You now have access to your fleet ships in the "Hangar" screen
Hangar/fleet ships now have a list of installed upgrades
You can rename - main, hangar and fleet ships
You can repair - hangar and fleet ships
You can toggle auto repair for your main and fleet ships
You can send a fleet ship to the hangar
You can switch to a fleet ship (making it your main ship)
Can sell fleet ships
So to answer that question - How do I customize/upgrade a ship in my fleet?
Switch to it, then customize as normal, then switch back. Rename the ships to make it easier to tell them apart.
These additions (along with the already existing features) should give you the majority of the tools you need to maintain, customize and organize your fleet.
Hope you enjoy them and if you have any feedback/suggestions/criticisms/issues - let me know.
This week I will most likely spend adding missions - especially to some factions that don't have enough missions to purchase all of their ships.
Also I will continue bug fixing, polish and evaluating your suggestions.
After that?
I will most likely begin the process of adding the ability to capture/steal ships.
And after that?
Most likely the very very early/basics of capturing bases.
Thanks for supporting the project!
Paul
What's been happening and next steps.
Hey guys!
First off - thank you for supporting the project. I think that Early Access has incredible value to developers - and to those players who want to be more involved in the game development process - while enjoying a game in its early stages.
Seems like more and more players are wary of Early Access, afraid to take a chance.
But not you guys! Maybe you were burned in the past or had a bad experience, but that didn't stop you. Welcome aboard!
Without you Void Destroyer 2 would be a weaker product, already you are giving me feedback, criticism, ideas, bug reports and of course tons of encouragement. Thank you!
When future players enjoy the game - I hope that you feel pride in being here - helping that happen.
I have to say that I'm surprised at how much you guys are getting out of the game - I've been caught off guard! That's the funny part of indie game development - it's done in basements with hopes, dreams and a lot of assumptions that can only be tested by tossing it at a wide audience.
That shows in a lot of cases with oversights, bugs, various other issues and things that I need to work on.
Speaking of issues/bugs/etc - I keep "Change Log" on the Steam forums you can find it - here
I was going to post it in this update - but its too big! Its been a busy few days here, and I think I need a new keyboard, but its incredibly motivating and I wouldn't be doing it if I it wasn't a dream - to make an incredible space sandbox.
Besides fixing bugs - I've put in "fun" stuff - usually as the last thing i do before I log off for the night - which in hindsight isn't great because then I'm too excited to sleep.
For example - two new "Primary" upgrades boosting ammo capacity and fire rate - I thought that the weapons upgrade tab is far too empty.
Also a new "Active" upgrade - Gravity Drive Trigger - which pushes you into a very short term hyperdrive. Its becoming one of my favorites.
Here's the plan:
I'm going to dedicate 1/2 my time to bugs and issues.
The other 1/2 is going to be addressing what I believe to be the one of the major issue that is hitting you guys.
Fleet management.
I've been asked "How do I upgrade my fleet ships?" "How do I repair them?" "How do I change my main ship to a fleet ship?" and questions like that and the answer has been - not yet... Well that is my priority now and parts of this should becoming online in the next few days. I didn't expect you guys to get into this aspect so soon.
While I work on that - I'm also going to be working on "nitpicks" - speeding up docking, speeding up leaving overworld. And of course trying to add in more fun stuff - I want you guys to really struggle picking customization options - having too many awesome choices.
Another way to help the project:
Help spread the word. Void Destroyer 2 has some awesome ships - but we need more! Am I right? Tell a friend, tell an enemy, send out a tweet, post on reddit and other gaming forums. If you see a space sim mentioned - mention Void Destroyer 2 as well. I hope that the fun you are having is the marketing department - have fun recounting your adventures to others - let's bring them in to our sandbox.
Once again - thank you - keep playing, keep running into bugs, keep posting ideas/comments/feedback, help out fellow players asking questions on the forums (often you guys can explain things to a fellow player better than I can).
Thank you guys!
Paul
Void Destroyer 2 - Early Access is a Go!
Hey guys!
For most recent patch updates check this post: Link
Very excited to bring you Void Destroyer 2 - and happy that we will make a amazing space sandbox - together.
Its been a long road - since 2009 when I first experimented with rendering engines, struggling to put up a cube on screen.
To make the game the best that it can be - I'll need feedback on the good on the bad and ugly. I'll need criticism, ideas, and just general thoughts that I'll think about in order to improve. I'll need your support and encouragement, I'm not worried, so far I've gotten it, otherwise I wouldn't have made it this far.
Be sure to feel free to ask questions and in case of more serious issues friend me and message me. We'll get them sorted.
I'd like to do some general reminders:
Help for new players - Post Find a crash bug - get a Steam key - Post Latest patch notes - Post
Depending on how launch week goes (if serious issues/bugs show up) is what will happen in the immediate future in terms of game development.
After that the plan is to add in more missions for the Bounty Hunter faction (combat escort) and the military faction (combat scout, and destroy smuggler cache). And keep going from there
As far as new ships - depending on how busy things are - this new light Gunship will make an appearance very soon (hopefully within the launch week).
Its the bigger brother of the Taurus :) - untextured early/wip render.
The goal is to double the current amount of ship available to battle and purchase - with a larger focus on massive ships.
thanks!
Paul
PS: Any and all help to spreading the word, tweeting, posting on forums/online communities, telling a friend or an enemy - are greatly appreciated.
Void Destroyer 2 - New Trailer and Early Access Release Plans
Hey guys!
Another Void Destroyer 2 update.
The goal is to release on Early Access the week of the 26th. Most likely on Thursday the 29th.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/369530/
EDIT: Now planning on releasing tomorrow the 22nd!
I'm going to spend the next week on marketing. Sending out Steam codes to YouTubers and gaming websites, in hopes of getting some pre-launch exposure and hopefully some launch exposure.
A game's launch (even Early Access) is a nerve wracking moment where all the hard work and investment might pay off, or you might find out that you've been delusional. The gaming market is constantly changing, there's a mass of great and horrible games out there for you (and me) to chose from, hopefully at the very least players will be aware of the game to make a choice, versus not even knowing about it.
To go along with the launch here's a new trailer:

