Patch 1.7.24 kicks off the new year with a handful of bug fixes
Here is the first patch of the new year! We are getting back into the groove of weekly updates. This week there are only a handful of bug fixes. For next week we plan to keep improving the tutorial area in the Haven.
Bug Fixes - Save games automatically recover if the game crashes in the game over screen after you died. - Ropes cannot be duplicated on spots where you can climb down, but cannot climb back up again. - Repairs a missing rumor text (“tiding.triava.kaban”). - The quest to claim a keep is no longer offered when you arrive at a keep. You must commit to such a quest with a clan leader. - When a game is restored lingering quest data is removed more effectively. - The map reflects the possibility of picking up quests at adventure sites more accurately.
We wish you all a wonderful and adventure-filled 2025!
Patch1.7.23 adds a new way to get rumors and brings back character customization
On our discord server several players indicated that they enjoyed interacting with the rumor system, and wanted more opportunities to interact with it. For that reason we added a new item ‘fragmented notes’ that you can occasionally find at abandoned campsites. If you have 3 of these notes you can study them to gain a rumor on the road. Even better, most old libraries now offer you an opportunity to study 2 of such notes to get a rumor.
We also brought back the option to customize your character’s name and voice in the in-game menu. For the time being this is only really supported by mouse and keyboard.
Gameplay Changes: - Adds a new item: Fragmented Notes. If you have 3 of these you can study them to gain a new rumor. - Adds a new type of desk in libraries that you can use to study 2 fragmented notes to gain a new rumor. - Occasionally you can find fragmented notes at old campsites. - Adds the option to customize your character’s name and voice in the character sheet. (Only supported by mouse and keyboard for now).
Bug Fixes: - If you activate the shifting eye, but are not wearing the Sky Mask, the appropriate text is shown. - Potential fix for the door to the Staff of Yendor in the temple being accidentally left open after visiting and exploring certain adventure sites.
This will very likely be the last update of 2024. The upcoming holidays will interfere with our regular patch schedule for at least 2 weeks. So the next patch is not expected until January 8. Unless there are some pressing bugs that need to be dealt with before that.
Patch 1.7.22 adds a room to the tutorial area to learn about the Empire
This week we have been expanding the tutorial area a bit. There are now new opportunities to learn about traveling and the empire. We also fixed a couple of bugs in and outside the tutorial area. For a full overview of the latest changes, please check out our discord server.
Gameplay Changes: - Improves the instructions for combat during the tutorial. - Crevices show up in the inspector earlier and communicate their state better. - Changes the instructions and directions the first trainer in haven gives you. - Populates an extra room in the tutorial area where you can learn about the Empire. - Spots where you can spy ahead point in the direction you will be looking. - Wells no longer trigger the automatic camera.
Bug Fixes: - Items picked up from chests during the tutorial are also removed when you leave the tutorial area. - Items picked up during the tutorial are not retained after the tutorial if you saved and restored during the tutorial. - Generating elementals has more priority than generating random architectural details. - More robust placement of the ‘spot’ where you can claim a keep. - The graphic option ‘To move camera when obscured’ is actually saved. - Makes escaping the edge more robust.
Patch 1.7.21 further improves the new tutorial area
This week we have made some improvements to the new in-game tutorial set-up. Most importantly you will no longer get to keep anything you find in the tutorial, so there is no unintended incentive to play through it every time. In the mean-time we’re still collecting data and feedback to improve the experience for new players further.
Gameplay Changes: - Items you pick up in the tutorial are removed when you leave the tutorial area. - Certain chests are always resupplied when you enter the tutorial area in Haven. - When you are in the tutorial area and you get wounded, you are healed instead.
Bug Fixes: - If you are close to a wall you can correctly interact with level features on your side of the wall. - If you restore a save game in the tutorial cave area below Haven, the tutorial mode is correctly activated. - The tutorial cave allows you to leave.
Patch 1.7.20 adds the first version of a new tutorial area to Haven
We have started on adding a new tutorial area dug into the bowels of the temple in Haven. We felt that the current tutorial no longer reflects the general philosophy behind the game very well. It actually even might build the wrong expectations.
The new tutorial area is far from complete or perfect; it has not yet replaced the old tutorial. But at some point in the future it will!
Gameplay Changes - Adds a first version of a new tutorial area accessible from the temple in Haven.
Patch 1.7.19 Fixes some bugs as we prepare to overhaul the tutorial
This week’s patch only fixes a handful of bugs, as we are preparing to do a final overhaul of the tutorial to reflect all the latest changes to the game.
Bug Fixes: - Potential fix for strangers and similar groups of accidentally cloning your gear when you finish a quest. - The quest to ‘find a way’ to revive the flame elemental can actually be finished. - Suppresses superfluous ‘learned quest’ messages when you reload a game at a quest location. - You can remove and replace the Staff of Yendor on the Prime Elemental Forge as often as you like without consequences. - When you have placed the Staff of Yendor on the Prime Elemental Forge you cannot leave the area by entering buildings.
Patch 1.7.18 adds Edge Dungeons to imperial sites that safeguards treasure
This week we have been working on new ‘Edge Dungeons’. Small sites in the dark magic realm of ‘The Edge’ that can be accessed from imperial controlled settlements and some imperial camps. This is where the Empire keeps their treasure, and where you might want to go to liberate that treasure.
Gameplay Changes: - Changing the population of the imperial capital. - Adds an ‘edge dungeon’ to imperial controlled settlements that allow you to raid them for dark sigils and well-made items. - Adds a smaller ‘edge dungeon’ to camps inside the Empire that also allow you to raid them for some ‘dark’ treasure. Bug Fixes: - Sky Portals are generated more consistently. - New worlds cannot generate a site where there needs to be a Sky Portal and a Scrying Device. - Lingering quest information no longer prevents you from committing to a quest with a clan leader.
Patch 1.7.17 Adds the missing dark magic effects for shields
This week’s patch fixes some bugs and adds the missing dark magic effects for shields. It also rebalances the dark effects for melee weapons.
We have also added a ‘pray for help’ cheatcode to get some dark sigils easily if you want to test out this new range of effects. Check out the announcements on our Discord server for more details.
Gameplay Changes - Adds a ‘pray’ code to get a couple of dark sigils for testing purposes. - Adds dark magic effects for shields. - ‘Black’ and ‘annihilation’ weapons ignore negative modifiers from rusty, notched, damaged, and wrecked. - Increases the damage dealt by ‘black’ and ‘annihilation’ weapons when the magic weapon itself is damaged.
Bug fixes - If the wayfarer dies at a quest location, quest data is properly cleared upon return to Haven. - Fix for one instance of the bug that prevented you talking to fellow wayfarers after finishing a quest.
Patch 1.7.16 adds more dark magic sigil effects.
This week we have added more effects for dark sigils in armors, wands, scepters, rods, and staves.

Patch 1.7.15 adds ‘Dark Sigils’
Dark Sigils are a new type of sigil that allows you to tap into the same magic the Empire does. They can significantly boost your magic items, but be warned! The price of such magic is dire!
For the time being, Dark Sigils are rare. You can only get them from destroying Rift Shards in imperial territory.
New magic accompanying magic effects have been implemented for melee weapons, bows, and rings, with more to follow next week!
Gameplay Changes - When you destroy a rift shard you can get a dark sigil. - Dark sigils can be added to items. But they can never be removed… - Implements new magic effects for dark sigils for melee weapons. - Implements new magic effects for dark sigils for bows. - Implements new magic effects for dark sigils for rings. - Adds a message if you try to fire a bow when you are out of arrows.
