Vertiginous Golf Online Multiplayer Update Out Now!
Hello golfers! We know it's been a little quiet on the greens these past few months, but today we can prove the wait has been worthwhile. After countless hours of development and testing, we would like to present the Vertiginous Golf Online Multiplayer Update!
http://youtu.be/floYZgCH324
Vertiginous Golf has never been your average golf game and the developers wanted to keep that a recurring theme when it came to online. As a result we have strange and wonderful modes waiting for you all.
Arena mode - players need to sink their ball into holes spread across the spiraling course to "control" them. Picking up coloured eggs will unlock special attacks that can be performed by controlling your hummingbird, allowing you to attack your foes and defend your turf. It takes a few turns to get the hang of, but it's a crazy amount of fun.
Race mode - there are a few race courses in the game where you will be trying to navigate the course as quickly as possible. Once again you collect eggs to unlock fuel for your Influence Bug and weapons to mess with your competition. You can also turn weapons off in this mode if you want the feeling of a pure race, but where's the fun in that? :stuckouttongue:
Classic mode - this is essentially the same as the offline multiplayer where you simply play a game of golf. There are a few handy twists available; first of all you can turn weapons on or off which spices things up and you all take your shots at the same time which means you’re not sitting there waiting for your friends to make a move.
We're going to let you guys experiment with the new game modes, but as always we want all of your feedback. In the next few weeks we will be organising a series of community play sessions where you can face off against Paul, Christian and the Surprise Attack Games team to see who is the best golfer across the skies! Until then, enjoy! - Steve
Community Narrative Initiative #1 - Help Us Write The Paper
Hello Golfers. You may have noticed that we have been a little quiet here for the past month. Paul and Christian have been slaving away on their unique vision for the online multiplayer. I'm happy to report that we have just had our first internal test of the crazy new mode and there will be opportunities for you guys to help us with further testing in the coming weeks so stay tuned.
Today I want to talk to you about narrative. One of the best aspects of Vertiginous Golf is the rich world we have developed. While the major story beats are being handled internally, we thought that crowd sourcing the supplementary content from fans would be really rad so today we're throwing out our first community narrative initiative.
We're asking fans who wish to participate to write some front page material for the VG newspaper! You can write your articles about anything you think would belong in the crazy, steampunk world of Vertiginous Golf, as long as they are within the following guidelines:
Headlines are no longer than 7 words
Article body is no longer than 150 words
No lewd or offensive material
Optional to include a picture
Below you will find examples of the current news stories:
LEGAL BATTLE BETWEEN INVENTOR & PROPERTY MOGUL
The Supreme Court of Scudborough is to begin its legal proceedings between Edward V Frohlich, the Inventor of the Vertiginous Levitation System and Marcus Frederickson, the billionaire property mogul.
Marcus Frederickson claims Edwards levitation system, which is used to levitate plots of land above the Vertiginousphere and sell on to prospective Elites is illegally circumventing Scudborough's "Ground Rent" legislation. Due to Marcus's percentage share in land, this would entitle him to 90% of said Ground Rent.
Edward’s defense is based on the fact the land was purchased legitimately and due to the land no longer remaining in its place of origin, it is exempt from being subject to Ground Rent.
We will report on this as events unfold.

SEVEN HEADED DOG FOUND ON MOON!
A seven headed dog has allegedly been found on the moon says PESA Scientist.
Following the recent attempt to land an automated eye glass on the moon, which was thwarted by a rogue meteor earlier this week, Scientists have discovered imagery captured by the eye glass before it was blinded and slung out of orbit by a large particle of space meat.
Scientists conclude that the meteor and the blurry image of what can only be described as a seven headed dog are connected and people should look out for falling meat from space.

LOCAL MARKET FOUND TO SELL FAKE VEG
Penckington Market has been found to be selling fake cabbage. If anyone finds their cabbages are fake then the local fake cabbage police have urged the public to come forward and submit their fake cabbages.
Do not eat the affected cabbages as they can result in heavier flatulence than usual.

