Patch 1.0.10d Notes

hey folks,

so, a new push is up on the server, with a couple of important fixes:

1.0.10d

  • Those with high framerates should no longer be seeing weird behaviour with guards and oddities.. they will now actually stay entranced as they should be.
  • Fixed the weird VO ratchetting issue.. we think. It will still come back to the start of each line if interrupted (as designed).. but weird phantom echoes of the same end line over and over should be gone. This is not a 100% repro though, so please let us know if we let one through (preferably with info on the specific line)

Note: Do folks mind me posting these patch notes here?.. want to make sure you're a) informed b) not frustrated by too much spam.

32 hours later... (PlayStation fix, level creator promotion, checkpointing)

Thank you to everyone who has purchased, played, streamed, YouTubed (is the word ‘YouTubed’?.. that sounds wrong) or generally gotten the word out there about Volume. The game’s early success would not have been possible without your support.

We have heard your praise and criticism and are ready to act on both counts. Regarding your praise: we’re incredibly proud of the level design and we’re glad you like the jokes. You’ve also taken a keen interest in the level editor and we recognise that we need to support that interest with promotion of high-quality content (which you’re already producing, seriously, I love some of these levels). After two and a half years making our own work, and one day promoting it, we’re fast realising that the next few months are going to be about promoting the cool work you started yesterday. Let us know what you want in this area :)

In terms of criticism, we hear you loud and clear on the checkpointing. The design decision wasn’t challenging enough for some and we are diving back in to enhance the Volume. For those who were happy with the game’s checkpointing, don’t worry, that’s still going to be there for you. We’re going to augment Volume with a more difficult mode, focused on another protagonist, a tougher leaderboard which rewards pure stealth play, checkpointing only when unseen, and no story to distract you from the thievery. We’ll get a more detailed update out on our plans for this soon.

There are also a couple of smaller tweaks in the works, things like subtitle visibility improvements, better language support, and an even more comprehensive settings screen.

I’d like to thank the steam community, again, for their ongoing help with bugs. We’ve cleared most of the big ones, but we’re not stopping there. We’ll continue to update the game as those fixes get done.

On the subject of fixes, we’ve just fixed a critical bug in the PlayStation version of the game, which has caused save data problems. If you exit a level at the exact moment you are shot by an enemy the game crashes. We apologise for this. The fix is now with the folks at Sony, and will be automatically applied to your game in a couple of days (after it has been through their QA processes).

Thank you again for your purchase of the game. We are listening, and hope to support our growing community in the Volume.

Day 1.. about to fall asleep at my desk

So. Wow. It's been amazing. I've been up since 12AM Pacific, and will likely be up *til* 12AM Pacific. Game has reviewed really well.. could not be happier at the result, or how warmly the Steam community has welcomed our little game.

So, thanks, it's been a fun day (and looks set to continue being so). I'm going to send my coder, Roper, to bed.. because it's late here in the UK. I wanted to post a list of fixes we've gotten into the game today. We couldn't have done this without the epic bug list forum thread, and the patience with which you've all walked us through your issues. Excited to get back to work tomorrow ;) first job is fixing that bloody dialogue ratchet.

v1.0.0 - v1.0.2
Improved thumbstick deadzones in settings menu

v1.0.2-v1.0.8d
Fixed issue with negative times being uploaded to the leaderboard
Fixed issue with a chance that the time for a level would be uploaded for the next level
Ranks now show for core-levels leaderboard times
Widened leaderboard display to accomodate longer usernames.
Changed how pause is triggered via the overlay (should fix the camera bobbing bug)
Fixed issue with the game resetting, if you were shot during the win-sequence on a level
Prevented the win-sequence from triggering if you were shot _before_ entering the exit tile
Activating a checkpoint during slow-mo of being shot, no longer sets that checkpoint
Fixed achievements not being triggered
Previously awarded achievements should trigger upon loading this patch

note: leaderboards will still have errors on them caused by the bugs above. I'll be doing a sweep tomorrow to clear these, but there's no point doing so until player base have by and large updated :)

You did put the kettle on, right?

SEVEN DAYS!

That's a bit scary. Some of the press are starting to play, with more coming shortly. There is now a time on the leaderboard which I am incapable of besting. Feels good to now be the second best person in the world at my own game.

So hang tight. Get ready. We've announced pricing ($19.99/£14.99/€17.99) and I've finally gotten all the badges set up. Just fixing a few last bugs.

See you Tuesday, August 18. Thanks so much for arriving early.

Mike

We're on our way, put the kettle on.
