent sightlines
    • Inventory: Moved item finder button to the new inventory quick options bar

    • Libretro: Added controller mode that shows no controller in first person with the Controller item

    • Arcade: Redecorated the front room and moved the pluck-a-pal machines
    • Theater: Added frames around the projector light origin instead of just a black plane
    • Theater: Reduced the distance of the projector light FX to avoid it blocking the view of the media being played
    • Game World Ports: Updated the construction walls to new ones, changed their colors to not be as distracting
    • Nature Store: Added butterflies to nature garden

Next Update



We're hard at work and very close to completion on our next update, which we're aiming for release this week.

The upcoming Plaza update is heavy on optimizations, bug fixes, and new additions! We’ve fixed over a hundred Plaza related bugs in this update!

It'll also bring with it new Holiday items, and a bunch of highly requested items.

Miscellany



Johanna worked on wrapping up the changes to the Plaza for the next update.

Lifeless spent some time working on Accelerate, specifically with issues with rubber-banding when boosting. He also worked on separating the tracks, making them individual maps instead of one map with two different tracks.

macdguy worked on bug fixes and Plaza changes for the next update. He also setup the Vroomspeed store, and worked on leaderboards, achievements, audio passes, and special Minigolf hazards for the Minigolf map, Dino Drive.

Nuclearxpotato worked on implementing food items for Cooking. He also continued working on the backlog of requested furinture items, this week working on Vintage Filing Cabinets, a Utility Cabinet, some Booth Sectional pieces, a Wood Four-post Bed, and a Brass Frame Bed.

Sketchman continued working on optimizations and fixes for the next update, specifically focusing on optimizations with the Lobby Scoreboard, a reduction in hard references (which should help with loading times), and more.

Johanna continued working on plaza optimizations and polish in preparation for our 1.0 release, while also fixing various bugs for the upcoming Plaza update.

Lifeless updated the area behind the Laser Tag arena.

macdguy worked on a bunch of under the hood code changes, bug fixes, and detailed areas of the Plaza.

Miscellany



Lifeless worked on trying to fix AMD GPU crashes. He also made some changes to the Hospital map in Virus.

macdguy fixed issues and bugs with the inventory, as well as implementing a quick action bar. He also worked on code for the Holiday items, as well as work on the Shooting Gallery and the Vroomspeed Store.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on the Minigolf map, Dino Drive. He also worked on Holiday items, setup the new profile backgrounds and polished some upcoming items.

Sketchman continued working on optimizations and fixes.

We have added 5 new holiday backgrounds to Santa's Workshop. We plan to have more in the next update.

While the events have just started, we're still currently in the middle of a major Plaza update which we're working to get out very soon. The next Plaza update will have new Winter items and should be out within the next week or two.

As we've been saying, we've been working hard on bug fixes, which this new Plaza update addresses. This is all a part of the Road to 1.0.

Johanna has been working on plaza optimizations and polish in preparation for our 1.0 release. While optimizing, she's also been working on fake interiors for more immersion and seamless transitions between interiors and exteriors.

Nuclearxpotato has been working on highly-requested furniture for Condos to help fill out our catalogue, this week working on some new Laundry Machine items.

New items are a Basic Dryer, Basic Washer, Combo, and Commercial Dryer.

Both "Basic" machines have the option to add coin slots. The commercial dryer has an option to make it an "upper" machine for stacking.



All machines have spinning drums that can be enabled.



Miscellany



As last week was our Thanksgiving break, we had a shorter worke week. We're back in normal development starting this week.

Joshua worked on some upcoming holiday items.

macdguy fixed some bugs relating to leaving vehicles. He also updated the VR bindings for Oculus and Vive, which should hopefully fix Oculus controllers.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on the Minigolf map, Dino Drive.

Sketchman worked on fixing bugs released in the patch last week.

Wheezwer finished the December calendar and started the new contests.

Will continued working on the 1.0 trailer music.

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s Tower Unite Dev Log!

Winter 2024-25 Condo Contest





Hey everyone,

The 2024-25 Winter Condo Contest has started!

As usual, we’re doing a Winter / Festivity theme.

So, your build should be either: winter-related, themed after winter holidays / holiday activities (including New Years), or generally wintry and festive!

The submission period ends on January 22nd, 2025 at 11:59 PM.

Nuclearxpotato has been working on highly-requested furniture for Condos to help fill out our catalogue, this week working on Lobby Lounge Chairs, Vintage Radiators, Basic Bathtub, Clawfoot Bathtub (and a Trashed version), and Industrial Lights.

