Bye Bye, Beta - Ahoy, Launch!
After a long and adventurous run, Worbital beta has now crossed the finish line. What’s next?
First of all, we want to thank all of our wonderful beta testers for helping us build Worbital into the beautiful game it is now. Thank you for playing, for suggesting, for encouraging and criticising—you’ve been the driving force behind our work every day.
Now that the beta is finished, the only thing ahead is full release. Worbital 1.0 will launch on Steam on January 31st. The price for the full version of the game will be 19.99€/19.99$. However, all beta testers will get a 50% discount. The discount coupons should arrive to your Steam accounts around the launch time.
In the full version, you can expect a lot of new stuff, compared to the beta:
New solar systems
A new feature, allowing you to change between the regular solar system and a couple of extra ones, affecting anything from Sun type to asteroid mechanics
A whole arsenal of new weapons
Single player campaign mode
Customizable visuals for characters and planets
Plenty of smaller pleasant additions
You’ll love it! We’ll be teasing some of the new stuff on Discord and on our Twitter and Facebook in the upcoming days until launch.
Last but not least: a huge thanks to our mods! Those who’ve been with us through the rough seas of endless key requests and those who kept the order of the server—you’ve been an incredible help. Cor, Jyrgenhaizer, Kirstu, Miko, Sakemanni, SolarSupremacy, Venzenzerz—you guys are the best!
On this note, let’s wrap up. Please, spread the word about Worbital to help us get more attention before the release. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or just tell your friends—we appreciate any help. Wishlisting the game on Steam also helps us directly. Let’s make this a spectacular launch. See you there!
Worbital Beta Extended and Updated
Hey, Worbitalists! You’ve probably had a bombastic weekend of planet destruction, but does it have to stop? After some deliberation we’ve decided that, in fact, it doesn’t.
We announced last Friday that beta will be open 11th-14th of January. Now we have some pleasant news for you: we decided to extend the beta by another couple of days, until Wednesday, January 16th. Enjoy!
During the weekend, we found some network issues with the game—that’s exactly what we were hunting for. Now we have some fixes ready for those issues, and hence we’re putting out a patch. You can find the full changelog below.
Worbital Beta Patch, 0.102.1493_Beta3 - January 14th, 2019

Improved queue stability
Fixes to Discord invites
Lobby Invite button now opens steam invite overlay
Keep on blasting!
Beta’s Back (Again)!
Welcome to the Worbital Beta 3! It is now officially open for the weekend.
As we explained in our previous post, in this beta we’d like to focus on testing servers and network. This means the more people we can get to play the better, so bring your neighbor and your dog! Aside from some polish and fixes, we don’t have much new things to show off—all the juicy stuff is saved up for the launch.
As usual, please, report all bugs and issues you encounter to the #wrb_bug-reports chat. Because we focus on servers and network stability in this beta, pay special attention to issues related to matchmaking queues.
The beta will be open during January 11th-14th. If you had the older beta version, the new update should be available to you automatically. Just launch the game on Steam and have fun. If you didn’t—go the the #wrb_request-beta-key chat on our Discord server and simply ask for a key. Our mods will get back to you as soon as possible. Please, post only one request.
Get your lasers charged and blast you soon!
Worbital Beta Reopens January 11th
Hi, everybody! It’s great to see you again in 2019. As promised in our December status update, we come with news: Worbital beta returns this weekend!
Beta’s final round will take place January 11th-14th. We’ll start giving out keys on Friday the 11th, slightly in advance before the beta opens. As before, if you had a key for the previous Worbital betas, you should have access to this one as well—just update and launch the game and Steam. If you haven’t had a chance to try the beta yet, then here’s your chance! All you need to do is ask for a key once in the #wrb_request-beta-key chat on our official Discord server. Our mods will get back to you as soon as possible.
The main focus of this beta is testing servers and network, so it won’t include any major new additions. We are saving some awesome new stuff for the release instead.
Free up some time for planetary destruction this weekend. See you on Friday!
Happy Holidays!
The year is coming to an end, and what a year it’s been! Before it’s over, here’s a quick summary of Worbital’s 2018.
Early 2018
We’ve been sharing our development progress since about October 2017 (if you’re interested, see our 2017 wrap-up post from a year ago), but 2018 was truly the year Worbital broke out into the world. By March, the alpha version was complete with all the key features of the game functional. After that, we focused on expanding the weapons’ arsenal and developing multiplayer modes. Some wild days were waiting ahead...