Update 0.54 is off to the races!
Hello golfers! A quick update this week, one that focuses on the Race hole type which we really would love some feedback. Unfortunately the YouTube gods don't want me to upload the flyover video this week, but the latest update on Steam will get you set up on the starting line.
Paul and Christian have made significant changes to the first prototype of the first Race hole, so we have reset the leaderboards as a result. They are also debuting a brand new Race hole for you all to explore, and we'd love for you to provide us some feedback in the Race feedback discussion.
Changlong is below, and we'll post that video as soon as the YouTube issues are soted. - Steve
Changelog - v0.54 - 01/08/2014
Updated new Race 2 hole
Removed the shattering glass from the end of the race holes
Updated the hummingbird so you can use it during the shot
Update 0.52 arrives, completes the Mini-Green course
Hello golfers! Another week has passed, and after the success of the first VG Cup, Paul and Christian have delivered another content-filled update!
Update 0.52 adds the final 3 holes of the Mini Green course. Golfers will be forced to contend with winding paths, filled with conveyor belts, not to mention some truly cruel free-stroke hole placement. If you manage to get to the final green, you'll often have to adjust your strategy to deal with the various bumps and hills surrounding the hole.
It's fun, but as someone who overly relies on the Influenza bug, which is not included in the Mini-Putt courses, my scores were astronomical at first. After a few rounds with it however, I settled into the groove and now I think I can compete with the rest of you.
Changelog is below, leaderboards have been reset, and we'll be back next week with another update. Don't foget to stop by the various discussions we have on the hub! - Steve
Changelog - 0.52 - 18/07/2014
Added Holes 6 to 9 to complete the Minigreen 1 course
Fixed issue with gamepad trigger pads still working when "Disable GamePad" option is enabled
Meditation hole 7 fixed issue with ball getting stuck on roof
Updated roof object to prevent balls getting stuck
Updated code to prevent shot finishing when ball not on the ground
Extra code to prevent after-touch bug issue not reseting at end of each shot

Happy Monday golfers! Just a quick wrap-up post to announce the winners of the very first Vertiginous Golf Cup! Thanks to all those who logged scores on the community voted Median course over the weekend!

2nd Place: Unanimousmaneki
3rd Place: Hobbes
Congrats to the winners! You all played well, and to tell you the truth, seeing old Hobbes coming in at third just proves that he's finally got some work to do!

We'll speak to you all on Friday with another VG Update - Steve
Update 0.51 brings mini-putt madness, VG Cup now open!
Hello golfers! This week Paul and Christian have been creating holes like madmen, and as a result we have five new Mini-Putt holes for you guys to test out! Check out the latest course flyover to get a sense of what awaits you.
Taking the concept a little further than the last Mini-Putt offering, golfers will find themselves already inside a bigger, bolder green room with nothing but their putter and rewind. From there you will have to navigate the dips and hills of the five challenging greens that await you in this update. It's a lot of fun, and it will hopefully offer an entirely new kind of challenge.
We have had a few reports that some gamepad users can no longer control the menu selection, having to reach for their keyboards and mice to start the game. If you are experiencing this issue, please give us your Operating System, Gamepad information (model and wether it's wired or wireless) in this bug thread. Upon further inspection, some of the developers aren't having the issue, and some of us are, so we are currently trying to track and elimiate the issue.
Onto more important things however, the very first Vertiginous Golf Cup has officially started! Over the next three days, the top three ranking players on the finished Median course will receive some sweet swag and be crowned the VG champions. Jump into the registration thread to participate and track the progress!
Finally, we just kicked off a retro gaming discussion of awesome thread where the Vertiginous Golf team has been sharing their collections and memories. If you're an enthusiast, or you just want to share some of your favourite retro gaming moments, jump in!
Good luck over the weekend folks! It's going to be fun! - Steve

