BUILD 1.0.6 IS NOW LIVE

PATCH 1.0.6 focuses on the post match ceremony, new achievements and rewards, but also brings a bunch of fixes. Here's what we did in detail:

01 - FRAG ANNIVERSARY ACHIEVEMENTS & MXP REWARDS

Introducing the Frag Anniversary achievements, which will count your total online frags performance:

 • BAD ASS (50 frags, rewarded with 500 MXP)
 • BUTTKICKER (100 frags, rewarded with 1,000 MXP)
 • TAG TAKER (500 frags, rewarded with 5,000 MXP)
 • WIDOWMAKER (1,000 frags, rewarded with 20,000 MXP)
 • WMD (5,000 frags, rewarded with 100,000 MXP)
 • GENOCIDE (10,000 frags, rewarded with 200,000 MXP)
 • APOCALYPSE (20,000 frags rewarded with 400,000 MXP)

And of course all this MXP can be used to further customize your char with shiny armor and camouflage skins.

02 - POST MATCH CEREMONY SCREEN

The screen after each match (ceremony screens) will now list all achievements and MXP sources earned during a match. This may sound like a little change, but you'll find out that it totally changes the post match ceremony, making it much more rewarding and transparent.

03 - MORE ACHIEVEMENTS AND MXP REWARDS

We added some more achievements like the e.g. the Avenger, an achievement you get when you take revenge on someone who killed you before your most recent respawn. Also, a flawless victory will now grant you 500 MXP extra reward.

FULL LIST OF ALL 60 ACHIEVEMENTS
http://steamcommunity.com/stats/324810/achievements

04 - FIXED TEXTURE STREAMING

Activating texture streaming caused crashes since the latest builds. This was fixed.

05 - FIXED WRONG RANK DISPLAY

When you launched the game for the first time, your rank was displayed as "?" instead of "recruit". This was fixed.

06 - FIXED STOLEN CELL INDICATOR

The blue cell indicator didn't flash, if the blue team's cell was stolen. This was fixed.

BUILD 1.0.5 AVAILABLE

In preparation of our upcoming Pro League Tournaments, #TOXIKK 1.0.5 brings multiple further improvements, fixes and features. Let's take a look at what we did in detail:

01: IMPROVED CONNECTIVITY

The Quick Join feature was affected by a bug that caused a "No Server Found" error under certain conditions. This should no longer happen. Also, if loading/connecting took very long, you could get stuck in a connection cycle. This was fixed.

NOTE TO ADMINS: The ToxikkServerLauncher tool now starts all dedicated servers WITHOUT SteamSockets, as they are causing connection issues. Make sure you are forwarding game AND query port now, if your server is behind a NAT router. Listen servers (direct match hosting) now have an optional menu item, were you can toggle SteamSockets.

02: INITIAL SPAWNS OF POWER PICK-UPS DELAYED

Something that should've been done before, but simply slipped under the radar: The spawns of all mega pick-ups is now delayed, to not give those players an unfair advantage that initially spawn close to a power pick-up. Also, many respawn times for items were slightly adjusted.

03: HEALTH AND ARMOR DECAY

Advanced balancing measures: Health above 150 units now decays with a rate of 1 unit per second back to 150. Same goes for armor above 100.

04: VIDEO SETTINGS

Video options were removed from DefaultGame.ini. So next time we do changes to that ini, your video options shouldn't reset.

05: LEAVING AN ARCH RIVALS MATCH AFFECTS YOUR ELO SCORE

Leaving a competitive Arch Rivals match before it's over will affect your score as if you've lost the match.

06: FIX - NO MORE 3 DUELISTS

There was a bug that could cause to have three active duelists in Arch Rivals game mode under certain conditions. This should no longer happen.

07: ELO SCORE ADJUSTMENTS

The way your Elo score is calculated is adjusted. Also, if you haven't played any competitive matches before, the way your MXP and SC is converted into an initial Elo rank was slightly adjusted.

