Homecoming: To Build a Community Everlasting

The Communities Housing system is a marquee feature making its grand debut in Homecoming, the next major WildStar update arriving September 6. For the first time ever players will be able to join their Housing plots together to create an otherworldly neighborhood with near-limitless customization possibilities. Before you plunge head first into this rich new feature, let’s cover some of the basics that’ll put you on your path toward expert Community planning.

Social Engineering

At their core, Communities are designed as a social feature that’s structured much like the guild system. You can think of the logistics of Community membership as similar to belonging to a guild, and your Community can be entirely independent of your guild (if you’re in one). Various ranks can be set for Community members, beginning at the top with the leader, to customize permission sets and determine who has the ability to make a number of key decisions that shape the Community. And while up to a maximum of 20 characters may belong to a Community, it’s important to note that no more than five Housing plots can be actively displayed within the collective Community plot. In addition to the five Housing plots, there’s a common area to which multiple members can contribute decorations to help tie the neighborhood together. Express yourselves!

It Takes a Village

Any character that’s a home owner and can create guilds and Circles can also establish a Community. To get started with founding your Community, speak with the Protostar Community Director located in Illium and Thayd in front of each city’s Housing display. Just be sure to give some thought to naming your Community! It’ll cost 50 Platinum or 600 Service Tokens to register, so it may be worth making arrangements to split the cost among the people you’ll be inviting to be your neighbors. A character may only belong to one Community at any given time. To that end, if you’ve always dreamt of building a shared living space for your alts, and you have the funds to unlock a Community by yourself, more power to you! At its core, the Communities system is designed to be a social feature, but solo Communities are an option too.

Phenomenal Cosmic Power, Not-so-Itty-Bitty Living Space

Given that the Communities system pulls together characters’ existing Housing plots, it’s worth understanding how belonging to a Community will affect your personal living space. Whenever your home is occupying a physical space in the Community it won’t also be available to visit as a separate Housing plot. On the flipside, if you’re a member of a Community but your home isn’t currently occupying one of the five plots, you’ll retain access to your individual Housing plot. To put it simply, you get one location on which to display your personal property at any given time, whether that’s within a Community or on your own plot.

There are various options available to members for selecting or reserving plots depending on how ranks are established by the Community Leader—remember there are a total of five plots to display members’ homes. If there’s a vacant plot whenever you visit your Community, at virtually any rank you can choose to display your Housing plot in that space for the duration of your play session. The plot is then relinquished to be used by another member of the Community once you log out of the game. On the other hand, with sufficient permissions you can reserve a plot, which is a way of staking long-term claim to the land that persists whether or not you’re online. A reservation is removed when the plot owner or someone else with appropriate permissions revokes it. The goal with these placement options is to give larger Communities the opportunity to be flexible in how access to plots are shared, while also allowing smaller Communities to lock down who gets each piece of land.

Win Big in the Community Showdown

We know a lot of determined builders are enthusiastic about the introduction of Communities to the ever-expansive Player Housing system in WildStar. With this in mind we’re jumpstarting Homecoming with a brand-new Housing contest on a scale we’ve never done before! In the coming days you’ll have the ability to register a team to compete in the Community Showdown to make the coolest, most unique, and awe-inspiring Community in the galaxy! If you’re up for the challenge, we recommend you start gathering your team of up to five players and think of what to name your Community. We’ll open a signup page for you and your teammates to register, and you can get started on your shared masterpiece the moment the Homecoming game update goes live! Stay tuned in the coming days. We’ll announce when signups are open and contest rules are available.

We’re thrilled to be bringing this new feature to WildStar and can’t wait to stop by your neighborhood!

The Sim-Chase is Back! August 14–21

The Coalition of Galactic Scientists (CoGS)—a group of scientists from both factions who believe the search for the missing Eldan is too important to let a galactic conflict get in the way—are looking to further their research into Sim-Cores. These holographic simulations left behind by the Eldan not only allow adventurers to experience simulated stories, but could offer clues as to the disappearance of the Eldan. To this end, the CoGS are offering rewards for anyone who can complete Sim-Core simulations (widely known as Adventures).

By completing Adventures during Sim-Chase you’ll earn Hardlight Shards—solid pieces of data extracted from Sim-Cores—and trade them to Exchanger Krova for CoGS Sim-Cards. And CoGS Sim-Cards aren’t just for show! There are those in CoGS who need them to further their own research, and are willing to trade rare cases for them. Trader Jonjo can be found in the capital cities to trade your CoGS Sim-Cards for rare housing plot décor pieces.

Of course good ol’ OmniBits can get you CoGS Sim-Cards in bundles from the In-Game Store, as well as two unique cases only available during select times of the event, which may contain a vast array of different and incredible items.

What’s New

The Sim-Chase begins at 10am PDT on August 14 and ends at 10am PDT on August 21.

