USC: Counterforce

Our reference: Aliens!

Alien lovers,

One of the main references for the game USC Counterforce is Aliens (1986) by James Cameron.

Read more about what Aliza, Lead Programmer, has to say about it:

I will definitely start with James Cameron's Aliens (1986), the sequel to Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror masterpiece Alien (1979).

Aliens expands into the lore of what the Xenomorphs are as a species, and pits a squad of hardened marines against them, far away from any reinforcements or help. But, contrary to the original movie, it is shown the aliens, though lethal, and very terrifying in many ways, especially with their reproduction cycle, are indeed vulnerable, and these brave soldiers at least have some fighting chance. Humans also have what the Xenomorphs don't: technology, including nuclear warheads, and mechanized forklifts :) and airlocks, which ultimately lead to the demise of the hive and the alien queen.

I was about 12 when I saw the two movies, and ever since then, I was fascinated by the grim futuristic take on world-building and the mystery of the aliens.

USC tries to summon the atmosphere--marines with state-of-the-art technology arrive to clean up the planet after a mysterious incident with some "aliens", that turns out to be not really more than animals--or maybe there's more about them? The task force is separated from any help and must fight for survival after things take a turn for the worst. Also, the in-game "head camera" is directly inspired by the body cameras in Aliens. In the Campaign, you'll also be able to launch tactical nukes on the planet's surface to eliminate nests, or hordes of aliens that are converging on your planetside positions. "That's the only way to be sure!"

Our announcement trailer is out now!

Hello space explorers!

We're happy to share with you the announcement trailer of USC:Counterforce.

We hope you'll enjoy it!

New Demo version now available!

Hello Commanders,

Version 0.4.0 (Alpha 4) of the Demo is now available. It brings many fixes to various issues large and small encountered since the last version, small balance changes, and finally, dedicated melee weapons!

Bashing a worm with the stock of your assault rifle is not the real way to go. Now you can try a bit more sophisticated approach with a fine selection of tools:
-- the USCF CK-20 combat knife,
-- the KS TPR-6A "Raskolnikov" frontier axe,
-- the Hypnos R2 stun baton,
-- and the YSW Masamune-series E4 katana.

A riot shield is also available as an off-hander if you're willing to sacrifice some mobility for defense.

Please note that the rules of melee combat slightly differ from that of ranged combat. Scoring a hit is much easier from fully, or at least from partially behind your target. With the dedicated melee weapons you can also cause debilitiating hits that weaken the enemy, and more bleeding wounds. Their main strength is, however, is that they provide a MUCH better Melee Defense Value, especially in Defense Mode.

Critical hit calculations for ranged hits have been changed; weapons with a high armor penetration should be able to function as before, while weapons with a low ArP are now prone to cause less damage against armored targets even if it's a critical hit.

A fully detailed Game Guide and Tutorial will be available in the future. Until then, feel free to experiment with all kinds of stuff!

Happy hunting! ;-)