Public Beta
By mid-summer, Worbital was ready for a public debut. We launched the public beta in July, and that’s when the magic began. From the very first days, the amount of people wanting to try the game exceeded our most optimistic expectations and, before we knew it, there was a real community building around Worbital. A big difference from our previous game releases was getting to speak to all of you directly through Discord (which, to be honest, sometimes was even too much fun for work days—still totally worth it). Discord also helped arrange community online matches during our Devs Play-events, where we often had our butts handed to us. In the process of it all, you gave us invaluable feedback that helped take Worbital to a whole new level. With some breaks in-between, Worbital beta lasted all the way until the end of October. Some 8,000 beta keys have been given out!
Post Beta 2
For the past month and a half, we’ve been gearing up for the full launch in early 2019—polishing the game, as well as adding some new features. While we’re at it, we hope that all of our beta-testers are still with us and looking forward to the launch as much as we do. Be prepared for some major news in January! It might even involve something about a new beta run...
Until then, all of us at TJR want to wish you happy holidays. Whether you’re with your family, loved ones or by your awesome self—may this holiday season be filled with joy and peace.
Of course, we couldn’t let you go without a little present! Here’s a teaser for one of the newer Worbital weapons:
Hey, Worbitalists! It’s been about three weeks since Worbital beta 2 closed and since we announced the delay of the game’s full release. What have we been up to so far and how is Worbital doing? Let’s take a look together.
First things first: check out our new trailer above. This should be a worthy replacement for the currently outdated trailer on our Steam page and website. The new trailer was inspired by the awesome feedback we got from you during the beta run. Some of you might spot themselves in it…

Now, to the serious business. There are several things we’ve been focusing on over the past weeks. Here are some of the things we’ve been working on:
<*>Network Functionality Improved
We’ve fixed the bug that caused matches to be stuck in loading screen. Good to finally have that one out of the way.
<*>Improving AI
The AI is learning day by day and becoming more fun to play with. It is now better at defending against super weapons, and it’s learned to steer itself when derailed. Soon it’ll outsmart all of us, just you wait.
<*>Updated UI/UXI
Some UI tweaks have been done across the board, making the playing experience more smooth. We’ve made some changes to the Main Menu, the Loadout menu and gameplay UI, making them overall more intuitive.
<*>Unlocking Weapons, Character and Planet CustomizationI
We’ve been working on customization for the looks of advisor characters and player planets. Over the last weeks we’ve expanded the variety of outfits and planet skins. Space fashion show coming up?
Customization items and many of the weapons will be unlockable with the new unlock system. Basically, you earn points after every match and you can use those points to unlock extra weapons for your Battle Kit and other items.
<*>More Weapons
Of course, we’ve added MORE WEAPONS. Can there ever be enough? The new weapons include Cryogenesis, Dragon Missile, Flamethrower, Minefield, Burst Missiles and many others.
See some of those newest weapons demonstrated in the GIFs below.
<*>Bug Fixing, Testing and Polish
Above everything else, for the past weeks we’ve been occupied with bug fixing, polishing and testing the game. Polish is essential now that we are adding new features and weapons, to make sure they all work together well.
Polish and test-test-test. You might’ve spotted “Playing Worbital”-tag on some of the devs’ profiles. No need to feel jealous, we’re only testing the new stuff for you! And having tons of fun while doing it…
<*>New Features
Because our release had been delayed, parts of the team got time to work on a couple of completely new features which weren’t included in the original release plan. We don’t want to give away much yet, but let’s just say that there’s more than one star in the Worbital universe…
In other news: last week, some of us have been showcasing Worbital to gamedev peers from all over the world at the Montreal International Game Summit in Canada. That was probably the last public event we attended with Worbital this year, not that there’s much left of this year anymore.
These are all the news so far. Thank you for continuing to support Worbital during this break. We’ll be back with more news before the holidays. Until then, keep on worbing.
Blast you later!
Worbital Delayed Until Early 2019
“A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.” - Shigeru Miyamoto
Thank you so much for participating in Worbital Beta 2! Unfortunately, issues came up during the Beta 2 run that forced a difficult choice upon us—as a result, we have decided to postpone the launch of Worbital from its predicted launch date of late 2018 to early 2019.
While we hadn’t formally announced a release date, the implication had been that it was just around the corner, which it was, but is no longer. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment, but you can be absolutely sure, Worbital will be much better for it.
The rescheduling has given us some new challenges, but primarily, new opportunities. The extra time will allow parts of the team to focus on new features and weapons, in addition to the planned necessary fixes and polish. You can consider these new features as a big bonus to reward you for your patience.
We’ll be hanging around the Team Jolly Roger Discord as always, chatting and answering questions. However, we’ll do fewer teasers than before, as constant reminders certainly wouldn’t make the wait any easier. A status update every few weeks should keep you nicely up to speed. So, do stick around and let’s make this delay more bearable for us all.
Once again, sorry for making you wait. We wouldn’t do this if we weren’t absolutely sure that it will be worth it.
