Dirigible Derby
Update 0.11.1 sees the start flag drop on a new temporary battle type codenamed "Dirigible Derby."
Airships historically carried intelligence agents bearing important messages and diplomats traveling to conduct secret negotiations in neutral territories. The new battle type tasks you with a mission to delay the hostile airship while also making sure that your allied airship is the first to reach the destination point.
Starts:Thu. 17 Feb. 06:00 CET (UTC+1) Ends:Thu. 17 Mar. 06:00 CET (UTC+1)
Maps: Islands of Ice, Hotspot, Warrior's Path, Shards, Estuary, Trident, and Sea of Fortune.
Battles will be held in a 12 vs. 12 format with Tier X ships.
You can enter each battle either alone or as part of a Division of up to three players.
Each team has an invulnerable airship that travels along a fixed route. Your team's mission is to either be the first to have their airship reach the end of its route or to destroy all enemy ships. The routes and locations of the airships are visible to both teams on the Minimap. A special bar will also help you keep track of which airship is closer to reaching the destination point. Each team can affect the speed of both the allied and hostile airships. Each airship has an interactive zone with a 3 km radius displayed around it. The airships will move faster if only allied ships are within their zone, and they will slow down if at least one enemy ship manages to sneak inside it.
Achievements and Combat Missions
Your successes in Dirigible Derby will be rewarded with special themed achievements:

[th][/th][th]Achievement Name[/th][th]Condition[/th]

Snatched Glory Win by destroying all enemy ships when the enemy airship is near the very end of the route.

Held at Bay Continuously slow down the enemy airship for a minute.

Relentless Win after having continuously accelerated the allied airship for 5 minutes.

Push Ahead, Hold Them Back Simultaneously speed up your allied airship and slow down the enemy airship.

Photo Finish Win by bringing your allied airship to the destination point with a slight lead over the enemy airship while also speeding up the allied airship or slowing down the enemy airship at the end of the battle.

Due to the specifics of the battle type, you can only earn these achievements in Dirigible Derby.
You will also have access to special daily and weekly combat missions that can only be completed in Dirigible Derby. Win and earn Base XP to obtain Community Tokens. Detailed information about the mission completion criteria can be found in the game client.
Super Zeppelin: Behind the Scenes
When implementing our idea of an escort-based game mode, we decided that we would need a mobile marker that would be visible across the entire map. At this point, we realized that instead of an artificial UI element, we could turn the escorted vehicle itself into the marker by elevating it into the sky. Airplanes are both too fast and too small to serve this purpose — thus the airship idea was born. We already had several models in-game to work with, the largest and most recognizable being the German Zeppelin LZ-127. However, even a giant of almost 237 meters in length wasn't large enough for our needs.
Simply doubling the size of this airship would be an affront to historical authenticity and engineering. Therefore, we had to urgently design a plausible new airship. We dubbed her the "Super Zeppelin."
[expand style="more"][/expand] The new giant turned out to be 519 meters long and 67 meters in diameter. To build the airship, we used the same design principles that were used in the prototype Zeppelin. It's clear that such an airship would not fit into existing hangars, but it could be built out in the open on a flat area, similar to how ships are made.
The purpose of such a large airship could have been regular communications with South America, a continent which Germany had been actively building relations with from the beginning of the 20th century. Therefore, we've made a cargo-and-passenger airship with a two-tiered control cabin, an observation lounge at the top of the hull, and a large cargo compartment near the center of mass. The Super Zeppelin's load capacity would be 150 tons, and its dry weight would be about 450 tons. To be able to maintain a speed of approximately 120 km/h, the number of engines has been increased by a factor of four, which amounts to 20 Maybach VL IIs.
We had only a short amount of time to develop this model, but, as you can see, the project was very carefully thought out and no detail was spared. For example, we made folding ramps in the cargo compartment so that trucks could enter and unload using an internal overhead crane or special loaders. As a result of our work, we have the desired marker, which is a realistic object that feels cohesive with the overall scope of World of Warships.
Update 0.11.1—Pan-Asian Cruisers: Part 2

Second stage of Early Access to the Pan-Asian cruisers.
A new temporary battle type called Dirigible Derby.

