A big year of VR Regatta is over, with huge news to come! đšâ”
Hello there, digital sailors!
2017 is sailing into the sunset, bringing to an end our biggest year so far of appearances and demos for VR Regatta. Weâve had a very eventful twelve months, and 2018 is already shaping up to be even busier!
Here is just a sampling of the things we got up to during 2017:
â” MarineVerse was officially incorporated as a company in Australia.
â” We demoed VR Regatta several times in our hometown of Melbourne, including exhibiting at PauseFest, an event dedicated to innovative technology and exciting startups, and giving racing fans a taste of sailing at the Australian Grand Prix in cooperation with Australian Sailing. We also showed it at the Melbourne Boat Show, the Royal Brighton Yacht Club, and more.
â” We travelled around the world to show off our game, including demonstrating it to experienced sailors at the Singapore Yacht Show and partnering with M&G team to deliver a virtual sailing experience at a conference in Davos, Switzerland.
â” It gave us a great sense of validation to be awarded a production grant from Film Victoria to help us develop our game by hiring some talented new people.
â” An astonishing 4,000 virtual sailors in over 80 countries played VR Regatta in 2017.
We already have big plans for 2018, mainly the official launch of the game in the first quarter of 2018. Stay tuned for our release date! After our great experience this year, we will also be returning to PauseFest 2018 to exhibit again.
Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who has played our game, given us feedback, reported a bug, or done anything else to help make VR Regatta: The Sailing Game even better.
Itâs been an incredibly challenging and exhausting year with a lot of hard work and long hours of travelling, but itâs worth it to work on a project that we love so much. You can keep up with the latest by following us on Twitter or checking in on our blog.
What are you looking forward to in 2018?

VR Regatta 0.7.1 - Upgraded sailboat
Ahoy Friends,
We've just shipped VR Regatta 0.7.1 - featuring new upgraded dinghy model with shiny textures.
Let us know how you like it and what would you like to see improved next ( https://trello.com/b/rPJvOyB9/vr-regatta-public-roadmap ).
In terms of graphics improvements, our next target is to bring similar level of polish and quality we now have on a dinghy to our existing yacht ( made last year and due to some good paint refresh :-) )
Also, just a heads up - we are planning to leave Early Access with 1.0 release - it's still some time away, but with 0.7.1 we are slowly but surely approaching this milestone. Let us know what things in your opinion are crucial to fix/improve before we leave Early Access.
Best regards,
MarineVerse team
VR Regatta 0.7
Ahoy Friends!
Just pushed an update to VR Regatta. On the surface, it may look like not much have changed (if you ignore those new fancy water reflections), however quite a lot have changed under the cover.
This update upgrades game engine and some of the major components (for example the one responsible for water simulation) - so if you notice any problems, bugs or performance regression, please contact us support@marineverse.com
Some of the changes in this version:
Experimental wind sound depending on where the player is looking ( in Tutorial, Race and Long Race)
Option to attach controller to Wheel and Tiller ( use grip button instead of trigger)
Oculus: Using grip instead of trigger to grab things
Experimental game progression system ( see http://steamcommunity.com/app/468240/discussions/0/135509758530163792/ )
Experimental Player's profile ( see http://steamcommunity.com/app/468240/discussions/0/135510393195098530/ )
Performance optimisation: Single pass rendering
As always, looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback :-) ( please contact us via e-mail or comment here )
Best regards,
Greg on behalf of MarineVerse team.
Relaxing in improved Sailboat!
Ahoy Friends ËsteamhappyË,
We've been busy working on improvements to VR Regatta.
Since last update, we added:
New sailboat model in "Sunrise" and "Easy Race #2" levels
Boat tilting based on Players position in levels with smaller boat
Sails flapping when mainsheet is too loose.
Improved mainsheet blocks in "Sunrise" and "Race" level
Ability to give us voice feedback from within a game (thank you for using it, all great suggestions and nice comments!)
We looking forward to hear what you think about the update and what in your opinion we should work on next. Let us know!
Our plans involve: rolling out improved boat in all small boat levels, improving the yacht model and working on AI for races (see full road-map here: https://trello.com/b/rPJvOyB9/vr-regatta-public-roadmap )
Best regards,
MarineVerse Team (Greg, Olga, Nate & David)
