Where Birds Go to Sleep

Play The Demo!

Starting today, our demo will be public again as part of Dreamhack Beyond's Indie Showcase (14 Oct - 23 Oct, leading into another festival 24-25 October called Dev.Play centered around Eastern European games!

There are two other festivals we'll be part of in Novemeber as well, so we're vert excited!

Regarding the demo, it is the same demo as before.
If you haven't played it already, we hope you'll give it a go and let us know what you think.
If you have, thank you, and we hope you'll tell your friends to play it! 🎉

You may not think you make a difference, but you absolutely do! Any word of mouth you can spread is a massive help (and moral boost) to us. THANK YOU!

A Thank You, and Demo Available until 14th August

Tiny Teams has wrapped a few days ago and we we would like to thank everyone who played the demo. The feedback we have received via the feedback form, Steam Discussion forums or on our Discord has been incredibly useful, and we have tried to be responsive and some reactionary changes made it into demo updates.

For the time being, we will first hide the demo for an unspecified amount of time on the 14th of August. This means that even if you have the demo in your library or installed, you will be able to run it, but new players will not be able to download it. At a later point, we will disable it fully, so you won't be able to run it. We will announce this in advance. Don't worry, the demo will be back (with some updates) later!

Thank you once again, and we are excited for the next time the demo will be public again, and for your feedback!

Big Demo Update and Tiny Teams

We are very excited to say that we're participating in TinyTeams 2022, and that our demo will be available again from the 1st of August until an unspecified date (at least until the 8th).

If you have the demo in your Steam library already, you'll already see an update for the demo - the build will have "0.71" (or higher) on the top left corner. If you don't, you will be able to access the demo again on the 1st of August!

We would love to hear your thoughts on the changes and the new content, and if you run into any issues!

Changes:
- New endscreen that shows your path taken in the demo
- A new dialogue path for the argument with Dunlin
- Shireen's Locket dream made more apparent
- WASD/Gamepad support!!
- A lot of voice lines have been cut up to be shorter so dialogue is quicker (more like movie subtitles)
- Resolutions now wont list every resolution under the sun, just the relevant ones
- Mindmap notifcation reworked, now hopefully more obvious
- Ability to dream on before waking up

Things to note:
- Due to changes made to the structure of saves, your saves from previous versions of the demo will not be compatible (the game will act like you have no saves, this is intended).
- Your settings will also reset on first startup due to changes to settings, namely that you cannot rebind keys in the demo, and you cannot use both dyslexia font and font size at the same time.

Those of you on Linux, you might have to opt into a beta branch by inputting the following password: wherepenguinsgotosleep

Demo Fixes

A new update has been pushed, will show V0.48 in the top left corner of the main menu.

- minor audio fixes
- minor art fixes
- end screen no input fix
- a fix to pausing/opening mindmap becoming unavailable at seemingly random times
- added credits

The demo's availability is also extended to 23rd of July! We hope you'll enjoy it if you haven't already, and please consider sending us feedback via the ingame form or the Steam forums.

Demo Updates + Linux version

A couple of small updates were pushed these past day. The update will show V0.42 (or higher) in the top left corner of the main menu.

- Lots of small art fixes
- Feedback form no longer shows the two unintended "Option Text" buttons that lead to a softlock
- The mindmap notification that pops up in the top right corner has been made yellow and a bit bigger for easier visibility
- Fixed a few buttons staying onscreen when they should have disappeared
- Fixed a few buttons displaying as unavailable when they should be interactable
- An issue was fixed where after the first line, the end screen was not interactive
- End screen should now properly display the buttons to leave the game after the demo ends

Linux players, an experimental Linux build has been made available!
You should be able to download the demo now on the store page and opt into the Linux branch using "wherepenguinsgotosleep" as a password!

Big Demo Fix Update

The big fix update for the demo is now up! The update will show V0.32 (or higher) in the top left corner of the main menu.

This update will fix the following issues in the demo:
♢ Most importantly, fixed saving and loading saves
♢ Un-fried the feedback form*
♢ "Snake's Tongue" achievement fixed
♢ End screen not fading out from black softlock fixed
♢ An alternate path in Dunlin convincing dialogue post first sleep is now available
♢ Adjusted how pausing works (you should be able to pause now normally unless a voiced line is playing)
♢ Mindmap can be exited using the pause button
♢ Mindmap can be exited anytime (even when an entry is displayed onscreen)
♢ Thought prompts updated to be more legible
♢ Fixed softlocks in the beach (shoes) and bonfire introspection sections
♢ Fixed white screen on endscreen and some other similar screens
♢ Thought prompts now clickable normally without having to use keyboard buttons
♢ Fixed some typos

*Please send us feedback! We want to hear about your experience!

Apologies for any issues caused earlier and we hope the update fixed any problems you've encountered before!

Also apologies to those not on a QWERTY keyboard about the non-rebindable up/down keys, we will allow these to be rebindable the next time the demo will be public!

Demo Hotfixes

We have pushed a big update to the demo, that fixes the issue where after certain actions, the screen would remain black, without text or with just a static image, and some other issues. Upon downloading the update (or a new build), you will see V0.18 (or higher) in the top left corner of your screen, which means you're on the right build!

Saving is still a little broken, which might not be something we will fix for this short demo, but is something very high priority to fix otherwise. It is recommended to play through the demo in one sitting for the time being.

Sorry for the delay and inconvenience, we hope you will enjoy the rest of the demo! Don't forget to tell us what you think in the Steam Discussions!

Public Demo Available on the Store Page until the 20th!

A little later than we wanted but here's the announcement finally: our demo for Where Birds Go to Sleep is now available for a short while on our Steam page until the 20th, featuring "SECRETS", our take on optional content and exploration. They're all very well-integrated, authored and worthwhile - some of them are hidden very well!

We would love to hear about your experiences with it, what you liked, what you didnt like, if you found anything confusing, if you encountered problems etc, you can use the ingame feedback form to do that, or post to this thread:

There is a known issue where save games sometimes unexpectedly vanish and leave you with an "empty" save that you cannot load - we are not sure what causes this yet, but if you encounter this issue please send a feedback form from the main menu as it sends your save files to us to try and debug this. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.

(if you find problems, screenshots, videos and descriptions really help!)

We hope you have a great time with it!

--------------------
Linux gamers, you are not forgotten! We're currently experiencing difficulties trying to build for Linux, but we will investigate further, and hopefully by the next time we make our demo available, it can be also available on Linux.