Pan-Asian Cruisers
In Update 0.11.1, Pan-Asian cruisers continue to be available in Early Access. Ships of the new branch are equipped with main guns that have a rather small caliber but high rate of fire. They carry powerful deepwater torpedoes that pose a deadly threat to all ship types except destroyers. This, however, comes at a price—the new ships cannot boast of having high survivability.
[expand style="more"][/expand]
Consumables
Smoke Generator with a reduced cooldown time for all ships of the branch.
Defensive AA Fire for the new cruisers of Tier VI and above.
Torpedo Reload Booster for the ships of Tier VII and above.
IX Sejong and X Jinan are equipped with Repair Party.
Early Access
VI Rahmat, VIII Harbin, and X Jinan—all hitting the high seas in Early Access with the release of Update 0.11.0—continue to be available in sequential bundles in the Armory.
VI Rahmat and VIII Harbin, along with other rewards, can be obtained in bundles available in exchange for Pan-Asian Tokens.
Once you've obtained all the sequential bundles for Tokens, you'll be able to grab X Jinan for Doubloons.
IX Sejong is available in random bundles for Doubloons.
To celebrate the arrival of the Pan-Asian cruisers in Early Access, we've updated the Dragon Port. You will also have access to a dedicated combat mission to obtain the Pan-Asian Cruisers: Part 2 commemorative flag. Details of the mission will be available in the game client.
[expand style="more"][/expand]
When Update 0.11.2 goes live, the Pan-Asian cruisers will become available for all players to research.
Dirigible Derby
Update 0.11.1 kicks off a temporary battle type named "Dirigible Derby."
Historically, airships carried intelligence agents with important messages and diplomats traveling to conduct secret negotiations in neutral territories. The new battle type tasks you with a mission to delay the hostile airship while also making sure that your allied airship is the first to reach the destination point.
Rules
Each team will have an invulnerable airship that moves along a fixed route. Your team's mission is to outrun the opposing team in escorting their airship to the end of the route or destroy all enemy ships.
The teams can affect the speed of both allied and hostile airships. Each airship has an interactive zone with a 3 km radius displayed around it. The airship will move faster if only allied ships are within that zone and will slow down if at least one enemy ship manages to sneak inside it.
Format: 12 vs. 12 playing Tier X ships.
[expand style="more"][/expand]
The full details of the Dirigible Derby will follow in a separate article.
Personal Challenges
Update 0.11.1 brings back Personal Challenges. Your goal during the event is to earn as much base XP as possible while showing off your skills in battle playing ships of different types and nations. More details will follow in a dedicated article.
We've updated the rewards, and the table of records will be reset 2 weeks after the update goes live. This means that the rewards will again become available to any players who manage to reach the top level prior to the reset.
You can take up Personal Challenges in Random, Ranked, and Co-op Battles, as well as in Dirigible Derby.
Rewards
Each completed Personal Challenge mission will bring you 1x Mediterranean Token and 50 Coal.
The event is split into two rounds, each 2 weeks long.
In the span of 2 weeks, you can get a maximum of 50 Tokens.
After reaching the maximum weekly limit, each completed task will bring only 50 Coal.
Once the table is reset, you'll be able to earn Tokens again.
The entire event can bring you as many as 100 Mediterranean Tokens.
Navigate to "Gibraltar Pillars"—a special tab in the Armory—to exchange Mediterranean Tokens for sequential bundles and other rewards. You will have access to two types of sequential bundles. They include one of two new ships—VI Dido or VI Canarias—clad in the Atlantic permanent camouflage, as well as Firepower Premium containers, which can drop Tier X ships. Mediterranean Tokens can be exchanged until the end of Update 0.11.2.
The number of Tokens you can grab for free by progressing through Personal Challenges will be enough to get VI Dido or VI Canarias and one Firepower container.
VI Dido, named in honor of Queen Dido—the legendary founder of Carthage—served extensively in the Mediterranean during World War II. The ship is armed with ten 133 mm main guns and torpedoes that have a decent reload time and speed. She can also choose between firing all of her torpedoes in a single salvo or one at a time. Despite somewhat mediocre survivability, the ship boasts good concealment and agility characteristics. She is propelled by an engine with enhanced parameters that allow her to gain or drop speed fast. However, the cruiser lacks the Propulsion Modification 1 upgrade in Slot 4. Dido is equipped with Defensive AA Fire and Short-Burst Smoke Generator, which has lots of charges and a short reset timer but also a short smoke setting time and individual smoke clouds that don't last very long. VI Canarias was built in Spain in the 1930s using a British design (Armstrong). During World War II, Spain remained neutral, and the means of identification the cruiser carried on both of her sides was the country's national flag. The ship is armed with eight 203 mm main guns that can fire only AP shells with enhanced ricochet angles. The guns have a long firing range and good reload time for their caliber. Canarias' survivability is quite solid, but this feature comes at the cost of rather mediocre maneuverability. The range of consumables the ship has access to includes Hydroacoustic Search and Engine Boost—a consumable that isn't typically found on cruisers and provides the ship a 15% boost to her maximum speed. Firepower containers have chances of dropping a new ship named X Forrest Sherman—the lead ship of a series of destroyers that were built after World War II and designed with the experience gained from the conflict in mind. The ship relies on three rapid-firing 127 mm main guns that spit HE and SAP shells, as well as four 533 mm single torpedo mounts—two on either side of the ship. They have a long reach and good reload time but a narrow aiming sector. The destroyer is equipped with Hydroacoustic Search, Defensive AA Fire, and Smoke Generator with a small number of charges, but she has no access to Engine Boost. The destroyer will also be available in the Armory in exchange for Coal later.