Update 0.50 completes the Median Course!
Well folks, the first community voted update is complete! Version 0.50 rolls out the final two Median holes to deliver the first 9 hole course based on community votes! It's been an interesting month or so as we have released the new updates, gathered your feedback, and then push out the next update. Thanks to everyone for being so involved! Without further adieu, here's the course flyover for holes 8 and 9!
Hole 8 offers up a sea of red conveyor belts that will require some real precision to navigate successfully, before landing in a sprawling green room that has its own challenges. Hole 9 is a myriad of loops and belts that eventually throw you into a mountainous green room that is picturesque, yet deadly.
As always the leaderboards have been reset, so now its your chance to log in some high scores. Early next week we will begin preparations for the first online Vertiginous Golf Cup, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for that information. We have some sweet swag to send out for the top three golfers, so it should be a bit of friendly competition to get people playing over the course of a weekend.
Changelog - 0.50 - 04/07/2014
Added Holes 8 and 9 to complete the "Meditation" median style course
Added a "Disable GamePad" option so gamepad/joystick input axes are ignored in game
Welcome new golfers! Since the Steam Summer Sale kicked off last week, we have enjoyed an influx of new players putting across the crazy greens of Vertiginous Golf. For those new to this community, we try our best to get a new update out every week, so we're back once agian with some new holes for you all to test.
Just like last week's update, Update 0.49 brings in two new Median holes for you to post high scores on. Hole #6 has a myriad of paths to venture down before culminating at a gigantic half-pipe that wouldn't look out of place in a certain arcade skateboarding franchise. Once you reach the top you are greeted by a green covered with small hills that will require some careful boost management to navigate. Hole #7 has free-stroke holes scattered in some very hard to reach places, but we're sure you folks won't have a problem putting our scores to shame! Check out the latest flyover video to see what you are up against.
So next week will see the completion of the first community voted course, which is terribly exciting for us! It's been great working with you all, and we're already planning to host another vote to decide what we deliver next. Of course Christian and Paul are still working on the course editor and character customisation, but while they are getting the back-end ready for your experiments, we can still keep developing new and exciting courses to play on.
The Steam Summer Sale still has a few days left, so don't forget to tell your friends, family, neighbours and pets that Vertiginous Golf is 66% off until the sale is over.
See you on the greens!
Changelog - 0.49 - 27/06/2014
Added Holes 5 and 6 to "Meditation" median style course
Update 0.48 is here - two new Median holes to play!
Hello golfers! First of all our apologies for not releasing an update last week, one of those pesky unexpected turn of events cropped up which delayed last week's Median hole from release. On the plus side, it means we’re releasing two holes in version 0.48, so it all balances out. As always, here's a course flyover to give you an idea of what you'll be up against.
Hole #4 builds on the previous designs, offering a tricky free stroke hole and a tonne of conveyer belts to challenge even the most skilled player. Be careful with that Aftertouch, because once you get into the green room there are a number of slopes that seem intent on pushing you over the edge to waste a stroke. I definitely need more practice! Once you get into hole #5, I'm sure you will notice a new type of obstacle that should surprise you!
Christian has continued his work on the shop and player avatars, and he was excited to share some of his experiences, so I'll let him take over the post from here:
From a design perspective, I wanted to create something that was akin to the usability of the TV menu system in the main shop, keeping it quick to navigate but still keeping the first-person perspective. I decided to split access to accessories into 2 categories and areas of the shop. On the left of the shop is a display case where you will be able to cycle through things like Clubs, Hummingbirds and Influence Bugs, and on the right is a similar display case which acts as a changing room for your avatar and the clothes you will have access to. In order to quickly jump between different items, I created four picture frames either side of the display cases. The two smaller frames will show and help navigate to different categories, while the larger frames will show the list within that category. We still have to test this idea when it’s implemented and hone its usability, but I think it should work well.
Designing the new Median holes has been great fun, which is one of the reasons why we think the course editor is so important to get into the hands of players. I'm particularly fond of the new terrain-based greens, which work extremely well with the Influence bug. Being able to navigate the undulations like you would a bike on a pump track brings a new element to the game. Boost on the down hills to gain momentum to conquer the hills - you can keep up some good speed using this technique without wasting all your rewind/boost power. It's also put a limit on how much you use your club on these new greens which has been a fun bi-product of the new design.
I've also created some longer paths to the green room, and while they may not be the most efficient routes, they offer plenty of opportunity to replenish your rewind/boost power. Whilst these routes can be useful for managing your power in single player, in multiplayer they should become an interesting opportunity to hinder opponents and ambush them whilst on their longer journey. Yes, I know that sounds a little crazy, but we've got some really special plans for the multiplayer!
That's enough from me, so I'll pass it back to Steve. - Christian.
As you can see, Paul and Christian have quite a number of interesting ideas tucked in the background which are being worked on. As we get closer to releasing each new feature, you can expect more posts from Christian discussing the work, the challenges behind the features, and then of course, a chance to test them and give us feedback.
As I'm sure you are all aware, the Steam Summer Sale has begun! We're currently discounted at 66%, so tell all your friends to sign up now and get involved. We've also introduced a four-pack for those who want to share with friends and get ready for the multiplayer, which is also 66% off during the sale.
Once again, thanks so much for the support and we hope you enjoy the new holes. We really appreciate the feedback you are giving us, and you can expect another community vote coming pretty soon! - Steve
Changelog - 0.48 - 20/06/2014