08: SPECTATOR MODE - PRECISION IMPROVEMENT

Spectators now get a lot more precise replication of the spectated players movement and aim rotation.

09: SPECTATOR MODE - HIT MARKER DISPLAY

Spectators can now see the visual hitmarker of spectated players (for improved verification of hit/miss situations).

10: SPECTATOR MODE - FASTER UI UPDATES

Info about e.g. ammo count get updated faster to reach a more precise replication.

11: SPECTATOR MODE - NOW USES INDIVIDUAL FIELD OF VIEW

The spectator mode now uses the FOV you set in your video options. It is used independently from the FOV used by the player you're spectating.

12: NEW DIALOGUE: STEAM SERVICE OFFLINE

If you're trying to connect to the game, but the Steam servers go down (for whatever reason beyond our control), you now get a specific messages.

13: SOME POWER PICK-UPS REMOVED FROM COMPETITIVE AR MODE

The Speed Shot and Max Damage pick-ups were removed from the competitive AR game mode. In most cases they were replaced with other items.

14: PICK UP BASES NOW PULSE

Five seconds before any item (on a base) respawns, the light on the base will start to pulse. So even respawns of items that don't have a respawn counter can be anticipated, if you observe this pulsing light. This feature was already active in offline games, but now also works in online games.

15: DRAGONEER (FLAMETHROWER) CHANGES

Flamethrower alt-fire charging takes 2s now (instead of 1s) and 200dmg max (instead of 250).

16: UI FIXES

Various UI fixes were done like, e.g. the Jet Pack indicator and the way active players are listed pre-match etc.

TOXIKK 1.0.4 RELEASED

Another major update and this one was a real bitch: Originally announced for early October, 1.0.4 had to be delayed multiple times as things just didn't work out as intended. Anyway, all hail the new build and the tons of fresh stuff it brings...

01 - ARCH RIVALS (AR) GAME MODE

AR is a strictly competitive game mode where two players fight each other. The player who reaches 10 kills first, wins and competes against the next contender. AR holds lists of contenders, spectators active players and also the new global Elo leaderboards.

02 - ELO RANKING

With Arch Rivals (see above), we also introduce a new leaderboard based on your real in-game performance using an Elo rating system. Every player gets an initial Elo score after your next online match (based on your previous performance, i.e. SC, number of played games and MXP), but you'll need to play AR to get a reputable position on the Elo leaderboards.

03 - NEW SPECTATOR MODE

TOXIKK now features a fully fleshed out spectator mode with all the features required to support competitive gaming. Spectators can browse through the available spectator cams with the mouse-wheel, switch between first- and third-person perspective [press "V"]. You can toggle between active and spectator via the pause menu (i.e. you no longer need to dis- and reconnect from/to the server, to switch your state). In free cam mode, a list of all active players and spectators is shown on the right side.

04 - WEAPON NETCODE IMPROVEMENTS

Weapon netcode should be a lot more solid and reliable now.

05 - GLOBAL POSITION

The global position in the main menu is now based on your global Elo ranking rather than on your collected MXP.

06 - TEAM AND ARCH RIVALS SCORE DISPLAY

The team game modes and the Arch Rival mode now have an additional score display in the info view for spectators (or players who are about to respawn after death).

07 - NEXT MAP VOTING LIST

Uninstalled workshop maps are no longer marked as unavailable for full game players, as they can be re-downloaded.

08 - VOTING LIST STRUCTURE

If you host your own server(s): The voting list structure was changed in the MapList.ini files. You can now define multiple voting lists and load them by adding "?GameVoteList=MyVoteList" to your server launchoptions.

09 - TOXIKK SERVER LAUNCHER 1.6

Also for people running their own server: The TOXIKK Server launcher tool is now up to version 1.6 and has support for adding your own vote lists and defining different botskills.

10 - MUSIC FIXES

There was a bug that prevented the music from being triggered correctly. Also, when in drone view, self damage and gasp sounds weren't working correctly. All of this was fixed.

