Tray Racers! Old World Update & Tray Design Contest Results
BOO! That’s right racers, a new update has dropped today, the spookiest day of the year! 🎃 In the Old World update v1.3 you can soar through buried cities, chase ghosts in the weekly races and even become a ghost with a new Supporter’s Pack character! 👻 That’s not all, we have now added the amazing tray designs inspired by three winning entries to our Tray Design Contest. 🔥 You can play for FREE on Steam and Nintendo Switch, so gather your friends around the campfire and get ~ s p o o k y ~!
The new Buried Cities biome is all about getting up high with huge abandoned skyscrapers you can jump between! Some cities have been reclaimed by lush vegetation too, so be ready to weave your way through overgrown offices, fly over rooftops and slide under the skeletal remains. To make it easier to race your friends through the biome you can now get the room host to set up custom biomes by visiting the map in the Camp or accessing the race options in the menu. Henry made new music to go with the cities too so keep an ear out!! 🎶
Alongside the new biome we also have a new feature in the Weekly Races, GHOSTS!!!! 👻👻👻 When you set a new best time on any of the Weekly Race leaderboards you can now upload your ghost for other players to race. You can switch between racing your own ghost, the top ghost on the leaderboard or the next rival right above you! We have had so much fun racing each other’s ghosts and chasing that spooky trail down the track.

Zoid with an awesome campfire design we all loved! The campfire has always been the place people gather around while waiting in the lobby and so putting it on a tray is genius! 🔥 You can find Zoid @Ziobderg on X (formerly known as twitter) and @Ziob on YouTube.
Louise Kirby with a super sunny and chunky paintbrush style design. The perfect counterpart to Zoid’s mellow night time design, the vibrant yellow pattern on a sky blue background gives off great vibes, it is super simple and eye-catching as well! 🌞 You can find Louise @louisekirbydesign on Instagram, LouiseKirbyDesign on Facebook and @LouiseKirby_ on X (formerly known as twitter).
Finally we have a rainbow splatter tray design from 9 year old Howie Jamieson. The lines and paint splats look so fast, it may not actually speed you up on the slopes but it will definitely make you feel faster when you see this tray whizzing through the air. It is so colourful just like the fabric in the Camp and village houses throughout the game!
Thank you again so much for all the entries to the design contest, it was really fun seeing them and getting inspired to create new tray designs for the game. You can find them in the Style Editor so be sure to show them off when you are next chilling in the Camp or surfing the slopes!

We recently announced this shiny new logo Caitlin made, which now appears at the start of the game! We also switched our Instagram and TikTok accounts over from Tray Racers to Bit Loom so we can share Tray Racers content as well as all the new things we are making. We always get excited when people share their reactions and comments to our posts so follow and let us know which new projects you like best!

Additions
The new Buried Cities biome is filled with tall skyscrapers to fly between and weave through, with an overgrown variant adding lush vegetation to the remnants of the Old World.
There are 3 new tray designs in the style editor inspired by the Tray Design Contest winners. The campfire design by Zoid, sunburst design by Louise Kirby and rainbow splats by Howie Jamieson. Thank you for all the submissions!
Weekly Race ghosts can now be uploaded when setting a new best time, you can choose to race against your own ghost, the next ghost in the leaderboard or the top ghost.
There is a spooky new Ghost character option for those who own the Supporter’s Pack.
The host can now select which biomes are in the track from the Camp, either by interacting with the map or in the Race Options.
A new music track has been added to the game, so keep an ear out!

Hey racers! After taking some time to rest post-launch we are excited to be back on the slopes bringing you the latest Tray Racers! news.
First off we are hosting a tray design contest! You can design your very own tray and send it in for a chance to have it inspire a new tray design for Tray Racers! All you need to do is use the following template to create your design and send it to tray@bitloomgames.com along with the artist’s name or handle.
Submissions are open from 1st August 2023 until 31st August 2023, once submissions have closed we will announce the top design and get to work putting it in the game for everyone to change up their style with. After some much needed rest we are excited to start sharing what we are up to with you all. We plan to show more work in progress updates going forward and not just for future Tray Racers! updates. We have begun playing around with some new ideas at Bit Loom that we can’t wait for you to see, even though they are very early in development! For now though we will leave you with this little sneak peek at what we have been prototyping for Tray Racers!

