WayDown

Soul King is here!

The time has finally come. After two years of work, we've finally made it across the first finish line. We're incredibly proud of the game we've made, and we hope players will enjoy playing Soul King as much as we enjoyed making it.

Drop into the shoes of Lynn, a new arrival in The Barclay Reserve an astral hub connecting dreamers together, which has been taken over by the Soul King. He holds each dreamer in his grip, submerging them deep into layers of dream or nightmare in order to harvet their power for himself. Lynn must break each dreamer free of their chains by delving into their personal dreamscape, fighting the ferocious minions of the Soul King to reach the mind at the core of the dream, all while outrunning the mysterious Whispering Wall that pursues her.

Each dreamer you free loosens the Soul King's iron grip, so maybe with enough effort you'll be able to shake the Reserve free of his grasp and defeat him once and for all.

WayDown is now Free!

It's been all quiet in the halls of Bunker 666 for quite a while now. While it was a minor success for us when released, WayDown has lived a long life as a commercial game so we feel it's anout time to let it out of its cage and let it roam free on the hills of the internet.

This is part of our policy of a rolling de-monetization of older games. We've released several games since WayDown (ThreeStep, BISC, PROVIDER, and soon Soul King) so we feel like WayDown is going to be more valuable to the world as a freeware game than it will to us as a revenue source. We've previously done the same thing with SiC and Monotaur, which have been fully free for quite a while now, and we hope to continue to do the same as we continue to release new games.

We would like to take a second to thank the team for their excellent work.

  • Jonathan Medina (Dinobyte Softworks Twitter) did solid work on most of the visual assets in the game, including walls, enemies, pickups, and on and on and on, as well as consulting on much of the game design
  • Michael White (Twitter Link) did some great work on the soundtrack, including the hell tracks and the final Crossfit Satan soundtrack.
  • Will Savino (Twitter Link) did some excellent work on the soundtrack as well, including the hub theme, and tracks for a few biomes.

Please give them some love and check out the now free WayDown!

Thanks,

Wyatt White

Update GOLD21

Another small emergency update. Specifically to fix the ending that has a 2/3 chance of crashing the game. Please make sure your game is up to date before playing it again!

Thanks,