All other details about the container mechanics will be released later.
Changes to the In-Game Economy
Damage to Aircraft
The economic reward for destroying aircraft will now be distributed in the same way as the reward for damaging and destroying ships. Some Credits and XP will be issued not only for shooting aircraft down but also for dealing damage to them.
On average, the amount of resources earned won't change, but the reward will be easier to obtain.
Ammunition Resupply
The costs of resupplying aircraft carrier ammunition and the Airstrike armament will now be calculated by reference to the amount of ammunition used rather than the number of aircraft lost. Credits will also be spent on resupplying depth charges used by destroyers and cruisers.
These steps will bring the costs of resupplying aircraft carrier ammunition, the Airstrike armament, and depth charges in line with the other types of ammunition.
Aircraft Carrier XP
We've reworked the way XP is earned by Tier VIII and X carriers. They will now earn more for sinking enemies and less for damaging them.
Previously, good battle performance playing Tier VIII and X carriers yielded a smaller reward compared to the other ship types. Even sinking numerous enemy ships hardly ever placed carriers among the top XP earners on the team. Now, effective performance in battle will result in a bigger reward.
Content Additions and Changes
Armory
The following ships will become available in the Armory with the release of Update 0.11.1:
X Khabarovsk, a never-built project of an armored destroyer flotilla leader for the Soviet Navy. The ship is armed with eight powerful 130 mm main battery guns, as well as two quintuple-tube torpedo launchers. Her torpedoes have low detectability and are capable of dealing decent damage, but they are also slow and have a short range. The ship enjoys good armor protection for her type, a decent HP pool, and high speed, but she has mediocre maneuverability and high detectability. The destroyer is equipped with the Engine Boost consumable, as well as Smoke Generator or Repair Party in a single slot. The ship will be available for 240,000 Coal.
X Grosser Kurfürst is one of the possible development variants of the H-class battleship project. The ship is armed with twelve 406 mm main battery guns. She also carries alternative 420 mm guns with a longer reload time but more powerful shells than those of the standard guns. The battleship has numerous long-range secondary battery guns, an extensive HP pool, and excellent armor with a well-protected citadel and high level of protection against HE shells. At the same time, the ship has mediocre torpedo protection and high detectability. She is equipped with Repair Party and Hydroacoustic Search with long ship spotting and torpedo acquisition ranges. She can also choose between the Fighter and Spotting Aircraft consumables. The ship will be available for 256,000 Coal.
The Weird City permanent camouflage for X Austin will be added and available for 10 Ranked Tokens. With the release of Update 0.11.1, the following changes will occur in the Naval Community tab:
A bundle with a Symbols of Yukon patch and commemorative flag for 4,000 Community Tokes will be added.
The Recruiting Station flag will be removed.
With the release of Update 0.11.1, all Star Tokens will be converted into Credits at the rate of 1:9,000.
Tech Tree
With the release of Update 0.11.1, X Grosser Kurfürst and X Khabarovsk will be replaced in their branches by X Preussen and X Delny, respectively.
More details about the Tech Tree changes are available in a special article. With the release of the update, the following ships will be added to the Armory: X Grosser Kurfürst—for 256,000 Coal; X Khabarovsk—for 240,000 Coal.
If a player has X Grosser Kurfürst and X Khabarovsk in their Port when the replacement happens, they will receive compensation in the form of a sum of Credits equal to half of these ships' cost. If you already own these ships, you won't lose them—they will stay on your account.
The compensation for X Grosser Kurfürst is 10,300,000 Credits.
If a player has researched the ship's 420 mm main battery guns, they will receive a compensation of an additional 35,000 XP for this ship.
If a player has purchased the ship's 420 mm main battery guns, they will also receive an additional 2,500,000 Credits as compensation.
The compensation for X Khabarovsk is 9,400,000 Credits.
All players who own any permanent camouflage for X Khabarovsk or X Grosser Kurfürst at the time when the ships are removed from the Tech Tree will receive the Type 20 permanent camouflage for X Delny or X Preussen, respectively.
Other
The armor of X Audacious and VIII Enterprise has been updated due to the implementation of the new technology we discussed in the article about Update 0.10.9. We'll continue reworking ships in future updates to gradually accommodate the new armor protection system.
This update brings the following content to the game:
Commander Pedro Max Fernando Frontin for Pan-American ships.
The Yatagarasu, Cat the Cap, and Dokkaebi patches.
Details on how to obtain this content will be announced later.
Other Improvements
Changes to Bots
We've completely reworked the AI system behind the in-game bots. The new system makes setting up bots for various battle types and in-game scenarios simpler and faster.
We've simplified the behavior algorithm of bots for all difficulty levels in the Training Rooms. We don't expect any considerable changes to bot behavior in Operations, Co-op Battles, or the various temporary battle types. However, since the sheer scale of this update of the entire AI system is so massive, it's difficult to provide an assessment of the effects of these changes at this point. We'll be keeping a close eye on bot behavior and making further tweaks if necessary.
Currently, we're actively working on improving the AI within this new system. We already have some improvements planned for bots in Operations and the Training Room. In addition to that, changes are also expected in other battle types. We'll share the details a bit later.

