Two Point Hospital

Blog: Here's what you've missed!

Hello everyone!

We know what it’s like. Life is hard. Time is limited. You simply can’t read everything we put out there. So pull up a chair and take a seat, because here’s your handy roundup of everything you may have missed from Two Point Hospital.

You’ve no doubt already seen one or two bits of gameplay already. There was the original announcement trailer, featuring Trevor, which had a bit of gameplay at the end.

https://youtu.be/T6TPTiOCuVk

Then, in the Developer Vision Trailer, we revealed a little more gameplay (including that guy rushing for the toilet. We’ve all been there, let’s face it).

Most recently, you’ll have seen an extended 8-minute section of gameplay cuts showing you a variety of things going on in a typical hospital – and you’ve no doubt also seen Blarla’s (https://www.facebook.com/Blarla1/) excellent Peeping At series, which deconstructs these in fine detail to extract every morsel of information.

And, of course, we recently blogged the first ten minutes of the game.

BLOG: The first ten minutes of Two Point Hospital

by Craig @ SEGA - a man easily seduced by nice tiling

The sun is shining down here in Hogsport, a picturesque harbour here in the South West of Two Point County. It’s a picture of calm. A quintessential picture postcard of a town.

Meanwhile, I’m busy surveying the beautiful space I’ve been granted, adorned with shiny blue flooring from wall to wall. Its polystyrene ceiling tiles beckon me coyly. Perhaps that one up there just winked at me. The whole place reeks of absolute seduction to me, because I’m a hospital administrator and this is what excites me.

It’s completely empty at the moment, but soon it’ll be bustling with sick and possibly dying and/or dead people. I imagine a coin-op in the corner over there. Perhaps a bookshelf over there. My mind is buzzing with ideas. But first I need to place a reception desk.

The desk is sturdy, practical, yet friendly. Placing its light wood frame and lovely blue surface right by the huge, automatic sliding doors will just scream “professional healthcare”, and I love that. The words whisper back to me in my head, and I nod serenely.

I’ll need an assistant next, so I plunge into the menu and pick one out. Cheap and cheerful? He’ll do. Next, I’ll need a GP’s office.

The GP’s (general practitioner’s) office is the heart of the whole operation. In here, my highly trained doctors will hopefully identity the cause of the sickness that is ravaging each individual who enters the office. Diagnose the sicko correctly, send them for the appropriate cure and I could be on the road to some serious cash.

That’s the reason I’m in this, by the way.

I mean, sure, people staying alive is great, but only as long as they either give me lots of money or keep eating Jumbo Nuts from my vending machines. That, there? That’s happiness. Ahh. Hear it? Happiness.

I place a couple of windows in the GP’s office. Partly because I’m keen to allow lots of light in there and increase the prestige rating of the room, and partly because I’ve been watching a lot of TV shows about nice houses and big windows always seems to be a plus. I know your tricks, architects.

Next, I plonk down a sturdy filing cabinet, containing loads of patient records that are probably not stolen, and finally lay down a wonderful doctor’s desk.

I also drop down an examination table and a fire extinguisher. I’ve seen too many documentaries on spontaneous human combustion to know that safety first is the best approach.

I hire Polly Avocado as my first GP, and throw open the doors of my hospital. Polly rises from her plush seat and walks over to the window just in time to see the first of my patients emerging from the local subway.

Sabrina Cumberland checks in at reception.

My goodness, what am I doing? I forgot to build seats! I quickly place down some benches to allow the checked-in human to take a load off while they wait for the GP.

Off they go into Polly’s office. She’s quick, efficient. Pretty soon she has a diagnosis in mind. It’s a case of grout. Immediately, I realise I need a pharmacy, so get about dragging out the outline of the room, before placing a dispenser machine, a couple of pot plants and a nice radiator in the corner.

Heat is important in the hospital if you want to keep your patients happy. I just thought it looked nice.

I hire a nurse and he immediately gets to dispensing the required medicine. This case of grout is cured! I revel in my victory and check my swelling bank account, only to realise another ten or so patients have since come in the door.

I throw my head back in delight and look up again at those seductive roof tiles. Let’s make some money!

PC Gamer Weekender - New Gameplay Revealed!

This weekend we were lucky enough to be invited to talk at PC Gamer Weekender about all The Birth of Two Point Studios and our progress and vision for Two Point Hospital. This would be the very first time we'd be showing a big chunk of gameplay - with illnesses and cures aplenty - so needless to say we were all really excited - and maybe a tiny bit apprehensive - about the event!

Prior to the event we met (*cough* in the pub *cough*) to decide what we wanted to include in our talk and gameplay footage. We were laughing for a lot of that meeting, which is always a good sign when it comes to presenting a game like Two Point Hospital :P The wonderful thing about Two Point is the history and experience it has been born from - I could sit around with Gary and Mark and listen to their story telling jackanory for hours… but there's always work to do! The weeks sped by and before we knew it we were a couple of days out from the show and gathering our thoughts, presentation and gameplay ready for the show.

The morning of the PC Gamer Weekender arrived. We met at the venue. I nearly got ushered through to the next door wedding event as a speaker - which could have been interesting - and before we knew it we were all gathered around the Developers Stage briefing the AV guy on our presentation. We all knew what would go where, who would come on stage at which point and how the whole thing would play out. We were ready. Grand.

As our call time arrived and I was feeling pretty confident about the whole thing. Just as I was about to start panicking that no one would come and be our audience I realised I had something bigger to worry about - Gary, Mark and Ben Hymers were nowhere to be seen! Thankfully they returned after five panic stricken minutes with fresh coffees in their hands. NOW we were ready!

The Birth of Two Point Studios talk went down a storm! The audience area was packed - we even had people standing to watch - and everybody laughed at Gary's jokes which was super polite of them ;) The story of setting the studio up is one I've heard many times, but I still enjoy hearing the team talk about it. The passion for this game and genre given off by our founders is impossible not to see, and I think our talk really got that across. However, the really exciting part of our talk was the 7 minutes of exclusive gameplay that we showed off!

The gameplay was really the first time viewers had a chance to feel the atmosphere of Two Point County and exist within it for a little while, if you know what I mean. We showed off a little of the county itself, gave context to where your hospital may be on the map of Two Point County and then shows the inside of a beautiful and successful hospital, all captured by Gary Carr himself! Of course there was still plenty more in store - new illnesses, new NPC reactions, new cures… but I'll leave that for now as we expect to have the very same gameplay footage out in the world for you all to see very soon!

We managed to have enough time to do a short Q&A at the end of our talk which was awesome! If you're ever coming to see us at an event, do prepare some questions just in case! We really do love hearing from you and enjoy listening your views on what we're doing! All in all, everything was really well received - we came off stage to applause and had some time to talk to the audience members individually. We are often blown away by the excitement held for Two Point Hospital by the gaming community, and this was no exception.

To top it all off we even got to meet Blarla, who is one of our most supportive and knowledgeable fans. Obviously, as a Community Manager I liiiive for those moments that the community and devs get to actually meet and have a chat, so that saw me grinning from ear to ear!

Team Two Point still had a few engagements to stick to - you may have seen them on SEGA's Make War Not Love stream and on PC Gamers own stream later that afternoon.

The reception we got from everyone - at the show and across social media - was nothing short of wonderful and we are so very pleased to be working on something that you all want to get your hands on, so thank you from the bottom of our ventricles for being there to support us! <3
