Trapper's Delight 0.99 Released

Hey everyone! It's new update day! This patch brings with it a whole load of new traps and tricks to play around with, so check it out. Update notes below...

New Traps

Puncher Trap
This trap shoots out a giant novelty-sized boxing glove which punches players away. The counterpart for the grabber trap.

Mine
A hidden explosive trap, this explodes just like the bomb trap when stepped on after a short delay. If you are quick to react it is possible to get out of the way, but as a hidden trap which explodes nearby traps this opens up some new possibilities.

Slow
A hidden trap which works similarly to the freeze trap. When revealed it slows any player that steps on it for a few seconds, making any upcoming obstacles harder to get past.

Speed
A visible floor tile which is the counterpart of the slow trap. Can be placed as an incentive to be the first to reach, as only one player can activate the speed powerup contained within. The first player to step on the tile will receive a temporary speed boost, potentially allowing them to get past obstacles (or just take themselves out faster!)

Projectile Shield
Similar to the speed trap, this is a floor tile which grants a boon to the first player that steps over it. This player will be given a shield which will let them survive a projectile hit and will then fade away.

Clear Floor
This can be used to will remove any trap from a floor tile and replace it with a safe zone. This safe zone cannot be built on but it will gradually fade back into a normal floor tile after a few turns. This tile will only be awarded when players are failing to beat a level.

Visible Flipper
This is a minor rework with how flippers work. There is now a new variant which is a visible flipper variant which will appear alongside the hidden flipper trap. The flipper trap is renamed to “Hidden Flipper” and this new trap is just called “Flipper” trap.

Other Changes

  • Improved visuals for player elimination, players can now explode in a comical fashion depending on how they are eliminated
  • Improved visuals for the existing projectile traps
  • Improved UI for trap selection - traps now appear in a more consistent order
  • Improved UI for level selection - levels should now correctly appear in alphabetical order
  • Renamed "Ghost Bridge" to "Hidden Bridge" for consistency
  • Changed the name of the old "Flipper" trap to "Hidden Flipper"

Bug Fixes

  • Improved trap detonation code to fix issues where permanent holes can appear in the world
  • Improved grabber/puncher logic to work a lot more consistently, especially in online games
  • Many other small fixes

Quick progress update

Hello everyone!

I was hoping to get the next update out this week but a few major bugs are still kicking around that need fixing. Hoping to get this out as soon as possible though.

In the meantime, I do want to show something else that I have been looking to add in this new update. Along with all of the additions that I mentioned in the previous update, I have also been working with on placeable shield powerup tile!

Similar to the speed trap, this is a floor tile which grants a boon to the first player that steps over it. This player will be given a shield which will let them survive a projectile hit and will then fade away.

Stay tuned for more updates coming soon!

What’s coming next for Trapper’s Delight?

Work is continuing at a good pace for the next version of Trapper’s Delight and this will include a whole host of new traps to play around with. These are all still pretty early but I want to give you all a quick rundown on what is being worked on.

Puncher Trap

This trap is basically a reverse grabber trap which pushes players away. As part of this update, a lot of work has gone into improving the grabber/puncher trap logic so these traps will also be a lot more consistent in online games going forward.

Mine

A trap intended as a hidden super trap, this explodes just like the bomb trap when stepped on after a short delay.

Clear Floor

One of the main issues that has come up is that there aren't enough ways to make levels easier without exploding large chunks of the level with bombs. So for this next version, there will be a new trap which will remove any trap from a floor tile and replace it with a safe zone.

Along with all of these new traps and tiles, there will be a whole host of fixes and improvements coming in the next update. So stay tuned for this!

0.9.8 Patch Notes - Challenge Mode Out Now

Hello everyone!

Today is new patch day! This new patch brings with it a brand new game mode - Challenges!

This is a brand new game mode which lets you test your trapping skills against a 40 specifically designed challenge levels. In these levels you will have to use your platforming skills and clever trap placement to get to the goal. Each level has three stars to collect, one for completing the level, another for collecting all of the coins and a final challenge for beating the target goal time. In total there are 120 challenges to complete!

The challenge mode also brings with it three new “Guard” enemy characters, who will be doing their best to stop you completing these new challenges!

Each of these three guard types has their own unique behaviour, and they are all affected by traps, providing a new unique puzzle element to the game. So you will be able to put your thinking hat on to work out how to get past them using well placed traps, or use quick reactions to shift around them.

It is also now possible create your own challenge levels with the in-game level editor and share them on the Steam Workshop.