Wargaming Publisher Weekend — LIVE Now!
[previewyoutube="SM_rO-gvs8I;full"] Captains!
After reaching a staggering milestone of 200 million registered players across multiple hit titles and platforms, we’re proud and excited to announce that the first ever Wargaming Publisher Weekend has officially kicked off!
For this glorious occasion, we’ve cooked up a scrumptious menu of heavily discounted DLC, including special cross-game bundles with content for fans of all kinds of warfare!
Important Message for the World of Warships Community
Captains!
Six months have passed since we first told you that the World of Warships team was changing course towards more open communication with the community. Today, we're going to tell you about the changes and improvements we have made.
Random Mechanics
One of the most important milestones of the previous year was the disclosure of drop chances for Black Friday and Santa’s Gift containers, as well as for all the other containers that appeared during that time. Detailed information about drop chances is collected in one place and can be found on this page.
We have added a warning about the nature of randomness and the need to approach purchases soberly. Players also now need to confirm that they are at least 18 years old to purchase containers and random bundles.
One of the upcoming game events is a new auction in which you will have an opportunity to obtain a rare ship—Gremyashchy. The distribution of this ship through an auction will give you the ability to replenish your collection. At the same time, the battle balance and situation in combat will remain almost the same, since the lots are not numerous.
Feedback and Communication
We have published our plans for the game for the next 6 months. We plan to update the roadmap quarterly and accompany it with Waterline videos and streams.
The camouflage design contest for Aviere has recently concluded. Everyone was able to suggest their own camouflage variant for the ship, and the winning one will be recreated in-game after the ship’s release. The details can be found here.
The Hot Fix series continues to provide insights about different people in the World of Warships team and their work on the game. For example, in December, the Hot Fix: Testing and Bugs episode was released on our YouTube channel. New episodes will follow soon! We have also improved our approach to Q&A on the official Discord and shared some insights into graphics development by answering your most popular questions.
Recently, we extensively covered our work on submarines in the Development Blog. In that article, we shared a lot of information with you and outlined our further plans in this area. At the moment, submarines need additional tweaking and will not be available in Updates 0.11.0 and 0.11.1.
The distribution methods for new ships are one of the most interesting topics for our gaming community. We have returned to publishing news on the topic regularly and will do our best to keep you informed about all the upcoming ships. Fresh news can be found in this publication.
What Lies Ahead for Us?
We are constantly looking for new ways to make the game more diverse. In Update 0.11.1, you will have the ability to try out a new battle type—Dirigible Derby. Your mission is to delay the hostile airship while also making sure that your allied airship is the first to reach the destination point.
We are working on aircraft carriers. We carry out regular tests to check different hypotheses and ideas, including those related to the mechanics of ship detection by planes. However, there is a big difference between testing something in a super test and implementing a full-fledged solution that can solve some of the current issues. We are working on various aspects of aircraft carriers and will keep you updated about possible changes.
We are ready to share information about Huron's status. The ship's 3D model is currently being checked for errors and fixed before it can serve as the basis for a game engine object—a ship with all of her settings implemented.
Very soon, we will share the latest results of the balance changes for X Zaō, X Petropavlovsk, and X Franklin D. Roosevelt.
We have made some progress in creating a new map inspired by the Faroe Islands. The general layout is ready, and our artists are currently enriching it with details and improving its visuals. We are planning to release The Faroe Islands on the Live Server by the summer.
We are constantly working on improving our communication with you. No considerable change is possible without mistakes. Not everything has been perfect during these past months, but we will continue to work on it, improve our processes, and strive to perfect our skills.
In conclusion, we would like to thank you for both your constructive criticism and your support. Criticism allows us to identify our shortcomings, and your kind words help us understand when we are on the right course.
We will continue to keep you informed about our plans and important updates. See you soon!