This time around the Coalition of Galactic Scientists has pooled its resources and is offering a ton of rewards from the Shrine and Exo-Lab cases for helping them further their research. In addition to finding music tracks and skyboxes, you can recruit special NPCs like Corrigan Doon, Judge Kain, and the Security Avatar, as well as earn flasks, pets, housing décor, holographic Sim-Core NPCs, and a couple of awesome mounts. Sim-tastic!

Shrine Case

Available on the In-Game Store August 14–16 & August 18–21

Each case is guaranteed to drop a random amount of gold or Service Tokens, in addition to either 2 décor pieces or 1 random item from any other category:

Exo-Lab Case

Available on the In-Game Store August 16–21

Each case is guaranteed to drop a random amount of a random currency (gold, Service Tokens, etc.) in addition to 1 random item from its item pool:

On August 18 at 10am PDT both cases will be available until the end of the event on August 21, at 10am PDT.

Mini-Case

In addition to purchasing the Shrine and Exo-Lab Cases, you also have a chance to earn a Mini-Case directly each time you complete an Adventure. Mini-Cases contain any 1 of the following items:

The Space Chase Returns! July 31–August 7

For centuries, the Ekose Shiphands Union has been running cargo from planet to planet. And if there's one thing the alien Ekose know, it's spaceships—how to use them, live on them, build them, take them apart, and put them back together again.

How do they manage these staggering feats of interstellar travel? With the help of an amazing discovery that lets their technology work longer and steadier than any other—the elusive Eko Particles! They're what Ekose pilots use to keep their ship engines running smoothly for extended periods. And once again, as part of the limited-time Space Chase event returning 10am PDT July 31 to 10am PDT August 7, Ekose ship captains Exchanger Beno and Collector Torio will be letting everyone get in on the secret and unlocking the coolest spaceship components in the galaxy—parts you can use to build your own unique spaceships on your housing plot!

Beno and Torio can be found in each capital city near the contracts board.

When the Suns Align

Since the discovery of Nexus, many Ekose traders have visited the Eldan planet to haul cargo and goods to and from the planet. In that time, more than a few Ekose ships have crashed on the surface, leaving lots of stray Eko Particles to be collected. Eko Particles are so valuable because they can only be detected when exposed to certain types of stellar radiation, meaning they can only be found on Nexus when the planet's trinary suns align perfectly. That time frame is known among Ekose traders as the "Space Chase."

Embrace the Chase

Need a quick refresher on how this all works? During the Space Chase, every time you complete an Expedition that's within your level range you'll earn Eko Particles that you can trade with or sell to other players. You can then bring them to Exchanger Beno, who will exchange them for valuable Eko Chits that you can then trade with Collector Torio for exclusive spaceship housing décor items, as well as all-new rewards this time around! Want to skip the step where you complete Expeditions? Just buy Eko Chits at the In-Game Store using Protobucks or OmniBits—Collector Torio doesn't care how you got the Chits, as long as he gets his hands on them!

Of note: Eko Particles can only be earned by playing Expeditions that are at the correct level range for your character. The level ranges for each Expedition are as follows:

  • Level 6-12: Fragment Zero
  • Level 10-19: Outpost M-13
  • Level 17-27: Infestation
  • Level 20-27: Evil from the Ether
  • Level 25-31: Rage Logic
  • Level 29-33: Space Madness
  • Level 31-41: Deep Space Exploration
  • Level 39-49: Gauntlet
  • Level 50: Any Veteran Expedition or Vault of the Archon

Space Chasers Unite

Earning Eko Particles Expeditions to trade for Eko Chits is just one way to participate in the Space Chase event. You can also use OmniBits or Protobucks to buy Space Chase Cases directly from the In-Game Store. Space Chase Cases have a chance to give the same ship components you can purchase from Collector Torio, plus they're the only place to find exclusive Space Chase rewards like one of fifteen new décor NPC characters, complete ship replicas, or one of three exclusive new housing music tracks! And remember, you can always trade anything you get from a Space Chase Case with your friends, or buy/sell them at the auction house.

Just in Case

Like the ships themselves, Space Chase Cases come in three flavors, and each one will only initially be available during a specific two-day period. At the end of the event (10am PDT August 4 to 10am PDT August 7) all three will be up in the In-Game Store for a limited time.

Tech Shuttle Décor Case

Spaceship engineers and space bound freight haulers alike admire the fantastically functional and utilitarian Tech Shuttle set.

Initially on sale from 10am PDT July 31 to 10am PDT August 2, they contain one of the following random housing items:

Gunner Ship Décor Case

This sturdy set of powerhouse parts will let you build a hard-charging brute of a ship that's armed to the teeth.

