The first TCPD open play test has concluded!

Hey everyone, the #IndieRacersFestival play test for Tristan Cole's Pro Driver has officially ended!

Thanks to all of you who played, and a special thanks to everybody who provided feedback or made content around the game. There were a total of 150 people who requested play test access during the festival, not counting downloads from other sources!!

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please don't hesitate to share in the Steam forums. If you didn't get a chance to play, don't worry: TCPD will have more open play tests in the future! You can get the latest updates and follow the game's progress on Twitter.

TCPD now has an objective mode - #IndieRacersFestival update!

Hey everyone, the Indie Racers Festival play test for Tristan Cole's Pro Driver has just received an update!

This update includes various improvements/fixes including:

  • Brand new objective mode!

    • 5 objectives to complete while speeding through LATC!
  • Moved tutorial UI to right side of screen so boost meter doesn't get blocked
  • Added some ramps & did some landscaping in LATC
  • Updated taxi mode

    • Default round time is now 90 seconds
    • Added more passengers & delivery destinations in LATC
    • Extended passenger delivery time and raised time bonuses

This is the last content update for the festival, but be sure to let me know if you encounter any game breaking bugs and I'll try to patch them asap! Please leave any feedback in the game's Steam forums.

TCPD play test is officially live for the Indie Racers Festival!

Hey everybody, the first open play test for Tristan Cole's Pro Driver is now live on Steam during the Indie Racers Festival!

TCPD Pre-Alpha Update #5! Multiplayer, taxi mode, & more!

Hey everybody, there's a brand new build for TCPD! This one contains a lot of big changes like multiplayer, new vehicles, taxi mode, and a new level!

🔳 Overview


This is a huge update spanning a bunch of different changes and additions! Here's the basic breakdown:
  • Online Multiplayer added!
    • Server browser where you can browse games or host your own
    • Two gameplay modes:
      • Free Ride - Drive around stunting & exploring the level with other players!
      • Trick Attack - Challenge other drivers to a high score competition!
  • Two new vehicles added!
    • Orange muscle car - a street machine!
    • Teal old car - a classic!
  • Taxi mode added!
    • Pickup passengers and deliver them to their destinations as quickly as possible. Pull off stunts to get style points in order to increase your rating & get more tips!
  • New level "Downtown" added!
    • Towering skyscrapers, big office parks, curvy backroads, split level streets; this map has it all!
  • General changes:
    • Reworked main menu scene & UI!
      • Switch and save vehicle choice in settings
    • More realistic global gravity settings (better destruction/prop hits!)
    • Removed tutorial mode (temporarily) for rework
    • Reworked postprocessing, lighting, & toned down color saturation
    • Jump button behavior reverted (no charge jump)

🔳 Full Patch Notes

General:

  • Add passenger delivery mode
    • Players must pick up passengers and deliver them within the time limits while doing stunts to increase their rating & earn tips
    • Passengers are scattered around the levels with three varying levels of distance: close (red), medium (yellow), & far (green)
    • When passengers are picked up, the delivery spots are shown temporarily in UI and then physically on the map with a yellow box & floating destination marker
    • An overhead arrow points the player to the destination spot
    • Players will get rating & time bonuses based on the speed of their delivery
    • If not delivered within the time limit, passengers will bail from the vehicle
  • Disable tutorial mode temporarily
  • Allow user to switch vehicle & save selection
  • Fix bug where music toggle wasn't saved correctly
  • Global gravity has been lowered to achieve more realistic physics interactions
  • Better lighting/postprocessing & toned down saturation in all levels
  • Fix bug where respawn function wouldn't teleport player back to correct location
  • Added P2P multiplayer functionality:
    • Backend uses Epic Online Services (no Epic account required for playing)
    • Server browser that allows joining of public servers or hosting your own
    • Up to 8 players per match
    • Two gameplay modes:
      • Free Ride - players can ride around freely with others in their choice of level
      • Trick Attack - round based PvP where the player with the highest score at the end of the round wins
        • If players join during a round, they spectate until the current round is finished
        • Two players required to start a game
        • 2 minute rounds with a short downtime to free roam in between (host has the option to start early)

Vehicle/Gameplay:

  • Added SmoothSync to vehicle and replicated all basic interactions for online multiplayer
  • Vehicle downforce when in air has been removed in favor of new global gravity settings
  • Vehicle
  • Added "stuck" button in pause menu
  • Two new vehicles
  • Modify cage in blue tuner sedan for better character visibility
  • Hook up body roll functions so vehicle animates movement again
  • Fix vehicle "floating" at rest
  • Reworked spring/damper system slightly to try and give more stability on landings
    • Still heavily a work in progress.
  • Lower total force/top speed in boost to make handling more manageable

UI/UX:

  • Add a branded splash screen animation before main menu scene
  • Add a dev message popup on main menu scene start
  • Update main HUD with taxi mode information (score, rating, tips, destination cam, etc.)
  • Update main menu buttons with tire track hover image & confirmation sounds
  • Added multiplayer floating scorecard & toggled scoreboard with basic game & player info

Maps:

  • Downtown
    • Completely reworked tutorial level into new Downtown map
    • Introduced ramp trucks on city streets
    • Added traffic system splines around most of the city for basic AI traffic
    • Custom shops & delivery spots for taxi mode
  • LATC
    • Smoothed out terrain in some areas
    • Removed traffic light meshes
    • Lowered sidewalks for better stability
    • Added some basic shops & destinations for taxi mode
    • Converted some blockout geometry to static meshes for improved performance
