This time we will focus on one of the most useful skills out there, which will be crucial in all stages of the game. Regardless of whether you are a naked shipwreck, the ruler of a small settlement, or the Jarl of a large community, this activity will accompany you all the time. 🛠️ Roll up your sleeves, everyone, we have a lot of work ahead of us!
Your first contact with crafting 🫰
At the beginning of your adventure, as a lonely survivor, you will only have your wits and your hands at your disposal. And it is at this early stage that your career as a craftsman will begin! Remember that the environment around you contains plenty of resources that can be turned into useful tools 🪨 These may be sticks, stones, lumps of metal, or plant elements. Be sure to collect them all, as you never know when they will come in handy.
The first tools you will craft will be stone tools - simple and low quality, but still helpful and ready to make without any additional help other than your own hands. Handcrafting will allow you to make, for example, a knife, a pickaxe, or a hammer, which will teach you the basics of crafting and tools usage.
During each crafting action, regardless of what item you are creating, the crafting panel will tell you exactly what resources and items you need to proceed. This way, you will always know if you are ready to start your work on the tool or weapon you need.
In pursuit of better quality ⚒️
Once you successfully reunite with your clan, you will quickly discover that stone tools are not enough. Fortunately, the workshop and its workbench will come to your aid. Thanks to the mentioned workbench, you will be able to prepare more advanced tools... as long as you manage to obtain the appropriate resources needed to create them first.
The production of more advanced tools often requires not only valuable resources, but also the preparation of semi-finished products or elements. These may be metal bars, handles, or ax heads. Some of the items are simpler, while others are much more complicated, thus crafting them is more time-consuming and requires, for example, access to a forge or tannery.
As you probably guessed, higher quality tools will allow you to perform new activities (like mining harder varieties of metal ores) or make your work faster and more enjoyable (for example while chopping down the trees) 🌲. Remember that your clan folk can also use various types of tools that you have made for them, and their quality and type will significantly affect their effectiveness.
Top tier weapons, armor and tools 🏅
The culmination of your career as a craftsman will be the creation of magnificent steel tools that are unmatched in speed and efficiency. However, the best of the best are famous for creating beautiful yet deadly weapons and armor 🛡️
When you go to the forest, where you can encounter various types of beasts, you will quickly appreciate the steel spear, which will give you a much better chance of survival than its stone counterpart. The same applies to your warriors, who need good equipment that will help them cope with even the most unfavorable conditions. When you give them high-quality swords, axes, spears, or shields, almost nothing will be able to stop them.
As you can see, crafting is one of the most important skills you can learn. It will be useful to you at every stage of the game and will have a huge impact on the development of your settlement. Remember to always use your resources wisely so that you can freely craft what your Viking community needs the most. Happy crafting, Jarl!

It's time to take care of the bellies of our clansfolk and make sure that their tables will never run out of food, so much needed in the harsh Nordic lands. The specter of famine is one of the Vikings' greatest fears ☠️ so your task will be to make sure that hunger never knocks on the gates of your settlement. But... how to do it?
Farming as one of the most stable food sources 👩🌾
Soil, if used properly, can produce abundant crops that will fill your granaries. Well... easier said than done! Farming requires not only appropriate knowledge and skills, but also specialized tools. But let's start from the beginning - the first step in your agriculture adventure will be choosing the right place where your fields will be created.
Farmer guide - step by step:
1️⃣. Take a moment to walk around your settlement and decide where you want to plant the first farms 🌾 The location should be flat and free from any rocks or trees. When you find the perfect spot, use the radial menu to set up your first fields.
2️⃣. Only fertile soil can grow crops. Therefore, the next step will be to enrich it with a special fertilizer. At this point, you will need a shovel that will allow you to perform this crucial action.
3️⃣. After the fields are made fertile, they need to be dug up and loosened with a hoe. Break through the tough soil, reach the deeper layers, and get it ready for planting seeds.
4️⃣. Now it's time to plant seeds in your fields. Select the crop that fits your needs best (like cabbage, turnips, carrots, grain or other) and spread the seeds across the prepared soil.
5️⃣. And now... we wait! Remember, that while you wait for the harvest, you can take care of other important matters and activities.
6️⃣. The final and most rewarding stage is harvesting. Take your sickle, head to the fields, and gather the golden grain or other valuable crops. Well done! Now your people won’t have to worry about hunger and can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Animal breeding 🐮
Animal breeding is the perfect complement to farming. Animal products will help you supplement your food supply and make your fellow Vikings happier. Animals such as cows and chickens have found their place in human settlements for thousands of years, and your foothold is no exception.
Unlike crops, animals need a roof over their heads 🐔 With that in mind, start by building a Chicken Coop or a Barn to house your first flocks. When the structures are ready, place the animals in them. To obtain eggs, milk or meat, you need to make sure your livestock have something to eat. And this is where agriculture comes in handy!
Your animals will happily eat agricultural produce that you obtain from your fields. Remember to maintain the right balance between what is intended for people and what is intended for livestock 🍽️ By doing so, you will guarantee that your people are fed for good, enabling them to address other vital issues that will further strengthen and enhance your settlement.

