Transmute!

'Enter the Synapse' free update out January 6th!

Boss Rematches!
- Enter the Synaptic Network and battle smarter, faster, and more dangerous versions of your favorite bosses!
- Earn the ability to turn repair (save) stations into teleport destinations!

Updated Boss Fights!
- Most bosses in the games have had a giant heaping of balance, new moves, added animations to make them feel more alive and to telegraph moves better, added sound effects, and adjusted to lessen wild difficulty spikes. (But have no worry, because the rematch versions are even harder than the old base versions!!)

New Augments, New Weapon!
- Equip the new 'Recoiler' augment to completely negate getting knocked backwards from shooting an enemy or wall.
- Find the 'Particle Coil' item to unlock the ability to switch weapons! Swap on the fly between the standard, short-range beam attack and the new, long-range particle blaster attack!

Better World Design, Platforming Changes!
- Better overall world progression, with a mindfulness towards how open the game can be, ensuring most players won't end up completely lost, stuck, or in a place they shouldn't be in yet!
- Harder areas are more clearly marked, so you know what you're getting yourself into!
- Many areas on the main path of the game have been completely re-balanced, annoying enemies redesigned, excessive enemies removed from platforming sections, and fairer platforming challenges that are more fun to complete!

Updated Map Tools!
- More custom map makers! The limit for each color has been upped, and 2 new colors added. Mark important NPCs and Synaptic Network entrances!

Look for the update out January 6th, and for a full detailed patch notes to drop alongside it! There are way too many small changes to list out here!

Patch Notes for December 20th Update!

This is a quick update to deal with some of the most common feedback / grievances about the game since launch. It also sets the groundwork for our huge content / feedback / polish / bug squashing updating due out January 6th 2025!

  • HUD augment equip cost cut in half.
  • Less Red Flux lost on death when you are out of extra cores, from 50% down to 30%.
  • Fixed a bug where a few sound effects didn’t scale properly with audio settings.
  • Background elements now appear dimmed, to make it easier to tell what is in the foreground and a wall / hazard, and what is in the background.
  • Fixed a bug where you could be forever trapped in Network locations. (Worst case scenario Force Respawn now works there, full fix coming in our next update!)
  • Optimized game file size.

Rebel Transmute Soundtrack is Released!

You can now purchase and download the Rebel Transmute soundtrack on sale for just $3.39! Some of the tracks are touched up a bit and extended from the version in-game, and I'm really excited to finally get this out there!

"The eclectic original soundtrack to Rebel Transmute, a sprawling 2D action-exploration epic! Enjoy ambient soundscapes and heart-pounding battle themes all wrapped up in a post-rock sci-fi score."

Purchase here: Rebel Transmute Soundtrack

In addition I am hard at work on our next patch, which should fix some lingering bugs, polish up the core experience of the game, and even add a few new goodies. Look out for it in the next few weeks!

Patch Notes for March 18th Hotfix

  • fix for an interaction between the spin ability and bombs, allowing players to clip into walls and objects (such as conveyor belts)
  • adds what is hopefully the final room map data that was missing from the map screen
  • item and augment descriptions now scroll if they don’t fit in the description box (for pixel art fonts only, HD font fix for this still to come)
  • fix for some missing collision geometry in a Sunken Basin room
  • visual fix for some HUD elements drawing when they shouldn’t (namely during room transitions)
  • fix for water bugs ending up in the air or underwater in some instances
  • updated some computers that would read out the same outdated text
  • added collision to the sides of screens, so players can’t walk off into the unknown if a room doesn’t have a left or right wall
  • fix for some sfx overlapping leading to an increase in volume (flames, shooting an enemy with the wave blaster, etc.)
  • fix for a bug involving the player’s hitbox shrinking when recoiling from a shot, causing some players to get stuck in ceilings
  • added more variability to various combat sounds to avoid things sounding monotonous
  • fix for a crash related to the friendly Armadillapede companion you can get trying to attack enemies that already died
  • the friendly Armadillapede can now swim (previously they were struggling)
  • screenshots now work on Steam (through hitting F12)