As far as what's been going on behind the scenes, here's another dev update vid:
To summarize - preparation for Early Access, including tons of polish, bug fixes, issues, and secondary weapons.
I've also prepared a few vids to introduce new and potential players to the project (you guys are most likely already aware of these elements of Void Destroyer 1 and 2):
Early Access "What is Void Destroyer 2 - Explainer"

YouTube link
Early Access "Flight Controls Basics"

Thanks for all of your support - I hope that you guys will be enjoying the game soon.
Paul
PS: Any help in the marketing effort is greatly appreciated! :)
Quick update - demo going away.
Hey guys - thought I'd drop a quick line to say that the demo is - soon - going away.
Its out of date from the in house build and my main focus is on the impending early access release (hopefully in late September).
I've got a bunch of little things to take care of before Early Access development wise, but there's one huge item that's very important and that is letting people know about the project.
There seems to be a bigger struggle to gain attention, there is a great creative surge in indie games and its easier to get on Steam than ever. So this time around I want to dedicate a good amount of pre-release prep to marketing. I'm hopeful that many of you will also help by letting a friend know and/or posting on gaming communities.
Thanks to all of you who are waiting to experience the game, for those who checked out the demo and those that left feedback.
Hopefully soon we'll all be enjoying the game in Early Access.

Void Destroyer 2 - Kickstarter
The original Void Destroyer - exists due to Kickstarter. With generous support of backers I was able to fund the game, something that I wouldn't have been able to do on my own.
With the great Steam release of part 1 - I'm able to partially fund Void Destroyer 2 - but also decided to raise funds on Kickstarter to help fund the sequel. To make it better than what my funding allows.
If you are interested in supporting Void Destroyer 2 on Kickstarter, check out the project's page:
