Unending Galaxy 1.3 : Military Update

We are officially announcing a free content patch for Unending Galaxy focusing on the military and diplomacy aspects of the game. While we cannot give a precise ETA yet, you can read about our plans on the official website.

Patch 1.2.1.0

Patch Notes

This patch makes the asset list independent from the empire manager, fixing in the process many issues with the respective menus. It also fixes many small to medium problems (same ship appearing twice, steam overlay support, inconsistent lasso selection...).

Changelog

Changes

  • Asset List has been moved outside of the Empire Manager
  • Empire Manager menu does pause the game now (and is screen centered)
  • Added button to access asset list in bottom menu
  • F1-F4 shortcuts keys reorganized to be in same order as bottom menu buttons
  • Slightly bigger font used in main UI

Balance

  • Carrier owned fighters will self destruct or exit the galaxy if the carrier gets killed (fixes various exploits and problems)

Performances

  • Asset List no longer massively reduce FPS (still does a bit)
  • Better performances and memory use in long uninterrupted sessions

Fixes

  • Fixed: Lasso selection issue when not started from the top left corner
  • Fixed: Ordering a carrier to protect its own fighter could causes the carrier to dock to itself
  • Fixed: Help popups not always disappearing properly
  • Fixed: Steam overlay not working when a game pausing menu is open
  • Fixed: Misc issues in empire manager menu
  • Fixed: Clicking targeted object name in bottom menu bar has unintended effect
  • Fixed: Ships can't "exit the galaxy" (aka disappear) in a gate-less game (from 1.2.0.9)
  • Fixed: Build shortcut key not working
  • Fixed: Same Ship appearing multiple times in Asset List (and related issues)
  • Fixed: Small display issue with long sector names in asset list
  • Fixed: Possible access violations in large, complex, battles

Patch 1.2.0.9

Patch Notes

This version fixes a bug from 1.2.0.6+ that was preventing space-flies from spawning properly alongside rare minor issues.

Also, as requested, I added an option to disable warp gates completely. You'll find the option in the "New Game" menu. It hasn't been extensively tested, and the game hasn't been designed for it, but it can be fun to test nonetheless.

Changelog

Changes

  • Added "New Game" option : Disable Warp Gates (user request)

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed: Spaceflies not spawning (will only apply on new games)
  • Fixed: Misc reported issues and typos

Patch 1.2.0.8

Patch Notes

This is a maintenance patch released to fix a problem introduced by the new AI core defensive structures. A missing starting position has been added (Ceridan Invader) alongside smaller fixes and improvements. It also contains what should be a definitive fix for the high/low surrogate bug.

Full changelog

Changes

  • Added Ceridan Invader start position (was missing from Steam edition)
  • Allies and friends (>30%) won't build in your empty sectors anymore

Performance improvements

  • Sector Info panel eats slightly less FPS when opened
  • Faction AI uses slightly less CPU
  • More consistent FPS when a fleet/bookmark panel is open

Fixes

  • Possible fix for the low/high surrogate bug (hopefully for good)
  • Fixed: Crash in Build menu if AI Core Defense Platform is selected
  • Fixed: Misc issues with 'productionless' factories (ex. AI Core defensive platform)
  • Fixed: Possible error when user interface (upper panels) are refreshed
  • Fixed: Possible error when loading a game (rare)
  • Fixed: Some typos in help popups
  • Fixed: It was possible to run the game multiple times simultaneously

Patch 1.2.0.7

Patch Notes

This weekend patch fixes two exploits that could be used to build unlimited buildings for free. It incidentally fixes a rare situation where you could end up with multiple AI military bases or shipyards in the same sector.

It also includes a couple of other small improvements.

Changelog

Changes

  • Infinite money and god mode enabled during tutorial
  • Messages in bottom screen disappear a bit faster
  • Added "order canceled" message when player cancels order

Fixes

  • Yet another potential fix for Low/High Surrogate bug
  • Fixed: rare error message on game exit
  • Fixed: Taking direct control of a building ship wouldn't cancel the build animation and would lose the money
  • Fixed: Exploit allowing multiple shipyards/mbase/trade stations to be built in same sector
  • Fixed: Exploit allowing to get away building docks for free using save/load
  • Fixed: Mod description doesn't change to blank when there is no mod select / modinfo.txt file for selected mod in launcher
  • Fixed: Game editor : Faction AI types can be listed multiple times
  • Fixed: More typos

Patch 1.2.0.6

Patch Notes

Misc small balance and pacing changes according to user feedback. Mining has been made less profitable, AI Core has been beefed up slightly, and a AI module filter has been added to the Asset List.

