We are happy to announce that Virtual Surfing has now left Early Access and is available as version 1.0. This is an important step for us, which we have reached thanks to your support.
You have motivated us extremely with your feedback and your wishes for optimizations and thus contributed substantially to the fact that Virtual Surfing has become what it is now. Thank you very much! ːsteamhappyː
What can you expect in version 1.0?
We now offer more languages: English, German, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
First Person View is now available throughout, also when paddling. So you can experience the whole game in first person view if you wish.
With the new slow motion mode, you will be able to do more difficult maneuvers.
Many things have been reworked and improved.
We are looking forward to adding new features in the future and await your feedback!
Update time (Physics on the next Level, Free Surf back, and more)
Complete physics rework
This is a real game changer. The whole game now feels differently. The surfboard sticks to the water. The rails cut through the water. The movements are more radical. The control is now much more direct and faster. You can throw yourself in the action and go with the flow. At the same time the game gets easier and more realistic. Not only the surfing physics, but also the paddling was improved a lot, it is much more intuitive now. We are very happy with it. Let us know how it is!
Free Surf is back
Not much to say, 2 out of 3 weather conditions are playable for all the levels that were locked before. The other ones can be unlocked through the career.
Improved camera and visibility
When the surfer is hidden by the wave it will be indicated with a red outline. You can switch it off, if you prefer. Other improvements were made, for example you can look up when in tube cam mode. You can now also invert X and Y axes for the camera if you like.
Automatic graphics settings
Let us know if the game detects your hardware more or less precise, or if you were able to turn the graphics way more up and still have good FPS, or if you're having bad FPS.
Performance improvements
We hope that especially the ones with weaker hardware will experience a better performance now.
What else?
Many solved bugs and small improvements in the game and menu.
What's next?
This is a rather technical update, but we've got more content coming soon, for example an amazing new feature, where you can surf in slow motion! (For the ones with good graphics cards ;)) But honestly, this is very enjoyable, especially with the new physics!
White Screen Crash on Start Fixed
With the big update some bugs sneaked in. So we are bringing you another small update to fix these.
For some of you the game was exiting after showing a white screen when started. This should be fine now.
Also some minor fixes were added, for example the paddling speed is higher now.
Overall it should give a better experience for many players now!
Have a good weekend and enjoy the game!
Massive Update
Three new levels
Chile
Comes with 3 complete wave and weather conditions. One at night time. Red mountains are around the spot.
Japan
Comes with 3 complete wave and weather conditions. The most beautiful level so far. Great sunsets and stunning water colors!
Pipeline (and Backdoor)
This wave is different, it throws so much water up front and thereby creates a huge barrel!
We made it a bit longer than the real one, but it is strongly orientated to reality. Pipeline, the left, is slower breaking and a relatively short ride. Backdoor, the right, is faster breaking, but if you can hold up its speed, you'll get rewarded with a longer ride.
Comes with 3 complete wave and weather conditions.
Ultra realistic mode
We refined the physics and it's awesome how much this changes.
Once in the main menu (surf lobby), make sure you've got it activated. For our early access community we want to give the possibility to compare the 2 modes.
When activated the surfboard glides super stable, sticks to the water and really cuts through the water. Goodbye RC Surfer! The spray created by the surfboard also looks better with the new mode. All due to the physics refinement, isn't this sick?! Another consequence is that catching waves is harder. Especially the big ones are hard to catch while not steep enough. So you need to get close enough to the breaking point. Also the surfer looses speed quickly when being in non-steep sections of the wave. Tube rides get much better and stable. Remember those bumpy tube rides at initial release? Check it out now: [previewyoutube="K-a8kR2gG7g;leftthumb"]
You'll be noticing a lot of other new stuff in this video too. It's all available right now. You just have to get there in career mode. By default only the first two levels are unlocked. But they are easy to win, and those of you with some experience will quickly advance.
Career Mode
When entering the main menu you'll see that now there are surfing statistics and trophy that can be unlocked. You have the possibility to change or skip challenges, so you can choose which challenges you want to do (to a certain point), but it affects the contest. Hit the dice to get a randomly chosen challenge. Hit the beer to skip a challenge. But watch out for contest penalties! You need to get third place in week F (Finals) to unlock a new level. If you get 1st place, you win a trophy! Grab your board and master those challenges and contests!
Board designer
There are some default pics now that you can choose if you don't feel like browsing the net. Also there was a bug, and some people couldn't open files (made the game freeze). That should be good now.
Crashes
A few bugs that eventually leaded to a crash of the game were fixed.
New types of challenges
For example now you can choose some challenges where you need to collect mines. It's hard but super fun. Better switch on ego cam.
Grabs & Backflips
Your surfer now automatically chooses one of different grabs when your air is high enough. When in the air you have full control of the rotation, so you can do backflips for instance. They don't affect the career yet (don't get tracked). But for our early access community we want to give this to try out. Let us know how you like it!
Have fun!
Major Physics Update - and other stuff too...
PHYSICS
New Possibilities
Radical maneuvers in critical steep sections of the wave
Power turns are much more effective now (stretch your legs once you lean to the side or even the back side for an extreme movement)
Floaters
Aerials without a jump button (hard, but possible)
Loopings, as the wave really catches your board (very hard to do though)
Overall the swallowing when hitting the lip or in the barrel is much much less.
Still not completely gone, but they should only appear with movements that would result in a wipeout because your body would hit the wall. We want to replace these with wipeout animations. A new issue is that the barrel sometimes spits you out when you do a strong turn into it, but this also should be replaced by wipeouts. But overall the surfer lines up much better in the barrel any anywhere else!
POV-CAM (first person view) Once you're up urfing you can now choose between 3 perspectives
New weather condition for Indo A paradise like spot. Crystal clear blue water. Intense radiating sun and sky.
Super glassy! Can see the caustics on the ground very well if shading is medium at least.
An ín-game Tutorial The controls can be studied here. We tested the tutorial without sound. Now there is a big applause for every tutorial step you achieve:) (will be fixed)
We reshaped all the boards Higher quality meshes with authentic shapes.
A few more fixes...
A big thank you to all of you for the discussions which help us to improve further and further.
Your ideas and hints are very precious to us and also all the other content you post like videos and reviews help us a lot!
We just uploaded a video showing some of the new stuff:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIHb3LJW6Ac
If the physics on your machine behave much different to those you see in the video help us and let us know. We want them to be good for everybody.
You can see that snaps and cutbacks are much better.
Absolutely try the stretch legs button to do some powerful turns.
Looking forward to your feedback!
Enjoy!

Achievements!
We implemented some achievements!
Let us know how you get along with them and if they are to hard or easy to get.
Or if you have ideas for further achievements please let us know too.
We also worked on the physics and did a few fixes on controls.
We want to encourage everybody to use a gamepad.
Please let us know if your gamepad does not work, because this game is so much better with it, and we will work on better compatibility.
And we'll be happy to further improve the physics with you to increase both fun and realism!
