Want to learn to code / make games?
I'm starting a live online "Coding / Game Dev for Actual Beginners" class! You can find more info and sign up here: http://momijistudios.net/education/
I have 10+ years developing games with Unity
I taught game development at a university for 4+ years
I wrote the curriculum for those classes
The equivalent class would cost about $1,200 at the university. I'll be offering the class for significantly less ($100 - $200)
Patch notes v1.2.0.b16 (5/5/2023)
Hey guys, it's been a while. I hope you're all doing well. I released a small patch that should fix an issue in the Nightmare Arena DLC.
WHAT'S BEEN FIXED?
Fixed an issue in the Nightmare Arena DLC where leaving a skill slot empty in an arena party setup would prevent you from being able to access any arena battles.
Remember if you have any other issues post them in the Bug Reports forum on the Steam Discussions: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1577690/discussions/2/

This post is for more detailed patch notes. Please see the event post in the following link for information on the newly released "Nightmare Arena" DLC and the sticker system! https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1577690/view/6319138589400765828
WHAT'S NEW?
The "Nightmare Arena" DLC is now available! See the post linked above for more information.
You can now collect stickers from enemies! See the post linked above for more information. (Note: You do not need the DLC to use the sticker system. Although there are some stickers that you can only get from the DLC.)
Added a Camera Sensitivity option to the System Options.
[MINOR HOUSE DUNGEON SPOILERS] Added an arrow pointing to the sink to make it more obvious that you're supposed to turn the water on.
WHAT'S BEEN CHANGED?
Damage over time damage (Burn and Poison) was previously calculated based on the user's Magic stat. Now it will be based on either Strength or Magic, whichever is higher.
Stat buff / debuff potency for the following skills has been increased:
Sharpen Weapon
Buy Armor
Dark Energy
Aether Vacuum
The Innkeeper skill will now wake up any other sleeping enemies before putting the target to sleep. Essentially this means you can only have one enemy asleep at a time.
Slightly increased drop rate of all items from monsters. (Pro tip: Don't forget that you can use Tator's Shake Down skill to drastically increase drop rate. Plus there is an accessory that increases drop rate, and you can also get increased drop rate from fighting an orange enemy encounter.)
WHAT'S BEEN FIXED?
Fixed an issue in which items used in battle would not be refunded if you retried the battle.
Fixed an issue in which the page arrows on the Item Box in the Party Menu would not disappear under certain conditions.
[MINOR FINAL AREA SPOILERS]Fixed an issue in which the energy lasers in the final area would not disappear when they should.
Fixed an issue in which the dialog sound effects were not being affected by the sound effect volume control.
Fixed an issue in which you could fall through the hold in Castleton after a certain cutscene.
Fixed an issue in which the Item Box in the Party Menu would not work properly when selecting shields if you had more than one page of shields in your inventory.
Video Game Fables DLC - "Nightmare Arena" + Sticker collecting update!
Hello friends, I'd like to introduce you to the first DLC for Video Game Fables - "Nightmare Arena"!
Aru, Nate, and Tator are whisked away to a dimension of nightmares where they meet the Scream Screen and the Concierge. Enter the Nightmare Arena and battle through over 40 challenging battles with stronger, twisted nightmare versions of enemies you've encountered.
Get awesome prizes including new summon skills that deal damage to all enemies. You can use these items and skills in the normal world as well!
Battles have a limited amount of XP you can spend so you can't just grind your way to the top. Guess it's time to get good!
Along with this DLC there will be a free update to the base game that includes a huge new feature...A STICKER COLLECTION! You can collect stickers from enemies, view them, and place them on pages in a sticker book.
You don't have to have the DLC to obtain and use stickers, but you can only get stickers from the nightmare enemies in the DLC.
Coming out October 25, 2022! (Requires Video Game Fables base game to play.)
Hello friends, I've released an update that gives you music and sound effect volume control from the System Options menu!
WHAT'S NEW?
Added music control and volume control sliders in the System Options Menu. You can access the System Options menu by opening your Misc. Menu (see controls in lower right corner of screen to see how to open that) and selecting System Options during gameplay. You can also access System Options on the main menu before you load your game by pressing the button indicated in the lower right corner of the screen there.
There is now an indicator in the Monstrocomicon of how to rotate the models. You've actually always been able to do this, it was just a secret hehe.