Patch Notes for March 16th Hotfix

- fix for a visual bug where Moon would stop ‘wall clinging’ when charging a Thruster dash or while static on a wall
- fix for a puzzle room in the Abandoned Quarry so the puzzle has a wider solvable time window
- fix for an incorrect hitbox on the Leaping Husk’s (Quarry enemy) attack that led to players taking damage when they shouldn’t
- fix for a bug that let players potentially kill a boss in the Arboretum without triggering the start of the fight
- fix for a major bug blocking main story progression if you saved the Arboretum subsystem to turn on last (just re-trigger that story beat to get your save file back on the right track)
- changed button sprites for the subsystem puzzles to make it clearer when they are active or not
- fix for a certain NPC in the Subways repeating dialog if you left the room and returned

Rebel Transmute Launches on Kickstarter!

Check out the project, view the new trailer, get a look behind the scenes, and back the game! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evan-tor/rebel-transmute

That's right, Rebel Transmute is finally live on Kickstarter!! I've spent a month or so now preparing to launch, cutting a new trailer, cooking up some exciting rewards (you can help me design some enemies or an NPC!), and getting the demo ship-shape for all the new traffic.

That being said, the demo has been updated and is brand new! Encompassing a fully reworked first hour of the game, as well as an additional Boss Challenge Mode where you can fight the Tortured Matriarch Carapace as many times as you like to get the best time! So make sure to check out the demo page, or update you current demo download to get the new content! (The old demo has been discontinued, especially since its not as representative of the current game, which is much more polished.)

There will be speedrun competitions, live Q&As, and some other fun goodies planned so it'll be an eventful month!

Dev Update

I've also spent some time this month polishing up the Abandoned Quarry zone, with new enemies and platforming hazards! Check out some of the enemy designs below:

That's all for now! Once again please consider backing or sharing the project, keep an eye out for an upcoming speedrun competition for the demo, and have a great month!

July Dev Update: Kickstarter in 3 Weeks!

Hey everyone! It's been a few months, but rest assured I've been hard at work on the next steps for Rebel Transmute. I've also had some setbacks, as I caught Covid during my week off, and am still slowly rebuilding the energy I had pre-Covid. That being said, Rebel Transmute is now moving full steam ahead!

Kickstarter

I'll start off with the big news: Rebel Transmute will be launching on Kickstarter in just 3 weeks!!! On August 30th (Tuesday) I'll be pressing the launch button and inviting all of you to help me fund and take part in the final stint of development. Just click the link below to be taken to the pre-launch page, where you can follow to be notified of when the project goes live.

Other News

In other news, development has progressed steadily, and I'm really happy with the current state of the game. The main story is completed, and crucially the first area of the game, the Foray Surface Labs, is complete and I'm super happy with the visuals, secrets, enemies, and NPCs in this area. I'm also halfway through the second area you explore in Rebel Transmute, the Abandoned Quarry. (If it sounds like I'm working on areas I've already gone over, that's because I am! These areas had a bare minimum pass already, now I'm finalizing them for release, which takes time!)

I've also tweaked a lot of overarching systems like making death less financially punishing but still intereseting, giving currency (Red Flux) more uses, and fleshing out lots of Augments. Looking ahead, work on the game has taken a slight pause though as I focus on getting the Kickstarter up and running, and will likely stay paused through September so I can make sure the game gets the funding it needs.

I'll leave y'all with a look at some of the new enemy designs for the Abandoned Quarry! Can't wait to see how players deal with these rock behemoths. (And their fun variety of attacks!)

I'll have an update next month when the Kickstarter launches, and from then on it'll be bi-monthly updates, with more frequent updates posted to the Kickstarter page. Thanks for following along, I hope I can count on your support, whether that's backing or just spreading the word.

Until next time,
Evan
