Introducing Desktop Mode: A new way to watch VR content

HUGE update for y’all today: We’ve added a brand new feature that allows everyone to watch their favorite VR content creators in Vreal - no VR headset required! (WHAAAAT?)

Introducing Desktop Mode, an immersive way to experience VR content made in Vreal. Using the WASD keys and your mouse, you can move around anywhere within the game, giving you full control of where you want to watch from; it’s your very own spectator mode for VR game content in Vreal.

Here’s our dev update video that explains all the things!

https://youtu.be/IARueR6ENXU

BTW, recording VR content in VR requires a VR headset. If you’re a content creator passionate about building the VR community, please join our Discord.

Our supported VR games now include Gunheart, Tilt Brush, GORN, Blocks, Fantastic Contraption, SUPERHOT VR, and Hot dogs, Horseshoes, and Hand Grenades. More games are coming, and VERY SOON! *wink wink*

Update notes:

  • Introducing Desktop mode: Watch recordings without the need for a VR headset
  • When launching Vreal from Steam, you can choose to launch the app in VR mode or Desktop Mode. Note: recording is only available in VR Mode

When watching content in Desktop Mode, use the following controls to navigate:
  • WASD - 4-directional movement
  • Q and E - move down and up
  • Spacebar - automatic teleport to player
  • Esc - Opens the controls menu; in Gunheart, closes the recording
  • P - pause recording
  • Move mouse to look around

Bug fixes:

  • Performance issues caused by leaving selfie cameras open have been fixed.
  • Fixed custom thumbnails sometimes not applying when publishing a stream.
  • An updated list of known issues can be found on our user wiki.

We heart Gunheart!

Howdy folks! We’ve heard you loud and clear, and we’re pleased to say that we’ve added another VR title to Vreal. Please give a warm welcome to Gunheart: the first VR game on Vreal created with Unreal Engine. HOORAY!

We appreciate your support! If you have any questions, or if you want to suggest a new game for us to integrate, or if you have an excellent feature idea, head over to http://support.vreal.net/. If you’re looking for a rad group of VR enthusiasts and content creators, join our Discord!

Without further adieu, here are the known issues for Gunheart:

  • Local Play (offline) mode is not supported.
  • In a co-op recording, spectators will only hear the content creator’s voice. Other players in co-op are seen, but not heard.
  • When watching a Gunheart recording, you won’t be able to create a laser pointer. Instead, you’ll see the animation state of your avatar’s hands change.
  • The camera control board is currently disabled in Gunheart.
  • An updated list of known issues can be found on our user wiki, here.

Party time! Excellent!

The holiday season is upon us, and we couldn’t think of a better time to roll out improvements to the social panel in the Vreal app. HOORAY! The next time you fire up Vreal, you’ll notice the following updates:

  • It's easier to see which of your Steam friends have Vreal. Even if you are friends on Steam, you'll still need to connect through Vreal in order to party up.
  • You can now accept all (YAY!) or decline all (sad panda) friend requests and party invites.
  • Animated notifications for friends and parties now live inside the social panel.
  • Party invites are now formatted like friend requests.
  • The party leader now has a crown icon. The party leader is the person in the group who selects what you are going to watch.
  • We made a visual overhaul of how you see your offline friends, so it’s clearer who is online and available to join a party.
  • When creating a party, we show you empty slots to let you know how many remaining invites you have left.
  • We have new icons for the friend list, add friends, and party management sections on the social panel.
  • The social panel no longer expands to take up the full screen.

This update is super packed and super... hot!

Hey folks! We've got a HUGE update for you today. The latest SUPERHOT VR release on Steam is now available for recording in the Vreal app. And after you publish that first speed run, you can upload your own custom thumbnail (!!) for your content. We've also overhauled how audio is recorded across all games; the player's voice sounds so much smoother. We've implemented a way for you to add friends to Vreal through your Steam friends list, too.

We squashed some bugs (thank you for your bug reports!) and made a ton of other improvements. Check out our dev update video here and see below for the biggest updates and bug fixes in this release:

Updates:

  • Added support for SUPERHOT VR: Record content in SUPERHOT VR! Make sure you’ve got the latest version of the game first, and then apply the Vreal mod.
  • You can now upload custom thumbnails for your content! We accept .jpg and .png file types with a maximum size of 2MB, and a minimum resolution of 800 x 450. If your thumbnail doesn’t fit, the Vreal app will crop it for you.
  • There’s been a massive update when recording the player’s voice. Not only has the audio quality vastly improved, but players can now talk through loading screens while they are recording content.
  • There are now separate volume sliders for the player’s voice, the game’s audio, and the party volume when watching content. Right click on the Vreal icon in the windows tray to find these.
  • Introducing Steam friends integration! You’re now able to send your friends on Steam a friend invite on Vreal, making it much easier to put together parties with friends you already have. And if your Steam friends don’t yet have Vreal, you can invite them to download it through the app. Please note your friends will need VR to watch content with you in the Vreal app.

Bug Fixes:

  • The Vreal app will now let you know when there’s a version mismatch between a Steam game that you can create content with and your Vreal modded version.
  • Your friends’ status when they are watching a stream is now displayed correctly.
  • We’ve improved the spectator spawn positions across all supported games.
  • Fixed several issues with teleporting across areas and teleporting to the player.