Patch notes v1.0.1.b5 (7/26/2022)
Hey friends, here's an update that fixed Steam achievements.
WHAT'S BEEN FIXED?
There was an issue with Steam achievements where if you returned to the main menu via the Misc. Menu or through the Retry menu after losing a battle and then loaded save data, you would not receive any Steam achievements until you closed the game and opened it back up. That issue is now resolved.
To make things easier for you, I've also added in a feature where when you load a save file it will retroactively go through and give you any missed Steam achievements that you should have earned up to that point in that save file. So all you have to do is (after you update the game) load your save file and you should be all caught up on Steam achievements.
Note: There are three Steam achievements that will not retroactively activate when you load your game. These are the ones for leveling up to 10, 20, and 30. You will have to increase your party level accordingly still to get those achievements regardless of if you've done that before.
Remember if you have any other issues post them in the Bug Reports forum on the Steam Discussions: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1577690/discussions/2/

Patch notes v1.0.1.b4 (7/19/2022)
Hello friends! I've released a small update that fixes some things.
WHAT'S BEEN FIXED?
The issue addressed here has been resolved: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1577690/discussions/2/3466099883224800886/
In the "house dungeon" a character required you to bring her three items. This has been changed so she now requires you to fight a battle, and as a result the previous issue has been fixed.
Fixed an issue with 3 achievements not being obtainable:
Finishing the "autumn level"
2 separate achievements from the final part of the game
Note: If you have already finished the "autumn level" or if you have already finished the game and gotten the star on your save file (indicating you've finished the game), all you have to do is load that save file and it should give you the respective achievements retroactively.
Fixed an issue where if you loaded a save file, returned to the main menu, then loaded an empty save file slot it would just duplicate the previously loaded save file.

Video Game Fables - Patch notes v1.0.1.b2 (7/18/2022)
Hello friends! I hope you're all having a good time with Video Game Fables. Thank you so much for buying the game. I've released a small update that addresses a few issues and adds a few new things.
WHAT'S NEW?
You can now transfer save data from the demo to the full version. If you have save data from the demo, it will prompt you (only one time!) when you start the full version of the game and ask if you would like to transfer data from the demo. Everyone will get this prompt once, even if you've been playing the full version, if you have demo save data.
Don't worry, it's set up in a way that it should not overwrite any existing data in the full version, it will merely insert demo save data into empty slots in the full version. Feel free to decline the transfer if you're not comfortable with that.
WHAT'S BEEN CHANGED?
Added some coins to a section in the final area to make it more obvious that you can climb a certain wall.
Added logo design credits to the end credits (https://twitter.com/Yomigammy).
Clarified weapon type descriptions in the party menu and added more detailed info (i.e. adding actual CRIT % chance increase on the boomerang description instead of a vague "increases chance").
Minor dialog changes.
Gave every monster loot item a use in skill / skill mod crafting:
Deadron Bark - Vampiric Energy (Σ mod)
Heck Snek Spike - Anti-Antidote (Δ mod)
Freezle Chunk - Crystal Shard (α mod)
Balloon Golem Balloon - Airship (Ω mod)
Hatchy Egg Shell - Chef's Special (Ω mod)
Nuphar Mustache - Gator Monument (Ω mod)
Nymphaea Flower - Comet Splash (Ω mod)
Tadpole Bone - Throne Stomp (Ω mod)
Changed a few skill mod crafting recipes:
Crit Tax (β mod) now requires Strong Monster Essence
Innkeeper (β mod) now requires Strong Monster Essence
Shake Down (Δ mod) now requires Strong Monster Essence
Vine Bind (Σ mod) now requires Mighty Monster Essence
WHAT'S BEEN FIXED?
Resolved an issue where you could get stuck when falling off some platforms and permanently lock your game in the "autumn puzzle."
Resolved an issue where some people were having trouble getting into the inn.
WHAT'S STILL BROKEN?
There is a spooky issue that sometimes occurs in the "house dungeon" that initially feels like a soft lock of progression. Check out the details here and what to do about it: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1577690/discussions/2/3466099883224800886/

Welcome to Video Game Fables!
HELLO FRIENDS! I can't believe we're finally here - Video Game Fables is officially released! I've been working on this game for years by myself, so to see it finally become available as a real game today is so surreal, a bit anxiety-inducing, but mostly exciting.
I appreciate everyone who bought the game, and also anyone who's just curious for now. Remember there's a free demo so you can try it before you commit to buying it.

FINAL THOUGHTS Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate you. Remember that I'm a small, solo, indie developer and marketing is hard! Version 0.1.53 update patch notes
Hello, friends! If you found this from Steam Next Fest, welcome, and thanks for checking out Video Game Fables.
I updated the demo to version 0.1.53. As always, if there are any issues, please let me know on the discussion board and I'll fix it as soon as possible. Discussion Board: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1577690/discussions/1/
WHAT'S BEEN FIXED?
Screen overlay UI such as the tutorials and the Monstrocomicon should now work properly on 720p resolution.
WHAT'S STILL NEEDS TO BE FIXED?
There may be some issues with dialog message box position (and possibly some other UI) for resolutions that are not a 16:9 resolution. The game is designed mainly for a 16:9 resolution, so you may encounter some minor issues with any other aspect ratio.
