Vautour IIN returns for the anniversary of its maiden flight!

After WWII ended, France sought to rebuild its air force. In need of an aircraft that could serve in many roles: a multi-purpose bomber, fighter and interceptor, SNCASO took one of their prototypes to fit these requirements. This is where the Vautour was born, taking to the skies on October 16th, 1952!

The Vautour IIN is available for Golden Eagles!

When: From October 16th (12:00 GMT) until October 18th (07:00 GMT).
Where: France > Aviation > Premium vehicles.

About the aircraft

  • The Vautour IIN is a bomber that is capable of carrying a wide range of ordnance! These range from bombs and unguided rockets to use against ground vehicles, including deadly AS-30 and 20 Nord air-to-ground missiles. Coupled with 4 x 30 mm DEFA cannons as well as AA-20 Nord air-to-air missiles to use against aircraft, the Vautour IIN certainly packs an impressive punch in all roles!

Vickers Mk.11: The Wheeled Behemoth

The Vickers Mk.11 is a prototype wheeled combat vehicle developed by British company Vickers as part of a private venture in response to an Australian requirement in the 1990s, this vehicle will arrive in the game with the next War Thunder update!

Vickers Mk.11: A Light Tank for Britain at Rank VI!

Features:

  • Versatile 105 mm cannon.
  • Laser rangefinder.
  • Light protection.
  • Large in size.

Meet the Vickers Mk.11!

The next dev blog season has begun! Coming to War Thunder in the next major update, the Vickers Mk.11 will help to bolster Britain’s ground research tree at rank VI! Highly agile and packing an impressive punch, the Mk.11 will be sure to provide you with an impressive choice for flanking and scouting. Let’s dive into the details of what this vehicle has to offer!

Right off the bat, you may have already noticed something oddly familiar about the Mk.11. Its size? Yes, it’s an absolute unit, but what we mean is its turret! This vehicle inherits its entire turret from the VFM5 light tank which you may already be familiar with, as it’s already in the game. This means that it sports a very-capable 105 mm LRF cannon, featuring excellent ballistic properties and a great rate of fire!

Interesting: The Vickers Mk.11 is big. And we really mean big. To put it into perspective, its height is almost the size of two 6ft people standing on top of each other! So large that it could carry 4 crew and 7 additional crew members. In the game, it will have 4 regular crew members.

Unlike the VFM5, the Mk.11 features a wheeled 6x6 chassis, offering you good mobility. This vehicle can reach speeds of up to 105 km/h on paved surfaces, all while retaining good off-road characteristics apart from in the most difficult terrain types such as deep snow or mud.

The fact that the Mk.11 is based on a modified APC chassis means that it won’t really offer you much protection in your matches. Featuring only lightweight armor, this vehicle will be able to withstand light machine guns and autocannons at a distance. However, dedicated anti-tank weapons will most certainly make short work of its thinly armored hull. Therefore, a smarter tactic would be to make use of its excellent mobility to stay out of sight from any enemies that you may encounter, all while picking off enemies from flank positions!

In your matches: Pro-tips when using the Vickers Mk.11 by Tom (Oxy), WT Community Manager (TL): “As the vehicle is so massive and very lightly armored, it’s important to keep its size in mind while considering your positioning, common defensive spots won’t work too well for it as it’s just so tall. The best strategy will be to focus on its speed, aiming to push aggressively to a good position early on. Fighting like an MBT head-on won’t be too reliable for it — if you can plan your initial route well and get to the side of your enemies, it doesn’t matter how little armor you have (at least for a while!).”

This wheeled behemoth, the Vickers Mk.11, will soon be available at rank VI in the British ground forces research tree when the next major update is released! Make sure that you’re keeping an eye on our website for other exciting dev blogs that we’ll be revealing. Until then, enjoy your matches!

US Navy Birthday: A Decal and the USS Cowell to celebrate!

