Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer's Legacy

Patch 1.2.6

Fixing bugs and expanding the palette of traps and hazards is what we’ve been working on this week. There are new and more interesting combinations of these features. What’s more, we’ve added a few new types of automatons for you to deal with.

We have also moved our discord community to a new server. Come and check it out!

https://discord.gg/4Y4983keuf

New Features
- Added new automatons: smoker, myster, poisoner, fighter.
- Expanded generator rules to create hazards and traps.

Bug Fixes
- Improves the way spider lair encounters are generated, so that they can actually be defeated.
- Adding a flame sigil to the flame mask actually has an effect.
- Fixes an issue that prevents you from using the Eye to fast travel after waking the Sky Elemental.
- Heavy armors with two Sky Sigils get ‘spell resistance’ instead of nothing.
- Throwing weapons are aimed a little higher to reduce the chance they hit the ground just a little short of the target.
- If your camp is interrupted, you cannot be interrupted again until time passes.
- Potential fix for possible null reference exceptions when you arrive at a destination.
- Fixes a malformed entrance sometimes found in the Bone Temple.
- Dying with berries in your inventory can no longer break the game when you try to start a new run.
- The tutorial message for travel encounters cannot appear in Haven’s inn.
- Fixes visual bug that sometimes appeared in smoke and steam.
- Fixes a rare stall after building a level caused by the game camera.
- Game recovers better when sublevels are missing, preventing accidental ‘wormholes’ that take you to completely different levels accidentally.

Unexplored 2 developer and publisher part ways

Unexplored 2 developer Ludomotion and publisher Big Sugar mutually agreed to part ways. Ludomotion will take on the publishing duties for the genre defying procedurally generated open world RPG that launched on PC this May and later on consoles.

NEW DISCORD SERVER:
https://discord.gg/4Y4983keuf

Ludomotion’s Joris Dormans: “We are grateful for Big Sugar to have embarked on this adventure with us. We thank them for making such an ambitious project possible. Now it’s time for us to look forward, to the future of Unexplored 2.”

Dormans continues: “The core team behind Unexplored 2 is dedicated to keep pushing updates once a week on PC. Since launch we have published over 25 updates and patches and we will continue to do so. We also have plans and new content lined up. We’re moving to a new discord server and are excited to see our very dedicated community of players to follow us suit.”

For consoles Big Sugar will remain publisher until a new company has been signed on to take over the game for Xbox and Playstation consoles. “We hope this switch will allow us to keep updating the game on all platforms.”

Patch 1.2.5

This week we were inspired by some talks at Roguelike Celebration. In particular the talk about trap design led to many improvements of traps and hazards in the game. To be frank, traps in particular could do with some work for a long time now. Traps and natural hazards appear now in more interesting combinations where we prefer to create an interesting cascade of effects rather than instant damage from hidden triggers.

The work on traps is not finished; we expect to add more variety to them over the next couple of weeks.

New Features
- Added flamer type automatons.
- New type of hidden pressure plates that are more fair.
- Improved the generator rules for creating traps, secrets, and natural hazards.

Bug Fixes
- Duplicate world events are ignored, save games with a huge number of duplicate world events are automatically restored.
- You cannot over charge the Helico after you have taken its sigils.
- Adding a map diagnostic to make sure nodes with encounters are not disabled.
- Fixes a possible stall when loading a savegame.
- Added a new automatic fix for worlds generated with incorrect versions of the High Pass.
- The chest on the top of the spiked spire is generated correctly.
- Fixes rare generator issue with ‘hard mud barriers’.

Patch 1.2.4 has arrived!

One day later than usual - it’s been busy this week - the patch is here. Still, it is a relatively small patch. Most importantly a number of bugs were fixed. As a bit of new content you might be able to unlock new magic powers on rare bows. The past week we’ve spent most of our time laying the ground works for things to come. But fixed bugs are still fixed bugs!

New Features
- New rare resonance effects for form sigils in well-made bows.
- All clan settlements are revealed from the start.

Bug Fixes
- World event skip buttons have the correct label.
- Big gates at the exit of a level are generated more consistently.
- Towns cannot be generated with gatekeepers guarding the wrong gate.
- Innkeepers and patrons cannot generate outside the inn.
- Additional improvements to camera framing for the dialog portraits.
- Factions are not removed entirely between runs due to spreading imperial influence.
- The Arc can be gifted to clans.

Patch 1.2.3.1

We couldn’t resist another nice looking patch number. There was some extra time to work away 10 more bugs, so why not release it now? One fix takes full advantage of the new world constraints feature that allows us to retroactively fix any faulty world generation.

Bug Fixes
- Fixes a generator bug that caused some cave entrances not to be generated correctly.
- Map diagnostics also check the status of the secret entrance connections.
- Fixes an issue with the secret route achievement.
- Fixes issue with specific books not spawning correctly.
- Reduces the number of rocks at the bottom of cliffs to prevent accidental blockades.
- Prevents the generator from placing too many ramps next to each other.
- Third attempt to fix the bug that caused some instances of Crawling Flesh creatures to become immune to all damage and unable to attack you. Hopefully three times is a charm!
- During world generation the last used content options are always used, even if you didn’t look at the content options tab.
- The curated world only excludes other content options when they are actually incompatible.
- When you have the ‘no negative status effect’ cheat enabled you can still get cursed and become awakened. Otherwise this cheat can get you trapped in places where those conditions are actually needed.

