Void Destroyer 2

01-20-2023 Stability Patch

Stability improvement - added another pass of removing objects before they are deleted to hopefully "fix" many crash issues.

Removing a deleted object is very important because if a deleted object is used the game crashes. The code should be good enough to always remove a object prior to deletion, but clearly I missed more than one of these, so adding another removal pass should make the game more stable :)

Small Patch - 2 crash bugs - 01/14/2024

Fixed 2 crash bugs and some stability improvements.

Crash bug that happened when a transport ship docked in ship mode, then undocked. If the transport ship had fleet ships, the fleet ships would be re-created causing the crash.

Crash bug that happened on using an active upgrade, then entering the overworld mode. Active upgrade code not properly cleaned up on exiting ship mode.

Tiny patch

Max credit fix.

Small Update - 10/30/2022

While fixing a pretty serious bug in ISG - fixed it in VD2 as well :)

Tiny patch - 7-18-2022

Fix for a particular mission not properly destroying fleet defense ships as intended.

Tiny patch - 6-28-2022

Bug fix with upkeep calculations (if upkeep has been modded).
Few stability improvements.

Focus on...

Ashes DLC released!

Hey guys!

The Ashes DLC is now released!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1383180/Void_Destroyer_2__Ashes/

The Ashes DLC is intended for veteran players of the game as it features two alternate starts. Both give you ownership over a base right at the start of the game. In this play through of Void Destroyer 2 your goals will likely be to raise money and supply the base with ore to start building your fleet.

In the story mode additional ships (destroyer and above) will be unlocked as you progress and in sandbox mode all ships are unlocked right from the start. Either way you'll have access to unique ships with powerful weapon systems, including a dreadnought!

Hope you check out the Ashes DLC and have fun!

As always thank you for your support and feedback.

PS: When I started working on my portion the Ashes DLC I paused work on VD2 polish/enhancements, that work will now resume.

Ashes DLC - Trailer, store page and release date!

Hey guys!

Got some news - another DLC has been in development - Ashes

Similar to the "Big Red" DLC - the Ashes DLC will feature 2 alternate starts.

The goal is to release the DLC on September 8th.

In the Ashes DLC you quickly gain control of a base capable of building ships. In this play through your early goal could be to supply this base with resources to start building up a fleet, mostly bypassing faction missions and instead focusing on generating credits and/or mining. Ore would be very useful in building ships. In story mode - the base will eventually allow you to build destroyer, cruiser and even dreadnought class ships!

The ships - are a bit unique. A "problem" with introducing new DLC ships is that - there are so many ships already in Void Destroyer 2 - so what would be the point of introducing more of the same? The new ships had to be unique to be interesting.

You start with a fighter - with smart projectiles - projectiles that can turn. The gunship launches mines, generating a mine field. The mines follow the ship, making it a mobile mine field. The destroyer will pull in enemy ships towards itself then open up with a barrage of high yield, fast moving, but slow turning torpedoes - fired from missile turrets that can turn toward their target, to give them better firing angles. The cruiser fires a projectile that - keeps going and going and going... Which means that damage will depend on the angle of impact, and what's behind your target.

I hope you guys consider wish listing the DLC (that would be a big help - marketing wise!) and consider enhancing your Void Destroyer 2 experience with it!

The planned price is $2.99 with a 10% discount at launch (the majority of sale proceeds will go to the artist who created these ships).

Please wish list the Ashes DLC store page (this helps immensely in Steam rankings and searches).

Focus on polish.

Hey guys

I'm happy to report that I'm now shifting my focus to be on polish and enhancements. My goal is to release a patch every few days with some improvement to the game. Once I run out of these smaller improvements I'll start focusing on larger more time consuming ones.

The overall focus of these improvements will be on the late stages of the game, reducing micro management, smoothing out frustrations, improving the UI, giving the player more control and options and introducing ways for the player to chose various difficulty/balance options. There's quite a lot of little and big items, including ones based on player feedback and suggestions.

Here's what I've got done in recent weeks -

  • Better UI for mobile base movement
  • Better UI for building platforms
  • HUD Comms - let player know who is talking and their faction
  • Resupply fleet ships on death
  • Give players control over time dilation in overworld mode (speed up time)
  • Toggle for trade ships to use primary/secondary burn while on their trade runs.

On my side the really nice thing is that this is the type of work I enjoy the most. I feel like I've been bogged down with the Soundtrack and Big Red DLCs forever and really wanted to get to this stage, so I'm happy it is here.

yay!

As always - thank you for your support.