Changelog
Balance changes were applied to Superships, German battleships, and others. We will also be unifying the way acceleration works across all ships. Further details are available in our Development Blog.
Improvements were made to "Dirigible Derby": we implemented bug fixes to solve problems with ship spawn positions on the map, earning achievements, and airships colliding with each other, as well as other minor fixes and improvements. We also added an icon indicating that the airship has slowed down if there are no allies within its circular interactive zone.
Fixed an issue that made it impossible to choose a ship in the carousel after applying filters.
Fixed an issue that caused the client to crash after leaving the in-game browser.
Fixed several other issues.

Let's take a look ahead at what we're working on in the first half of 2022!
Please note that all the information contained in this document is preliminary. Any of the changes and new features that we announce may change several times during tests. During each of those testing rounds, your feedback and opinions will be carefully considered. Now, let's get down to the details! To reveal the information, click on the respective blocks.
Last year, the new ships we added to the Tech Tree were inspired by the history of European and Soviet shipbuilding. Now, we’ve started 2022 by taking a step beyond that horizon. With Update 0.11.0, Pan-Asian cruisers hit our seas in Early Access. We're convinced that the new ships will add a good deal of diversity to naval battles and be liked by our players around the globe.
The national representation in the game is set to grow bigger—Spain is making its way into the roster. The first ship of the new nation is VI Canarias.
German battleships and Soviet destroyers are getting fresh new additions as X Preussen and X Delny take the places of X Grosser Kurfürst and X Khabarovsk, respectively. The newcomers are a better match for the rest of their respective branches from the viewpoint of progression and gameplay. Read all the details here.
Game Events
Joining the Lunar New Year celebrations is a winter tradition for World of Warships. And this year we’ve prepared something very special for the holiday!
A new temporary in-game event called "Dirigible Derby." Each team must escort an airship of its own to a destination point. The airships can't be damaged and move at set speeds but the presence of allied or hostile ships in the interactive zone around the airship can either speed them up or slow them down.
For a limited period of time, Asymmetric Battles will also be available—a non-standard game mode based on an uneven distribution of ships per team. The types and numbers of ships are matched in such a way that makes the forces of both sides in battle as equal as possible.
Spring 2022
Ships
What's your ideal evening? We say it's a slice of delicious pizza straight from the oven, a cup of hot cappuccino, and Early Access to Italian destroyers. They’re all packing Exhaust Smoke Generators, as well as distinctly Italian SAP shells coupled with HE rounds.
At the end of spring, we expect new forces to join the French fleet, too. The second branch of French cruisers will offer you exciting new gameplay experiences. Can't wait for the details? Keep an eye on the Development Blog.
If the supership testing turns out to be a success and returns good results, then this spring we'll extend the existing ship branches by adding their own respective superships.
Submarine testing will resume. The fate of the new ship type will depend on the test results.
Game Events
