What's new for Vagrant Fury this Halloween season:
POWER UPS
The Player now has two types of powerups, which he can activate after he has shot enough baddies. A reminder screen will pop-up to... well, remind you to use your awesome powers!
The first type of powerup is Offensive: it allows you to inflict more damage per shot, and dispatch baddies more quickly.
The second type of powerup is Defensive: a shield will appear around you, greatly reducing the damage you receive, thus allowing you to tank it when a baddie somehow manages to throw a giant rocket at your face:
SUMMONS FOR THE BOSSES
When a main boss gets too much damage for his liking, he'll summon a special attack with his Magical Cheesy Summon Pose. The special attack will persist until you defeat the boss.
INTROS FOR THE BOSSES & SUB-BOSSES
The bosses & sub-bosses now have animated intros to introduce them:
OTHER STUFF
Last, but not least:
All the bosses and sub-bosses have music themes now, if not making them more friendly, at least making them more trendy!
The gameplay for all levels has been tuned up to account for the player's powerups as well as the bosses' summons. This includes weapon damage, ammo, health stats, etc.
2018.2 Update - Vagrant Fury v1.3
WHAT'S NEW
We now have Partial Controller Support, most stuff resembling an Xbox controller should work (you only need a keyboard/mouse for the menus).
New enemy class: Grenadiers. These chumps take cover in a high place, and throw grenades at you. Watch out for those sneaky rats!
UI improvements; new Timer design, and multiple kills pop-ups:
OTHER UPDATES
<*>Improvements to the weapons (they're more balanced now in terms of power/ammo, we believe);
<*>Lots of SFX improvements: new death sounds for the enemies, more intro songs for the sub-bosses, and other fine-tuning;
<*>The final boss fight now has skippable text, for those with an itchy finger.
New Enemy Class - Bazooker
As we said in the previous post, there's a new enemy class in town: The Bazooker. The mightiest within the musclebound Tanker class, they control the different sectors of the neighbourhoods, and take orders only from the Sub-bosses. They're heavily armed, and they have the high ground. Watch out for these fellas!
2018.1 Update
Highlights of this update (more updates coming regularly this month!):
<*> Added special enemies at some keypoints in the levels, making them more challenging;
<*> Pickups now have a UI helper above them, and a more consistent pickup behaviour;
<*> The first cutscenes are now shorter;
<*> The level designs have minor changes;
<*> Slight revamping of the store page.
The Goat is Out of the Bag
Bad joke aside, VAGRANT FURY is finally out! We're a small indie studio, so for us to finish another project was immensely satisfying and life afirming.
We knew making a 3D game would be quite a task for an indie (whatever that term means nowadays, when 'indies' have budgets in the millions, and the backing of big publishers). Just to give an example: although pixel/voxel graphics are deceptively 'primitive', they present their own set of ragequit-inducing difficulties, specially when doing all assetwork in-house.
The plot, we hope, has universal appeal, but will amuse mostly those who grew up (or wish they grew up) in the Eighties. It's easy to get too snarky and 'meta' when referencing the Golden Age of Musclebound Rocket Launcher Heroes(tm), but we hope the references stayed light-hearted enough to evoke nostalgia instead of mere sarcasm.
We hope everyone who buys and plays VAGRANT FURY has a nice experience. If not - tell it to us like it is! We appreciate any feedback you can give us (it is said that goats can stomach almost anything). Thanks for reading, thanks for buying, and thanks for playing!