11 - WEAPON TWEAK - STINGRAY

The fire rate of the Stingray was increased and the damage per hit was reduced. Damage on vehicles was slightly reduced.

12 - WEAPON TWEAK - CERBERUS

The Cerberus causes a bit more damage on vehicles now.

13 - TEAM SCOREBOARD UPGRADE

The team scoreboard now also has an own column to list spectators online.

14 - IRC CHAT CLIENT FIX

IRC could crash the game if there was no internet connection available. This was fixed.

15 - PREVENTING CONFIG FILES FROM DELETION

All config files got lost during summer/winter DST switch (a bug that seems to affect quite a lot of Unreal Engine games). Our TOXIKK Steam launcher will now always try to recover/repair the affected files automatically. Hat tip to Predat0r for that fix.

16 - DEMO RECORDING FIX

Firing the Cerberus made recorded demos crash because of an infinite loop recursion. Though demo recording is still not officially supported, this bug was fixed. Hat tip to Chatouille.

17 - FREE EDITION - MAP UNAVAILABLE INDICATION

Previouls FEPs (Free Edition players) only got a disconnected message when a map was voted that wasn't part of the FE. Now, they get a proper message that voted content is not part of the FE.

18 - ENDGAME PLAYER POSE FIXESS

Fixed some camera and character pose related issues in the endgame ceremony.

Hope you like changes and fixes... and as usual, if you want discuss the current update, best place to do so is our Discord Chat server at: http://chat.toxikk.com

TOXIKK 1.0.2 OUT NOW

After two weeks out in the wild, TOXIKK gets its second update. All hail 1.0.2 Vanilla, the update to finally transcend TOXIKK into an entity of pure light and love. Let's take a look at what we did here:

01 - SKILL CLASS (SC) SYSTEM LIBERATED

The Skill Class (SC) based matchmaking system was liberated a lot. Instead of grouping various SC ranges into individual groups, SC matchmaking is now primarily used to distinguish between "A league" (SC 8-12) and "B league" (SC 1-7). Furthermore, even this last restriction can be overruled, if a player disables "SC Matchmaking" in the newly added Quick Join preferences (see below).

02 - NEW QUICK JOIN PREFERENCE: SC MATCHMAKING

SC (Skill Class) based matchmaking can now be deactivated in the Quick Join options. Simply go Multiplayer -> Quick Join to toggle SC matchmaking on or off (it's on by default). WARNING: Disabling SC restrictions will send you to servers open to all Skill Classes. Prepare to get destroyed by veteran AFPS players. You can turn SC based matchmaking on again, whenever you feel like you had enough of being stomped on. ;)

03 - NEW QUICK JOIN PREFERENCE: FRIENDS ONLY

This is primarily interesting for Free Editions players: You can now force the client to primarily look for servers with friends. However, it is important that your friends either play on a server of your skill class range (if you have SC matchmaking enabled) or play on servers without SC restrictions.

04 - CERBERUS (ROCKET LAUNCHER): SPLASH DAMAGE RADIUS REDUCED

We heard you. Though, please be aware that the Cerberus is intentionally a strong weapon (pretty much like in many old-school APFS titles the RL was slightly (read: heavily) overpowered). We already nerfed it a LOT since the first Early Access days, where it was OP to an almost ridiculous level. With all the complaints, we were now ready to give it another damping and reduced its splash damage radius by 10%. Let's see what you guys think about the change. But keep in mind that it will always remain a powerful weapon (hence its name) which is not supposed to be entirely levelled with e.g. the Stingray.

05 - RAVAGER DAMAGE CHANGED

The Ravager, our beloved melee weapon, was slightly changed in the way it inflicts damage. The sampling rate when the active drill hits an opponent was increased, so was the damage itself. A bit hard to explain... best if you try it out yourself.

06 - 16 NEW CAMOUFLAGE SKINS

Yup, there now is a complete Zoo of camouflage skins. Have fun unlocking them. 1.0.2 also carries the new and founder exclusive skins, although these will not be available until we've sent out the keys to the founder (which will happen later this week).

