Set Up Your Strategy!

Art of Strategy is an event that features many brand-new and unique mechanics for World of Tanks. During the event, to make the gameplay experience more enjoyable for both Tankers and Strategists, some balance changes and tweaks may be made, including significant ones.

Art of Strategy battles take place in two formats for Tier X vehicles only.

  • 1v7 format. Seven Tankers fight against one Strategist who commands seven AI-controlled vehicles in real time. For combat, the Strategist also selects three (out of six) types of defenses.
  • 1v1 format. In this duel, two Strategists will fight for supremacy. Both players start on an equal footing with seven AI-controlled vehicles each. Before battle, both Strategists can deploy three types of defenses to pre-arranged positions.
From April 21 through 24, only 1v1 battles will be available in the event. Use this time to learn the specifics of playing as a Strategist and to master the variety of available tools. Try different squad compositions, choose various defenses, and use a variety of tactics. This will help you oppose the Tankers more effectively in the 1v7 format once it is unlocked.

Starting from April 25, you will need special event currency—Intel and Orders—to play as the Strategist in the 1v7 and 1v1 formats. You can earn them by playing as a Tanker, as well as by completing a special daily mission (more about that below). Intel and Orders are credited depending on the result of battles within the event and are distributed among players on the Tanker team.

You will also receive 300 Orders as a starting bonus when you first log in to the game after April 25.

  • To play as a Strategist against the Tankers in the 1v7 format, you need 100 Intel.
  • To fight against another Strategist in the 1v1 format, 100 Orders are required.
If the queue time to enter battle is too long, or the number of Strategists is insufficient, the matchmaker may allow you to play as a Strategist even if you do not have the required quantity of Intel and Orders.

To make sure that you always have enough event currency to play in the event, we have designed a special daily mission that will be available in-game from April 25 through May 4. You can find it in the “MISSIONS” tab of your Garage.

Help Is on the Way

Conditions:

  • Play 5 battles and be among the top 10 players on your team by Combat XP earned

Rewards:

  • 300 Intel
  • 300 Orders

Restrictions:

  • Random and Grand Battles only
  • Once per day
  • Only in Tier VI–X vehicles
Completing this mission will give you the opportunity to play six more battles as the Strategist: three in the 1v1 format, and three in the 1v7 format. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the event for longer!

Now let’s take a detailed look at the event itself.

General Rules

  • The Strategist has a squad of seven AI-controlled Tier X vehicles under their command. They can fight without directly controlling each vehicle, but if they do not set Stances or issue the appropriate commands (e.g., attack, withdraw, capture the base, etc.), they will not be victorious. The Strategist also sets routes for their vehicles, watching the battlefield from a bird's-eye view and moving freely over the map.
  • Additionally, the Strategist has auxiliary defenses at their disposal. These cannot be controlled directly. Their positions are fixed, and they act as independent combat units.
  • During the countdown before battle (60 seconds), the Strategist should deploy their vehicles and defenses at the pre-arranged key positions on the map or use the auto-deploy function. If you run out of time for deployment, the system will deploy the remaining units automatically.
  • At any time, the Strategist can assume control of any vehicle in their squad and command it individually.
  • In each battle, the Tanker team and the Strategist will earn credits, depending on the battle outcome and their personal performance:

Objectives of the Teams

Each team in the Art of Strategy event has the same objective: destroy all enemy vehicles or capture the base.

The base capture time is 60 seconds for both the Tankers and the Strategist, regardless of the number of vehicles participating in the capture.

If neither team completes its objective within the allotted time, the battle ends in a draw.

Playing as a Tanker

Playing as a Tanker should feel familiar to you as it is similar to what you are used to in Random Battles.

During the countdown before battle, the Tankers can decide on their tactics and distribute the roles in the squad, taking into account the vehicles they have selected. Act as a team—this is the key to success. Breaking the defense of the Strategist and repelling their counterattacks alone will be extremely difficult.

Always be aware of the defenses that the Strategist has at their disposal. Concealed Watchtowers will warn the Strategist of your approach. At the same time, Flamethrowers, MRLs (Multiple Rocket Launchers), and other defenses can repel even the most rapid attack and provide support if the Strategist starts an offensive.

Depending on the battle results, the Tankers will receive Intel and Orders—in-game currencies that are distributed among all commanders. The better your performance and the more base experience you earn, the more Intel and Orders you will receive.