It's also worth mentioning that the full version of the game will be much richer in content, with a multitude of new features, events and activities that the player can undertake. The Playtest showcases only a fraction of what awaits us in the future, however we believe it will give you an understanding of what Viking Frontiers is all about.
What awaits you in the Prologue Playtest? ⚒️
A powerful storm took its toll. The remnants of your clan have washed ashore. Supplies, tools and weapons have disappeared deep underwater... The situation looks bleak.
As the leader of the tribe, your job will be to keep your people sheltered, fed, and safe. Explore an unknown island, obtain resources, craft tools, build houses and workshops, cultivate the land, and lead your clan to regain its former glory. Who knows, you might even develop a relationship with the mighty pantheon of Norse gods... or challenge other Jarls.
The main goal of the Playtest is to familiarize players with the basic gameplay mechanics and gather their valuable feedback. Speaking of which, we will soon publish a dedicated Playtest Feedback Form. Be sure to share your feelings and thoughts about the game, alright?

Today, we will immerse ourselves in the spiritual sphere and engage in deep prayers... Sounds mysterious? This is exactly what the Gods of the Nordic lands are like - mysterious, thorny and powerful beyond human understanding⚡ This is why you should always want to have them as your allies! Let's try to gain their favor so that they will help us develop our settlement and guide our swords in the fights against our enemies.
The Pantheon awaits your prayers 🙏
Nordic mythology is full of almighty beings and divine figures. The all-knowing Odin, thunder-wielding Thor, cunning Loki, kind Frigg, and brave Tyr are just to begin with. As Jarl of the Viking clan, you will be responsible for establishing relationships with some of the Gods and, if possible, gaining their favor.
To do this, you will need to take several important steps. First of all, you can only interact with Gods through appropriate sacred places, such as Altars. Altars are ancient, often forgotten and lost landmarks that were used to honor patrons by your ancestors 📜 Your first task, therefore, will be to find the lost Altar in your area, clear it of vines and overgrowth, and restore it to its former glory.
Altars are frequently concealed in secluded mountains or deep ravines, making finding them a true challenge. However, if you manage to reach and rebuild them, the Gods will surely appreciate your efforts.
Rituals as a way of communicating with the Gods 🕯️
Before you begin the rituals and prayers that may draw the pantheon's gaze upon you, you must first rebuild the Altar. The stone slabs themselves, although beautiful and intricately arranged, are not enough. When you're ready, gather the appropriate materials and grab your construction hammer to build an offering bench and place candles, herbs, or other mystical objects.
And so, you are ready to begin! First, decide which God you want to honor with your offerings, keeping in mind that each of them specializes in different aspects of the life of the northern peoples. Let Odin, father of the pantheon, be our example this time, ok?
After selecting Odin as the recipient of our prayers, we must choose what items or goods to sacrifice to pay him tribute. These may be food, valuable animal parts obtained during hunting, all kinds of riches, precious items or weapons ⚔️ The higher their value, the greater the chance of gaining a patron's favor. For each such offering, you will receive Favor Points, which we will talk about down below.
The initial offerings at the beginning of your adventure will be rather simple and "cheap", however, as you progress further, they will become much more significant. Nonetheless, earning Favor Points is a worthwhile investment as they can provide you with...
Gods favors and graces ✊
But why exactly should you seek the support of the Northern Gods at all? What can they offer you that is so valuable that you would waste important resources on their behalf? Well... excellent question!
As you know, religion was an incredibly important element in the life of every Viking, providing them (if they died in an honorable way) a place at the eternally lavish feast 🍖 You, as Jarl, an exalted man created for great purposes, are closer to them than other mortals. This is not only a huge privilege, but also a responsibility.
That being said, it's entirely up to you how you use the Favor Points you earn. By spending them, you can for example ask the Gods to support you in the upcoming battles against other clans 💀 Favor Points can also be spent to perform numerous rituals, which will provide you with all kinds of blessings and graces!
The powerful Gods may therefore back you up in the fight. Thanks to their wisdom, you can accelerate the development of new technologies or ask them for help when your research gets stuck. Sacred entities have the power to clear thick fog from distant areas, allowing you to explore new, rich lands. They are also an element of the Rune system... which we will tell you about in the next entries of our series.
Without the support of the Gods, your settlement will have a hard time expanding its influence and simply surviving. They are an integral part of every Viking's life, including yours... for better or for worse. Fortunately, now you know how to get valuable Favor Points and put them to good use.