Initially on sale alongside the Tech Shuttle Décor Case—10am PDT July 31 to 10am PDT August 2—they contain one of the following random housing items:

  • One piece from the Gunner décor set
  • One character from the Space Cadet NPC décor set
  • A Marauder Raider ship replica
  • Housing Music Remodel: Smooth

Racer Ship Décor Case

Sleek, shiny, and oh-so-stylish, the Racer décor set lets you build the stealthiest-looking speed demon in space from the comfort of your own housing plot.

Initially on sale from 10am PDT August 2 to 10am PDT August 7, they contain one of the following random housing items:

More Space Chase Takes

But that’s not all! Each Space Chase Case also has a chance to drop rare NPC décor for Artemis Zin and Dorian Walker, as well as a Dog of War mount and Lonely Lost Larva pet, along with gold, Service Tokens, and various flasks. But you can also get the décor, mount, and pet (and music tracks mentioned above) directly from the Expeditions in the form of mini-cases that have a chance to drop at the end of Expeditions.

Time Bandit

Too busy folding space-time down at the ol’ collider to run Expeditions and get Eko Particles? No prob! You can use Protobucks or OmniBits to purchase Eko Chits directly from the In-Game Store, and then snag a selection of Space Chase items available from Collector Torio. So prepare to race into space and face the Space Chase!

Show Us Your Creations

The best part of the Space Chase ship parts décor? You can use these pieces however you like! Sure, each set has a theme like combat, engineering, and speed, but how they combine to form new and dynamic spaceships is entirely up to you! How many Space Cadets can you collect? Will you build a fleet of Protostar Transports? Well don't be shy, share your new designs with us on Twitter, Facebook, our official forums, or anywhere else you post awesome WildStar things. We'll be watching... from space!

Madame Fay’s Retro Fortunes Return

Madame Fay is continuing the trend of bringing back stock that has come and gone, and for the next run her inventory is going retro again. She’s packed her Fortunes full of throwbacks and is offering some truly incredible rewards, in addition to some of the standard stuff—like OmniBits and Service Tokens.

If you’re looking to claim any of her remaining space inventory, be sure to get what you can before August 2. After that she’ll only be offering her retro-inspired Fortunes.

Let’s take a look!

Mounts for Gold

As with previous Madame Fay updates, you’ll have the ability to turn in one of each of the three mount color variations for the rarest-of-the-rare gold version—normally obtainable only as a super-rare Fortune drop. Through alchemical reactions you shouldn’t ask any questions about, you can purchase a Retrosaur Gilding Catalyst for 1 gold from the Madame Fay Far-Traders found in Illium and Thayd. Using the Gilding Catalyst will then consume the three mounts and spit out a shiny golden version (again, best to not ask too many questions). All Retrosaur color variants will be obtainable from Fortunes at any time before the next full inventory refresh.

Fortune Coins are purchased directly from the In-Game Store, and can be redeemed for Madame Fay Fortunes, which can include a wide variety of items, décor, mounts, currencies, and consumables. Hit your ‘N’ key to bring up the In-Game Store.

Madame Fay’s Space Fortunes Return!

Many people from all over Nexus have been hoping for a day when they’d have another shot at Fortunes long since retired from Madame Fay’s tiny golden orbs. Well good news—the Madame has sensed the desires of the people and is in the business of keeping attuned to their sympathetic vibrations! Her inventory has been fully refreshed with a bevy of returning space-themed Fortunes, including unique mounts, pets, toys, and cosmetic changes for your character. What’s more, joining this revived selection are three all-new mounts! With each Fortune you open there’s a chance to score a yellow, blue, or ultra-rare gold Industrial BoreBot mount.

Unlike recent Fortunes updates, there’s no gilding catalyst this time around you need to trade in BoreBot variants for the gold version, nor are these mounts on any sort of limited rotation. All three colors have a chance to appear in your chosen Fortunes for the duration of this stock’s availability, but it’ll take a little extra luck to strike gold.

Take a look at some of the returning goods and see if there’s anything you fancy.

Fortune Coins are purchased directly from the In-Game Store, and can be used to purchase Madame Fay Fortunes, which can include a wide variety of items, currencies, and consumables. Hit your ‘N’ key to bring up the In-Game Store.

Dungeon Chase July 3–10!

The Big Game Hunters of Nexus have been stalking the wild beasts and challenging the nastiest depths of this mysterious, treasure-filled planet for years now, and they simply don't have enough room to store all the amazing loot they've accumulated. But they can't just give these amazing rewards away to anyone who hasn't earned them. They've established the Dungeon Chase so dungeon delvers from all over the galaxy can prove their worth and earn amazing items themed around dungeon mainstays like the Osun, the Torine Swordmaidens, and the Protostar Corporation. And remember, during this event you can set your sights cross-faction to help fill out your dungeon group.