07 - MAP ENHANCEMENTS: GANESHA AND ARTIFACT

Both maps received visual overhauls (and also some more collision fixes). While the upgraded look on Artifact may not be all that eye-catching, you'll notice the improved lighting on Ganesha instanly. Hope you like it.

08 - IMPROVED CHARACTER & VEHICLE VISIBILITY

Character and vehicle visibility was improved a lot, as we added a subtle self-illumination to them. They now strike out more from the background, while still looking like a natural element of the game world. Self illumination also increases, the further away a character or vehicle is.

09 - SERVERS FOR UP TO 16 PLAYERS ADDED

We added some servers for up to 16 players to allow for some big battles in e.g. the Twin Peaks maps.

10 - GLOBAL CHAT MESSENGER UPDATED

Toxikk's global messenger tool (the thing that you can click in the menus in the lower right of the screen) was greatly improved and should now finally work as intended. If you feel disturbed by global chat in your log, remember that you can disable global channel traffic in the game options.

11 - PLAYER BANS APPLIED

As usually, a bunch of convicted hackers were banned from the official servers. This did not happen via VAC ban, but using our internal tools. If you want to report hackers, please do so on our Discord server in the support channel. Please provide as much evidence as possible.

12 - MISC TECH FIXES

1.0.2 also brings some minor fixes e.g. to the Cube map distribution in the maps (visual fix), team matches in Contract mode happened partially playing on the wrong team (not the team that issued the contract), and you no longer need to release direction keys (W,A,S,D) after a respawn, to continue moving around.

Hope you like the changes... and as usual, if you want discuss the current update, best place to do so is our Discord Chat server at: http://chat.toxikk.com

APPLYING BUILD 1.0.2

We're currently updating the servers to TOXIKK 1.0.2. The server should be back up within 30 minutes. The update is also now available for download in the Steam library.

BUILD 1.0.1 HAS LANDED

After an exciting launch weekend and with the Early Access tag removed last Monday, we're now ready to deploy our first patch to the live build, where we tried to realize as much player feedback as possible. All hail build 1.01. Let's take a look at what we did here:

01: SC (SKILL CLASS) FILTER FOR SERVER BROWSER

People complained about not being able to find SC matching servers quickly in the server browser, but had to browse through the whole long list. We now included an SC filter which allows to display only servers with matching SCs. Simply click on MY SC in the lower right of the server browser to list all matching servers.

02: IMPROVED CONNECTIVITY FOR FREE EDITION

We had some reports about FE players not being able to Quick Join. Please bear with us... the whole setup is very new and will need adjustments over time. However, connectivity on Quick Join should've much improved now.

03: PREFER STEAM FRIENDS ON QUICK JOIN

Free Edition Players complained about not being able to play with friends and about not having a server browser at all. The Quick Join mechanism was now changed to always prefer servers with friends. Also, you can use Steam's server browser to connect to matches or the external server browser from our Steam Workshop.

04: MAP CALIBER/TUTORIAL IMPROVEMENTS

We had complaints that Caliber (the tutorial and time trial map) could not be completed. We've now improved the in-map documentation and also pointed out the alternate route to complete the tutorial using the Phantom assault bomber vehicle (which needs to be repaired first, to open the hangar cage).

05: MATCHMAKING IMPROVEMENTS

Matchmaking should now be a lot smoother process as we re-adjusted the algorithms a bit. We're now looking for servers with Steam friends, changed the priority of the ping and also made sure you're not be thrown into a server that was already almost at capacity.

06: BLACK SCREEN AFTER MAP TRAVEL

Occasional black screens after map travels should no longer appear (fingerscrossed). If you still encounter any of these, please report them on the forum.

07: FREE EDITION NOT MARKING MAPS AS LOCKED

Not included maps of the Free Edition were not visibly marked in UI. This has now changed and you can clearly see what maps you can join and what maps are unavailable. This should help avoid confusion, why sometimes players of the FE were disconnected seemingly random.

