When we are first introduced to Arthur Artorias in Winter Ember, it is hard to place any specific characteristics on him. And that is the point, right? It is not like assassins walk around with “Hello, I am… Your neighbourhood mercenary!” badges attached to their black cloaks. No.. When we first meet Arthur in the charmingly gloomy, Victorian-esque setting of Winter Ember, he is as ominous and faceless as the night. As we learn the ropes of the game, we become him… Swiftly moving from barrel to corner, avoiding the light and line of sight, deftly taking down the patrolling officers nearby.

For us, it is a simple, logical matter of premise. Use the cover of darkness to take down this patrolling officer so that we can continue on unimpeded and unarrested. For Arthur, though, as we learn in the Winter Ember Comics, it is a quest driven by hatred, anger and -- most relevantly -- revenge.



It is within this Graphic Novel, to be released in full on August 25th, that we see the kindling origins of Winter Ember’s Anti-Hero. Between these pages, we explore the not-so-humble beginnings of Arthur Artorias and the tragic event that changes the course of his life forever. We click our fingers as we recognise key characters from the game, as well as pivotal moments that drove Arthur to become the protagonist we play as in Winter Ember.