Playing as a Strategist: Stances and Commands

When playing as a Strategist, you will have a squad of seven vehicles at your disposal. Each of them is a full-fledged AI-controlled combat unit. Watching the battle from a strategic view and assessing the combat situation, you can set routes and one of three Stances for the vehicles. Stances are certain patterns of behavior on the battlefield that the vehicles follow when under AI control:

Adapt

Default Stance for all the Strategist's vehicles. Vehicles will seek cover within a certain radius of the designated position and will defend the area by firing at attacking opponents.

Recon

Vehicles seek cover and transmit scouting data to their allies, trying to stay concealed. When spotted, the vehicles will try to withdraw to cover. If no cover can be found, they will engage the opponent.

Hold

Vehicles hold the designated position and engage targets when possible. Vehicles will change their positions only after receiving a command to attack.

[expand type="details"]
When executing this Stance, vehicles with a limited horizontal gun or turret arc (e.g., the Badger, K-91, etc.) will seek targets and rotate their hull to cover a 90° sector of fire set by the Strategist.

[/expand]
You can set Stances for vehicles not only in battle but also before it starts (both on the Squad Panel and during the countdown).

In addition to setting Stances, the Strategist can give commands to attack, withdraw, defend the base, etc. There are seven commands in total. Here's how the vehicles respond to them:

Attack

The vehicle opens fire at the selected target if it is able to do so.

Charge

The vehicle will try to get as close as possible to the selected target and engage it in close combat, trying to attack it from the side or rear. It continues until the target is destroyed or the command is canceled.

Move

The vehicle moves to the specified point without stopping. If, on the way, it encounters an enemy that can be damaged or destroyed, it will stop to attack. Having reached the specified position, the vehicle will continue executing the set Stance.

Rush

The vehicle will move to the specified point via the shortest path possible. It will fire on the move, but it won't stop to fire. Once in position, it will continue to execute the set Stance.

Withdraw

The vehicle will withdraw along the shortest path to the specified point, keeping its frontal armor to the enemy. Once in position, it will continue to execute the set Stance.

Capture Base

A variation of the Move command. The vehicle will stay within the enemy base.

Defend Base

Another variation of the Move command. The vehicle will move to its base and try to prevent base capturing.

The Strategist can give a series of commands. To do this, add several commands to the queue while holding Shift. The vehicle will execute them sequentially in the order they were added to the queue. If you have given a command or series of commands, pressing the Spacebar will cancel them.

In battle, each vehicle from the Strategist's squad will be marked with a special commander icon and a sequence number. You can quickly switch between them by using the corresponding number keys. You can also command several vehicles at once by adding them to groups.

Manual Control of Vehicles by the Strategist

Are you ready to finish the enemy off and ensure a spectacular victory? Or maybe the situation on the battlefield is becoming critical and it is necessary to repel an attack by the Tankers at all costs? Assume control of any vehicle in your squad and command it individually. This way, you can show your skills and turn the tide of battle at the right time.

To assume control of a vehicle, select it and press Q. Please note that assuming control of a vehicle stops all orders given to that vehicle. Press Q again to stop controlling the vehicle.

Defenses

The Strategist has defenses at their disposal. They will automatically assist the Strategist in battle. The Strategist cannot give commands to defenses but can deploy them to key positions on the map during the countdown before battle. Each defense has its own range and parameters.

Preparing Squads

Vehicles for the Strategist's squad are selected in the event Garage. Click the squad composition button and fill all seven slots with Tier X vehicles. You will be able to select any researchable and collectible Tier X vehicles that exist in the game, with the following exceptions:

  • Vehicles earned for various in-game activities (e.g., T95/FV4201 Chieftain, Object 279 early, etc.)
  • Panhard EBR 105
  • ST-II
  • Strv 103B
  • M-V-Y
  • CS-63
All vehicles selected by the Strategist will have equipment, consumables, and a crew trained to 100%, regardless of the availability and condition of such vehicles in the player's Garage.

Slots for the Strategist's vehicles have restrictions on the vehicle type. Additionally, you cannot have two identical vehicles in a squad. Experiment and choose a squad composition that best suits your playstyle. This will allow you to fend off the Tankers more effectively and increase your chances of victory. The Strategist can also select defenses on the Squad Panel.

Once the squad is ready, click the "Battle!" button to start the battle.