08: SERVER BROWSER UI FIXES

The server browser used to act a little strange when the mouse pointer hovered over servers that were filtered out. This should be fixed now.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON BUILD 1.01

The overall experience should be a lot smoother now than directly after release (especially for players of the Free Edition). We also promised 16 slot CC servers with this update, but I learned that they are not a direct part of the update, but a server configuration thing (which is going to happen soon).

That's it for now. Have fun... and let us know what you think.

SERVER UPDATES

We're currently installing Build 1.01 to the servers and updating the client. Servers will be available again within less than 60 minutes.

FREE EDITION FAQ

Q1: What is the FREE EDITION of TOXIKK?

The chart below (which is also posted on the store page in the "About this Game" section) should already answer most of your questions. It's a straight feature comparison between the FULL GAME (FG) and the FREE EDITION (FE).

* LIMITED AMOUNT OF MAPS
** IF RELEVANT TO INCLUDED MAPS

It basically boils down to this: The Free Edition of Toxikk features the full core experience of the game and has no competitive disadvantages versus the full game. It let's you play TOXIKK for free, for as long and as often as you like. So, in many aspects it is like a shareware version of the game or a demo.

Q2: Where's the catch?

There is no catch. We, Reakktor Studios, have worked over 3 years on this project and would hate to see our game sink in insignificance. Toxikk is competing against companies that have millions of shiny dollars to sink in marketing. We had only a fraction of that... and wanted to put it into the game's development only, to fulfill our dream of creating a classic Arena FPS.

Q3: How is the FREE EDITION not F2P?

FREE TO PLAY is giving the base game away for free and then LETTING YOU PURCHASE LITTLE CHUNKS OF IT FOREVER (cosmetic and/or gameplay affecting items). For many reasons, we have a deep antipathy against micro-transaction fueled business models.

So, if we let you FRAG LIKE IT'S 1999, why not also give you a demo like it's 1999? The idea behind shareware and demos may be a bit out of fashion (just like Arena FPS in general), but there really isn't anything more transparent to let you experience a game. And if you like it, you pay once and get the FULL GAME with ALL its features, customization options etc.

Q4: If the FREE EDITION is like a demo, why not call it a demo?

The term DEMO has a defined meaning on STEAM that comes with specific restrictions. E.g. people who play a demo on STEAM cannot play online against people who own the full game. Which is obviously far from optimal for a multiplayer game.

Plus, the Free Edition really is more than a demo, as it features the full core experience, has no competitive disadvantages and even let's you participate in the leaderboards, achievements etc. All of these features are usually not available in demos on Steam.

Q5: The FREE EDITION has no Server Browser?

Many big current MP games come without a server browser. It's not an exotic concept to rely on matchmaking & "Quick Join" to find matches. However, we agree that a server browser adds an additional layer of transparency and comfort to any MP game (which is why the full version of TOXIKK has an in-game server browser). The Free Edition lacks a few comfort features (see comparison chart) which you only get in the full game.

If you insist on a server browser, you can either use the external browser from our STEAM Workshop (thanks to Predath0r) or use the server browser that's built into your Steam client. You can find it via: Restart Steam -> Top left corner, View -> Servers -> Change Filters -> Select Toxikk as a Game.

Q6: I'm having connectivity problems with the Free Edition. Why?

Please bear with us. The game only just released and from our experience during the Early Access Beta, we weren't fully prepared for thousands of people being online at the same moment on our servers. We're still tweaking the infra-structure, so it CAN HAPPEN that you need a few tries to get on a server (with the Free Edition) right now. We'll also release a patch tomorrow or on Thursday latest, to further improve the situation.

IMPORTANT: Also, IF these problems occur, you may want to try the trick with the external server browser(s) (see Q5, above).

Thanks for reading and we hope you guys enjoy both, the full and the free edition of the game. If you have further questions regarding the game, please post them on one our forums or visit us to talk to the community and to us on our Discord chat server at http://chat.toxikk.com