Miscellany



Last week some of our staff was impacted by a bomb cyclone storm that hit Washington state. During the week, development was put on hold for those staff due to long power outages and Internet outages.

Everyone is okay and power and Internet was just restored early this week. We also had some other staff members out of work for the week due to other real-life incidents.

After our Thanksgiving break, we will be back to normal development.

This week will also be a shorter development week as we have our Thanksgiving break.

Johanna worked on the Plaza changes for the next major Plaza update that focuses on bug fixes and optimizations, along with working on the Ice Cream store for the boardwalk as part of the road to 1.0.

Joshua continued working on the new player models, focusing on outfits.

macdguy was impacted by the bomb cyclone storm and was out of power for the majority of the week, but also worked on finalizing the boardwalk shooting gallery and major bug fixes.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on the Minigolf map, Dino Drive.

Sketchman was impacted by the storm and was unable to work most of the week, but has been working on bug fixes for the rich presence feature for an upcoming hot fix.

Wheezwer worked on player profile backgrounds for Christmas, the holiday winter contests, and December calendar, along with organizing through reported bug fixes.

Will continued working on the 1.0 trailer music.

Cosmic Catsack Makeship Plushie! - FUNDED!





Thank you for everyone who supported our Makeship campaign for the Cosmic Catsack plushie!

They should start shipping on March 20th, 2025, so keep an eye out in the mail for your friend made out of space-time!

Bug Fixes Update (0.18.3.0)





Last week, we released Update 0.18.3.0 which included a bunch of bug fixes, as we inch closer to our 1.0 release.

This update included over 90 fixes to areas of the game that have had issues pop up in the recent updates, as well as long standing bugs.

Johanna continued working on finishing optimizations and art for the Plaza.

Joshua continued working on the new player models.

macdguy released the bug fixes update, and fixed more crashes over the weekend. He also finished both the Arcade and Boardwalk shooting galleries.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on the Minigolf map, Dino Drive. He also updated the House condo to include the new garage door and fixed bugs with static windows.

Sketchman worked on optimizations and fixing bugs in preparation for the 1.0 release.

Wheezwer worked on organizing the player bug feedback, worked on art for posters, and other misc tasks.

Will continued working on the 1.0 trailer music.

Bug Fixes Update (0.18.3.0)



Hey everyone! Now that we’ve stated our plans for the “Road to 1.0”, we’re here with a first update to tackle reported bugs!

This update includes over 90 fixes to areas of the game that have had issues pop up in the recent updates, as well as long standing bugs.

We’ve already been getting a ton of responses and have gotten to work on major bugs that have been reported there in addition to ones we already knew about!

PLAZA FIXES



We’ve tackled bugs and made gameplay tweaks in the Plaza.

These include fixes to Arcade, Casino, Fishing, Minigames, Dark Voyage, and more!

The fishing ponds should now be functional (excluding the peninsula), and there have been fixes to general gameplay as well.

In the Casino, fixes were made to Aces and they are now calculated properly as high or low in all card games, soft locks were fixed, bingo cards no longer display on the wrong screens, and Silver Saddles now properly returns your bet if you win.

In the Arcade, Coin River, Dragon’s Treasure, Coloracle, Cow Wheel, and Balloon Pop have all had major fixes, as well as fixes to LODs.

In Dark Voyage, player guns no longer block your view, allowing you to enjoy the game without your friends getting in the way.

Other fixes are detailed in the changelog below!

GAME WORLD FIXES



This update includes many fixes for collision issues and spawn points in Virus: Subway.

Ball Race, Zombie Massacre, SDNL, and Virus all had fixes to visual issues, gameplay, and collision, respectively.

There were also fixes and improvements for Sub-Objectives in Zombie Massacre, and SDNL grav glove prediction improvements.

CONDO FIXES



Several fixes have been made for item collision desyncs, visual issues, and other minor map issues in Highrise, Underwater, and Resort Condos! Also, hiding items now saves!

Further changes are detailed below! Again, we greatly appreciate any feedback in our feedback survey, forums, or other comments!

PLAZA FIXES COMING NEXT



We are hard at work on the major Plaza changes which will include the new Casino entrance & outside area, new fishing peninsula, and various fixes and optimizations.