As usual with a few bugfixes for reported issues. Admin rights are no longer required, as such if you cannot save game, you may have to setup your steam properly or manually run the game with admin rights.

Regarding the "low surrogate..." bug some of you are experiencing, I added another potential fix. Alternatively, disable the help popups in the general settings, it should alleviate the issue greatly.

Changelog

Balance & Pacing

  • Reduced how profitable is ore mining (roids contain less material and take longer to mine)
  • Added AI Core defensive structure (basically a fake factory)
  • AI Core shields absorb large amounts of most damage types

Improvement

  • Replaced 'sector filter' by 'AI module filter' in Asset List menu
  • Added specific error message if settings are too high for the graphic card's memory
  • Removed admin rights requirements (setup your steam folders properly if you cannot save or manually set admin rights)
  • Sector Info panel no longer causes the galactic map filters and jump button to hide

Fixes

  • Another potential fix for string related errors (surrogate error)
  • Fixed: Contacting a Pirate Base when your ship isn't main camera target makes some menu unusable
  • Fixed: Using the [R]eset camera key would display "reset to player controlled ship" no matter if ship is under manual player control or not
  • Fixed: Rare possible error when sector info panel menu is open
  • Fixed: Sector info panel not refreshed while game is paused
  • Fixed: Adding factories with no production to the game through modding would cause various problems

Post Release Devlog

Hello,

A devlog about the Steam release and what is in store for Unending Galaxy is available on the official website. Also, note that the game will receive another patch next weekend. It will remove the need for admin rights, add a few ease of use tweaks, and hopefully fix the last remaining issues.

Cheers.

Patch 1.2.0.5

Patch Notes

This version makes sure military stations (and any other armed dock) have correct friendly fire settings. Also, buying goods at a pirate base will give you a short period of respite during which pirate raiders won't try to intercept you.

As usual, it also contains a few bug fixes for the issues that have been reported recently. Next stop will be to remove the need for admin rights and deal with a couple of game exploits.

Changelog

Balance

  • Pirates won't shot you down the second your undock from a pirate base with valuables anymore

Improvements

  • Sped up some calculations when lots of ships are present on screen (standard view)

Fixes

  • Fixed: Shipyard occasionally killing the ship you just bought
  • Fixed: Stations friendly fire settings not set properly (oops)
  • Fixed: Display multiple "order acknowledged" animations when giving orders to multiple ships
  • Fixed: Rare but possible access violation on sector and galactic maps
  • Fixed: Rare but possible access violation on asset list
  • Fixed: Colony menu showing the build option in open space, causing an access violation when used
  • Fixed: A couple of errors that don't cause any crash beside the bug report window showing up

Patch 1.2.0.4

Patch Notes

This is, hopefully, one of the last "quick fix" patches. It also contains a few small balance changes. If you are still getting "I/O errors" disable the debug: log events option in the configuration tool, as it's no longer useful information.

Changelog

Balance

  • Diplo tributes to friends are proportional to the size of your empire (individuals get pocket change)
  • Allies and very friendly won't try to plant military bases in your empire anymore

Improvements

  • Explosions (missiles, mines, Flak) no longer hit friendlies and neutrals
  • Quicksave no longer resume game if it was paused before pressing button
  • Misc. code optimizations

Fixes

  • Potential fix for "Low surrogate error" and "String index error"
  • Potential fix for occasional quicksaving fail when game is very busy
  • Fixed: I/O Error when debug log is enabled (sigh)
  • Fixed: A possible fleet / bookmark panels freeze/bug/crash
  • Fixed: Exception in station setup menu if the player isn't flying a ship
  • Fixed: Multiple menu related issues
  • Fixed: Rare issue with mouse selection
  • Fixed: Station editors are missing max value for gun and shield slots

Patch 1.2.0.3

Patch Notes

This version fixes the 4 most common bugs encountered by our users. As such it should be pretty stable for most, if not all of you. It will still ask for admin rights as a temporary band-aid to work around some issues on badly configured computers.

We are working on the few remaining issues.

Changelog

Fixes

  • Fixed: Invalid pointer error when exiting the game
  • Fixed: Empire Summary screen freezing when left open for long periods of time
  • Fixed: Rare access violation in galactic news
  • Fixed: Possible access violation / freeze of the rendering engine
