World Boss arrives in Early Access
At PlaySide, we’re passionate about making great games and connecting players through amazing experiences. Our team, in conjunction with LazarBeam and Fresh, wanted to create a familiar-yet-unique FPS centred on those adrenaline-pumping moments we all live for.
We originally set out to experiment with different competing styles of gaming. We took the quick drop-in and drop-out nature of .io games, the customisation of roguelites, and merged it with the strategy and mechanical finesse of a first person shooter.
The result is World Boss. We are delighted to be bringing it to Early Access.
A key strategy of our game development process for titles like these is bringing both partners and players closer to the development process as early as possible. This helps ensure we’re able to incorporate player feedback throughout the development and enable us to make better decisions faster. World Boss Open Beta begins 10 October
We’re on the hunt for new World Bosses to join the fray! LazarBeam, Fresh and the World Boss team are excited to announce that we’ll be running Open Beta for World Boss beginning this Monday, 10 October at 10am AEDT and live through to Early Access launch. No sign up required!
For those in other time zones, we’ve got a handy start time guide for you:
CEST (Amsterdam): Monday, 10 October at 1am
EDT (New York): Sunday, 9 October at 7pm
PDT (Los Angeles): Sunday, 9 October at 4pm

How do I play?
If you’ve not taken part in the Closed Beta sessions, head over to the World Boss Store Page and press the World Boss Playtest request button. Once the Open Beta is live, you should be notified by Steam when you have been given access to the game!

What is World Boss?
World Boss is a casual free-to-play first person shooter with a unique mix of open-ended IO-inspired gameplay and roguelike progression in a lightweight and fast-paced multiplayer experience for all ages. World Boss allows you to combine Weapons, Perks and Equipment in a multitude of ways to suit your playstyle.
What is the goal of World Boss? When do matches end?
This is where the IO inspiration comes in! There are no rounds, no lobbies, no two sessions are the same. The current Quickplay experience is delivered as an “endless” session, with no discrete ending - the goal is to get to the top. Drop right into a session and play for as long as you like, while other players in your region do the same. Delete your foes, level up, and Prestige to discover a new build.
What does the World Boss get? How does it work?
World Boss pits 16 players against each other in breakneck FPS combat. Players will need to take down other Gladiators to level up and unlock upgradeable weapons and powerful, game-changing perks. The player at the top of the table will unlock the title of ‘World Boss,’ obtaining a buff, a crown befitting a champion, and the attention of everyone else on the server.