From the very first moment you enter the world of Viking Frontiers, you will find yourself surrounded by trees, bushes, dense thickets, and smaller plants like berries and herbs. Many of these pristine areas have never even been visited by any human before. It is this wilderness that will become an indispensable element of the landscape that you will encounter at every step of your adventure... and you should consider yourself lucky! Why is that so?
It turns out that the wilderness (despite its numerous threats) is a source of many valuable raw materials and food, without which your settlement would quickly fall into ruin. As a wise, effective Jarl, you need to recognize both the opportunities and perils that come with venturing into the forests. And so, this is what we will devote today's Guide to - your survival in the mysterious, impenetrable wilderness. It's time to face the power of nature - come with us... and try not to get lost 🦌!
Let the hunt begin 🏹
As we mentioned above, the forest is a source of many important raw materials, including wood, berries, mushrooms, herbs, stones, sticks and... many, many other useful goods. Today, however, we will focus on one particularly important activity that requires appropriate skills and cunning 🎯 It's time to grab your equipment, Jarl. Let the hunt begin...
Since we brought it up, let's start with your equipment, without which no hunt can be successful:
• The spear is considered the simplest, although still very effective hunting tool. It consists of a long handle, ensuring a firm grip, and a sharp tip, whose task is to knock down our prey. The crucial aspect of using this weapon is to quietly approach the target and then deliver a strong, precise throw. The better the materials a spear is made of, the better its effectiveness, so always try to obtain materials that will allow you to make improvements.
• The bow made of an appropriate type of wood allows you to shoot arrows with great speed and accuracy. And so, this weapon's advantage is its ability to make several quick shots, unlike the spear, which only offers a single chance to strike. As the bow and arrows become more advanced, their use becomes easier and more effective, granting you an advantage over forest dwellers.
Now that you've chosen your favorite hunting equipment, let's talk about your preys. The forests surrounding your settlement are full of wild animals, but there is a fundamental difference between their types. Some of them are timid and eager to run away... while others can kill you 💀
The first category consists of foxes, rabbits, and deer, whereas the second includes boars, wolves, and bears. Remember, however, that the greater the risk, the greater the reward!
When sneaking up on animals, try to discover their features, i.e. speed, alertness, range of sight and hearing - each of them has its own strengths and weaknesses. This task may be easier due to the fact that hunting is somewhat simpler at night, and you can enhance your abilities with special ointments and potions.
How can efficient hunting improve the life of your settlement? 🧐
Once you've successfully slain an animal, it's time to gather essential resources. Perhaps the most important of them is life-giving meat, which is an important element of your community's diet. Different kinds of animals provide meat of different qualities, and the best among them allow you to prepare rations that are considered a specialty among your people... mainly because they fill their bellies for a long, long time 🍖
Another important raw material is leather. After appropriate processing at the Tanner, tanned hides become one of the components needed to craft tools, items or armor. Without them, the further development of your settlement would be almost impossible. The same applies to bones, claws and antlers, which are used in rituals to gain the favor of the gods.
The larger and more dangerous the animal, the better its skin, bones and meat 🐻🐗 This is why the bravest hunters hold a high rank in Viking society. In the later stages of the game, you will be able to entrust your hunters with expeditions into the wilderness, although from time to time you should also set an example, and kill one of the roaming beasts yourself!

From the stories you told us, mighty Jarls, we know that once again you managed to tame the unexplored, wild frontiers. You have managed to build solid settlements, ensure the prosperity and safety of your people, and even threaten your enemies with armed expeditions ⚔️ Without a doubt, you deserve to be called a true leader.
However, all good things come to an end... And so, today marks the end of our next adventure in the world of Viking Frontiers, as we have just closed the Demo version of the game. But there's no need to be worried because...

The next important milestone will be the launch of the next new playable Viking Frontiers version, the release date of which we will reveal in the following weeks.