Did someone say Toad Racers!? As part of the Green Game Jam 2023 we have added a hopping new game mode: Toad and Seek 🔎🐸 We want to highlight the real life Harlequin Toad amphibians which are sadly endangered, that’s why the Green Game Jam is fundraising to support conservation efforts protecting Harlequin Toads and their habitat in the Amazon, which is amazing! 🌟
Gather your friends and say hello to the toad in the Camp to hop into a round of Toad and Seek. But wait! Instead of trying to set the fastest time you’ll need to put your tray skills to the test, finding and escorting as many little toads to the finish line before time runs out. The new mode takes place in the lush mangrove biome filled with ferns and rivers, this biome also pops up in regular races too so keep an eye out! 👀
That’s not all, check out the changing room for the toadally awesome new style options we’ve added to the base game! Including a very cute tshirt and tray design featuring the Harlequin Toad mascot! ✨🐸✨

Harlequin toads, also called Atelopus, are a vibrant group of amphibians. They come in orange, red, green, yellow, brown, black, and sometimes even purple, earning them the nickname “clown frogs”. The smallest species measure about an inch in length.
There are more than 100 Harlequin Toad species distributed throughout 11 countries in Central and South America, from Costa Rica to Bolivia, and eastward through the Amazon basin onto the Guiana Shield. They are on the brink of extinction!
In some places, harlequin toads have been imbued with tremendous cultural value. In Panama, the Panamanian Golden Toad (Atelopus Zeteki) is the national animal, found on lottery tickets and artwork in markets, and celebrated once a year on Panamanian Golden Toad Day - Aug. 14th.

Additions
Toad and Seek is a new game mode you can start by visiting the toad in the Camp.
The lush mangrove biome featured in the Toad Mode is now included in regular races.
There are new Toad themed style options included in the base game.
Major Fixes/Tweaks
New animation and model for hover flowers in Mangrove biome.
Minor Fixes/Tweaks
Mangrove trees can now intersect creating more dense roots to weave through.
Fix issue with sound effects playing when race first loads.
Fix issue with FOV being incorrect when teleported to podium sequence.
Note that you may need to restart Steam for the update to download automatically.

🔥🌋🔥 Dropping like it's HOT, the Tray Racers! Volcano Update! 🔥🌋🔥
Enter the Fiery Volcano Zone and get ready for some sizzling tray on lava action in the first Tray Racers! content update! The new Volcano Biome adds even more chaos to race tracks with a load of new obstacles to encounter like lava rivers that are so hot they bounce you into the air and huge tornadoes that spin you off course 🌪
As well as changing up races, the new Volcano Update adds some hot new cosmetic options to the base game such as the mohawk hair style, volcano shirt design and the bandana face mask! ✨ If you love to tray but want more than just the classic wooden board to surf the sands on, the Supporter’s Pack now includes the animated Lava Tray skin! 😲🌋

Major Fixes/Tweaks
Change the countdown in the Camp lobby to start when the majority of players have readied up, rather than all players needing to ready up. (Changed in Steam Ver. 1.0a)
Optimise load times of Cave biome.
Fix issues that could cause an infinite load screen - joining a lobby just as it changes state or disconnecting from the internet during the load sequence.
Fix issue where grind rails would stop working if respawning just before hitting them.
When voting to end the race the “confirm” dialogue will now time out, rather than waiting for the Host’s input.
The “Waiting for Players” state now has a timeout so players don’t get stuck waiting at the start line for late joining players to load the race. (Changed in Steam Ver. 1.0b)
Minor Fixes/Tweaks
Fix issue that would cause boost particles to appear infinitely when respawning near the Camellos.
Player Nameplates now display correct capitalisation.
Fix issue where a lobby had an extremely rare chance of being stuck in the Camp.
Known Issues
The “Refresh” button in the Weekly Races does not properly attempt to reconnect you to the servers if connection is lost.
Patch Notes for v1.0b (Steam)
Add background timeout when "Waiting for Players" at the top of the race to help prevent long wait times when players join late. (Only patched for Steam hosts so Nintendo Switch hosts will not perform the timeout until the patch goes live on Nintendo Switch).
Note that you may need to restart Steam for the update to download automatically.