Known issues:

  • An updated list of known issues can be found on our user wiki, here.
  • As of this release, we are temporarily retiring support for Arizona Sunshine and Surgeon Simulator: Experience Reality as we make room for new titles.
  • We appreciate your support! If you have any questions, or if you want to suggest a new feature, head over to support.vreal.net. You’re welcome to join our Discord to chat with Vreal staff and meet new Vreal friends!

Vreal support for the latest Tilt Brush release

Howdy folks! Just a quick update to let you know that Vreal now supports the latest version of Tilt Brush. You'll want to apply the update to Tilt Brush first, and then update Vreal. HUZZAH! We can't wait to see what you make! :D

Support for latest Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades release

A quick update today to provide streaming support for H3VR Early Access Update 59 with new weapons, new Sosig Agents and lots more!

Hot Dogs, Horseshoes, Hand Grenades, and Vreal!

Howdy folks! We've added another popular VR game to the Vreal platform: Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades! We can't wait to see what content you're able to come up with! Without further adieu, here are the biggest updates for this release:

Updates:
  • Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades is now supported! Huzzah!
  • The modding animation got a makeover and it is now much more obvious when we are modding supported titles.
  • We cleared up the publishing process by showing a success message if you click publish and stay on the same page.

Bug fixes:

Fan-freaking-tastic!

Hey everyone! We’ve got a fantastic update for you. We’ve just added support for Fantastic Contraption to the Vreal app! If you own Fantastic Contraption, you can create your own recordings in Vreal. We also made a bunch of updates to the selfie cam; thanks to everyone who submitted bug reports.

More games are coming; we read every comment and appreciate your feedback!

Here are the latest updates:

  • Fantastic Contraption is now supported!
  • All menu panels in VR can now be moved with the laser pointer.
  • The time remaining in the current stream can now be seen on the menu in VR.

General bug fixes:

  • Fixed a couple bugs with the selfie camera and with selfie camera photos.
  • We’ve updated the teleporter so that if you point down closer to your feet it will let you "drop down" another level. This fixes the issue with being unable to teleport back to the arena in GORN after going up into the stands.
  • Hover text is now shown for disabled buttons as well as in VR.

Known Issues:

  • An updated list of known issues can be found on our user wiki, here.

SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT!

If you've watched some VR recordings in Vreal, and you thought to yourself... "I could do that." SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT! If you own Tilt Brush, GORN, or Blocks, you can now create your own VR recordings in Vreal.

We have but one humble request: remember us when you're internet famous in Virtual Reality.

We are evaluating the games that you've requested and support for more games is on the way. We appreciate your patience; keep the suggestions coming! :)

In the meantime, here are the latest updates:

  • Blocks by Google is now available!
  • Content creation is open to all users!
  • Our supported titles include: Tilt Brush, Blocks, and GORN. As long as you own a currently supported title, you can record a stream.
  • Before you can publish your first recording, you need to verify your email address.
  • We’ve updated GORN to use the latest and greatest bits.
  • We've included updates to the Vreal app UI
  • The "Record" drop-down menu serves as a quick launch menu, and shows the games that are ready to go.
  • Updates to the Vreal app UI including much larger play and stop buttons on recording thumbnails.

Known Issues:

  • Heads up to all you superstar VR content creators: During Early Access, we can't guarantee that recordings you make now will be available in the long term, due to the need to regularly update the platform with new features and titles. We'll let everyone know in advance (likely through a post here on our Steam community hub) when older recordings will need to be unpublished from the app.
  • An updated list of known issues can be found on our user wiki, here.

Bob Ross and Chill?

Hello friends! Vreal now supports Tilt Brush. After you're done hanging out with all the happy little trees, we've got lots for you to look forward to!

In the next update, everyone(!!!) will be able to make VR content with our app for certain titles (including Tilt Brush). We’re aiming to add another game you can watch, too. While you’re waiting to make VR recordings with our app, try pulling out a camera inside a Tilt Brush recording and take a selfie! :D

Please continue to let us know what games you want to see; we’re reading every comment and are evaluating new VR titles to add to the platform. Likewise, if you have suggestions for the app, leave a comment here or head over to support.vreal.net .

See below for the latest updates and known issues. If you have questions about how Vreal mods Tilt Brush, visit our FAQ on this page.

Updates:

  • Tilt Brush is now supported! Everyone can watch Tilt Brush recordings.
  • All approved content creators can record Tilt Brush recordings if you have Tilt Brush installed through Steam.
  • If you want to try using 2D cameras inside a Tilt Brush recording, pull up the menu and select “Selfie cam”. Press the button to flip the camera around and take a selfie. Photos are saved in your pictures library on your desktop.
  • Fixed a bug where you couldn’t hear someone in your party the larger your party got. Now you can solidly hear five people in a party together. HOORAY!

Known Issues:

  • While in Early Access, Vreal is not yet optimized for disk usage or bandwidth consumption. If you are bandwidth or disk space challenged, you may wish to wait for our 1.0 release.
  • Performance sometimes drops while watching a Tilt Brush recording on machines that run near the minimum spec recommended for VR.
  • Some brushes don't display their glow and particle effects properly when displayed through a camera.
  • Our most up-to-date list of known issues can be found on our user wiki.

As always, we recommend joining our Discord to party up with friends.
