2 Weeks ago we started our test-run of our new bi-weekly Challenge "TrackRace". What can we tell you - people went crazy and broke each others record over and over again. ManiaKK, BasstoMouth and TenLetters are the ones that had the longest track created in those 2 weeks: 4321m - what an achievement!
This time, we wanted to spice things up a little - so without further ado, here is your next Challenge:

The Frosty Extra Update

As is customary we've decorated Unrailed a bit and added a freshly-baked gingerbread man as playable character. Also new: in-game highscore leaderboards with the option to watch the replays of the top players!

2nd Early Access Update

Alright, time for update number two. It's a smaller one but it comes with two frequently requested featuers - new languages and savegames:
Languages are pretty self-explanatory (and featured in another post), but let me say a couple of words about savegames: We know they are a controversial feature because on one hand, they allow inexperienced players to progress faster, but on the other hand it might take away from the roguelike core of Unrailed.
We decided to tackle this problem in two parts: Part one allows you save and quit at each train station and continue if you return - but there is still permadeath - if you crash you have to begin from scratch. This is just a convenience feature for people that want to split their sessions into parts. Part two enables players to progress in the game without having to restart from the beginning if they crash. Here the first station in each new biome acts as a checkpoint. This means you'll still have to work quite a bit for each checkpoint, but allows you to learn quicker from your mistakes. However, games with checkpoints activated are not shown on the online leaderboards.

A big ""Thank you!"" to you all, delivered in our own, special way. Granted, our game doesn't have that much text, but we still want to make your gaming experience as enjoyable as we can. That's why we bolstered our localization with various new language options:

The Spooky Extra Update

1st Early Access Update
Our wee little track-building game is now already about a month and a half old! It was a blast to see the community grow this fast and wholesome. Our Discord has reached 2'500 members and Unrailed has been watched on Twitch alone for over 600'000 hours. Even from a competitive standpoint new heights were reached: The previous record featured in our last post has since been beaten by one of nearly double the distance!
Since launch we've wached on all these channels for feedback and new content ideas. And we distilled parts of that into our first update. Check a look at the follwing graphic to see what we added and improved:

As we already talked about in our recent Community Recap #1 you guys are crazy about proving yourself against your friends and/or rivals. Some more than others - for example, look at Astonkin, QuantillusVarus, Bulba and oilbucket (who got disconnected in between).

This enthusiastic group of our community members came together to create our first official Record: 2.748m Distance. It took them 4 hours and 15 minutes and a lot of nerves, but in the end they succeeded in becoming record holders.
We enjoy the passion you are putting into Unrailed! and even if we cant promise much at this point in time, you can be sure, that we are planning to support this enthusiasm as good as we can and keep on working out those aspects of the game, that our playerbase already is going crazy about - so keep your eyes wide open, so you won't miss our upcoming events.

Hey, railroad workers!
It has now been precisely one week since we dived deep into Early Access territory and presented our precious indie game Unrailed! to the public. And what a week it was โ the sheer amount of feedback you guys have been delivering on Discord or Steam is mindblowing. And we are already on it.
Feedback
Since most of the things you are bringing to our ears need some tinkering in the code, it's only realistic that it takes a bit longer to fully implement gameplay feedback (When it comes to hotfixing issues, you can see here the urgent fixes we did right after Early Access Launch) โ but that was not everything you were talking about in the last 7 days: Aligned to your feedback we reworked a lot of our Discord Server:
Content Ideas Even though we already have some great plans of our own, we still appreciate and value the big Hive Mind โ so keep those brilliant thoughts coming, who knows, maybe you will find your new idea in the game sooner or later.
Streams Since Unrailed! is connected to Discord you can easily stream your gameplay via the Discord Feature โ but if you are streaming on another plattform, feel free to leave us your link, so we can say hi!
Competitive Unrailed! might be a co-op spectacle where you work together to achieve your goal โ but seemingly that doesn't stop you, our community, from trying to test yourself against other players as well. This is why we created a brand new "competitive-section" on our Discord Server, where you are able to share your Distance Highscores or Speedrun Records!
If you already want to test your skills: We found a particularly tricky Seed, which some players of our community declared "unbeatable" โ why dont you give it a try? It is Seed ZH86cCs
Experimental Branch As some of you seem to be crazy scientists in your free time, we want to give you the possiblity to test our newest inventions (balancing and/or small reworks) โ before they are "save". If you dont shy away from possible crashes or bugs, feel free to reach out to "Penta der Panther" or the Developers in our Discord Server.
PAX West 2019
Our trip to Seattle right before the Early Access Launch was a great way of seeing player reactions first hand - especially since some people might say, having your teammate right next to you opens up a whole new layer of "fun". Seeing you interact with each other โ and seeing that the crowd got hyped up watching you wiggle through the maps โ was the most wonderful thing we could have experienced.