On October 13th 1775, the Continental Fleet was created by the 13 colonies that separated from Great Britain. When it was first created, this fleet consisted of only a few ships that went on to battle with British ships. Today, the US Navy is the world’s largest navy in terms of ships and naval aircraft.

The USS Cowell is available for Golden Eagles!

When: From October 13th (11:00 GMT) until October 16th (07:00 GMT).
Where: USA > Bluewater fleet > Premium vehicles.

About the ship

  • The USS Cowell is a tier III Destroyer that is armed with 10 x 40 mm Bofors cannons as well as 7 x 20 mm autocannons which are certainly deadly to enemy boats as well as aircraft. The meaty side of this ship though is its 5 x 127mm/38 Mk.12 main caliber guns, capable of striking a devastating blow to enemy boats and destroyers!

It’s Fixed! №82

We’re rounding up some of the bugs and issues that we’ve fixed since last week, including some of the bugs that we’ve fixed in today’s update. As always, thank you very much for all of your bug reports!

If you’ve found a bug that you’d like to report, you can do so on our community bug reporting platform. Let’s dive into the details of this article!

Better camera tracking for missiles and bombs

With today’s update, when tracking missiles and bombs through the tracking camera, the camera better directs at the target, making it easier to see where your fired ordnance is going. Thanks to this change, you’ll be able to more easily see the flight trajectory of the missile or bomb that you launched!

Improvements to traction for wheeled vehicles

Today, we’ve also improved the traction of wheeled vehicles when driving over terrain that doesn’t have mud or grass. It’ll now feel better to drive over these types of terrain — wheeled vehicles will pick up speed faster, and will be easier to control!

Tracking camouflage progress made easier

It’s now more convenient for you to track the progress of camouflages! Last week, in a vehicle’s modification window next to the Talisman box, there’s a camouflage box that shows progress towards the current camouflage. From here, you can click on this box which will then bring you to the regular camouflage customization area, so you can check out all other camouflages for a vehicle as normal!

Fixed aircraft visibility in front of clouds

Last week, we fixed a graphic issue related to clouds and aircraft. What happened was, aircraft flickered when they were in front of the backdrop of clouds at medium and longer distances. This issue made aircraft difficult to spot and overall was quite annoying. We discovered what was causing this, so this issue won’t be happening anymore.

There’s a lot more!

You’ll be able to see the full list of bug fixes and improvements that we’ve made recently below.

Here’s a quick summary of some other fixes in the past 2 weeks: Vehicle stat card photos have been improved and several maps and missions have been given different aircraft sizes depending on the Battle Rating of the match. Check out the rest!

Battle of the Caucasus: A Decal and Decoration for the 80th Anniversary!

From the summer of 1942, determined Axis forces launched an offensive into the Caucasus region in a bid to capture key locations. In 2 months, they managed to advance to Mozdok, but then hit a barrier — they were stopped from advancing further by the Soviets. From the beginning of 1943, Soviet troops squeezed out Axis forces from many occupied locations. Then, by October 9th 1943, all Axis troops were evacuated from the region, therefore full control of these locations were returned to the Soviets.

The KV-1E and IL-2M “Avenger” are available for Golden Eagles!

When: From October 9th (14:00 GMT) until October 12th (14:00 GMT).
Where: USSR research tree > Army / Aviation > Premium vehicles.

About the tank

  • The KV-1E is an excellent tank for its Battle Rating! Possessing a strong gun, the KV-1E has good armor and decent mobility, and also features additional armor plates on the side of the hull and turret, good for extra protection!

About the aircraft

  • The IL-2M “Avenger” is a special aircraft: it was built using the funds from Grigor Tevosyan who was the chairman of a collective farm named after Stalin in the village of Avdalar in the Armenian USSR. Grigor lost two brothers in the war, which is why this IL-2M is called “Avenger”. This ground attack aircraft can sustain fire and has a wide range of ordnance options which include bombs and rockets. The “Avenger” is also able to fly faster than the regular IL-2M. For forward armament, this aircraft features 2 x 23 mm cannons, and for defensive armament, 2 x machine guns!