To enter battle, the Tankers need to select a Tier X vehicle in their Garage. It should be repaired and have a full crew and ammo loaded. The Tankers cannot join battle in a wheeled vehicle or in vehicles earned for activities on the Global Map and for Personal Missions.

Build the Event Collection and Get Rewards!

The Art of Strategy progression consists of four consecutive Stages and involves assembling the event Collection with different customization elements. To fill the progression meter and complete the Stages, you need to fulfill special missions in the event.

Each day, you will have access to two daily missions for both the Strategist and the Tankers. For completing two missions for the Strategist, you will receive two random Collection items. The same goes for completing two missions for the Tankers. Every customization item is unique—each one will drop just once. They include styles, medals, inscriptions, decals, badges, and five unique and fully trained crew members with Brothers in Arms as a zero perk, plus enough experience to learn an additional perk of your choice.

Leopard 1, T110Е4, and Kranvagn: Consumables and Tactics

The Core Vehicles within Battle Pass Season VII include three vehicles with different play styles: the Leopard 1 (medium tank), the T110E4 (tank destroyer), and the Kranvagn (heavy tank). Their Point Limits have been increased to 1,000, and they have special rules for earning Battle Pass Points in Random Battles.

See You in the Garage!

The T110E4 is basically a portable pillbox with decent armor and a gun that can crush everything it might face on the battlefield. This tank destroyer features a turret with a turning angle of 180 degrees, which gives an additional advantage in battle. In urban areas and narrow streets with limited space for maneuvers, an encounter with the T110E4 may not end well for the enemy.

When fighting at close quarters, don't forget about the weak spots of this tank destroyer. First of all, about the commander's cupola, which is vulnerable even to Tier VIII vehicles. The gun mantlet is not able to repel shells that can penetrate 300 mm of armor. The lower glacis plate is also vulnerable, but the upper plate remains solid in most cases.

The above points suggest several game tactics that depend on the choice of equipment. For example, the use of Improved Aiming (especially Bounty Aiming), Improved Ventilation, and Gun Rammer will increase how effectively it causes damage to enemy vehicles at medium range.

The combination of Improved Rotation Mechanism, Improved Ventilation, and Gun Rammer will become an all-purpose set. This equipment will improve the reload time and maneuverability of this tank destroyer.

When in close combat, choose a hull-down position that covers the lower glacis plate, and also keep turning the turret to make it hard for the opponent to aim at its vulnerable spots.

Field Modification allows you to switch between these combinations, depending on the map. This will give you an additional advantage in battle.

Swedish Berserker

The Kranvagn is one of those vehicles in which you feel confident against any opponent if you manage to play hull-down. While opponents try to aim at the Kranvagn's vulnerable spots, which is far from easy, this Swede can effectively discharge a full magazine in return. By the way, its reload time of 21.5 seconds clearly shows others who the true king of the hill is.

This vehicle is a true berserker and doesn't care which enemy it attacks, as long as its own hull is covered by terrain. Neither the Object 268 Version 4 nor the Jagdpanzer E 100 can do anything to this vehicle in such a situation.

[th]ːsteamthumbsupː Good depression/elevation angles

ːsteamthumbsupː 3-shell magazine loading system[/th]
[th]ːsteamthumbsdownː Mediocre hull armoring

[/th]

A high damage per shot of 440 HP, good stabilization, decent aiming time for a heavy tank, and a gun depression angle of –12 degrees make the Kranvagn extremely dangerous in battle. Just think about it: three shells in the magazine and a reload time of 21.5 seconds. In just over a minute, it can discharge three magazines at its opponents!

The sheer intensity of the Kranvagn's fire can turn the tide of the battle or force encroaching opponents to retreat. But retreat for the enemy is hardly an option either, as this vehicle features a high top speed of 60 km/h.

Therefore, do not stay on the defensive for too long. Once you have an opportunity for an attack, feel free to exchange your durability points, because the opponent will definitely lose more—or even end up back in the Garage.

It makes sense to mount Improved Hardening, Vertical Stabilizer, or Turbocharger on this vehicle.

This is very simple. Improved Hardening provides additional durability points and increases suspension durability (low-damage shells will not be able to destroy the tracks). Vertical Stabilizer will increase the effectiveness of fire and reduce the time required for aiming, meaning your vehicle will be exposed to enemy fire for a shorter time. Turbocharger will improve mobility, so the vehicle will be able to change position faster or catch a fleeing enemy.

