About Multiplayer

Hi everyone, I’m Torin with Rightstick Studios! Today I’d just like to take a quick moment to make a post about the current state of the online multiplayer of Wonder Wickets.

First off, I’d just like to give a huge thank you for everyone who has been playing the game and has participated in the beta for the online multiplayer. If you’re one of these people who has tried the multiplayer, you may have noticed that well… not everything is entirely smooth at the moment. To be fair, this is why we labeled it as a beta though I still understand that the unforeseen number of bugs in the current release can be rather frustrating. As the programmer of the multiplayer, I share this frustration. But along with this frustration comes appreciation, as the tremendous amount of footage and bug reports has been a tremendous help! Given that original testing was with a smaller group of people, there were some situations where bugs would occur that we weren’t entirely aware of. With all of these bug reports, I’ve been doing my best to identify and work towards fixing these issues, so we can eventually make sure that the multiplayer experience is stable and fun. If you encounter any bugs (other than Nova) and would like to report them, you’re more than welcome to join our official Wonder Wickets Discord server.

Again, thank you to everyone who has participated in the beta and reported bugs. Have fun, wicketeers! :wwplatinum:

Wonder Wickets 1.0.1 Changelog

Since we've started getting a few streamers broadcasting the game, we've managed to catch a few more stray bugs and balancing issues. Honestly, since our beta testing team was so small, we're most likely going to be hotfixing for a little while post-release.

If anyone finds any bugs or issues with level design, we have an area to report them on the new Official Wonder Wickets Discord!

https://discordapp.com/invite/bCkUtgs

Anyways, here's the changes we made for 1.0.1:

Level Fixes:
- Campaign 4-6: Made second half of level a little less difficult, and unlocked the trap door to prevent orb stranding when using the top or bottom pipes.
- Campaign 5-3: Didn't have enough rocket powerup drops for the first stage that introduces them. I swapped out the pickup to be an unlimited source so that new players can have enough to play around with the rockets and how they work.
- Challengoid #4 had an awkward black goal area that was too easy to strand your orb and force level reset. I added slopes to prevent this.

Bug Fixes:
- Completing a challengoid failed to pull the challengoid's name, resulting in the game crashing.
- Selecting "Return to Editor" from the pause menu when testing a VS map instead asked for "both players to agree to restarting level".
- Timer continues running after sinking the orb during Time Attack levels

Miscellaneous:
- Added a link to the Wonder Wickets Discord to the title screen.

Online Versus!!

Now that it’s October and we had the time to sit down and figure out what’s going on, we can now confirm that Online Versus will be available upon release, featuring Wonder Classic and Stardust Machine modes!

Cosmic Conquest and Battle Splatter will come to online versus in a later update, but all modes will be playable in Local Versus. For the time being, we’re getting our release version tidied up and ready for launch!

WOO!

Wonder Wickets Coming October 17th!

That's right! We're finally releasing (for real this time)!!

We’re STILL working on getting Online Versus rolling but after delaying so long, it’s time we just got Wonder Wickets out there anyway. Plenty of people have told us we should push the game out with single/local content and update it later with Online, but we really wanted to push a finished product. However, with half a year gone by, Christmas Season rolling in, and everyone getting anxious, we’ve decided to launch Wonder Wickets on October 17th with or without Online Versus.

The rest of the game is finished and ready to roll, and we’re at least trying to stabilize 2 of 4 of the Online Versus modes (Classic and Stardust) so you can at least play some form of online play. Once October 1st rolls around, we’ll know what we’re doing and let you all know how much Online Versus will be included in the release build.

After all, once the game is out, we won’t have to worry about what time we update with full Online Versus and if we’re competing with other game releases - we’ll just push it when it’s ready!

~~ As for other things! ~~

Wonder Wickets will release for $20.00 but it'll be on sale for $15.00 during the first week!

Not only will Wonder Wickets be available on October 17th, the Digital OST and Digital Art Book will finally be available to purchase on the same day!

We'll try to put out another demo before release!

Wonder Wickets “Soft Delay”

We’re sorry to do this one more time, but, We’re not going to make April 13.

Nommiin has been working as hard as he can, but Online Versus (and the preparations, polish and testing that follow that) still needs more time. This all comes down our lack of experience in finishing games, and knowing how long it takes do to things.

But to prevent further, constant delays, we’re going to do something different. We’re not setting another release date until the game is 100% finished. It could only take us another week, it could take a few more months, we just don’t know, and feel it’ll be safer to set our release date to “SOON” for the time being.

Once we’re in a releasable, stable, state: we’ll ship the game to press and backers, and THEN publicly announce when it’ll be available for purchase.

Thanks for your patience!

Wonder Wickets Delay

I’m sorry to announce this so close to our release date, just as everyone is getting excited for it, but we’re going to have to push Wonder Wickets’ release date back a little.

Full disclosure: we still have to finish Online Versus. Everything else is basically 100% done, but we poorly estimated how long things would take to finish. Even I expected to get my end done a few weeks earlier.

We’ll be pushing the release date to April 13 (two more weeks) to give us more time to finish Online Versus and make sure it all runs smoothly.