By completing dungeons during the Dungeon Chase event you’ll earn Small Game Scraps you can exchange for Big Game Bucks with Exchanger Gigax. And like their name implies, Big Game Bucks are used to buy all sorts of limited-time housing plot décor pieces from his partner, Collector Davarn. Both Exchanger Gigax and Collector Davarn can be found in the capital cities.

Of course good ol’ Protobucks or OmniBits can be used to buy Big Game Bucks in bundles from the In-Game Store, as well as two unique Dungeon Cases only available during select times of the event. Dungeon Cases might contain housing plot décor pieces, in addition to other exclusive rewards like the Torine Stripe Pumera or Swordcat mounts, Swordkitten pets, or one of the Dungeon Crawler décor NPCs decked out in stunning Osun armor. Collector Davarn also offers crates of randomly assorted Protostar-themed Proto-Tector décor NPCs for your Big Game Bucks.

The Future of In-Game Events

Now that the Starfall anniversary is nearing its end, it’s high time to look ahead at what the future holds for these types of recurring festivities and talk about what is happening with Chases.

With any in-game event, it’s important to us that your participation feels especially rewarding and relevant to the content being highlighted. One issue with the current Chase events is that a bulk of the rewards are valued housing customization pieces gated behind activities that aren’t necessarily geared toward the dedicated builders out there. To address this we’re going to be phasing out Chases and introducing a new, more fitting event to offer the décor sets and many other housing pieces previously found as Chase rewards.

Embrace the Chase

Before we get to the new event, we’re going to spin up each of the Chases for one last hurrah. We hope you’ll enjoy and take full advantage of the Chase finales, especially if you want to collect the rewards they offer sooner rather than later:

Full details for each Chase will be posted with the launch of the event.

New Event! Residential Renovation

After the Chase events are indefinitely paused, in a future update we’ll be introducing Residential Renovation! Players will help housing designer and renovator extraordinaire, Sara Conavius, by completing a variety of activities to earn currency which can be traded for rewards.

We’re currently planning to run this weeklong event once a month, and rotate former Dungeon, Battle, and Sim Chase rewards each time—this means rewards from each former Chase will be available on a three-month rotation. We’ll share more details about how the Residential Renovation event works, as well as what we plan to do with former Space Chase rewards, at a later date.

Very Eventful

Before we signoff, let’s recap all events that’ll be in rotation following these changes.

Annual Holiday Events

1.7.2 Arrives June 7!

Introducing Prime Raids!

Expanding on the range of difficulty settings added to dungeons and Expeditions with the Power of the Primal Matrix update earlier this year, 1.7.2 introduces Prime Raids beginning with Y-83 Prime Level 1! If you enjoy raiding and want better incentives to return to previous raid tiers, this system is built for you. Likewise, if you’re looking for a method to keep a consistent raid schedule while ensuring that you continue to grow your character’s power at max-level, Prime Raids offer you this opportunity.

Y-83 Prime Level 1

Prime difficulty in raids will function quite a bit differently compared to other Prime instances. For example, Prime Level 1 is relatively uniform in the challenges and rewards presented across all dungeons; whereas Prime Raids will more closely mirror existing raid progression and offer an extension—that increases with each raid and Prime Level—beyond the challenges and rewards of their normal difficulty counterparts.

Y-83 Prime Level 1 is the first tier of extended raid progression following Redmoon Terror, and is intended to best suit coordinated groups that have completed all existing raids and are geared accordingly. Following 1.7.2, each raid dungeon will be released in separate game updates at Prime Level 1, adding another step up in difficulty and gear power. Once all raid dungeons have been made available at Prime Level 1, the system will continue the progression pattern at Prime Level 2, and so on.

Y-83 Prime Hard Mode and Lockouts

It’s important to note that Prime Raids scale enemy health and damage by a percentage above the existing version of the dungeon. Given that Y-83 has a Hard Mode modifier that can be applied in combat to buff boss health and damage, as well as enable additional encounter mechanics, groups that enter the dungeon at Prime Level 1 will still have the option to further increase the difficulty by activating Hard Mode. This effectively means Y-83 has four distinct difficulties with the inclusion of the Prime setting—normal, Prime Level 1, Hard Mode, and Prime Level 1 Hard Mode.

In addition, each Prime Raid has a unique lockout per Prime Level, which in 1.7.2 gives you the choice of clearing the existing version of Y-83 (normal or Hard Mode), as well as Prime Level 1 (normal or Hard Mode) between each instance lockout reset.

Progenitor Access Particles: Emphasizing the Access

To ease some of the burden players have experienced while hunting Progenitor Access Particles, they now have a rare chance to drop throughout Prime Dungeons, during Arcterra five-player encounters, and in World Boss and Arcterra Boss loot bags. In addition, the chance to obtain a Progenitor Access Particle has increased slightly at the end of Prime Dungeons and when turning in Tier-2 Contracts.
