This is going to be the last update for the year; and for a little while.
We're going dark for a short period (3-4 months); after which the first major 3.0 updates will start to drop.
As previously mentioned in this update, this and all future builds are for The Lyrius Conflict DLC only. So if you are looking for on-going patches to the base (freeware) game, you need to buy the DLC. It's cheap. Don't be cheap. Are you cheap?
THE PLAN
In the next few months to final release, there are going to be on-going fixes, tweaking etc to the underlying game engines.
During that time, all the new content (art, models, terrain textures, fx etc) will be replaced with the more recent ones. As most of this content cannot be used in the current legacy game engine, once the game, graphics, space & planetary terrain engines have been updated, the replacements will start being implemented.
Because of the critical nature of upgrading the aforementioned engines, at some point, there will be a huge gap between updates; and some of those updates will have various features disabled, or just plain broken.
But as this DLC is a separate add-on, if this happens, you can uninstall the DLC, and still be able to play the base game. Then when things are back to normal, you can just re-install the DLC. All this can be done from within the Steam interface, and no messing with patches and such.
Going to release one more patch for the remaining (see changelog) known issues in the coming weeks. Then we're going dark for a few months; after which the first major 3.0 update lands.
WHAT'S NEW
Split to v3.0 game engine kernel
This DLC is based on the 3.0 game kernel (which includes everything in 2.0), and future updates will reflect this.
If you have the DLC, you will have the new main menu image, and your version number in the lower-right corner will show v3.0 or higher.
If you only have the base (freeware) game, you will see the old main menu image, and your version number in the lower-right corner will show v2.00.02 (the final update to that product).
You will now also see two separate launch options when you try to run the game. The first one runs the freeware game. If you have the DLC, then a second option will be displayed, and which runs the DLC build.
On-going cleanup of legacy modules with minor fixes, preparations for the next "big" thing etc
Added final main menu image for The Lyrius Conflict DLC
All legacy 4:3 resolutions have been deprecated (removed). 1280x720 (720p) is now the default.
The INI file can still be edited to force any desired resolution
FIXED: Various Frontend issues in Navitron, Tactical, Roster, Miscon
NEW BUILD NUMBERS
As development is now in full swing on the DLC, we have split the builds.
This DLC is based on the 3.0 game kernel (which includes everything in 2.0), and future updates will reflect this.
In the next six months to final release, there are going to be on-going fixes, tweaking etc to the underlying game engines.
During that time, all the new content (art, models, terrain textures, fx etc) will be replaced with the more recent ones. As most of this content cannot be used in the current legacy game engine, once the game, graphics, space & planetary terrain engines have been updated, the replacements will start being implemented.

A final price tag was set, due to the huge amount of work involved in this makeover. For a limited time only, it is available at a discount.
If you don't see the discount as being active, please check back later.
Given the nature of the game, the size of the audience, and the amount of work involved, once this discount period ends, and the game's final price is restored, we won't be dropping it again. Don't say we didn't tell you.
As with our upcoming Line Of Defense game, we will be making regular updates right through to the final release around the end of this year. Then depending on the number of sales, feedback etc, we will decide what form the second, third and future DLC will take.
Even though nobody is making these type of niche games any more, I know that there are quite a number of you out there who love this series, and would like to see it continue. So, this is for you.
GAME DOCS
This is a very complex game, so you need to get all the docs and cheat resources.
The base game has docs (93 pages), commands (6 pages), tutorial (97 pages) built-in. You can access them using SHIFT+H, ALT+H, CTRL+H.
For printing, we also include the PDF versions. The Steam installer should do a silent install. If this fails for whatever reason (e.g. OS permissions), please follow this procedure to install them.
Look in the Steam's game install folder e.g.
C:\Program Files (x86)\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Universal Combat CE v2.0
There you will see UCCE20_steam_shortcuts.exe
Please run that file to do a silent install of the docs and other resources (e.g. cheat codes!)
You can then locate this folder in Start/3000AD/Universal Combat v2.0 Docs
UNIVERSAL COMBAT ADVANCED
Going forward, depending on how this DLC goes, the next full game in the series is probably Universal Combat Advanced.
This all-new massive game, with a new game will take the series in a bold, new and unprecedented direction.
Being built on a new engine framework means amazing planetary bases, interiors of all stations, capital ships (carriers, cruisers, transports) and key buildings in the entire game, higher quality art and model assets etc.
Imagine sitting in the bridge of your Engstrom class carrier, looking around and seeing your NPC crew at their stations, moving about etc. Or hearing the warning sounds of the ship's alarm as intruders board the ship. At which point you leave the bridge, race through the ship alongside your marines, as you engage intruders.
Pretty much everything you currently see in the current game's PERSCAN computer (2D UI interface) will come to life in full 3D, and with you in the center of the action.
We can do this. The tech is here. And if you're playing LOD, then you already knew that.
State Of Play
The changelog for the upcoming v2.00.03 have been updated.
This patch is only for the paid version, but will also be incorporated into the upcoming paid DLC, The Lyrius Conflict, which is exclusively for the Steam version.
What we are going to do is, since we can't flag a DLC as Early Access, as advised by Valve, we are going to enable the store page with a notice that it is work-in-progress. Just like Early Access.
Doing it this way, if you have the free Steam version, you can just buy the DLC and get immediate access to on-going releases to the game which include bug fixes, tweaks, new features (e.g. official Windows 10 support), as well as the DLC content (wait for the page to go live to see what's in it).
A minor out-of-band update for the free version has now been released. This fixes some minor Frontend and other graphics glitches. There are no other changes.
A larger update for the paid version is still in testing, and coming soon.
Review the changelog to see what is coming in the 2.03 patch of the paid version.
