Wayward Souls: Curse of Shadow

11/1 Update - Save System

Save statues are in! You can find statues that will let you save and quit back to the character select. From there, you can load whatever save you want to resume a game in progress.

Let us know what you think of this feature, and if we should add more statues to some of the modes.

Next build will likely be another character item update, as we look at what to do next on our task list.

List of Changes

- Save statues added, saving will save and quit to the character select menu
- Save loading added. Saves will be deleted when loaded

- Save statues added to around the midpoint of Mines/Castle/Catacombs
- Save statues added to level 6 and 14 in Labyrinth
- Save statues added to levels 7 and 14 in Paladin
- Endless gets a save statue every floor
- Multiple endless downstairs variants added for save statues

- Increased draw distance, to prevent things from popping onscreen out of nowhere at higher resolutions

- Golem Knights and Possessed Cultists have new revive effects
- Fixes to some rooms
- Fix for overpowered enemy fire sprites that accidentally showed up in the monster list for Labyrinth/Endless

10/12 Update

Ran into some issues with save statues, working on those still. In the meantime, here's the new items for Spellsword and Adventurer, 6 in total.

List of Changes

- Warrior Stone Stun axe now uses 2 axes (instead of 3) for the first level, but has shortened range
- More checks to make sprite pets not break scripted scenes
- More random story events added to Paladin
- New pets and rooms added

Adventurer Items

- New Weapon: A dagger that backstabs and can be thrown like the Cultist dagger. Takes slightly less energy than the Cultist dagger, and the + version takes even less energy.
- New Lantern Item: Bombs. Toss one and run. Does 15 damage, with + version doing 20 damage. Stuns and devastates packed groups, but can be awkward to use due to the fuse.
- New Amulet: Calls multiple bolts of lightning from the sky that strike in intervals. Takes 2 amulet charges to use. Calls down 2 lightning bolts, + version calls down 3.

Spellsword Items

- New Weapon: Power attack changes to a slicing wave of water. Will damage and stun one target maximum over a long range. Also nullifies magic and projectiles. + version takes less energy.
- New Bracers: On hit, casts haste on the player. 3 seconds, + version is 4 seconds.
- New Scrollcase: Takes more energy to dash, similar to the Blink. Dashing leaves a brief field behind. If an enemy spell hits this field, it will nullify the spell and cast haste on the player for 1.5 seconds. + version lasts for 2.5 seconds.

Let me know what you think of the new items!

10/1 Update

This build has a major bugfix, and introduces 3 new forge items for Warrior!

Still working on Save Statues, that should be coming in the next build unless we run into a giant problem.

List of Changes

- Possible fix for attack pets (such as the sprites) locking up the game by attacking during a cutscene. They should now no longer attack if a script is running.

- New Warrior Shield: Acts like a parry more than a shield. If you're hit within .75 seconds of using it, you will block damage and emit a blast that does 10 damage to all enemies nearby while nullifying spells. You can attack while using this, it doesn't get put away like a normal shield would. Plus version does 15 damage.

- New Warrior Weapon: A spear that does a point blank blast of energy which dissipates projectiles and knocks enemies back for low (5) damage. This blast covers a wide area and lingers. Plus version takes less energy to use, though still slightly more than the Stained Glass Sword.

- New Warrior Axe: Takes 3 ammo to throw and has a short range, but will stun enemies. Plus version takes 2 ammo.

Steam Emoticons - Final Results!

The above are the Steam emoticons we decided on and are submitting. Thanks for all the feedback!

We had a lot of close votes at the end, so we ended up with the formerly rejected Little Mushroom Man.

9/22 Update

Getting back to faster updates after this one. I took a short vacation, followed immediately by me getting sick from the vacation. The team has also been working on the New Save system/Save Statues, at the same time.

We're about to submit the Trading Cards, Emoticons, and Badges. I'll post a final preview of the Steam emoticons tomorrow.

Steam Emoticons - Vote on Final Draft!

We have to pick 10 Steam Emoticons to include with Wayward Souls. We tallied up the votes from the last time, and then adding 5 new ones (row D) due to fan requests.

This will be the final draft, so vote on which ones you like the best and then 10 of them will become included with the game.

Notes

Rows A and B were the most highly voted last time from all sources (here, Twitter, Discord, Facebook...). They are in order of popularity, with Gnomey getting the most votes by far. So he's in, guaranteed. Row A is pretty much guaranteed at this point, with some wiggle room to replace one or two of the row B emoticons (I'm thinking about maybe removing B1 if something else is really popular this voting round)

C got low votes, but not so much they were rejected outright.

D Are all new emoticons, mostly from requests. Gravestone, treasure chest, coin, green slime, hourglass.

Brown cat and south dog got decent votes, but I rejected them due to being too similar to A2 and A4. Cultist got more votes than the other characters, but it was still too low overall. It was tricky anyway, as including one of the playable characters made it make sense to include all 7, which would take up most of the slots.

Steam Emoticons - Tell us your ideas!

We're about ready to put Trading Cards, Badges, and related things into Wayward Souls. Right now, we're trying to figure out what Steam Emoticons to pick for the game. We can choose a total of 10. Here are some of our ideas so far:

Let us know what your favorites are from these. Also, if you have any requests you'd like us to add to this chart, let us know! I will likely post a followup to this in a few days, while removing emoticons that weren't popular and adding in new requests.

We should also have a new update over this weekend.

8/31 Update - Cheevo Fixes, Paladin First Boss Changes

New update! This continues our work on Paladin, with some Achievement fixes.

Let me know what you think of the revamped first boss fight for Paladin! If this seems good, I will likely use this as a basis for balancing the second and third fights.

List of Changes

- New AI for the First Paladin Boss Encounter
- Some new boss moves added for this fight
- Many small tweaks to their old old moves
- One boss now has less health than previously

- Some retroactive achievement checks added when you go to character select
- Hat cheevo should be rewarded retroactively now
- Gift cheevo should be rewarded retroactively now
- Fix for Paragon Achievement
- Paragon cheevo description expanded

8/28 Update - Now with Cheevos

New update! Now with achievements.

For the next update, the plan is starting the changes to the various Paladin bosses. Maybe also getting in trading cards and Steam emoticons, along with any other changes that go in.

List of Changes

- Achievements for all classes except Paladin. We plan to add more.

- New animations and sounds for the first three bosses

- Fixed some boss rooms not opening back up properly after boss defeat
- Other tweaks to the boss rooms

8/14 Update - Display Settings

New update! This one fixes the Stretch Screen option, which was temporarily grayed out during launch.

The next big feature we're looking at is getting achievements in. I also want to start making changes to Paladin, now that we have more feedback on him.

List of Changes

- Vsync and Stretch Screen in Display Options should now work. Stretch Screen will still have slight black bars at different sizes, to preserve the pixel art.
- Stretch Screen works for both windows and fullscreen.

- Warpbacks added to the boss rooms after you defeat them. You can now backtrack after taking down a boss.

- Some sound adjustments
- Typos and minor fixes