The Most Dangerous of the Felines in World of Tanks

One can hardly name another vehicle with such good gun-handling parameters as those of the Leopard 1. The L7A3, with its high-velocity AP shells, is closer to a laser than a gun. When firing from mid-range, there is no need to lead a target. Moreover, this gun stands out for its short aiming time and excellent armor penetration values for both the standard and special ammo.

The Leopard 1 can easily cause damage even to heavily armored targets and successfully deal with fast and maneuverable opponents, which makes it one of the best fire support vehicles in the game.
ːsteamthumbsupː Basic view range of 410 m[/th]
[th]ːsteamthumbsdownː Poor armoring

ːsteamthumbsdownː Small HP pool[/th]

The vehicle has an excellent view range (410 m), decent damage per shot (420 HP), and a fairly short reload time. All of the above, in combination with good mobility, gives you an all-purpose gizmo that can quickly change flanks and cause considerable damage to enemy vehicles.

The only drawback of this vehicle is its poor armor. So when playing in this vehicle, close combat is the surest way to end up back in the Garage. If the Sound Detection perk warns you of an enemy SPG firing a shot, change position immediately! Even an indirect hit can cause a lot of damage.

The Leopard 1's universal equipment set will include Improved Ventilation, Vertical Stabilizer, and Gun Rammer. With this combination mounted, you can feel comfortable on any map in the game.

In conclusion, here are the main guidelines for playing the Leopard 1:

  • Quickly take key points at the beginning of the battle using bushes and trees for additional concealment to reveal the initial maneuvers of the opposing team, spot enemy vehicles for your allies, and make a few effective shots.
  • The vehicle comes into its own in the mid-to-end stages of the battle when it is critical to outplay opponents tactically, and where every shot counts. In such situations, the Leopard 1's key characteristics—good view range, excellent speed, high accuracy, and great armor penetration values—become the keys to victory.
We hope our gameplay tips are useful for you. Use these vehicles wisely in battle and earn even more Battle Pass Points. By the way, they can be exchanged not only for vehicles but also for valuable Bounty Equipment, which will significantly improve your favorite tanks!

Update 1.16.1 is Here!

Update 1.16.1 is coming, Commanders!

Try out the new features in the aiming interface, fight as Strategists and Tankers in the newest Art of Strategy event, and get ready for the return of Frontline, featuring game and balance adjustments!

New Vehicle Outlining

We’re introducing two new features to the aiming interface to help you hit opponents with greater accuracy.

The rendering of various obstacles that are inside the vehicle collision model will be useful when aiming at enemy vehicles that are obstructed by bushes, fences, etc. When you see an opponent in the crosshair, obstacles inside its collision model will be highlighted with two types of special rendering, depending on whether the shell can penetrate them or not.

Vehicle outlining by collision model will help you identify all the external "through" elements on a potential target that it makes no sense to aim at. The hull and turret of all vehicles will be highlighted by the collision model, while the suspension will still be outlined by the visual model.

By default, these new features will be disabled in the game client. You can enable them manually in the Reticle tab in the game settings.

Important: Enabling these settings may cause performance issues, especially on low-spec PCs.

The new vehicle outlining is an experimental solution that significantly affects the aiming process and your gameplay experience. We're getting mixed feedback on these changes and will continue to monitor them closely to see what impact they may have on key game parameters. With your help, we will see what the future holds for this feature.

The Brand-New Milton Pact 3D Style for the Concept 1B

This Season, we'll update the list of exclusive Ranked Battles goodies available for bonds. This time, we’ve added the brand-new Milton Pact 3D style for the Concept 1B. You can get it for 5,000 bonds once you reach the Second Division.

The imposing and eye-catching Milton Pact custom look continues the visual concept of the Garmr 3D style for the Kampfpanzer 50 t, which was introduced in Season 2. It will turn your Concept 1B into a formidable hunk of steel and granite, within which a bright flame burns. The style has an unusual effect—you can see drops of burning lava falling from the vehicle's hull. Just looking at it will leave your opponents in awe and make your allies jealous, so if you have the Concept 1B in your Garage, this style is a must!

Improved Reward Screen

We also improved the reward selection screen, so now it will be even easier to redeem the pieces of improved equipment you will receive as part of the Annual Reward. This year, you’ll be able to grab up to three different items of improved equipment of your choice from all existing equipment in this category, including Improved Compressor and Increased Shell Resistance, which are currently exclusive to Ranked Battles and unavailable for bonds. Think carefully before selecting!