Now waltz with us :)

Patch 1.2.3

Oh jolly! Another patch with a cool looking number: 1.2.3 :D

This week’s patch fixes a number of bugs that were reported over the last couple of days, but more importantly it introduces a new automated quality check: world constraints. These constraints are checked after a new world is generated or when you load a save game after the game was updated. In many cases when constraints are not satisfied the game can repair the world automatically. Although there might still be cases where a fix fails or is not yet implemented. When that happens you will see a notification with a request to send us the save game for that world so that we can include fixes for these cases in future patches.

New Features
- Expanded options for modding: you can now add and replace texts, alter conversations, and even dabble with creature and level templates.
- A new world constraint system makes the world generation much more robust. At the start of a new world, but also when a save is loaded in a new version, constraints are checked and when possible issues are fixed.

Bug Fixes
- Further improvements for the dialog portraits.
- Fixes a stall when the Empire tries to advance to blocked, mountainous map nodes.
- Rumors for the ‘arbiter grounds’ are displayed correctly.
- World events that only have one button can be correctly controlled with a gamepad.
- Mercy themed cave entrances are placed and oriented correctly.
- Fixes issue with map connections that only appear in one direction.
- Marang books, tomes, scrolls, and maps have the correct trade values.
- Traders store their inventory correctly after a trade is made.

Patch 1.2.2.1

Just a few additional bug fixes:
- Fixes issue with dialogs not appearing for certain NPCs.
- Fixes fairly rare generator error with mountain top levels.
- Fixes references to correct location for haunted by wight rumors.
- Gear and conditions that protect you against cold correctly counter cold effect induced by blizzards.

The first issue was new and critical enough to warrent the extra patch. (Either that or we couldn't resist a patch with palindrome version number 1.2.2.1!)

Patch 1.2.2 is out!

This week’s patch is mostly about bug fixes. The most critical bug that was fixed is the issue that sometimes caused the game to stall when starting a new run in an existing world. Another important bug caused the AI to be oblivious to dangerous terrain. That behavior should be a lot better now.

There is also a new feature: curated worlds. When you create a new world there is a content option that allows you to play in a fixed, pregenerated world. That world has a nice spread of terrains and quests not too far from Haven. What’s more, you can explore this world together. To make sure that the game keeps you on your toes even if you have played that world before, we plan to have the seeds for individual locations to vary more than they do now in the near future.

New Content
- A basic curated world.

Bug Fixes
- Improves the way AI avoids dangerous terrain.
- The game no longer stalls when starting a new run with the Empire on Haven’s doorstep.
- Fixes generator issue that failed specific instances of the ‘roughRoadSimple’ level template.
- Fixes generator issue that made roads too narrow near bushes.
- Specific key doors stay open more persistently even after the level is regenerated. This helps with the locks behind which you sometimes find a serpent gate.
- Pickaxe description is no longer nondeterministic.
- The dust devil wrap now actually protects against blizzards.
- Deeds and achievements are rewarded correctly for uncovering complete legends.
- Improves the way cave entrances are generated.
- You cannot select incompatible difficulty or gameplay settings.

Patch 1.2.1 is live!

This week’s update is relatively small. Some time this week was spent planning ahead and improving some of our tools. Nevertheless we’ve managed to fix some bugs and add some new stuff…

If you start a new world, you might find a region is mysteriously frozen into an eternal winter, and you might also pick up rumors of a brand new location: the spiked spire. That last location prominently features ‘new’ mechanical spikes built by the ancient Marang, although you might now also encounter these spikes at other locations.

New Content
- White wolflings
- Eternal winter characteristic for regions
- Cold Hearted condition
- Mechanical spike hazards
- The spiked spire location

Bug Fixes
- Dead enemies can no longer ‘see’ you, which would cause them to qualify as nearby hostile incorrectly.
- Quickly toggling and switching between presets works correctly.
- Fixes a number of minor generator issues.
- Fixes a number of typos and missing texts.

Dear new players: 5 tips & 6 sources

Dear new players, welcome!

We wanted to let you know a few very important tidbits before you dive in, so read these tips or watch these videos to be better prepared.

TIPS

1. ADJUST YOUR DIFFICULTY!

Unexplored 2 has one of the most expansive difficulty settings imaginable! Getting thrashed in your world? Create a new one with settings that are more to your liking! More than anything, this will increase the amount of fun you get out of the game.

2. STUCK? PRAY FOR HELP!

Sometimes you get stuck because you can't find a certain item, you forgot how something worked or maybe it's the game's fault. Open the ingame menu and Pray for Help! This will get you unstuck most of the times. (If you think it's a bug, press F11 to create an error log and share it with us, see source).

3. TAKE IT SLOW

Although the tutorial showcases the combat, in the real game, combat is mostly best being avoided. You don't get loot, you don't get XP. You survive, you get to go where you want, that's the reward.

4. TALK TO FOLK

Especially in the beginning, talk to everyone and real all the tutorial messages. It WILL take you some time to get to grips with everything that is going on at the same time. Townspeople are a great source of information for your world.

5. PREPARE FOR TRAVEL

Make a plan where to travel to and prepare for that journey. Check if you need boots, extra water, cold gear, et cetera. Oh, and you don't HAVE to visit every node on the map. A lot of times you can just travel to the next node.
