Patch 1.04 Sneak Peek Part 1: New Features

Hey folks - Patch 1.04 lands on Sept 13th on all platforms. Here is your first Sneak Peek!

Alternative Aiming System (Experimental)
With Patch 1.04 we are trialing a new alternative aiming system, different from the classic twin-stick shooter model, where the camera controls are preserved while aiming. This new system can be turned ON/OFF at any point (including in an existing playthrough) in the gameplay options.

Nimpossible Mode
A new game mode will unlock with Patch 1.04, bringing permadeath to the West and a new high-stakes way to play Weird West.

When playing in Nimpossible Mode, manual saving is not possible. The game will auto-save your progress, and you can play and reload from that single dedicated auto-save slot only. Nimp Heads you find during your Journeys will allow you to resurrect, but once you are out of Nimp Heads, death is permanent, your playthrough is over, and the auto-save file is deleted. Are you ready for the hardest challenge yet?

Mysterious Deaths Side Content
To go along with the new Nimpossible mode, some side content (available only in Nimpossible) has been added to the game to support the lore around the resurrection process and the deal struck with the Wanderers. This includes two new travel encounters and a side quest that will unlock through your Nimpossible playthrough. The video below shows the starting point of the narrative thread.

Misc Additions

  • We added a tracker of your human kill count in the Reputation TAB, so those of you who are attempting a non-lethal playthrough can easily keep tabs on how this is going at any point during gameplay. (We also fixed the fact that killing Ravenous wrongly counted toward that number.)
  • Related to non-lethal playthroughs, we have also tuned blunt weapons so that attacking too quickly won't result in you inadvertently killing your target.
  • Upon players' request and for increased accessibility, we have also added an additional higher level of slo-mo to the "SloMo While Aiming" option that was added with the previous patch

That's it for today! We hope you will enjoy these additions to the game. Please note we will also share the full list of bug fixes coming with Patch 1.04 in a few days right here!

Patch 1.04 coming this September!

However, we just wanted to let you know our free update 1.04, entitled "Nimpossible", is planned for release in the second week of September on all platforms. So it's only a few weeks away now!

We will communicate more in-depth details about the content of this patch in the week leading up to its release, but we can already tell you this free update will feature a new game mode named "Nimpossible", an alternative and experimental new aiming system (which can be turned on or off at any point) and plenty of fixes for bugs reported by the community.

We wish you all a great month of august and will see you all in a few weeks for more 1.04 info!
Until then... giddy up!

Weird West Update 1.03 is Live

Put your boots on and grab your trustworthy pickaxe, for Weird West latest free update “The Miners and the Restless” (Patch 1.03) is now live on all platforms and storefronts! #PraiseYeb!

Aside from a healthy dose of bug fixing, this new update adds some brand new Mine locations to the game to keep exploration and bounty hunting fresh. To help with exploring those mine sites, some additional aiming system options are now available and all weapons have also received a facelift with additional stats and loot variations. The game progression system has been also fully revised - with acquired Weapon Abilities now carrying between Journey Heroes - and the game economy received a full balancing pass to go with all this, under the benevolent eyes of the Wanderers, from their brand new outpost location, where Nimp Relics can now be purchased! Not mentioning Companions AI received a lot of love.. oh.. and if you want to keep track of all this mayhem, we are also throwing in a new “Reputation” tab in your journal to keep tabs on your Friends for Life and Vendettas! Finally, console players should be delighted to know the game now runs at 60Fps on Xbox Series S too! Check-out the patch trailer video and more in-depth details below.

Please note that there is an issue introduced with previous patch 1.02 that we are still looking at fixing (Companions sometimes unequipping their equipped weapon on reload of a save file) and will release a hotfix (1.03b) for that later this week, along with any unforeseen new issue that may arise from the patch release today if any (hopefully none!). Reg. the Grackle Crash some of you are experiencing: If we get a full fix for it this week or next (1.03 only has a partial fix which might not be sufficient for all players on walkthrough started prior to 1.03), we will release a 1.03c patch afterward too so you don't have to wait until 1.04 to get a fix for it if one is already available. Thanks!

Patch 1.03 Sneak Peek Part 2: New Features

Last week we talked about some of the new content introduced with our incoming Patch 1.03 (planned for release on all platforms and storefronts on the week of June 20th). While we will also communicate the full bugs fix list in a few days, for today we wanted to share with you some of the exciting new features that will find their way into the game with this free update!

Loot: Weapon Perks
In an effort to diversify weapon loot a little bit, Patch 1.03 will introduce the concept of weapon perks. Now each weapon you will find in the world has a low chance of having a random perk attached to it, such as, but not limited to, increasing critical damage against non-human, a chance to poison enemies or ignoring part of your target armor etc. If you upgrade a weapon with the forge, it will preserve the perk that was attached to it and transfer it to the upgraded weapon too! This is the first part of our continued loot pass, which will continue with future patches by adding even more unique random gameplay effects to weapons!

Reputation TAB
Patch 1.03 will see the introduction of the Reputation TAB, allowing you to track down what Vendettas are still active against you, what Friends for Life you have acquired but also what Vendettas or Friends for Life are being dragged with any Companions you have recruited into your Posse, adding a clearer understanding of those systems. From this tab you can also check out in what locations you are currently wanted in. We hope you will enjoy this!

New Aiming System Options
In an effort to make the aiming system easier to use for players of all skill levels, we are adding two gameplay options that can be tuned or turned on/off at any point, depending on your preferences. "Aiming Accuracy" when set to Permissive will make the aiming system more forgiving so that you will still hit your target even if you don't very accurately aim at it. A second option"Slo-Mo while aiming" was also added to allow the game to slow down a tiny bit while entering aim mode to make things a bit less overwhelming if you prefer action a bit less fast-paced.

Revamped Companions' AI
A lot of love was given for this patch to Companions' AI to avoid most of the issues related to companions not engaging in combat, getting stuck and not following you or disappearing altogether. While Companions and AI in general will remain one of our core focus for the coming weeks, to keep on improving the experience, we are confident this update will make Companions a more reliable part of combat!

New Progression System
Patch 1.03 also introduces a revamped progression system, where Weapon Abilities you acquired now transfer between Journeys (unlike Class Abilities) so the progression between the 5 Journeys feel more connected in term of progression. Note that if you load an existing save file after patching, you will be prompted to opt in or opt out of this new system, but all new games started after this patch will use the new progression system. Similarly, when recruiting your previous Journey Heroes, ammo, money but also horse ownership are now transferred to the new Hero so you don't feel like your hard-earned dollars and belongings are just vanishing. To go along with those changes, we have also done a full balancing pass on the game economy (specifically how much junk items you find in containers and their value) but we have also revised the enemies level progression in secondary locations so that the game difficulty in those locations doesnt plateau as much after the second Journey. This also means Bounty Targets from the Bounty Board will now correctly progress throughout the game. offering 3, 4 and 5 stars Bounties as you progress. You will now also receive a relay from the Marshall when Bounties for key Story Characters are added to the Bounty Board so those don't fully unoticed!

60 Fps on Xbox Series S
For those of you playing on Xbox Series S, we did a pass of optimizations (which will also benefit to lower end PCs and Xbox One and PS4). The result of that optimization pass is that the game now runs at a steady 60fps on Xbox Series S! We hope you will enjoy the smoother experience!

We will be back in a few days to communicate the full list of bug fixes you can expect to see with Patch 1.03. In the meantime, if you are interested in more Weird West news or want to get involved with the Weird West community, feel free to join the Weird West Community Discord!

Patch 1.03 Sneak Peek Part 1: New Content

"The Miners and the Restless," our Patch 1.03 for Weird West, is now on the horizon (scheduled to go live on the week of June 20th on all platforms), so we thought we'd share some insights into what we've been cooking up!

With the new Patch 1.03, we have relentlessly continued to focus on fixing bugs and want to reassert that this is still one of our top priorities. In this regard, later next week we'll share the change log with the full list of issues you can expect to see fixed with this new patch. In the meantime, we wanted to let you know about key areas we've been focusing on beyond bug fixing and share a collection of WIP screenshots of some of the new free content coming along with this new patch!

Patch 1.03 will introduce new weapon loot, new aiming system options, revamped Companion AIs, a Character Reputation Tracker, a full game economy balancing pass, and an overhaul of the player-progression systems throughout the game. We will cover those in detail in our "Sneak Peek Part 2: New Features" announcement next week.

For today, though, we want to show you some screenshots of the two new secondary mine locations we're adding to the mix, part of our continued effort to make the game content more diverse and keep bounty missions fresh. Below you can also see WIP screenshots of the brand-new Wanderers Outpost, a fixed location where the Wanderers Caravan, which you're already familiar with, will stop for trading. This will now act as a fixed shop to purchase Nimp Relics as a part of the economy and progression rework, which we'll detail more in the coming days.

We hope you enjoy these work-in-progress screenshots of those new environments --we'll be back next week for tons more details on this new patch! Time to get your pickaxe on!