Progression System: A Quick Recap

The final Season has the same basic rules. We're sure you remember them, but here’s a small summary just in case:

  • Battles take place in the 10v10 format in Tier X vehicles.
  • No more than one SPG and two light tanks per team will be allowed in battles.
  • To ascend in rank in order to qualify for Leagues, you need to earn the following amount of chevrons:

    • EU: 94 chevrons
    • CIS: 94 chevrons
    • NA: 70 chevrons
    • APAC: 70 chevrons
When you qualify for a League, you’ll be able to complete special daily missions. There will be three missions in total, and each one can be completed in vehicles of four different roles. In total, missions for 12 different vehicle roles will be available. They will reward you with bonds and Daily Bonus Battles.

Be Part of the Ranked Elite!

Want to compare your battle performance with other tank aces fighting in Ranked Battles? Check out the special Leaderboard that will highlight the names of the top Ranked Battles 2021–2022 players when the Season ends. This ranking will be determined by your effectiveness throughout all three Seasons. Only the best 200 players will be listed on the Leaderboard, so try your hardest to get to the top and lead the ranked elite!

If you make it to the Leaderboard, you’ll receive the unique Ranked Battles Champion badge that you can apply as a symbol of glory and tank mastery.

Make the Final Push and Grab Your Annual Reward!

Based on the results of the three Seasons of Ranked Battles 2021–2022, the bravest and most skilled players will get the long-awaited Annual Reward. Depending on the number of Rank Tokens you have earned, you will receive one of the four rewards. This Season is your last chance to earn up to five Rank Tokens, so do your best to get a better Annual Reward!

Each item of equipment is available for selection only once. If you don't make a selection by September 2022, improved equipment will be automatically credited according to the following priority:

  • Increased Shell Resistance
  • Improved Compressor
  • Innovative Loading System
EXAMPLES

  1. If you have already redeemed Increased Shell Resistance as part of your Annual Reward and, after that, you still have one more piece of equipment to choose from, then you will be credited with Improved Compressor.
  2. If you have redeemed Experimental Optics (for example) as part of your Annual Reward and, after that, you still have one more piece of equipment to choose from, then you will be credited with Increased Shell Resistance according to the list of equipment priority mentioned above.

The 114 SP2: Everything You Need for Good Hunting

The main reward in Ranked Battles 2021–2022 is the 114 SP2, a Tier X Chinese tank destroyer. This mighty predator features a fully rotating turret and has everything you need for good hunting. Despite its light armor, the 114 SP2 is extremely dangerous in duels at any distance thanks to its powerful and accurate gun that causes 650 HP of alpha damage.

High concealment values, great armor penetration, and short aiming time make this vehicle perfect for ambushing enemies, leaving them no chance of escape. The 114 SP2 is worth fighting for, so make the final push to add it to your tank collection!

The parameters displayed are valid for the vehicle with each crew member trained to 100% major qualification level. Some vehicle characteristics can be further improved with the commander's bonus to major qualification level, crew perks and skills, as well as special in-game items.

1 Rank Token = 500 bonds

Battle Pass: Season VII Is Coming!

In early March, the seventh Season of Battle Pass kicks off. It will run for almost three months and introduces several important changes.

The new Season will consist of three main Chapters, but now you can complete them in any order. You can also pause the completion of a Chapter and switch to a different one to grab the rewards you need the most.

This is the opening Season of 2022 and the first of the year in which you can earn Battle Pass Tokens—a special in-game currency. They will accumulate throughout the year in all Seasons of Battle Pass in which you participate in 2022. Use Battle Pass Tokens to redeem cool Tier IX reward vehicles, including two formidable brand-new tanks, the Cobra and the Lorraine 50 t.

A new Reward section of the in-game Store will be introduced where you’ll be able to redeem bonds and the following rewards:

  • 3D styles for all Battle Pass Core Vehicles from the previous six Seasons
  • Unique crew members from Season IV onwards
It will become available once you complete all three main Chapters. Plus, an additional time-limited Chapter with a special challenge will become available at the end of the Season.

And of course, the seventh Season will feature three new (and iconic!) Battle Pass Core Vehicles, each with its own unique progressive style: the Kranvagn, the Leopard 1, and the T110E4.
