Hello everyone! After months and months of being in development, we learned how to write some development updates. So, here comes the first, and it’s going to be a long one:
We would like to express our feelings of absolute joy, as well as anxiety. A game that’s been in the making for some time made its way to Steam, so we are happy. As we created and deliberated on the features and the scale of our world, the game grew bigger and wilder, taking us some time to finish. We wanted to make something that was reminiscent of our childhoods in terms of style, graphics and gameplay, but also, something that has a new twist on it.
Features breakdown
We figured out that Walk the Fort would be a good representation of our joined efforts, so we mixed some giant walking forts, shooting, destruction and loads of enemies. As you can already see the list of features on our Steam page, you can check a more detailed run down here:
- Many enemies to destroy. This is something that is absolutely expected when developing a shoot ‘em up. What we’re working on and currently testing is the behavior of enemies and how they can debuff the Fort and what is the player/enemy dynamic.
- Destructible environments. As a giant, walking, fighting fort, you will also be able to use your close combat abilities. This means punching buildings until you bring them down on your enemies, or picking up a pillar from rubble to use as a mace, or kicking giant rocks that roll over the incoming infantry, or perhaps, picking up a bus to throw at incoming jetpack soldiers, etc…
- Boost your Fort's abilities by building and upgrading towers; in our world you get to build different towers on different places on the Fort. As you build your towers, you can see which tower slot on the Fort boosts which attribute (damage, speed, energy, health) so you can create the best playstyle for you.
- Destroying bosses - well… Of course, you get to tackle bosses. We are making the bosses the really be a believable challenge against a giant, hulking titan. As we have a lot of them, with different working mechanics, we will be updating you about this as we go along.
- Melee fighting - When it comes to controlling a giant, you should take into consideration the weight and the size of it. You can use your limbs to plow through the enemy hordes, with incredible power. More will be revealed soon…
- See your Fort grow - You will upgrade your fort with new abilities and you will unlock powers as you go along. You will also increase in size to fit more towers, to squish enemies, to face harder challenges. You will also be able to customize the Fort.
In conclusion...
This long update is almost over! The game is getting closer to completion and these updates will be coming in more frequently. We hope to receive feedback from you guys, as well as questions, so we can be more detailed with things to come. What’s next? Well, we are working on a demo and we hope to get it to you guys soon. For now, it’s been our pleasure.