Changes

  • Virus: All weapons now automatically reload when their clip is empty (if they have ammo)
  • You can now rotate your camera (without rotating yourself) while on the broom stick after pressing right click
  • Player Profiles: Made friends only status a lot more noticeable. Removed the underline effect and added an icon
  • Player Profiles: Made location status a lot more visible on bright backgrounds
  • Added mature condo filter support to Condo Hub
  • Typing Derby: Added an animation when you fail a word
  • Condo: Fixed stashed item notifications duplicating multiple times (now it combines all the recent notifications into one)
  • Arcade: Optimized leaderboards
  • Casino - Bingo: Added mouse mode toggle (space key), which will keep the camera static on the board and enable mouse input allowing you to select without moving your view
  • Added circular variant to Mirror Panel item, and support for future shapes

  • Added Basic Garage Door to D.I.Y.

  • Arcade: Fixed coin pushers
  • Arcade: Fixed issues with Coloracle
  • Arcade: Fixed issues with Cow Wheel
  • Arcade: Fixed soft lock with Arcade and Boardwalk Games when first playing them (such as Milk Jug Toss leading to not being able to toss the ball)
  • Arcade: Fixed Prismatic ending too early when there's still balls in the maze
  • Arcade: Fixed LOD of Wheel of Fire sign
  • Arcade - Pluck-a-Pal: Fixed sheep plush being too big in Pluck-a-Pal making it impossible to grab
  • Arcade - Pluck-a-Pal: Fixed collisions with Obnoxious Citrus for Pluck-a-Pal
  • Boardwalk - Balloon Pop: Fixed balloons not always making a pop sound and also improved the pop sound
  • Boardwalk - Balloon Pop: Fixed top left balloon popping immediately preventing you from winning the game
  • Boardwalk - Balloon Pop: Fixed balloons not popping for spectators
  • Boardwalk - Milk Jug Toss: Added settle delay to ensure the milk jugs have settled before ending the game
  • Dark Voyage: Fixed guns from other players blocking your view (now they fade out)
  • Casino - Video Poker: Fixed ace pairs not counting as jacks or better
  • Casino - Video Poker/Poker: Fixed ace not calculating as low or high properly
  • Casino - Blackjack: Fixed being able to double down on a natural blackjack, causing bet calculation issues
  • Casino - Silver Saddles: Fixed your bet towards a winning horse not being rewarded back to you
  • Casino - Bingo: Fixed cards being assigned to the wrong screens
  • Casino: Fixed long-standing issue where you could not get up from their slot machine if you just did an action or spun the wheel
  • Fishing: Fixed not being able to move bobber in one of the fishing pond
  • Fishing: Fixed fish sometimes spawning too far out from the range of the bobber radius
  • Fishing: Fixed fishing cast circle having visual glitch
  • Trivia: Fixed Top Total Score leaderboard not updating while playing single player
  • Trivia: Fixed many issues where players would not be put into the seats properly, or could get the game to soft lock
  • Trivia: Fixed an issue where you could not be able to cast to a response with keyboard shortcut sometimes
  • Halloween: Fixed pumpkin placements in Plaza (ones that were clipping or floating)
  • Halloween: Fixed trick or treat candy buckets blocking camera
  • Typing Derby: Fixed some exploits


Condo Bug Fixes

  • Condo: Fixed items that are hidden being desynced with clients who late join
  • Condo/SDK: Fixed needing to double click to change item targets on condo IO connections
  • Condo/SDK: Fixed "Goto" condo IO connection feature not working properly
  • Condo: Fixed unset canvas material displaying as Sky Space
  • Condos: Resort - Fixed gap in floor underneath Suite doors
  • Condos: Resort - Fixed water in fountain being solid
  • Condos: Resort - Fixed landscape near pool weirdly glitching out
  • Condos: Resort - Fixed Z fighting in the store area
  • Condos: Resort - Fixed small gaps in Arcade stairs

  • Virus - Subway: Prevented players getting on top of benches they shouldn't

  • SDNL: Added client side prediction when carrying an object with the grav glove (fixes grav glove lag when carrying)

  • SDNL - Meadows: Physics crates now respawn when there is not enough of them anymore
  • Minigolf - Forest: Fixed sky in Forest being dark

  • Fixed SDK maps not loading sometimes on first time play if you click on host quickly

macdguy continued going through long standing bugs in preparation for the 1.0 release. He fixed bugs in SDNL, Minigolf, Bingo, Trivia, the Arcade games in the boardwalk, as well as issues with the first person camera. He also worked on the Shooting Gallery in the Arcade, added a exterior to the Virus map, Hospital, and centered the VR Camera.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on the Minigolf map, Dino Drive, working on polish and lighting.

Sketchman worked on optimizations and fixing bugs in preparation for the 1.0 release.

Wheezwer worked with Makeship and wrote the changelog for the next update.