We're bringing back the Rogue Wave event. Welcome back to the post-apocalyptic world! A land of scavengers who crawl the desolate ruins of a once-flourishing civilization which is now a war zone that’s home to the warships of those unfortunate enough to have survived the cataclysm. We're working on the ship visuals to make it easier for you to identify what faction the enemy in your sights belongs to.
A new mode called "Sea Battle"—a mini-activity in World of Warships, inspired by a classic game—offers a new way to obtain various rewards. The rules are simple—you'll play on a 2D ruled grid that holds each player's fleet of ships. Your mission is to seek and destroy enemy ships, and you'll earn various bonuses and rewards along the way.
The Arms Race mode, which is much liked by so many of you, will be reworked and enhanced in light of your feedback. It will emerge as another one of the possible Random Battle modes. You'll be able to boost your ship during the course of battle, and this will result in plenty of surprises and add greater gameplay diversity.
Wondering about the Dockyard? The activity focused on the phased construction of a warship is taking its rightful place on the Roadmap. You'll have a chance to lay down Pan-American battleship Atlântico and enjoy unique cinematic shots as it’s assembled before your eyes.
Improvements
Training combat missions for new players. A chain of simple missions that will focus on different game mechanics consecutively. It will help new players get to grips with the basic knowledge of the game and take their first steps in it.
Changes to the Containers tab. Our new convenient and informative system of displaying and sorting your containers will enable you to better manage them and open exactly the type of containers you need.
New map. The visual appearance of the new map was inspired by your votes, and we're happy to finally add it to World of Warships!
Visual enhancements. Snow, ice, and sand on maps will become more realistic and spectacular; the ice build-up effect will appear on ships and be visible in battles on snow-covered maps; shadows on maps and ships will look more realistic; and we'll continue reworking maps and Ports with an aim to bring them up to HD quality.
Summer 2022
Ships
Great Britain—one of the mightiest naval powers in the world—is expecting reinforcements. The new branch of British battleships will feature warships that are historically classified as battlecruisers.
Game Events
The return of Convoy. We're changing the format of this game mode. New routes and other details will be added to refresh the standard gameplay. It will be way more interesting to escort and attack transport ships.
U.S. Independence Day. We'll keep with the good old tradition and join the 4th of July celebrations. Plans are already on the table to update the models of the U.S. destroyers.
Improvements
We plan to overhaul the in-game economic system and also separate it from ship exteriors. Economic bonuses will be separated from signals and camouflages and be made into a stand-alone entity. This means that you'll be able to choose your ship's appearance and select economic bonuses separately. Signals and camouflages will serve as elements of the exterior and yield combat bonuses only.
Plans Going Forward
These are, of course, only some of the new features we've cooked up for 2022. We've planned loads of new additions and improvements in World of Warships for the second half of the year as well. Right now, they're at the preliminary design stage, so we're not ready to talk about them yet. We'll be sure to release another article when we're ready to share new information with you and explain any changes to the plans we've just announced.
We strive for openness and mutual understanding with our players, and we would like to thank you for your attention to the game, constructive criticism, and positive feedback. And we hope you enjoy the fruits of our efforts! Stay with us.
