Unveiling X3: Farnham's Legacy – a new chapter for an old favourite

We at Egosoft have been working on our current title, X4: Foundations, and have recently released a major 4.00 update, as well as a new expansion, X4: Cradle of Humanity. In the meantime, a new product has emerged from our DevNet community that we would like to tell you about.

Almost ten years ago, with the release of X3: Albion Prelude, Egosoft decided to bring development of titles based on the long-running X3 game engine to an end. However, a dedicated group of players from our DevNet community had other ideas!

The X3: Farnham's Legacy project kicked off in earnest in 2016 but, as with any community project, there were times when progress was faster than others. Five years on, and the team are now finally ready to show you their creation!

Set in the years after X3: Albion Prelude, as the chaos caused by the gate shutdown really takes hold, X3: Farnham's Legacy starts very differently to previous games in the X3 series. Trapped in an isolated area of space, you'll first need to make use of the new exploration features to find your way back to civilisation. Then, once you're there, you'll be able to use the new diplomacy options to help shape your relationships with the factions you find.

The new features don't end with the storyline, though. There are numerous other improvements, ranging from drone carriers, station-building services and an enhanced player headquarters, to a new ship browser and a hyperlinked encyclopedia. And of course, no new X3 game would be complete without new ships and stations!

X3: Farnham's Legacy will be released into Early Access on May 4th, 2021. The best news of all, however, is that this new expansion will be FREE OF CHARGE to all owners of X3: Albion Prelude!

In the four weeks until the release, we will provide you with interviews of the team members to further fuel the anticipation. Please keep an eye on our usual news channels.

MacOS and Linux: Full Controller Support

The macOS and Linux versions of X3: Terran Conflict have been updated to add controller support and to fix some input issues.

X3: Terran Conflict now has full controller support on all platforms.

X3: Terran Conflict 3.3 Update Released

Since the last update, we've taken the opportunity to do a couple of things with these games. Most of these are fixes, and have been applied to both games (X3: TC + X3: AP); those of you with many playing hours will be pleased to note that one of these addresses the performance and memory issues that can occur with certain missions.

Modders will find a few small improvements in X3AP, and players who use the Russian and Chinese localisations will hopefully be pleased to see text improvements that had been made in X3AP have now been back-ported to X3TC. Also back-ported to X3TC, though currently only in the Windows version, is the controller support from X3AP.

X3:TC 3.3 Changelog:

  • Added controller support (Windows only).
  • Updated Chinese and Russian localisation files.
  • Fixed various crashes and enabled crash dump generation.
  • Fixed various issues with joystick control.
  • Fixed mission-related memory leaks and performance issues.
  • Fixed duration of subtitles and displayed hints in several languages.
  • Fixed various user interface issues.
  • Fixed "invalid" being displayed instead of date/time in savegame load menu.
  • Fixed exploit in return ship mission where boarded ships remained player owned.
  • Fixed missions in Pirate or Yaki space not selecting correct enemies.

X3: Terran Conflict 3.3 Public Beta

In addition to our big announcement today of the new X Rebirth VR Edition, we are also releasing new public beta updates for several of our existing games.
  • X Rebirth 4.10
  • X3: Albion Prelude 3.2
  • X3: Terran Conflict 3.3

All three of these updates improve the games, and include a number of fixes and performance improvements that have come to our attention over the past months. These updates will, of course, be made available to everybody once the testing has ended.

Steam Cloud Sync Enabled

We are pleased to announce that Steam Cloud support is now enabled for all games in the X series, to bring the older games in line with X Rebirth.

Your savegames will now be synchronised across different PCs using the same Steam account by default.

If you do not wish to use Steam Cloud to synchronise your games, then right-click on the game in question in the Steam library, choose Properties, go to the Updates tab and uncheck the "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization" checkbox setting.

You can, of course, re-enable it at any time if you change your mind.

Egosoft

X3: Terran Conflict Bonus Package now available on Steam

The Bonus Package for X3: Terran Conflict has just been released on Steam. It's a free collection of script plugins that have been created by members of the Egosoft forum community. Egosoft has selected them as extensions that fit well into, and do not destroy, the balance of the game. To access the bonus content, simply install it from the store page. The Bonus Package will also show up in the DLC tab of the game properties, where you have the option to uninstall it.

If you have previously installed the non-Steam version of the Bonus Package, it is recommended that you uninstall it first.
